Laughter, ①which is the best medicine, has the power to turn
the darkest days into moments of joy and light. It is a universal

sense of humour often find joy in the simplest of pleasures, like a

share jokes and laughter. The tiny acts of kindness, ⑤through
which we spread positivity, are like ripples in a pond, affecting
those around us. In times ⑥when the world seems heavy with
troubles, a good laugh can lift spirits and remind us of the beauty in
life. ⑦As we all know, even the smallest of gestures, like a warm
smile or an encouraging word, can have a profound impact. When
we choose to spread joy instead of sorrow, we create a ripple effect

1.关系代词which/who/whom可以引导非限制性定语从句,在从句中
[2024·新课标Ⅱ卷] Chinese cultural elements commemorating (纪念)
Tang Xianzu, who is known as “the Shakespeare of Asia”, add an
international character to Stratford-upon-Avon, William Shakespeare’s
hometown.

There are varieties of performances, ranging from poetry reading,
singing, dancing to short plays, which will be performed by some
teachers and students from our school.
China Daily attracts a worldwide readership, which shows that more
and more people all over the world want to learn about China.
“whose+n.”相当于“the+n.+of whom”;先行词是物时,“whose+n.”
相当于“the+n.+of which”。如:
The books on the desk, whose covers(=the covers of which) are
shiny, are prizes for us.
As is seen from the picture, the serene lake reflects the surrounding
trees and the clear blue sky.
We will put off the picnic in the park until next week, when the
weather may be better.
21
The park has now been turned into a shopping mall, where we
used to play as children.
Lucy was absent from Mr Smith’s lecture yesterday, for which she
made an apology to him.
The scientist made a special telescope, through which he could
study the universe and stars.
John, with whom I’ve been friends for years, is moving to another
country.
Peter has two sisters, both of whom work as nurses.(非限制性定语从句)
24
I still remember the moment when I first realized my dream, and my
heart was filled with a sense of accomplishment that couldn’t be put
into words.
26
3.非限制性定语从句的引导词无论在从句中作什么成分,均不可省略;
The employer, who/whom all the employees respect, is concerned
about his employees’ working conditions.
This is the latest work of the famous novelist (that) I have been
looking forward to.

To be funny is not just talent but a skill that can be learned.
Many people believe humour is natural. Research, however, shows
that funny people actually practise techniques. Being funny matters.
1. Yet most common advice on humour sounds vague
Suggestions like “listen carefully” or “be surprising” leave
people wondering how to use them in real life. Fortunately,
researchers and comedians have provided practical strategies.

One of the easiest techniques is to give the opposite answer to
yes/no questions. When people expect “yes”, a sudden “no” creates
surprise and laughter. The magic is that the moment you give the
opposite answer, you have surprised your audience, so they laugh.
2.
The Rule of 3 is another useful method. 3. For example,
“I love hot dogs, hamburgers, and handsome men.” The break in
pattern catches attention and creates humour. Similarly, switching

character roles in a story can also work. If the “serious” person
suddenly acts silly, or the “weak” one becomes powerful, the change
surprises the audience.
4. Jokes may fail if the punchline (妙语) is weak, but
true experiences are relatable. That is why many comedians collect
daily observations and later share them. If the story is not funny, it
still has meaning; if it is funny, the effect is even stronger. In daily
life, you can do the same: note down things that made you laugh
and retell them naturally in conversation.
