Passage 1
(25-26九年级上·广东省东莞五校·期中)
No one remembers everything. Luckily, we don’t usually have to. But everyone can improve their memory if they want to. Here is some advice.
●Try to use new information immediately. For example, if you meet someone who says “Hi, I’m Carlos”, don’t just say “Hello”. Repeat the person’s name. Say “ ▲ ”
●Break a big number into smaller parts. For example, it’s hard to memorize 109244153. But if you break it into three parts—109/244/153—it becomes easier.
●Write out what you need to remember over and over again. This will help you keep it in your mind longer, especially for memorizing formulas (公式) or facts.
●Always review information. For example, before you go to sleep, it’s a good idea to review the new things you learned that day.
●Discuss with a friend. It is always easier to remember things through discussions. You can have a discussion about what’s right and what’s wrong, and it will lead to the right answer.
And everyone’s memory will get better if they use it often enough. All of the suggestions are helpful. If you follow them, you are certain to improve your memory.

Passage 2
(25-26九年级上·广东省茂名市多校联考·期中)
Time management (管理)was the greatest challenge for me in high school. I had to balance (兼顾) my subjects, activities, social life and the rest. I was often angry with my family members just because I didn’t plan my time well. For example, I might shout at them for troubling me when I was working. And sometimes I might say something bad to them when I missed deadlines (截止日期), even if it was actually my fault for cramming everything in (把……堆积起来) at the last minute.
As time goes by, I realise that time management is very important in our everyday lives. The best advice to deal with time management is “break it into pieces”. It’s really important for you to learn how to break a big project into small and manageable tasks. Then you can work progressively and have a sense of achievement whenever you’ve done with a small part.
Another piece of advice is to make a timetable for yourself. It must be a straightforward one. So you can follow it without difficulty. It doesn’t have to be the one that you follow completely, either. It’s just there to serve as a guide. You can compare your actual timetable with the planned one to see how well you actually use your time.
The final suggestion is to always set deadlines for yourself. Look at how many tasks you have to finish. Manage your time in a correct way. Try to finish your tasks before every deadline.
1.Why was the writer angry with the family members?
A.The writer was weak in subjects. B.The writer’s social life was boring.
C.The writer failed to plan the time well. D.The writer had no chance to plan activities.
2.How can you manage time well according to the writer?
A.By asking a guide for help. B.By following the timetable completely.
C.By cramming things in at the last minute. D.By turning a big task into small tasks.
3.What does the underlined word “straightforward” mean in Paragraph 3?
A.Simple. B.Strange. C.Dangerous. D.Terrible.
4.Why should you set yourself deadlines?
A.It is the most difficult task. B.It is a good way to set a timetable.
C.It helps you manage your time well. D.It encourages you to correct your mistakes.
5.What is the best title for the passage?
A.Good Timetables B.Time Management
C.School Achievements D.Difficult Social Life
Passage 3
(25-26九年级上·广东省中山市华侨中学·期中)
Each year many people get lost in the mountains. Losing one’s way in the forest can be an uneasy and terrible experience. However, if you find you’ve got lost, stop at once. In many cases, you will find that following your footsteps will bring you back to the road. If not, follow these steps:
Stay calm. If you get lost, panic is your greatest enemy. If you run wildly around, even for a little while you could lose your sense of direction. Try to remember how you got to your present location.
Start marking. Leave markers wherever you go, so you can return. Also, if people try to rescue (营救) you, they will look for markers. So make as many of them as you can. On every turn, try to mark the direction you are taking. You got off the road, maybe ten minutes ago, so if you retrace (折回) more than that time, you know you are on the wrong way.
Stay put. Remember that if you can’t retrace your steps, then it’s better to just stay where you are and let the searchers find you. Sing loudly or shout for help when you hear others trying to find you. If you have a whistle (哨子), blow it. Moreover, stay in the open so they can find you easily. Do not hide in the unseen areas.
Follow down a river. It can be hard to go but will often lead to a road. And you will finally come back to a village or a town.
1.What is the greatest enemy if you get lost?
A.Worry. B.Wild animals. C.Panic. D.Cold weather.
2.What does the underlined word “them” in Paragraph 3 refer to?
A.Steps. B.Locations. C.Markers. D.Directions.
3.If you can’t retrace your steps, what should you do to help the searchers find you?
A.Hide in the unseen areas of the forest. B.Sit down and wait quietly for a rescue.
C.Stay in the open and shout for help. D.Follow a river to find a trail.
4.What are the reasons for leaving markers?
①To remember the way back. ②To help the searchers find you.
③To mark the spot where you got lost. ④To mark the direction you are taking.
⑤To help find the river.
A.①②④ B.②④⑤ C.①③⑤ D.①②③
5.What is the main idea of the passage?
A.A common problem that many people face. B.The greatest enemy when someone gets lost.
C.How to find your way out in forests. D.Why we lose our way in forests.

Passage 1
(25-26九年级上·广东省潮州市潮安区·期中)
Every year, a large number of birds hit the glass in the US, according to the Wild Animals Service. In China, such accidents are common, too.
One key reason for this problem is the glass. During the day, birds fly towards the glass as it reflects the sky and nearby trees creating a misleading view. As night falls, birds fly according to the position of the moon and stars, and the bright light of the glass building might also draw them.
These accidents could be avoided if we use proper ways. A German bird research group learned a skill from a little spider. When insects hit spider webs, spiders often catch them, while birds do not hit spider webs and always avoid them in time. After research, it was discovered that the spider silk can actually reflect UV (紫外线), while birds can see UV.
Scientists think that if glass is covered with a UV coating (涂层), birds will regard it as “a huge spider web hanging in the sky”, and they will cleverly avoid it. And to humans, this bird-visible glass looks no different from regular glass, as human eyes cannot detect UV.
The final test results show that 66% of birds consider the special glass as a wall. “Although it may not be as high as our expected 95% or 100%, it can already save a lot of birds,” said scientists.
Nature seems to have the ability to solve things. In fact, when we deal with accidents of birds by using methods from the spider web, we are trying to use natural ways to protect animals.
1.How does the writer lead into the topic in Paragraph 1?
A.By giving a fact. B.By telling a story. C.By using a saying. D.By asking a question.
2.Why do birds hit the glass during the day?
A.Because of high buildings in cities. B.Because of the carelessness of the birds.
C.Because of the bright lights during the day. D.Because of the reflection of the sky and trees in the glass.
3.The underlined word “regard” in Paragraph 4 means ________.
A.increase B.see C.celebrate D.request
4.Which picture could best match the test results?
A. B. C. D.
5.What is the best title for the passage?
A.Birds and UV Light B.Saving Flying Birds
C.Glass and Spider Webs D.Avoiding Bird Accidents
Passage 2
(25-26九年级上·广东省佛山市禅城实验高级中学·期中)
Recently, many young people have turned to trees to help with their stress. Although it sounds strange, there’s science behind the act of tree-hugging.
▲ In fact, humans are born to love being around other living things. Humans’ love for nature is in their DNA.This idea helps to explain why people prefer natural, green views to city views. It’s also one of the reasons why people love cute pets.
Some studies have been done to find out why tree-hugging can help with our health. A study reported that the activity can increase the level of oxytocin (催产素). It is an important hormone (激素) which can influence our feelings. The higher the level of oxytocin is, the calmer and happier you may be. Hugging trees for only 21 seconds can lead to an increase in the level of oxytocin.
Another hormone called cortisol (皮质醇) is a marker of stress. The brain produces more cortisol when the person is anxious, angry or very sad. Hugging trees helps decrease cortisol production, which makes us feel better.
Although the activity is helpful to us, it’s important to keep in mind that we shouldn’t hurt nature while doing it. Many small living things live in the tree, and they are too small to be seen. So remember to hug trees softly-just like how you hug a friend!
1.How does the writer start the passage?
A.By listing numbers. B.By raising questions. C.By presenting facts. D.By explaining reasons.
2.Which of the following can be put in “▲” in Paragraph 2?

3.Which may describe the relationship between good feelings and the level of oxytocin?
(x = good feelings y = the level of oxytocin)
A.B. C. D.
4.What does the underlined word “decrease” mean in Paragraph 4?
A.Increase. B.Cut.
C.Shorten. D.Keep.
5.What is the best title for the passage?

C.More Trees, Better Life! D.Feel Down? Hug a Tree!
Passage 3
(25-26九年级上·广东省惠州市惠阳区第一中学·期中)
You can put a stamp on it, you can write an address on it, and you can send it through the mail. No, it’s not a package (包裹). It’s the amazing coconut (椰子)! The coconut is different from most other fruits because every part of it is useful. People have been using coconuts in many different ways. Here are some of them.
One exciting use of the coconut is as a kind of energy. Scientists are working on using coconuts for energy because they are cheap and clean. Coconut oil has already been made into fuel (燃料). It can power cars, trucks, ships and many more.
Students at Baylor University find that coconut husks (外壳) can take in water very well. So mixing coconut husks with dry soil (土壤) helps the soil to hold onto more of the water. The students also find that coconut husks can take the place of plastic in some cases. If this is possible, it will help people use less plastic.
The husk of the coconut is a perfect package. It protects the coconut from harm. That’s why some countries allow people to send the coconut without any packaging. Each year, tourists post about 3,000 of these “coconut postcards”.
Coconuts grow naturally in over 80 countries of the world. They require only sun and proper rain. No special care is needed. Every year, more than 61 million tons of coconuts are produced. It is not surprising, then, that people want to find so many uses for the coconut.

A. B. C. D.
Passage 4
(25-26九年级上·广东省东莞市南城区·期中)
Is the sky bluer in autumn than in summer? The answer is yes! There are some reasons behind this.
The sun is lower in the sky in autumn. As the days get shorter, the sun appears lower and lower in the sky. It’s not directly above us anymore, and more of the sky is at an angle (角度) away from the sun. This lets more blue light reach our eyes, making the sky seem bluer.
In autumn, there is less water in the air, so there are fewer clouds. Autumn is known for good weather—lower temperatures and less wet air. The air does not hold much water, so clouds do not form easily. When there are few or no clouds covering the sky, the blue color of the sky shows more clearly, and the sky looks more open and bright.
You might be surprised, but the colorful leaves of autumn actually help give the sky’s blue a color boost, which can make the sky seem even bluer. If you’ve made a color wheel for an art class, you will know that blue and orange are opposite colors that look good together. The red, orange, and gold leaves of autumn make the blue sky stand out beautifully against them. This contrast looks nice and creates a special autumn view.
So, the next time you go out enjoying the beautiful weather in autumn, take a moment to look up at the sky, remember these reasons why it looks so blue and enjoy the view!
1.Why does the sky look bluer in autumn according to Paragraph 2?
A.Because the sun is smaller in the sky.
B.Because the sun isn’t as high as it is in other seasons.
C.Because we can’t see more blue light.
D.Because the sun is directly above us.
2.Which one shows the relationship between the water in the air (x) and the blue color of the sky (y) ?
A. B. C. D.
3.What does the underlined word “boost” mean in Paragraph 4?
A.Introduction. B.Record. C.Change. D.Improvement.
4.What is the structure of the passage?
A. B. C. D.
5.What is the best title for the passage?
A.Colors of Autumn: From Leaves to the Sky. B.Autumn Weather: Cooler and less Wet.
C.The Most Beautiful Season: Autumn. D.A Bluer Sky in Autumn: The Reasons Behind It.
Passage 5
(25-26九年级上·广东省惠州市第二中学·期中)
When we talk about smart animals, what comes to your mind? Your answer may be dogs or monkeys. Now, you can add one more to the list: sheep.
Sheep has powerful face-recognition abilities. Researchers from the University of Cambridge trained eight sheep to recognize the faces of four famous people and pick them out from two different photos. One was a photo of an unknown person and the other was one of the four famous people. If the sheep chose the right photo, it could get food but nothing if they did it wrong. After some time, the sheep could connect the food with the correct photos and make the right choice 8 out of 10 times.
Then the researchers gave them another task to see if the sheep could recognize the same person from a different angle. The photos showed only the left face or the right face. The animals were still able to recognize them, though their performance dropped by about 15%.
In the last test, the researchers showed photos of their trainers along with a number of other people’s faces. Without any training, the sheep could pick out their trainers 7 out of 10 times.
It is not surprising why sheep are smart. ▲ That means they can be useful models to help us understand brain diseases like Huntington’s disease. The study offers another way to learn how these abilities change, especially in sheep who carry the gene mutation (基因突变) that causes Huntington’s disease.
1.Why does the writer mention dogs and monkeys in the first paragraph?
A.To tell the difference among animals.
B.To show that sheep are as smart as them.

By the year 2040, classrooms will be totally different from what they are now. Here are some typical examples of the changes we may see in schools in future.
Interactive (互动的) walls will take the place of traditional blackboards. In traditional classrooms, teachers write on blackboards, but in future classrooms, teachers will write all the important words and knowledge points on the interactive walls. Students can also show their writing to the teachers on their intelligent desks. This can make students more active and more interested in class.
Holograms (全息图) will bring a new learning experience. What does outer space look like? Most of us learn about this from photos in books, but it is hard to have a real understanding only through these flat pictures. Students in the future will be able to have very different experiences. They can learn from 3D pictures in the classroom with the help of holograms. They can “get close to” stars, planets or even ancient creatures.
Virtual (虚拟) reality (VR) will offer students real scenes in class. When students learn about a king in history, they will be able to “walk” in the palace with him and feel the life of the ancient palace. When studying natural sciences, they can “step into” a rainforest or a deep sea. They will not only read about knowledge in books, but also “experience” it personally.

A recent study in a British medical magazine shows that many kinds of foods we enjoy, such as chips, cookies, and ice cream, are all ultra-processed (超加工的). What are ultra-processed foods (UPFs)? In short, we can’t re-create them in our kitchen. They are usually made in factories. They have long lists of additives (添加剂)—some we may never have heard of.
The study shows that people may strongly crave such food. We usually can’t stop eating it, or we may feel sad. But why do UPFs make us want to keep eating them all the time? Usually, natural foods are either high in sugar or high in fat. UPFs, however, are usually high in both. It makes us feel happier and want to eat more.
It is said that 14 percent of adults and 12 percent of children crazily love UPFs. However, they cause problems to people’s health around the world. Eating too many UPFs will lead to poor diet and increase the risks of serious illness. For example, UPFs lovers are more likely to get heart disease and certain cancers.
Governments are taking action right now. Some governments put taxes (税) on sugary drinks to make them more expensive, so fewer people will buy them. This idea can be used on the UPFs as well. Passage 1
(25-26九年级上·广东省珠海市紫荆中学·期中)
Have you ever wondered why we say shangcesuo (上厕所) instead of xiacesuo, and yijianxiangzuo (意见相左) instead of yijianxiangyou? Many Chinese words have directions in them, and there is lots of history and culture hidden behind.
Up or down
We use shangcesuo to mean “go to the bathroom” and xiachufang to mean “go to the kitchen”. Why? In ancient times, houses were laid out in a certain way. The gate of the house would face south, with the bathroom in the northeastern part of the house and the kitchen in the southeastern part. In Chinese, we talk about the north as shang and the south as xia. So people would say they’re going up to the bathroom and down to the kitchen.
Ancient Chinese not only used shang and xia to refer to (指代) directions but also social positions. For example, people used huangshang to refer to the emperor and dianxia to refer to princes who had a lower position than the emperor.
Left or right
Most people today are right-handed. They feel uncomfortable if they try to use their left hand to write or use chopsticks. This was true in old times as well. (25-26九年级上·广东省珠海市部分学校·期中)
In ancient China, there were “four treasures of the study”—the writing brush, ink, paper, and the inkstone (砚台). Among all the inkstones, the Chengni inkstone was one of the most famous and was widely loved.
The Chengni inkstone has a long history, first appearing during the Western Han Dynasty, but the skills of making it were lost during the late Ming Dynasty and early Qing Dynasty. Thankfully, today the traditional skills have been revived (恢复) with the help of Lin Yongmao and his son Lin Tao.
In 1984, Lin Yongmao began working at the museum in Xinjiang County, Shanxi Province. There he read some books about the Xinjiang Chengni inkstone, and then decided to revive the lost skills.
It was easier said than done. It took the father and son two years to find proper material to produce the Chengni inkstone. That was just the first step. After failing many times, they finally succeeded in making two Chengni inkstones in 1991. Three years later, their Chengni inkstones won a gold prize at an expo (博览会) on China’s famous inkstones.

Passage 1
(25-26九年级上·广东省珠海市第十一中学·期中)
Have you ever experienced endless work, great pressure, or carried high expectations? Just feel like screaming, don’t you? Don’t worry! HALT, which comes from the words—hungry, angry, lonely and tired, can be used as a tool to help you deal with your emotions. That is to say, when you feel bad, ask yourself if you have the following problems: hunger, anger, loneliness, or tiredness, and then do with them first.
● Hungry? Eat!
Feeling mad? It could be hunger influencing your mood. When you’re hungry, your blood sugar level drops. If it drops below the normal level, you may become absent-minded and it’s easy for you to lose temper, and you’ll have bad mood. At this time, the lower your blood sugar level falls, the worse your mood will become. To balance your blood sugar level and improve your mood, you can carry some healthy snacks or some fruit in your bag.
● Angry? Pause!
When you’re angry with someone or something, just stop thinking about the problems. Taking deep breaths and writing down your feelings in a notebook are both good choices. Such simple actions can help you cool down and avoid saying or doing something you might regret later.
● Lonely? Connect!
Feeling lonely can make you sad or anxious. You can reach out to a friend or family member to chat with. You can also join a sports team or an art club to meet new people. Then you’ll feel more connected. Sometimes, just knowing that you’re not alone can help youweatherthe storm.
● Tired? Rest!
If you’re tired, your brain won’t work well. It’s time for you to change your work pace. Try taking a 5-minute break after a 25-minute study. You can dance to a song or simply close your eyes for a moment. Make sure to sleep early to refresh your brain for the next day.
To manage these feelings, you can also prepare a HALT first-aid kit. It is just as the saying goes, “________”. The things you put in your kit may include some snacks, a stress ball, a list of “happy songs” and even a comfortable sweater. After all, taking good care of our bodies helps our mind stay stronger. Let’s make good use of HALT. Through controlling our emotions well, we can make better decisions in our lives.

Passage 2
(25-26九年级上·广东省东莞市东华初级中学·期中)
What will you say if you need to tell someone about yourself? Seeing yourself from the outside can be hard. However, knowing who you are helps you understand your feelings and make friendships stronger.
Self-awareness (自我意识) means learning about your thoughts, feelings, and actions. It is a simple viewpoint. For example, you might know you love playing basketball because you’re good at it. This is part of being self-aware.
Self-awareness is important. When you know what you like and dislike, you can make better choices. Believing in your feelings can build confidence further. Self-awareness is one of the ten important life skills for a happy and healthy life. Being self-aware isn’t just about thinking about yourself. Understanding your own feelings helps you understand others better, too.
A great way to learn about yourself is to ask questions. Use “What” instead of “Why”. If you keep arguing (争吵) with a friend, ask yourself what you disagree on instead of why you’re arguing. Looking for the same points about your likes and dislikes helps you learn more about yourself.
Learning self-awareness is a skill, and that means you can learn it as you grow. Try new things, like doing a new sport or listening to different music. Don’t worry if you don’t like something. Finding out what’s hard or challenging is part of learning about yourself. Keep exploring, and you’ll understand yourself better day by day!

The Yangtze finless porpoise (长江江豚) is a special animal that only lives in China’s Yangtze River. People call it the “smiling angel (天使)” because its mouth looks like it is always smiling.
Scientists are working hard to protect this animal because another animal called the baiji dolphin (白鱀豚) used to live in the same river. But in 2006, scientists found that the baiji dolphin vanished from the river. This made them worry about the Yangtze finless porpoise.
The number of Yangtze finless porpoises was once falling very fast. In 2012, there were only about 1,000 left. ▲ The government also saved them by stopping fishing in the river for ten years and making new environmental laws. By 2022, there were about 1,249 finless porpoises.
In 1990, some Yangtze finless porpoises were moved to a lake called Tian’e Zhou. At first, there were only five Yangtze finless porpoises in this lake. But now there are more than 100. Passage 2
(25-26九年级上·广东省清远市连州市·期中)
Climate change has caused serious health problems around the world. More and more people have paid attention to the problems caused by climate change.
Extreme weather events such as high temperatures, floods, and wildfires usually happen around the world. For example, there was heavy rain in Liaoning in 2024 and long hot days in the south that year. These disasters broke houses, ruined crops and made people move. In 2024, floods alone affected over 53 million Chinese people and brought big losses, which are bad for people’s lives and health.
Another big problem is air pollution. It’s getting worse because of wildfires and the use of oil and coal. What’s more, climate change makes Beijing’s pollen (花粉) seasons longer and worse. The spring pollen season in Beijing in 2024 probably started on March 15th. Its 2025 spring pollen came 4 to 7 days earlier than in 2024. When thunderstorms come, they break pollen into very small pieces. These small pieces easily get into people’s noses and throats, which causes breathing problems. All these changes are especially bad for children and old people.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has worked with countries. They want to build healthy systems that are good for the environment. This includes training doctors, providing good medical machines and making low-carbon projects. For example, some countries are using renewable energy like solar power to supply electricity to hospitals so as to cut pollution.
Nowadays, countries around the world are making efforts for this. By joining efforts in energy, environmental protection and public health, the world can be better.
1.The number of Chinese people affected by floods in Paragraph 2 is mentioned to ________?
A.show that people hate living in flood areas

Passage 1
(25-26九年级上·广东省东莞市虎门外语学校·期中)
① At the 15th China Airshow, a four-legged robot showed up and its special design and strong abilities surprised visitors from all over the world. This new kind of robots is created by China on its own and known as “robot wolves”.
② For the design idea, “robot wolves” come from real wolves in nature. Real wolves have sharp eyes. They also have fast movements and quick minds. However, what makes real wolves special is their teamwork when they hunt. According to that, CSIG (中国兵器装备集团公司) developed this new “iron fighter”.
③ For key technology, robot wolves have small sensors, radars (雷达) and cameras on their heads. They can “see” everything nearby and collect information from the environment fast. Also, with four metal legs, they can move easily on rough land like mountains and broken buildings — places where traditional robots often can’t reach. Besides, they use AI to make its own choices and plan where to go — no human control is needed at all.
④ With the key technology, the robot wolves are famous for their use in the military (军队). Working together, they are able to make fights safer without wasting time or energy. When they act, each has a clear job:
·Reconnaissance (侦察) Wolves are the team’s “eyes”. Within 2,000 meters, they can find goals, tell what the team needs to do, and send information back quickly.
·Attack Wolves are the “front-line” fighters. They move like snakes to find the best place to shoot, and use light guns to attack bad people.
·Transport and Support Wolves are the “logistics (后勤) helpers”. They follow the team and can help carry up to 20 kg of things.
⑤ In daily life, they can also help. After earthquakes or fires, they go into dangerous places to look for people or carry heavy things. What’s more, they can be teaching tools for AI and robot technology, helping teenagers get more interested in science. They help with science research as well — someday, they may help scientists explore other planets or the deep ocean.
⑥ By learning from nature and using new technology, robot wolves not only show how China’s robot technology is developing, but also how technology can help people and explore the world in amazing ways.
1.What gave CSIG the idea to make “robot wolves”?
A.The fast movements of the real wolves. B.The teamwork of the real wolves.
C.The quick minds of the real wolves. D.The sharp eyes of the real wolves.
2.According to paragraph 5, how are robot wolves used in daily life now?
① To search for people who are still alive after earthquakes.
② To transport daily vegetables and fruits to families.
③ To take part in planet exploration projects.
④ To serve as teaching tools for AI and robot technology.
A.①② B.②③ C.①④ D.③④
3.Which of the following would the writer most probably agree with?
A.Robot wolves show how China’s technology influences military and daily life.
B.Robot wolves will take the place of human soldiers in the future.
C.Learning from nature is a useless way to develop technology.
D.Robot wolves won’t be able to work in difficult situations like in the deep ocean.
4.The underlined word “sensor” in the sentence probably means ________.
A.A device used to measure physical properties (特性) (like light, sound) and send signals
B.A small screen used to display pictures or data from the robot
C.A tool used to store large amounts of information for the robot
D.A part used to make sounds so the robot can communicate with others
5.Which of the following shows the structure of this passage?
A.B. C. D.
Passage 2
(25-26九年级上·广东省佛山市顺德区·期中)
This year’s Nobel Prize in Medicine has been awarded to two scientists who discovered a powerful new way to fight superbugs (超级细菌). Superbugs are bacteria (细菌) that have become resistant to normal medicines, making them a main global health problem.
The winners, Dr. Lena Chen from Canada and Dr. Marco Rossi from Italy, made their breakthrough discovery in a surprising place-soil. After years of research, they found a tiny natural particle (微粒) in soil that can effectively (有效地) kill these dangerous superbugs without harming human cells. They named this particle “Terramycin”. It works by breaking down the strong outer wall of the bacteria. Once this protective wall is destroyed, the bacteria quickly die.
Their research journey began more than ten years ago when they started examining thousands of soil samples (样本) from different environments around the world. After many failures and challenges, they finally found this special particle in a sample from a tropical (热带的) rainforest. What makes their discovery even more unusual is that Terramycin appears to be effective against several types of superbugs that used to be very difficult to treat.
This discovery comes at a critical time. Each year, millions of people worldwide suffer from infections (感染) that regular antibiotics (抗生素) aren’t effective, leading to many deaths. This new finding gives doctors hope for fighting these dangerous infections. A new medicine based on Terramycin is currently undergoing testing and might be available for patients within the next few years.

So in ancient China, “left” was related to being different, such as in yijianxiangzuo. If people don’t accept common beliefs, we still say they are following ▲ .
“Left” and “right” also have something to do with people’s social position. For a long time in ancient China, “right” stood for higher position than “left”. For example, the character “佑”, developed from “右”, means a person in a higher position would protect someone in a lower position.

A.To tell a story. B.To introduce the topic.

A.To tell a story of the emperor and prince.
B.To show that shang and xia refer to directions.
C.To show how houses were laid out in ancient China.
D.To explain that shang and xia can be used to show social positions.

But the father and son did not stop there. While improving the skills of making the Chengni inkstone, they set up a workshop in the hope of passing the skills on to young people.
● Lonely? Connect!
Feeling lonely can make you sad or anxious. You can reach out to a friend or family member to chat with. You can also join a sports team or an art club to meet new people. Then you’ll feel more connected. Sometimes, just knowing that you’re not alone can help youweatherthe storm.

The Nobel Committee praised this work as an important advancement for all humanity. It proves that sometimes, the solutions to our most challenging problems can be found in the natural world around us.
