As a child, she struggled to pick out her own face in school photos, and she is hard pressed today to describe her mother’s features. Over the years she has offended countless friends, passing them on neighborhood streets or in office half ways like strangers. “People think I am just snobby, ”says Burman, 38, a computer consultant in Stockholm. “It makes me really, really sad to lose new friends because they think I couldn’t bother to say hello.” There is a name for Burman’s condition: prosopagnosia or, more informally, face blindness. The disorder was thought to be extremely rare and mainly a result of brain injury. Until a few years ago, there were perhaps 100 officially recorded cases, says Ken Nakayama, a professor of psychology at Harvard. Within that group of sufferers, however, the condition varies widely. For the vast majority, the problem is not so much about detecting a face. Prosopagnosics can see eyes, noses and mouths as clearly as anyone else. It is about recognizing the same set of features when seeing them again. While mild prosopagnosics can train themselves to memorize a limited number of faces(it is said to be like learning to distinguish one stone from another), others struggle to identify family members and, in extreme cases, their own faces. Gaylen Howard, 40, a homemaker in Boulder, says that when she is in front of a mirror in a crowded restroom, she makes a funny face so that, as she puts it, “I can tell which one is me.” For now, it is enough for face-blind people like Burman, who has spent a lifetime being misjudged as lazy and uncaring, to know that there are many others out there like her. Burman made her first contact with fellow prosopagnosics on an Internet mailing list in 2000. “It was only then that I really recognized my own situation in theirs,” she says. “It was such a relief. I cried for days.” 24. The underlined word “snobby” in paragraph 1 most probably means “___________” A. strange B. superior C. cruel D. stupid 25. Why did Burman cry for days? A. She got fully understood by all the people around her. B. Prosopagnosia can finally be cured now. C. She realized she was not alone who suffered from face blindness. D. She gained the ability to recognize the same set of facial features. 26. Which of the following statements is true about prosopagnosia according to the passage? A. Prosopagnosia is in fact quite common. B. The disorder results from brain injury. C. Burman has no difficulty recognizing her own features. D. Face-blind people are not necessarily snobby. 27. It can be inferred from the last paragraph that____ A. Face-blind people are often thought offensive by those who have no idea of their situation. B. Burman made great contributions to the internet platform concerning prosopagnosia. C. There are more and more face-blind people. D. That prosopagnosia can be cured has brought great relief to people who suffer a lot from it. C What is the hottest topic at your school recently? In Taiyuan No. 55 Middle School, it’s money. The school held an activity called “making money” last weekend. About 200 Junior 1 and Junior 2 students were divided into 30 teams. They went out to make money by selling things. What did they choose to sell? Some sold newspapers; some chose bottled water; some sold environmentally friendly shopping bags and bamboo baskets. Hu Qing’s team decided to sell some useful books in front of the Children Activity Center. They thought parents would like to buy the books for their children. But unfortunately, they met urban management officers (城管). The officers asked them to leave. “We played hide-and-seek (捉迷藏) with the officers for the whole morning” said Hu. “Finally we had to give up.” Wang Bing and her team sold ice cream in a square. They didn’t meet any officers. But few people were interested in what they were selling. The team then put up a board saying “For Country Kids”. It worked. More people came to their stall (小摊). A foreigner even gave them 100 yuan. “He didn’t want any change. He said he wanted to help the children,” said Wang. “We were touched.” Later that day they gave the 100 yuan and more to the “Project Hope” office. MengZhaoxiang and his team were luckier. They sold all their cakes in four hours, spending 39.5 yuan and getting back 80 yuan. They made 40.5 yuan. “It was not easy to make the money,” said Meng. “Some people just looked. Others just tasted but didn’t buy. Now I know how hard it is for our parents to make the money we need to lead happy lives.” 28. ______ took part in the activity. A. Some teachers B. About 200 of Junior 1 and Junior 2 students C. About 200 students of the three grades D. About200 Junior 1 students 29. Hu Qing’s team finally gave up because ______. D Most people, if you quizzed them, probably wouldn’t know how much of all global trade is done by sea. It’s one of several reasons that the pollution and carbon emissions from shipping gain much less attention than those from road transport and other industries. It’s over the horizon, out of sight and out of mind. Today, the international shipping industry is the main mode of transport for around 90 percent of world trade. It’s powered almost entirely by fossil fuels. Studies show that alternative technologies and zero-emission fuels — including alternative fuels such as hydrogen, ammonia and methanol — have the potential to significantly reduce the industry’s carbon footprint and thus require urgent implementation (实施). There’s just one catch: they don’t exist yet. Even if the technology were available, the infrastructure (基础设施) for that technology or fuel is going to take time to develop. And an even bigger challenge is going to be whether that methanol or ammonia fuel is green, which touches on other industries such as renewable electricity. Do we even have enough renewable electricity in the world to be able to generate these fuels? It’s a complex supply chain that requires cooperation across the industry. It’s not something that one company can solve by itself. According to Piotr Konopka, senior manager for energy and decarbonisation (碳减排) programs at DP World, there are some simple behavioral changes that can help cut down on fuel used in the meantime, from the regular maintenance and reduced idling of port equipment to the implementation of weather routing that helps ships avoid rougher, more fuel-intensive areas of water. “Of course, efficiency is unlikely to ever reduce emissions by more than five or ten per cent, but it’s definitely a low-hanging fruit,” he says. “This is the last moment for the IMO to act decisively to eliminate shipping emissions,” says Delaine McCullough, shipping emissions policy manager at environmental NGO Ocean Conservancy. “We need countries to demand that the IMO set strong emission-reduction goals and take action at home if the IMO fails to do the right thing.” 32. What makes people neglect shipping emissions? A. Pride. B. Nearsightedness. C. Low intelligence. D. Lack of knowledge. 33. What does the underlined word “catch” mean in Para. 2? A. Device. B. Harvest. C. Problem. D. Prey. 34. Which is thought to be an easier and more practical way to reduce emissions? A. Alternative fuels. B. Efficient use of fuel. C. Renewable electricity. D. Advanced technologies. 35. Which best describes the structure of the passage? We have to admit that not everyone is born with the ability to learn quickly. Early one morning, the king dressed as a farmer and went to a local village. He placed a large stone in the middle of the main road and hid gold coins under the stone. Then he hid behind a huge maple tree and watched. The first person down the road was a milkman with his cart. He crashed into the stone, spilling the milk everywhere. “What fool put this stone here?” he shouted. He picked himself up and angrily went away. After a while, a group of women came along, each balancing a pot of water on her head. One woman tripped over the stone and her water pot went crashing to the ground. She picked herself up and limped away in tears. Neither she nor her friends thought about moving the stone out of the road. The king watched all day as many people complained about the stone, but he found nobody making an attempt to move it. The king was in despair. “Is there no one in this village who feels any responsibility to keep their neighbours from harm?” Just then, a young girl with her brother came along with their schoolbags on their backs. Seeing the stone, she said to her brother, “This stone is a danger to anyone who comes down the road after dark. We must move it out of the way.” The brother disagreed and hurried away, for their parents were waiting for them to have supper. Ignoring him, the girl stopped and pushed the stone with all her might. After a great deal of effort, she finally succeeded in moving it to the side of the road. Removing the danger, she became wild with joy and it was at that very moment that she saw the gold coins where the stone had been! Paragraph 1 Just then, the king stepped out from behind the tree. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2 On her way back home, the girl found her parents waiting anxiously at their doorsteps. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 江西省九江市匡庐星瀚高级中学2026-2027学年上学期9月月考 高一英语试题 时间120分钟 总分150分 注意事项: 1. How much does the woman pay for the gum? Cecilia Burman has always had a problem with faces. D. A. ①/②③/④⑤ B. ①②/③④/⑤ C. ①②③/④/⑤ D. ①/②③④/⑤ 【答案】32. D 33. C 34. B 35. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】参考范文: Just then, the king stepped out from behind the tree. Smiling warmly, he approached the astonished girl. “What a nice girl!” he shouted, revealing his identity. “I placed this stone to test people’s attitude towards the problem lying ahead. You were the only one willing to remove the stone. The gold coins are a reward for your not complaining but solving the problem.” the king added. He also explained his belief that a nation thrives when citizens take initiative. Overwhelmed, the girl thanked him, and the king vanished, leaving behind the treasure. On her way back home, the girl found her parents waiting anxiously at their doorsteps. Beaming with joy, she recounted the adventure — how she moved the stone, met the king, and uncovered the coins. Her parents listened in awe, hugging their selfless and kind daughter. “You taught us all a lesson,” her father said, tears in his eyes “that small acts of kindness bring unexpected rewards.” From then on, the family shared the “gold”, inspiring the villagers to solve problems actively and even go all out to help those in need, which was what the king had wished. 词汇激活 行为类: ①接近:approach/come close to/get near to ②解决:solve/settle ③拥抱:hug/embrace 情绪类: ①惊讶的:astonished/surprised ②喜悦:joy/delight/happiness 【点睛】【高分句型1】He also explained his belief that a nation thrives when citizens take initiative.(运用了that引导的同位语从句,when引导的状语从句) 【高分句型2】From then on, the family shared the “gold”, inspiring the villagers to solve problems actively and even go all out to help those in need, which was what the king had wished.(运用了which引导的定语从句,what引导的表语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $这是英语试题听力部分,该部分分为第一第二两节。 How much for a piece of gum?
