I got a mean message online from someone at school. They say I’m stupid and ugly. I feel sad and worried. I don’t know what to do. Please help me!
From Racecar73Hi Racecar 73!
No one should make comments online that are mean or hurtful. You shouldn’t answer messages that are mean, or that make you feel uncomfortable. Tell your parents, a teacher or another adult. They can help you block and report the message. I hope that helps.

Being a game developer is like wearing a lot of different hats at once. One minute, she might be fixing some code. Another minute, she might be solving a design problem, or creating art. The other part of the job is working with people. It’s very collaborative (合作的).
The best game designers are people who have a wide range of interests, because you want to bring those into games. So yes, you might love playing games. But you might also be someone who loves painting or writing stories, or making music, or even just listening to music. For example, Mitu Khandaker loves listening to hip-hop. Whatever your interests are, there is a space for that in games to tell these amazing new stories.
If you want to be a game designer, Mitu Khandaker would say follow your passion and believe in yourself. If you like writing stories, or you like drawing or painting or designing board games—whatever it is—there is a place for you in games. Don’t take no for an answer. That’s how she got to where she is.
If you enjoy learning about more interesting jobs, find more on Your Hot Job, a career-focused website for kids.

There are many problems that young people have to face when we stop being children. At this age all feelings and emotions are very strong. All problems seem very important.
The first terrible thing is misunderstanding from the dearest people—parents. They do not understand why we need to buy things we want to buy, listen to this type of music or spend most of our spare time with our friends. We do not want to hurt their feelings but they should try to understand us.
The same misunderstanding we face sometimes comes from the side of the teachers. They think that youth is given for studying. But a person who only studies is dull (无趣的). Some teachers do not understand that youth is the time for us to learn about people and about ourselves, to play and to try things. They try to keep us away from all dangers in our lives. But teenagers need adults to take them seriously and give them a friendly hand, not a punishment.
▲ I think, young people need to have pocket money for buying books, pens, ice-cream and so on. But I do not think it is a good idea to ask parents to give me some money. If I find a part-time job, they will say it distracts (使分心) me from studies. If I ask for money, they say they spend too much on my school, clothes and other things.
Sometimes the problem of fashion appears. My parents try to buy me clothes to their taste. Sometimes that’s all right, but sometimes I want something more fashionable, especially for summer. Then we can argue (争吵) for hours. It is interesting that in the question of clothes, my mother is on my side, but in the question of books and music, my father supports me.
Being young is not easy, but it is an important time to learn and grow. Problems like these may feel big now, but they also help us understand ourselves better. If we can talk with adults honestly, find good friends who support us, and be true to who we are, we will get through these years smoothly. Remember, all these experiences—the good and the hard—are preparing us for the future ahead.
47.Which of the following sentences can be put in ▲ ?
A.The problem of money is important as well. B.A part-time job is another common problem.
C.It’s hard for us to ask parents for some money. D.Saving money is a necessary skill for the future.
48.Which sentence would the writer keep in his diary?
A.I am too busy to take part-time jobs. B.I like my parents to buy clothes for me.
C.I want to make more choices by myself. D.I hope my teachers help me with my study.
49.How is the passage organized?
A.Time order. B.Space order.
C.From specific to general. D.From general to specific.
50.What’s the main purpose of the passage?
A.To show youth is even better than adulthood. B.To encourage teenagers to take on challenges.
C.To advise teenagers to face problems bravely. D.To guide teenagers to deal with their daily needs.
D
As a Grade Nine student, you face more stress—like exams, homework, and even small fights with friends. These things often make you feel upset, worried, or angry. But learning to manage your moods isn’t hard; it just takes small, simple steps. Here’s what you can do:
First, stop and “name” your feeling when it appears.
If you’re mad at a classmate who took your notebook, don’t shout right away. Instead, say to yourself: “I’m angry because my things were taken.” 51 This small act helps you take a step back instead of letting your feeling control you.
Second, find a quick way to calm down.
When stress from a math test makes your heart beat fast, try this: take three slow breaths—in through your nose, out through your mouth. 52 You can also keep a small thing with you, like a favorite candy or a photo, to look at when you feel stressed.
Third, talk to someone you trust.
You don’t have to hold all feelings inside. If you’re sad about a bad grade, tell your mom, dad, or a teacher. 53 They might not work out the problem right away, but just listening can make you feel lighter.
Fourth, set a small “mood break” every day.
Between studying and homework, spend 10 minutes doing something you like—listening to a short song, drawing a quick picture, or even just looking out the window. 54 This break lets your brain rest and keeps bad feelings from growing.
55
It’s common to feel worried before a big exam or upset when a friend disappoints you. After all, moods are like the changing clouds—they never stay the same for long.
A.These breaths slow down your heart and help you think clearly.
B.Finally, you don’t need to be worried about having strong moods.
C.Naming your feeling helps you understand what’s really bothering you.
D.For ninth-graders, the only way to reduce stress is to study harder.
E.Doing something fun for a short time can cheer you up quickly.
F.They know you well and can give you advice that fits your situation.
G.Feeling angry or sad means you’re a weak person who can’t handle pressure.

Why do parents have difficulty c 66 openly and honestly with their teens? For this, there are many reasons but most of them start from not being able to properly understand their teens. Kyra Komac, 28 years old, now has 25 furniture (家具) stores all over the country. The new store, in London’s Camden High Street, takes her back to where it all started. She tells us about how the business began.
When I was little, my mother began selling flowers in Camden Market. She couldn’t leave me at home on my own, so I had to go to the market with her.
To begin with, I didn’t have to do anything. I just sat there, and my mum told me jokes and stories so I didn’t get bored. When I got older, I gave my mum a hand and I really enjoyed it.
Then, one year, my grandma gave me a book for Christmas. It was all about making candles and I loved it. I was 14, and I didn’t have to go to the market any more because mum could leave me at home on my own. I spent my free time making candles of all shapes and sizes. I made hundreds of them.
One day, my mother was ill so I had to go to the market on my own. I decided to take some candles with me and see if I could sell them. They were sold out in twenty minutes! The next week, my mum gave me some money to buy some wax (蜡) to make more candles. They sold out really quickly, too.
Nine months later, we decided to stop selling flowers. My mum and I couldn’t make enough candles during the week, so some of my school friends started to give us a hand. I paid them one pound for every candle, and we used to sell them for three or four times that. It was fun and my friends worked with me in the market.
At the age of 22, my uncle lent me some money and I opened my first shop in Portobello Road. Since then, I’ve never looked back, even in difficulties. In the first store, we only sold candles, but now we sell everything from furniture to paintings. Oh, and candles, of course.
76.How many furniture stores does Kyra Komac have now?
77.Where did Kyra’s mother sell flowers?
78.What did Kyra do in her free time when she was fourteen?
79.How did Kyra’s uncle help her to open her first shop?

A Special Way to Grow Up Growing up is a journey full of ups and downs.
Last term, I had a hard time with my studies. I often felt stressed because I couldn’t follow the teacher in class and did badly in exams. I even lost confidence in myself. To get out of the trouble, I started to listen to soft music every day after school. Music helped me relax and forget my worries. Sometimes I also wrote down my feelings in a diary. Slowly, I felt much better and found the courage to face my problems again.
From this experience, I learned that it’s important to find a proper way to deal with bad feelings. Music became my special friend. It taught me to be patient and never give up. Now I believe every difficulty is a chance to grow.
