In a Chinese class, the teacher read an old poem to students, “The ring of the bell reached the boat at midnight (夜半钟声到客船).” Then he stopped, and asked, “How could the sound travel so far?”
Well, that’s not a normal question in a Chinese class. But for “no-boundary classes” at Luwan Middle School in Shanghai, it is quite normal. In such classes, teachers work together and teach different kinds of knowledge in one class. The school has organized about 60 such classes. “We hope students can get a general understanding of science,” said He Li, headmaster of the school.
What subject could go together? The school lets teachers decide. They have tried putting physics and music, physics and Chinese, and physics and chemistry together.
To that question asked by the Chinese teacher, a physics teacher sitting near him gave the answer, “Sound waves deflect (偏折) towards a lower temperature. At midnight, the ground is colder than the air. The sound waves deflect towards the ground. So we can hear a faraway sound much clearer.”
“It was so interesting!” said Wang Yinkai, 14, from the school. “We didn’t think about any relationship between these subjects. But now in such classes, we learn to look at a question from different sides.”
Li Zhiyuan, 14, said that these classes also help students make more friends. “We often do both chemistry and physics experiments in one class,” said Li. It’s quite possible that you’re good at one subject but not the other. “So we need each other’s help.”
( ) 34. “How could the sound travel so far?” should be a ____ question.
A. Chinese B. music C. chemistry D. physics
( ) 35. What does “no-boundary” mean in the passage?
A. No subject walls. B. No relations between subjects.
C. Mix all the subjects into one. D. No-teacher classes.
( ) 36. It can be learned from Paragraph 4 that ____.
A. the air is colder than the ground at midnight
B. sound waves deflect towards a higher temperature
C. we can hear a faraway sound much better at midnight
D. the sound waves deflect towards the air at midnight
( ) 37. The “no-boundary classes” can help students ____.
a. communicate with other students
b. look at a question from different sides
c. pay more attention to science and Chinese
d. get different kinds of knowledge in one class
A. abc B. bcd C. acd D. abd

Primary and secondary schools across Chinese cities have increased the time of class breaks from 10 to 15 minutes since the beginning of the fall term in order to encourage outdoor activities among both students and teachers.
This move is to make sure students can have at least 30 minutes of physical exercise a day. So it is praised by parents and students. Cities including Beijing, Tianjin, and Qingdao have taken similar steps.
In Beijing, the increased break times have not affected students’ overall timetables. The time for morning arrival and afternoon dismissal (放学) remain unchanged in primary schools, while middle school dismissal has been delayed by five minutes, according to an official. The government also lifted (取消) early starts to classes and restrictions (限制) on break activities, stressing that the goal is to “return break time to the students.”
Schools in the Wuqing district of Tianjin have adopted (采用) 15-minute breaks and offered one physical education class daily. Students are required to engage in physical exercise which adds up to 100 minutes, with the aim of improving outdoor activities and social interaction (相互作用).
According to a local news report, a primary school in Qingdao introduced many different kinds of outdoor games during the 15-minute breaks, such as jump rope and hula hoop exercises. The school organizes students by floor to make sure that every child can take part in outdoor activities. A physical fitness examination in May showed that the percentage of Qingdao students achieving “excellent” or “good” fitness ratings (健康评估) increased by 10 percentage points to 47 percent.
( ) 38. What does “this move” in Paragraph 2 refer to (指的是)?
A. Exercising since the beginning of the term. B. Encouraging outdoor activities.
C. Increasing the time of class breaks. D. Cutting out breaks between two classes.
( ) 39. What does the underlined word “morning arrival” probably mean in Chinese?
A. 早操 B. 晨会 C. 晨读 D. 晨到
( ) 40. How many cities are mentioned in the passage?
A. 2 B. 3 C. 4 D. 5
( ) 41. What’s the structure of the text? (①=Paragraph 1 ②=Paragraph 2, ...)
A. ①② / ③④⑤ B. ① / ②③④⑤ C. ①②③ / ④⑤ D. ① / ②③ / ④⑤

Schools in China are studying how they can put VR (virtual reality 虚拟现实) lessons into their classroom experience. One such lesson uses VR to teach children fire safety. Instead of pens and paper, students wear VR headsets in the classroom. They are put into a virtual environment where a fire has broken out. They must find their way out and escape carefully.
At the VR medical school under Sichuan University, a virtual system (系统) allows medical students to examine human body in different ways. They can even separate organs (分离器官) for closer examination. Students can practice their operation skills without a real body.
Simon Leung, vice-chairman of a VR company, said the company has developed VR classrooms and computers that send students to a 360 degree digital world…Moreover, the VR headsets can tell whether children are paying attention to the task at hand.
Chinese parents, however, have a different opinion on VR lessons. They are doubtful (怀疑的) about VR because they are unsure if the technology will have bad effects. They are worried about their children’s eyesight, too.
Besides, VR equipment (设备) comes at a high price. A top VR headset and computer could cost up to 10,000 yuan. “We need to do more to cut down the cost and improve the user’s experience,” said Huang Ronghuai, professor at the Smart Learning Institute under Beijing Normal University, “But we are sure that we will change the model of education in the future.”
( ) 42. What do students need to wear in VR lessons?
A. Pens and paper B. VR headsets C. Safety goggles D. Lab coats
( ) 43. How can the VR medical school allow students to practice their operation skills?
A. By reading textbooks.
B. By watching videos.
C. By using a virtual system.
D. By attending live surgeries.
( ) 44. What are Chinese parents’ attitude towards VR?
A. They don’t care about the VR.
B. They are very supportive and excited.
C. They are excited and can’t wait to try it themselves.
D. They are doubtful and worried about the effects.
( ) 45. What is the best title of this passage?
A. The History of VR Technology
B. The Cost of VR Equipment
C. How to Improve Students’ Eyesight.
D. VR in Education: Opportunities and Challenges

Cleaning a house seems like a job that never ends. Have you ever stood in the middle of an untidy house, looking at the books and magazines around? You have the thought of tidying them up, but you give up before you start. Well, you are not alone. But luckily, I have found some nice ways to make myself willing to do the housework.
Have less stuff (物品)
Reducing (减少) the number of the things is a good way to make house cleaning easier. Every few months, I throw away some things we don’t need or use. It could be old clothes that no longer fit or books that I have already read and won’t pick up again. Fewer things make the house tidier and easier to clean.
Do a bit each day
Cleaning the whole house without a break can be really difficult, so I do a little each day. Monday could be the day to sweep the floors, Tuesday to make the bed, Wednesday to clean the bathroom, and so on. When the weekend comes, I can have fun watching a film or reading a good book instead of spending hours cleaning.
Start with the easiest task
When there’s a long list of housework, it can be hard to know where to begin. If so, I will start with the easiest task. When I complete the easiest task successfully, it will give me a sense of achievement. In this way, I will be more willing to go on with the rest of the housework.
Make housework interesting
Who says housework has to be boring? I’ve found that adding a little fun can make a big difference. I love listening to music and cleaning at the same time. As the music plays, I find myself dancing around. Time flies by and before I know it, the house is clean. I feel excited at the same time. It’s a win-win situation.
In short, housework doesn’t have to be something you hate. By using these ways, you can make it easier, or more enjoyable. You might even surprisingly find that you don’t mind cleaning at all.
