一、阅读理解
Have you ever met an online fortune-teller? Zhao Huan, a 35-year-old blogger, once asked three of them to judge each other’s phone numbers. The result was funny and worrying: numbers that one “master” called lucky were quickly called unlucky by another. “It is absurd, but it really happens online and has cheated many people,” Zhao said.
Scams like this are built on small steps. The “master” first reads your number for free, then charges extra for a “lucky” one, or sells a product that is said to keep bad luck away. Some go much further. One of Zhao’s followers told him that her mother had paid 200,000 yuan to a so-called “spiritual teacher”. Many of these “teachers” are pushed by companies that hide who they really are, and the same faces turn up in different scams.
Why do people believe them? Because the scammers are patient, and because they already know something about you. Once your name, phone number or address is out, a stranger can talk as if he were an old friend. That is why personal information matters so much.
There is good news, too. China now offers an anti-fraud app. You can type in a suspicious message and it will tell you the risk and give you advice. You can also slow down, ask your family first, and never send money to a stranger.
Knowing how a scam works is the first step to staying safe. As Zhao says, a little humour can also help: if we laugh at a trick, we are much less likely to fall for it.
1. What is the passage mainly about?
A. How to become an online fortune-teller.
B. Why some phone numbers are lucky.
C. How online scams work and how to stay safe.
D. How a blogger makes funny videos.
2. How do the “masters” make money?
A. By charging extra for a “lucky” number.
B. By giving free lessons to young people.
C. By reporting scams to the police.
D. By writing news reports about fraud.
3. What does the word “patient” in Paragraph 3 suggest about the scammers?
A. They are kind to older people. B. They are too busy to answer questions.
C. They are afraid of being caught. D. They are willing to wait and take small steps.
4. What can the anti-fraud app do?
A. Send money to your family.
B. Tell you the risk of a suspicious message.
C. Sell products that keep bad luck away. D. Teach people how to tell fortunes.
5. What is the best title for the passage?
A. Why Online Scams Work and How to Stay Safe
B. A Blogger’s Funny Videos
C. How to Make Friends Online
D. The Best Way to Choose a Phone Number

A. How to become an online fortune-teller.
B. Why some phone numbers are lucky.
