At 11:45 pm on March 19, Vinod Kapri, a former TV journalist and award-winning film-maker, was returning home from a dinner. As he was driving along Golf Course Road in the northern Indian city of Noida, near New Delhi, he spotted a kid racing along in the dead of night.
Kapri was alarmed at first—it was late and he was running so fast. So he slowed down and opened a window. The boy turned out to be 19-year-old Pradeep Mehra, who had just finished his work at McDonald’s and was returning home. Once it was evident that nothing was wrong, Kapri offered to drop the teen home, but Mehra politely turned him down and, without missing a beat, kept on running.
Surprised by his refusal, Kapri took out his cellphone and started filming their conversation because he could tell that there must be a story behind the midnight run. Mehra explained that he fell into the habit of running at midnight to keep fit so that he could achieve his dream of joining the army to serve his country. Kapri said the conversation left him deeply in awe of young Pradeep Mehra.
When asked if his regular midnight run was ever disturbed by cars, Mehra said, “I haven’t had too much of a problem with cars. But people are a different story! My midnight running habit does make people curious. Many have stopped to ask me why I run at this time of night, while others have made fun of me. There’s a lot of sarcasm (讥讽) too—I am warned that running like this will only get me chased by dogs. No matter what others say, I just smile at them. I’ve always believed that hard work has its own rewards, and that one day, I will reach my goal and succeed.”
Kapri came to help but instead left inspired. After asking permission to post the video, Kapri uploaded the recording, a little over 2 minutes, to his Twitter account. Kapri’s ending caption—“Run Pradeep run, to your brighter destiny”—touched many viewers.

Once a niche (小众的) sport, rock climbing has become a mainstream pleasure enjoyed by many. 1. However, with rock climbing’s rise in popularity, the amazing biodiversity sustained by cliff ecosystems is under pressure. To relieve this problem, there are numerous helpful acts you can do.
The presence of climbers at the cliff where birds are nesting can cause them to abandon their chicks to starvation. You should check if there are any bird nesting restrictions in the areas where you plan to climb. 2. And some organizations have an online database you can check.
Sometimes climbers also remove plants and soil when establishing a route that has not been climbed before so that it becomes more suitable for climbing. 3. Work with other route developers and conservationists to understand the potential impact of route development on the plants.
4. In the early days, climbers often collected data about the species and geography they encountered as part of an adventure. It is now much easier to contribute to science as a climber. Much of this comes down to the fact that each of us carries a tiny computer that can smoothly capture images, location, and sound and associate them with a timestamp—our smartphones!
Actually, in many places, climber representative bodies are taking great steps to ensure climbing is managed sustainably. This involves cooperating with the authorities of natural parks and conservation organizations so that agreements can be reached that minimize the impact of climbing on the environment while keeping regulations to a minimum. These organizations often have limited funds with which to achieve these goals and tend to rely on the support of volunteers. 5.
A.You can help by becoming a citizen scientist.
B.This information is usually available in climbing guidebooks.
C.This can wipe out the cliff ecosystem that was there previously.
D.Why not get in touch with one that inspires you and ask what you can do?
E.Keeping existing routes in good condition avoids the damage to vegetation.
F.These data can then be accessed by scientists to avoid environmental issues on cliffs.
G.The natural world offers an exciting adventure through beautiful environments filled with wildlife.

根据第二段的句子“Kapri was alarmed at first—it was late and he was running so fast. So he slowed down and opened a window.”以及“Once it was evident that nothing was wrong…”
根据第四段的句子“Many have stopped to ask me why I run at this time of night, while others have made fun of me. There’s a lot of sarcasm (讥讽) too—I am warned that running like this will only get me chased by dogs.”
根据第三段的句子“Mehra explained that he fell into the habit of running at midnight to keep fit so that he could achieve his dream of joining the army to serve his country.”可知,梅赫拉对国家忠诚;根据第四段的句子“No matter what others say, I just smile at them. I’ve always believed that hard work has its own rewards, and that one day, I will reach my goal and succeed.”
故选A项。
1.G 根据前文“…rock climbing has become a mainstream pleasure enjoyed by many.”以及后文“However, with rock climbing’s rise in popularity, the amazing biodiversity sustained by cliff ecosystems is under pressure.” 中的an exciting adventure与前文的a mainstream pleasure enjoyed by many 相呼应,且与下文提到的不良影响形成对比,符合语境。故选G。
2.B 根据前文“You should check if there are any bird nesting restrictions in the areas where you plan to climb.”以及后文“And some organizations have an online database you can check.”
3.C 根据前文“Sometimes climbers also remove plants and soil when establishing a route that has not been climbed before so that it becomes more suitable for climbing.”可知,此处提到攀岩者在开辟适宜攀岩的路线时,通常会除去路上的植物和土壤;后文“Work with other route developers and conservationists to understand the potential impact of route development on the plants.”
4.A 根据后文“Much of this comes down to the fact that each of us carries a tiny computer that can smoothly capture images, location, and sound and associate them with a timestamp—our smartphones!” 故选A。
5.D 根据前文“These organizations often have limited funds with which to achieve these goals and tend to rely on the support of volunteers.”

故填and。
此处为句型“It be adj. to do sth.”,it作形式主语,故填it。
5.that/which 考查定语从句。
故填to reach。
