六、阅读理解。
A
My name is Wang Hao, and my hometown is a small village in the northern part of China. It used to be a place troubled by sandstorms almost every season. The farmlands used to be covered with loose sand, so we could only grow a small amount of millet(小米) each year. My dad used to walk for three hours to buy daily necessities in the nearest town, because there used to be no shops in our village. The hills around used to be bare, with only a few dry shrubs scattered here and there, and the wind used to blow sand into our houses every day.
Two years ago, the local government launched an “Ecological Restoration” program for our village. First, experts brought us a kind of desert willow with deep roots that can fix the sand firmly. We used to plant trees by hand, and later the government provided us with electric planters to make the work easier. Second, we built stone barriers on the hills to slow down the sand flow, and we also set up a waste recycling station in the village to stop rubbish from polluting the land. As students, we joined a “Green Guardian” club: we picked up litter on the hills every weekend and gave talks to villagers about environmental protection.
Now, amazing changes have taken place in my hometown. The sandstorms have almost disappeared, and the farmlands are now covered with green crops like wheat and potatoes. The hills are covered with desert willows and pine trees, and a small convenience store has opened in the village—my dad no longer needs to walk far to shop. The air is fresh, and kids can play outside without worrying about sand. We all feel proud that we turned our sandy hometown into a green land together!

My hometown used to be a beautiful place with a clear river running through it. The hills around the town used to be covered with green grass and tall trees, and the air used to smell fresh every morning. 1.D
But a few years ago, a shoe factory was built near the river. Soon, a lot of dirty water from the factory flowed into the river, and thick smoke came out of its chimneys every day. 2.A The trees on the hills were cut down to make space for the factory, and sandstorms started to come more often. Everything changed completely. We all felt sad about the changes in our hometown.
3.F First, the villagers wrote a letter to the local government to ask for help. The government asked the factory to build a water treatment system to stop polluting the river. Second, we started a “Green Hometown” project: we planted more than 1,000 trees on the hills and cleaned up the rubbish in the river together. We also made posters to tell people to stop using plastic bags and to protect the environment. 4.C
Now, great changes have taken place in our hometown.
