A
When Lily first entered university, she was consumed by a desire to impress others. Coming from an ordinary family, she suddenly found herself surrounded by classmates who seemed to have everything—the latest phones, brand-name clothes, and endless stories of expensive trips. Afraid of being looked down upon, she decided she had to keep up. To save face, she bought an iPhone—not because she needed one, but because she wanted to look cool. Then she set her sights on a pair of Gucci shoes. In truth, she only took a screenshot of the shoes and their price tag, posted it on WeChat Moments with the caption "Just trying," and never actually bought them. It was a case of self-deception—burying her head in the sand like an ostrich.
To keep up appearances, she often treated herself to expensive seafood buffets, convincing herself she was wealthy and sophisticated. But it was all a facade. Deep down, she felt empty and anxious, yet she kept telling herself that this was what a "successful" college life should look like.
In the end, Lily didn't make a single true friend in university. One day, she asked someone why. That person replied, "A phone has nothing to do with making friends. You need to reflect on why you think the better the phone, the more friends you'll have." The words hit her like a cold splash of water. For the first time, she began to question everything she had done.
Years later, when Lily became a parent, she stopped all that. She became extremely frugal, spending money wisely and saving every penny for her family. The vanity of her youth had given way to the quiet responsibility of adulthood. Looking back, she no longer felt ashamed of her past—she felt grateful, because it had taught her what truly matters in life.
24.(2 marks) What can be inferred about Lily's purchase of the iPhone?
A. She had saved money for a long time to afford it.
B. It was a practical necessity for her studies.
C. It was driven by a fear of social exclusion rather than genuine need.
D. She bought it to reward herself for entering university.
25. (2 marks)What does the author suggest by mentioning "burying her head in the sand like an ostrich"?
A. Lily was too busy to notice what was happening around her.
B. Lily refused to admit the truth and deceived herself deliberately.
C. Lily was imitating the lifestyle of her wealthy classmates.
D. Lily felt ashamed of her family background.
26. (2 marks)What can be concluded from the reply Lily received when she asked why she had no friends?
A. Making friends depends largely on one's material possessions.
B. Lily's classmates were too shallow to appreciate her.
C. Lily had misplaced her efforts by equating material display with social success.
D. The person was unwilling to give Lily an honest answer.
27.(2 marks)Recently there has been a very popular meme: Jiahao. We generally use "Jiahao" to refer to those people whose abilities are mediocre, yet who always like to try too hard to show themselves off, with the result that they appear childish and embarrassing. For example,Lily in the reading passage B.Please determine which of the following examples counts as Jiahao. :
A. Lisa said she would lose 20 pounds, but finally gave up.、
B. Mike got a perfect score on his math test but said he did not do well.
C. Estrella ate breakfast at a five-star hotel and claimed she was living like a rich young lady, though she had only bought a discount breakfast voucher and wasn't staying there.
D. Sherry had just barely passed her English test and said she had done poorly but had made progress, and would do better next time.
28.(3 marks)Based on the term Jiahao mentioned at question 27,write an example of “Jiahao”:______________________
29.(3 marks)Write a proper title for this passage:_________________ (no more than 8 words)
30.(3 marks)After reading this passage, what’s your feeling? And why you will have such feeling?
31. (3 marks) Summarize this passage within 30 words.
B
Every September, millions of mooncakes travel across China. They are packed in golden boxes, wrapped in silk, and carried from one home to another. They are given, received, and given again. Almost everyone agrees they are not very good to eat. Yet almost no one gets angry about it.
This is the strange economy of the mooncake. It is not really a food. It is a message.
The message is simple: I still remember you. The golden box, the heavy lid, the silk lining—these are not about taste. They are about the strength of the signal. The heavier the box, the stronger the message. What is inside matters far less. In fact, the less it is eaten, the longer it can keep travelling.
A mooncake with a shelf life of 90 days can be passed from A to B, from B to C, and from C to D, and still look perfect when it finally reaches someone who actually opens it. That person takes one bite, says something unprintable, and puts the rest back. But by then, the mooncake has already done its job. It has carried the message. It has proved that A remembered B, that B remembered C, and that C remembered D.
The real mooncakes—the ones people actually enjoy—are a different species. They are sold in paper bags, not golden boxes. Their shelf life is measured in days, not months. They are bought near home, eaten the same day, and never sent anywhere. They are, in other words, useless as messages. They are only good as food.
So the mooncake season produces two kinds of products: one that is meant to be sent, and one that is meant to be eaten. The first is expensive, beautiful, and almost uneatable. The second is cheap, plain, and delicious. The first travels across the country. The second never leaves the neighbourhood.
Nobody is fooled. Everyone knows the golden box is not for eating. But everyone also knows that pointing this out would be rude. So the boxes keep moving, the messages keep arriving, and the mooncakes keep being opened, tasted, and quietly abandoned.
It is, in its own way, a perfect system. It runs on a silent agreement: We both know this is not food. But we both know why we are doing it.
32. (2 marks)What does the author suggest about the golden mooncake boxes?
A. They are designed to keep the mooncakes fresh for a long time.
B. They are mainly a way of showing the strength of the social message.
C. They are more expensive because the mooncakes inside are better.
D. They are used only between family members.
33. (2 marks)Why can a mooncake with a 90-day shelf life travel so far?
A. Because it tastes better after a long time.
B. Because it is made with better ingredients.
C. Because it is not meant to be eaten quickly.
D. Because it is smaller and easier to carry.
34. (2 marks)What is the key difference between the two kinds of mooncakes mentioned in paragraph 4?
A. One is sold in cities, the other in the countryside.
B. One is for sending, the other is for eating.
C. One is sweet, the other is salty.
D. One is made by hand, the other by machine.
35. (2 marks)What can be inferred from the last paragraph?
A. People are angry about the mooncake tradition.
B. Golden boxes will soon disappear from the market.
C.The author thinks the tradition should be stopped.
D. The mooncake system works because everyone accepts the unspoken rule.
36.(8 marks):Please briefly write the structure of the passage
37(4 marks):Why do mooncakes with nice packaging generally taste terrible?Share your thoughts.(You should use related information in the passage, and add some your own understanding)
38( 5 marks):In the last passage, it mentions that“It runs on a silent agreement......”,and do you think there are examples of similar “silent tacit understanding”in the life?Give an example and briefly show your understanding regarding this example.
C
ln the second-hand phone market, a strange new pattern has caught the attention of dealers. Instead of trading up, a growing number of young men are trading down — deliberately swapping a newer iPhone for an older, cheaper model and pocketing the difference. Dealers have nicknamed them "PG boys," after an overseas gambling platform whose slot-machine games they are addicted to.
The logic, if it can be called logic, is simple. A young man buys an iPhone 17 on credit or with money from his parents. He then loses heavily on the gambling app. To "fight back," he needs cash — fast. So he sells the 17, buys a 13, and feeds the gap into the app. When that money is gone, he sells the 13, buys an 11, and tries again. Each step down feels temporary: just one more round and I'll buy it all back. In reality, the phone gets older, the debt gets bigger, and the dream gets smaller.
Psychologists call this "chasing losses." It is one of the most reliable signs of gambling addiction. The brain, desperate to undo a loss, treats each new bet not as a fresh risk but as a repair job. The result is a spiral: the more you lose, the more you need to win; the more you need to win, the more you are willing to sacrifice. A phone is merely the most visible thing to sacrifice first — followed by laptops, watches, and finally, borrowed money from friends.
What makes the "PG boy" phenomenon especially striking is its self-deception. Ask one why he is downgrading and he will rarely say "because I lost." Instead, he will offer a script: "I'm just tiding over(周转), "the new model isn't worth it anyway," or "I'll upgrade again after I hit a big win." These explanations are not lies told to others so much as stories told to himself. They allow him to keep gambling while preserving the image of a rational person making sensible choices.
The second-hand dealers, for their part, have learned to read the signs. A customer who knows exactly which model to downgrade to, who checks the price difference before the phone's condition, and who seems anxious rather than excited — that is a PG boy. Some dealers admit they feel uneasy about the trade but rarely refuse. "It's legal," one said. "And he'll just go somewhere else."
For the young men themselves, the ending is rarely dramatic. There is no single moment of collapse. There is simply a long, quiet slide: from flagship to mid-range, from mid-range to second-hand, from second-hand to a borrowed spare, and finally to a phone that can barely run the app that ruined him. By then, the gambling platform has already moved on to its next target — another young man with a new phone and the same old story.
39. (2 marks)What does the term "PG boys" refer to in the passage?
A. Young dealers who specialize in second-hand iPhones.
B. Young men who trade down their phones to fund gambling.
C. Teenagers who collect old phone models as a hobby.
D. Customers who upgrade their phones too frequently.
40. (2 marks)Why does the author call the PG boys' reasoning "the logic, if it can be called logic"?
A. Because their behavior follows a strict economic principle.
B. Because their plan is carefully calculated but poorly executed.
C. Because what they call reasoning is actually a form of self-deception.
D. Because they are too young to understand how phones lose value.
41. (2 marks)What does the underlined word "chasing losses" most probably mean?
A. Trying to recover money already lost by gambling more.
B. Running after someone who has caused you financial harm.
C. Selling personal belongings to pay off existing debts.
D. Competing with others to see who loses the most.
42. (2 marks)What can be inferred about the second-hand dealers' attitude toward PG boys?
A. They strongly condemn the behavior and refuse to trade.
B. They are unaware of what their customers are doing.
C. They profit from the trade but feel some discomfort.
D. They actively encourage young men to downgrade their phones.
43. (2 marks)What is the main purpose of the passage?
A. To advertise a new trend in the second-hand phone market.
B. To warn readers against the dangers of gambling addiction.
C. To compare different iPhone models and their prices.
D. To argue that young people should not use credit cards.
44.(4 marks)Why do “PG boys”deliberately swap a newer iPhone for an older?
45. (6 marks)Summarize this passage within 30 words.
46. (5 marks)Please analyze PG Boy's gambling addiction based on the article and your own understanding, and discuss how we can prevent gambling.

Lydia: 2026/9/1 13:18
I don't think AI is a good thing. Many students now rely on AI to do their homework and are increasingly losing the ability to think for themselves. If this continues, schools might be replaced in the future.
Jackson:2026/9/1 14:20
I think AI is a great thing. AI helps us with self-learning, and when we encounter various problems, AI also offers its own suggestions. If we're feeling down, we can even chat with AI. Isn't AI truly our sincere good partner?

三、应用文写作:
第一节(20分)
Lydia takes a negative view of AI. She worries that students depend too much on AI to do their homework, which makes them lose the ability to think independently, and she even fears schools might be replaced one day. Jackson, however, holds a positive attitude. He believes AI is a helpful partner that supports self-learning, offers suggestions when we face problems, and even comforts us when we feel down.
In my opinion, AI itself is neither good nor bad—it all depends on how we use it. We should treat AI as a tool rather than a substitute for thinking. For example, we can ask AI for explanations or inspiration, but we must still complete our own reasoning and homework. Meanwhile, we should not rely on AI for emotional support too much; real communication with people matters more. Only by using AI wisely and keeping our own judgment can we truly benefit from it.
In senior high English reading, we often meet many unfamiliar words. To deal with this challenge, first, guess meanings from context instead of looking up every word. Second, learn roots and affixes, like "un-" for "not" and "-tion" for nouns. Third, read widely to build vocabulary. Fourth, focus on sentence structure and logic, not every single word. Finally, keep a vocabulary notebook and review it regularly. In short, guessing, word formation, and wide reading together can help you overcome this challenge effectively.
评分标准:学生写出合理的观点即可,然后再结合学生作答的语言质量,内容质量等评分。

范文:
Dear Principal,
I am writing to share a concern about energy waste in our school. Recently, I have noticed that some teaching buildings still have their lights on late at night, even when no classes or activities are taking place. This not only increases electricity costs but also works against our school’s goal of promoting environmental responsibility.
To address this issue, I would like to offer three suggestions. First, the school could install motion sensors in classrooms and corridors so that lights turn off automatically when no one is present. Second, a clear schedule could be created for staff to check empty rooms before the school closes each day. Third, students and teachers could be encouraged to report unnecessary lighting through a simple online form or suggestion box, making everyone part of the solution.
I believe these steps would greatly reduce waste and help create a more sustainable campus. Thank you for considering my suggestions.
Sincerely,
Li Hua
