Good morning, everyone and welcome to the museum. I’d like to give you some background information about the museum, and then explain a little about what you can see during your visit. So, where we are standing at the moment is the entrance to a large building that was constructed in 1880 as the home of a local businessman. It was later sold and became a hall of residence for students. In 2005, a modern extension was built to accommodate the museum’s collections. The museum is owned by the university now. Apart from two rooms that are our offices, the university uses the main part of the building. You may see students going into the building for lessons, but it’s not open to visitors. I’m afraid it’s a shame because the internal architectural features are outstanding, especially the room that used to be the library. Luckily, we’ve managed to keep entry to the museum free. Now please come here, and I’d like to tell you more about the different areas of the museum.

Djukic is a biology and chemistry student at John Carroll University. She never thought that one day she would be in a classroom where an English teacher asked her to play a board game in order to learn about climate change.
Debra Rosenthal is the professor of the class. At first, Djukic said she was uncertain about Rosenthal’s board game idea. “I was just like: ‘this is interesting, but how much are we actually going to take away from it?”
Rosenthal thought her students would gain a greater understanding about how their own ideas and experiences affect climate change. Students do not compete against each other. They work together to choose the best plan of action. The game is different from board games such as Monopoly, where the goal is to win. Rosenthal said she hoped the games would give students a chance to talk about climate change in a new way.
“By playing the games, it’s a way to be social, to engage in conversation. There has to be a lot of energy around the table. It’s very collaborative. And in the game that I chose to play, they really were able to work together and try to come up with a solution so that the planet was not destroyed.”
During the class, she said, students laughed, disagreed and had to call for votes as a way to decide how to move forward in the game. Djukic said it was a “way to have fun...while also learning about such a serious subject.”
The games are global, Djukic said. That is because she and her classmates said they were able to see how one player’s decision about agriculture affected another player on the other side of the world.
She said the games showed her that “in the game of climate change and the climate crisis, no individual wins.” “It’s either we all suffer from this, or we all somehow collaborate to work our way out of this and turn the clock back on climate change.”
24.What is the purpose of Rosenthal’s class arrangement?
A.To inspire the competition among students.
B.To entertain the students with the board game.
C.To stress the damage caused by climate change.
D.To encourage student’s viewpoints about climate change.
25.Which best describes the board game according to paragraph 4?
A.Cooperative. B.Competitive. C.Creative. D.Exclusive.
26.What can be inferred from the last two paragraphs?
A.Agriculture is of vital importance to the world.
B.The world is a community of shared future.
C.Man with strong will can conquer nature.
D.Climate change is a tough problem to solve.
27.Which of the following can be the best title for the text?
A.Climate change calls for teamwork.
B.Climate change leads to global impact.
C.A board game helps students understand climate issues.
D.A good teacher gives students lifelong benefits.
【答案】24.D 25.A 26.B 27.C
根据第三段中“Rosenthal said she hoped the games would give students a chance to talk about climate change in a new way.(罗森塔尔说,她希望比赛能让学生有机会以新的方式谈论气候变化。)”
根据第四段“By playing the games, it’s a way to be social, to engage in conversation. There has to be a lot of energy around the table. It’s very collaborative. And in the game that I chose to play, they really were able to work together and try to come up with a solution so that the planet was not destroyed.(通过玩游戏,这是一种社交、参与对话的方式。桌子周围必须有很多能量。这是需要协作。在我选择玩的游戏中,他们确实能够共同努力并尝试提出解决方案,以使地球不被毁灭。)”可知,第四段中,合作这一词最能描述棋盘游戏的特点,故选A。
26.推理判断题。根据倒数第二段中“That is because she and her classmates said they were able to see how one player’s decision about agriculture affected another player on the other side of the world.(这是因为她和她的同学说,他们能够看到一个玩家对农业的决定如何影响世界另一端的另一个玩家)”和最后一段“She said the games showed her that “in the game of climate change and the climate crisis, no individual wins.” “It’s either we all suffer from this, or we all somehow collaborate to work our way out of this and turn the clock back on climate change.”(她说,这些比赛向她展示了“在气候变化和气候危机的游戏中,没有个人能获胜。”“要么我们都遭受这种痛苦,要么我们大家以某种方式合作,摆脱困境,扭转气候变化的趋势。”)”可推知,世界是休戚与共的命运共同体。故选B。
27.主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是第一段中“She never thought that one day she would be in a classroom where an English teacher asked her to play a board game in order to learn about climate change.(她没想到有一天,她会在教室里,一位英语老师让她玩棋盘游戏,以了解气候变化。)”
C
“The noise is becoming problematic,” said Malia Everette, who called me from a hotel in Mexico. “It’s especially bad during high season. The traffic is loud. People are out on the street having the time of their lives, and you can’t sleep because you hear booming music.”
Travel is getting louder in big and small ways, but one of the most significant contributors to travel noise is the travel industry itself. Airports are expanding to accommodate more passengers. Roads are busier and hotels are constantly being remodeled. Throughout the tourism space, there will always be a cycle of transformation and reinvention that causes noise pollution.
To escape unwanted travel noise, Earth.fm, a nonprofit organization, publishes a list of the quietest places in loud cities. “They’re mostly parks in urban areas, where the noise level drops dramatically because of the lack of cars. Actually, escaping noise pollution isn’t necessarily about finding silence,” says Olivia Lott, a spokeswoman for Earth.fm. “Not all noise is bad for our health. There’s increasing evidence that the sounds of nature, like ocean waves or birdsong, can relax you.”
When you’re on the road, there are a few tried and true tips. Avoid flying during peak hours. When booking a hotel, request a room away from busy streets and lifts. Most importantly, don’t tolerate loud noise when you’re staying in a hotel or vacation rental. Ask for a different room. For a lasting quiet experience, however, more decisive industry-level action is essential. The travel industry can do more to shield you from harmful noise, and it should. Hotel rooms need better soundproofing and electric vehicles make almost no noise at all.
As travel continues to raise its decibel (分贝) levels, maybe it’s time for travelers to take matters into their own hands, or ears. By packing a pair of quality earplugs and having a well-thought-out travel plan, you can reclaim your right to enjoy the journey without feeling like you’re stuck in a rock concert.
28.What is paragraph 2 mainly about?
A.Where tourism space declines. B.Why travelling becomes popular.
C.How travel is getting louder. D.What results travel noise brings.
29.What do Olivia Lott’s words imply?
A.We should view noise objectively.
B.We can live in harmony with nature.
C.It’s reasonable to seek total silence.
D.Noise pollution covers natural sounds.
30.What does the underlined word “shield” in paragraph 4 probably mean?
A.Shelter. B.Distinguish. C.Distract. D.Restrict.
31.What can be inferred from the last paragraph?
A.Noise is unavoidable during the trip.
B.A noisy journey can bring special fun.
C.Good preparations silence travel noise.
D.Concerts add unique meaning to trips.
【答案】28.C 29.A 30.A 31.C
通读第二段内容可知,该段首句内容“Travel is getting louder in big and small ways, but one of the most significant contributors to travel noise is the travel industry itself.(旅行中的噪音正从方方面面变得越来越严重,而旅行噪音最重要的诱因之一就是旅游业本身)”提出了该段的核心话题“旅游业本身是噪音最大源头”,随后列举了“Airports are expanding(机场扩建)”、“Roads are busier and hotels are constantly being remodeled.(道路越来越繁忙,酒店也在不断翻修。)”
根据文章第三段内容“Not all noise is bad for our health. There’s increasing evidence that the sounds of nature, like ocean waves or birdsong, can relax you.(并非所有的噪音都对我们的健康有害。越来越多的证据表明,海浪或鸟鸣等大自然的声音可以让你放松。)”可知,Olivia Lott认为不是所有噪音都有害,自然类声音(海浪、鸟鸣)能让人放松。由此推知,Olivia Lott的话暗示了噪音不能一概而论,我们应该客观区分看待不同的声音。
30.词句猜测题。根据画线词所在句的后文内容“Hotel rooms need better soundproofing and electric vehicles make almost no noise at all.(酒店客房需要更好的隔音设施,而电动汽车几乎完全不会产生噪音。)”
根据文章最后一段内容“By packing a pair of quality earplugs and having a well-thought-out travel plan, you can reclaim your right to enjoy the journey without feeling like you’re stuck in a rock concert.(备好一副高品质耳塞,再规划一份周全的出行方案,你就能重新安心享受旅途,不必全程身处如同摇滚现场般嘈杂的环境。)”
D
When French writer Léo reached the top of a remote Icelandic mountain where only a few bits of ice remained, his first thought was that it was breathtakingly beautiful— until one of the guides gently told him that everything around him used to be glacier (冰川). “And then it hit me,” Léo said. “That’s when I realized how serious the situation was.”
Léo’s realization isn’t unique. In recent years, a growing number of tourists have started seeking similar experiences as they journey to see landmarks, landscapes and even entire destinations that may soon disappear forever because of climate change. Known as last-chance tourism, this “see-it-before-it’s-gone” practice is contentious. Research indicates that the amount of fuel it takes to travel to these destinations could speed up their very decline. On the other hand, advocates say that, done responsibly, it can also inspire travelers to protect the very places they came to see.
Retired scientist Nadine Marshall has studied how the connection travelers and tourists establish with the Great Barrier Reef (大堡礁) has turned into “reef grief (悲痛)”. She found that people reported a particularly high level of reef grief after bleaching (白化) incidents due to climate change. Unlike locals, who had seen the reef change over time, first-time visitors were grieving something they had never seen — the reef’s previous unbleached state — indicating that people can quickly form a strong emotional attachment to a place, which can increase the likelihood of climate-friendly behaviour.
“It’s good to feel grief because it’s motivating and especially when the grief is due to our mismanagement of the planet,” Marshall said. “It makes us want to be better and to change or to be solution-oriented.”
For Léo, the key is to grieve collectively and then channel that emotion into action. After returning from Iceland, Léo helped organize a festival in Lyon discussing the challenges of and possible solutions to climate change.
32.What is the main reason behind the growth of last-chance tourism?
A.A scientific interest in climate change.
B.A sense of responsibility to protect nature.
C.The growing desire for adventure tourism.
D.The fear of missing out on disappearing sites.
33.What does the underlined word “contentious” in paragraph 2 probably mean?
A.Leading to disagreement. B.Highly profitable.
C.Helping the environment. D.Strictly prohibited.
34.What did Marshall find about first-time visitors to the Great Barrier Reef?
A.They decided to learn how to protect the reef.
B.They hardly believed the reef was once healthier.
C.They felt a strong loss for a reef they never saw.
D.They understood reef problems better than locals.
35.What is the most suitable title for the passage?
A.The Popularity of Last-Chance Tourism
B.The Challenges of Saving Dying Landscapes
C.Can Last-Chance Travel Inspire Protection?
D.Should We Stop Climate-Damaging Tourism?
【答案】32.D 33.A 34.C 35.C
根据文章第二段“In recent years, a growing number of tourists have started seeking similar experiences as they journey to see landmarks, landscapes and even entire destinations that may soon disappear forever because of climate change.(近年来,越来越多的游客开始寻求类似的体验,他们前往参观那些可能因气候变化而即将永远消失的地标、景观甚至整个目的地。)”
根据文章第二段中划线单词后文“Research indicates that the amount of fuel it takes to travel to these destinations could speed up their very decline. On the other hand, advocates say that, done responsibly, it can also inspire travelers to protect the very places they came to see.(研究表明,前往这些目的地所需的燃料可能会加速它们的衰退。另一方面,支持者认为,如果负责任地进行,这种旅行也能激励游客保护他们前来观赏的地方。)”可知,人们对“末日旅游”有不同的看法,由此可推知,这种被称为“末日旅游”趁消失前看看的做法是有争议的,故划线单词意为“有争议的”,与A项意思一样。故选A。
根据文章第三段“Unlike locals, who had seen the reef change over time, first-time visitors were grieving something they had never seen — the reef’s previous unbleached state — indicating that people can quickly form a strong emotional attachment to a place, which can increase the likelihood of climate-friendly behaviour.(与亲眼目睹珊瑚礁随时间变化的当地人不同,首次到访的游客正在为一些他们从未见过的东西感到悲痛——珊瑚礁之前未白化的状态——这表明人们可以迅速对一个地方形成强烈的情感依恋,从而增加采取气候友好行为的可能性。)”

My best friend, Emily, and I had been inseparable since middle school. We shared everything — lunches, secrets, and dreams for the future. Yet as graduation approached, the mounting stress of exams and college applications began to take its toll on both of us. We studied side by side and promised to get through this together.
The turning point came after the midterm examinations. I had prepared for weeks — sacrificing sleep, skipping social gatherings — yet my score fell far below my expectation. Emily, on the other hand, received one of the highest grades in our class. She tried to be kind about it, never bragging or even mentioning her score. But somehow, that made things worse.
She came to me that afternoon with my favorite snacks. “It’s just one exam,” she said gently. “You’ll do better next time.” I nodded but could not bring myself to look at her. She attempted to lighten the mood with silly jokes, but every word felt like a reminder of the growing gap between us. Then she said, half-jokingly, “Come on, don’t be so negative. It’s not the end of the world.”
Something inside me broke. “Easy for you to say,” I erupted. “You’re not the one who failed.” The moment the words left my mouth, I regretted them. Her face fell. She parted her lips to respond, but no words came. After a long, painful silence, she simply stood up and walked away without a word.
The following days were cold and heavy. We stopped sitting together at lunch. She found a new table, and I did the same. We passed each other in the hallways like strangers. I could tell she was hurting too, but pride kept us both frozen. The silence between us was not empty — it was loaded with guilt, pride, and everything we wished we could say.
It was not until our English teacher assigned us to work together on a final presentation that we were forced to confront each other. When I saw our names paired on the list, I felt a mix of dread and relief. Finally, there was no way out.
注意:
(1)续写词数应为150个左右;
Silence fell upon us whew we sat down to prepare at first.

With the weight lifted off our shoulders, we threw ourselves into preparing the presentation.
__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Silence fell upon us when we sat down to prepare at first. Neither of us spoke for what felt like an eternity. I kept my eyes fixed on the notebook, my fingers nervously twisting together. Then, out of the corner of my eye, I saw Emily reach out and gently push a pen toward me — the same pen I had lent her years ago during a chemistry exam. That small gesture broke something inside me. “I’m sorry,” I whispered, my voice trembling. She looked up, tears welling in her eyes. “Me too,” she said softly. Without another word, we pulled our chairs closer and began dividing the presentation slides. The ice finally melted away.
With the weight lifted off our shoulders, we threw ourselves into preparing the presentation. Dividing the work naturally, we soon found our old rhythm — she researched statistics while I designed the slides. Before long, we finished our own parts and discussed how to polish the presentation as a whole. Finally came the presentation day. Having exchanged an encouraging smile, we strode to the front with confidence. The applause that followed felt like a shared victory. It was then that I realized: True friendship isn’t about waiting for the other to apologize first — it’s about being the one brave enough to reach out.

Good morning, everyone, and welcome to the museum. I'd like to give you some background formation about the museum and then explain a little about what you can see during your visit. So where we are standing at the moment is the entrance to a large building that was constructed in eighteen eighty as the home of a local business man. IT was later sold and became a hall of residence for students in two thousand and five. A modern extinction was built to accommodate the museum's collections. The museum is owned by the university. Now, apart from two rooms that are our offices, the university uses the main part of the building. You may see students going into the building for lessons, but it's not open to visitors, i'm afraid, is a shame, because the internal architectural features are outstanding, especially the room that used to be the library. Luckily, we've managed to keep entry to the museum free. Now please come here, and i'd like to tell you more about the different areas of the museum.
