Passage 5
(25-26高一上·宁夏回族自治区石嘴山市第一中·期中)Eight fitness exercises you can do at home
Walking
An effective walking workout at home will help to strengthen your legs, while getting some low impact aerobic exercise as well. If you don’t have any stairs available, just walk around the house a few times — it may not be very exciting, but it will do the job!
Jumping jacks
These are always fun, as they bring back memories of being a kid! Who hasn’t done jumping jacks for fun as a child? Well, surprise — they are also great cardio exercises, and good for warming up, too.
Push-ups
These are probably not the most favorite exercise of many people, but while they can be hard to do, you can find easier ways to do them. You don’t need to pretend you’re “Rocky”, and do them with one hand: just do what works for you. Do them on your knees, instead of keeping your legs straight. Or, do them by standing up against a wall. You will build up arm strength and work out muscles in your chest area.
Leg lifts
These are great for building up strength and muscles in your legs. If you find it hard to do the exercises with your legs straight, try bending them slightly.
Crunches
It’s the best exercise for building up and strengthening belly muscles. When you’re just getting started, don’t worry about getting your head all the way up. So long as you’re going up until you feel the stretching of the muscles, you will see some benefit.
Jogging in place
Jogging is a great exercise for your heart. You can jog in place at home while watching TV or listening to music. The only equipment you will require is a good pair of shoes, to eliminate any stress to your legs.
Squats
These are wonderful exercises for your legs and bottoms. You can even just try these by sitting and standing up again from a regular chair, if you’re finding them to be too difficult. As long as you’re able to do a few repetitions, you will provide some benefit to your body.
Dancing
Dancing is a wonderful exercise, which is great for your heart. Not only that, but it can lift your spirits as well, and give your overall feeling a boost.
1.Which column does this article belong to if in the newspaper?
A. Health. B. Entertainment. C. Travel. D. Advertisement.
2.If Tom wants to strengthen his chest muscle, which exercise is most suitable for him?
A. Walking. B. Push-ups. C. Jumping jacks. D. Squats.
3.What exercises are best for heart?
A. Walking and Push-ups.
B. Leg lifts and Crunches.
C. Squats and Dancing.
D. Dancing and Jogging in place.

★See a Penguin
This is a once-in-a-lifetime holiday in the snow and ice of the Antarctica. You can see animals and birds you only see on TV or in zoos. The trip starts in South Africa and finishes in Western Australia. You travel on a Russian ship, Kapitan Khlebnikov, and the holiday lasts for just under a month.
★Go on Safari

You travel by helicopter (直升飞机) over parts of Kenya, listening to music as you fly, and then you sleep under the African stars in a comfortable bed. There’s another trip in a hot-air balloon, which gives you a second chance to see wild animals. If you dream of life on a quiet island, then this is the holiday for you. The island of Quilalea is off the coast of Mozambique and you can only see turtles (海龟) and a few tourists there. You may live like Robinson Crusoe: watch the turtles, go fishing, or travel in a boat to another island to have a picnic.
★Fly High
This is probably the most expensive holiday in the world. You can go on a flight into space and travel around the Earth in a spaceship — if you have the money! The only problem with this holiday is the six-day training course before you take the trip. You travel above the Earth for between 30 and 90 minutes and you get a beautiful view of our green and blue planet.

Passage 2
(25-26高一上·山西三晋联盟山西名校·期中)Except Machu Picchu, the destinations below show a side of Peru that most visitors won’t miss — from breathtaking cities and villages to amazing lakes and forests.
Arequipa
Arequipa is Peru’s second-largest city, surrounded by five volcanoes (火山), with El Misti towering above the skyline. The city is famous for its white buildings made of sillar, a volcanic stone, which gives it the title “White City”. The bright sunlight makes the city shine, and Arequipa is also recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Yanque
Reaching the Andean town of Yanque requires a long journey along the Pan-American Highway, which winds its way into the mountains and climbs route (路径). The route passes through small villages and Inca fields. Yanque is still a peaceful town, with a quiet square and a handful of shops. National Geographic explorer Robert Shippee once called it a “half forgotten town in the world”, and the description still rings true today.
Ayaviri
In the high plains near Ayaviri, Tinajani Canyon is a natural wonder. The canyon, over 75,000 years old, is home to huge red sandstone formations. The canyon sits at 13,123 feet above sea level and is home to rare plants like Puya rainmondii, the largest bromeliad in the world, which flowers only once every hundred years.
Lake Titicaca
Lake Titicaca, covering across 3,204 square miles, lies not far from Puno City. This beautiful lake is surrounded by snow-capped towering mountains. It is home to the Uros floating (漂浮的) islands, more than 130 man-made platforms made totally of water plants from the lake. Passage 3
(25-26高一上·山西大学附属中学·期中)To celebrate the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II, we highly recommend four films about war.
Schindler’s List (1993)
The film tells the true story of Oskar Schindler, a German businessman who risked everything to save over 1,200 Jews from the horrors of Nazi. Shot in contrasting black and white, it vividly captures the cruelty and sufferings of the war, emphasizes the value of every human life and offers an insightful reflection on the power of good.
Saving Private Ryan (1998)
Set in 1944 Normandy, the film hits home with the bloody opening scene of Omaha Beach. Captain Miller led a team to rescue Private Ryan, whose three brothers were all killed in the war. The shaky camera movements create a realistic sense of chaos, urgency and violence. Overall, the film is a profound exploration of the meaning of war, human nature and the value of life.
The Pianist (2002)
Based on a true story, the film portrays a Polish-Jewish pianist’s survival from the war. Unlike other war films, it focuses on the pianist’s intense and desperate fight for existence instead of grand heroism, showing the weakness of life and the strength of the human spirit in the face of unimaginable horror. Its realistic portrayal of war and the strategic use of silence and pauses make it a timeless cinematic experience.
Dunkirk (2017)
The film focuses on the withdrawal of Allied soldiers from the beaches of Dunkirk in May and June 1940. The film captures the desperation of the trapped soldiers and the bravery of the civilian and military personnel who came to their rescue. The director artfully tells three stories at the same time and uses wide sweeping shots to make the audience feel as if they were at the scene.

A. The value of life.
B. The love of country.

(25-26高一上·宁夏永宁上游高级中学·期中)Clubs in high school are amazing because they give you opportunities to find your passions (热情), connect with others who have similar interests, and have fun! If your high school doesn’t have a club that you’re interested in, the best thing to do is start your own. Use your brain and think outside of the box!
Types of high school clubs
High school clubs usually fall into ten main categories (范畴): eight subject area clubs, hobby clubs, and charity clubs.
Subject area clubs are clubs that come from an interest in a subject area taught in school. There are eight subject area club categories: Art, Drama, Film, Science, Math, Literature, History, and Language.
Hobby clubs are clubs that come from an interest in a hobby that most likely wouldn’t be taught in high school (such as chess, video games, and animation).
Charity clubs are clubs that are connected with a specific charity with the goal of raising awareness, working for that charity, or raising money for that charity.
The category a certain club has been placed into is not important. I simply created these categories to organize this list. No one category is better than another. It’s best to create a club you’re passionate about no matter the category.

Passage 5
(25-26高一上·陕西汉中西乡县第一中学·期中)Sharon, Aged 22
The most important thing to keep in mind when going into high school is to be yourself. Besides, I don’t know what your middle school was like, but senior high school teachers will not care about how much homework you already have in one night. It’s best to just learn to deal with things and manage your time wisely so that you can achieve everything you need to achieve.
Frank, Aged 21
I think almost every kid feels both nervous and excited before his or her first day. You will probably love it. I did. You should join in some sports or activities that will make your high school experience more enjoyable. Good luck!
Eddie, Aged 20
When I started high school, I was really nervous too, especially since I had been homeschooled all through middle school and didn’t really know anyone. I figure the best advice would be to just relax. The first couple of days can be a little bit hard, but things will become easier before you know it.
David, Aged 19
I’m not going to lie. The first day is kind of frightening. But you’ll get used to it. Don’t be frightened of anyone; upperclassmen will pick on you more if you let them know you’re afraid. Just take it easy. Making some friends and staying with them will greatly help you get used to high school quickly. After the first week it’s really not bad at all. Don’t worry.
1.What can we infer from Sharon’s words about high school?
A. Teachers are quite strict.
B. Students should make good use of their time.

Passage 6
(25-26高一上·陕西渭南杜桥中学·期中)Researchers have created a backpack that has a computer and medicines in it that can help even untrained soldiers save the lives of wounded troops. Wounded soldiers have a better chance of survival if they get help soon after being hurt and are quickly taken to a hospital or clinic. But soldiers who do not have medical training may not know how to help their injured friends.
Doctors and engineers have developed what they call an “intelligent backpack”. It has a computer and electronic measuring devices. The backpack also has robotic instruments and medicines ready to give to injured troops.
About 16 doctors and engineers from the University of Pittsburgh, Carnegie Mellon University and several other places are working on the project. The U. S. Department of Defense has given money to the project.
Ron Poropatich leads the project. He is a retired army surgeon. He says the backpack will help soldiers care for those who are injured. The devices included in the backpack can monitor a person’s heart rate and blood pressure. The robotic instruments can even tell whether the soldier has a collapsed lung.
The intelligent backpack’s computer can compare information gathered about the injured soldier with thousands of similar cases, and quickly tell the best methods to use to save the soldier’s life.
Sometimes, it is not always possible to quickly remove the injured soldier from the battlefield. So, Dr. Poropatich says, the researchers hope to create a backpack that will have devices that can keep a soldier alive for a long time. Dr. Poropatich hopes the backpack and its instruments will be ready for testing animals in about three years.

Passage 2
(25-26高一上·宁夏回族自治区石嘴山市第一中·期中)Talk to yourself.
It may be obvious, but the best way to get better at a language is to speak it. Even if there is no one around to speak to, talk to yourself. Name things as you pass them — chair, television, cat, tree, school. Learn basic phrases like “it is cold today” or “it is sunny today” and use whichever is appropriate when you first look out of the window. This simple language learning tip will help this everyday vocabulary sink in and become second nature.
Talk to friends.
Even if they don’t speak the language, talk to the people you know in your new language. Warn them in advance that you are practicing your new knowledge and they will know what’s coming. Even a simple “good morning” or “see you later” in your new language will make those phrases more natural to you. Your friends may even start to pick up a few phrases as well.
Listen to music.
Listen to music in your new language. You’ll hear the language used in a real context and this will help you pick out the rhythm and the pronunciation even better. You will also come to further understand and better appreciate the culture behind the language.
Make mistakes.
The easiest language learning tip to try! Go ahead and speak and write! Don’t be afraid to make mistakes, because I guarantee you will! In fact, you will learn so much from your mistake as you will learn from your success. Never let the fear of making any mistakes hold you back. Without making any mistakes, how will you ever to be fluent or even comfortable with the language?
Find a language club.
When you are ready, try to find a language club in your area. Speaking with other people who have already gone through or are still going through the process of learning the language can be extremely helpful. They will give you lots of language learning tips and helpful advice.
1.If you want to keep everyday vocabulary in your mind, you’d better __________.

Passage 4
(25-26高一上·宁夏自治区石嘴山市平罗中学·期中)I never wanted to go to kindergarten (幼儿园), or leave home at all. I spent my first five years within the loving arms of my family, and when the time came for me to begin school at PS 116 in Brooklyn, I was sure that no one would keep me safe. But I was so lucky to meet Mrs.Heyman. Not only did she make me feel safe, she let me know that I was special.
Kindergarten was a fearful experience for me. I was a shy child who hated being separated from my mommy. Mrs.Heyman was a kind and patient teacher who tried to get me to stop crying each morning after I asked for one last kiss.
She would distract(转移……的注意力) me with pens and colorful paper and by playing beautiful music. It seemed the feeling of being an artist distracted me from my separation unhappiness, allowing me to attend class as the tears ran down my face. I also loved to sing and dance, and performed(表演) the Virginia reel—a kind of dance—when the principal(校长), Mr.Barton, visited our class.
Mr.Barton was an old, serious man who liked to walk behind children who behaved badly and shout, “Behave!” I was afraid of being shouted at by him, and practiced the dance with my classmates until Mrs.Heyman told us we were perfect.
Unluckily, I was so nervous before Mr.Barton’s visit that I wet myself. Mrs.Heyman calmly took me to the bathroom and told me to change into new clothes, drying my tears all the while, never showing judgment.
As I performed, Mr.Barton cheered. Pleased, I bravely stepped up to the front of the classroom and threw kisses in Mrs.Heyman’s direction.
I was lucky to have her again for the first grade, and learned to love school and learning. She was right about living my life without long-lasting attention from my mommy.
1.What was the author’s life like before he went to kindergarten?
A. Busy. B. Happy. C. Lonely. D. Unsafe.
2.How did Mrs.Heyman draw the author’s attention away from separation unhappiness?
A. By letting him do art.
B. By giving him a kiss.
C. By dancing with him.
D. By inviting his mother to school.
3.What can be learned about Mr.Barton?
A. He was always friendly.
B. He was strict with the students.
C. He was interested in performing.
D. He was full of praise for the author.

A. He got himself in a mess.

Passage 7
(25-26高一上·陕西普集高中·期中)Four Dream Holidays
★See a Penguin
This is a once-in-a-lifetime holiday in the snow and ice of the Antarctica. You can see animals and birds you only see on TV or in zoos. The trip starts in South Africa and finishes in Western Australia. You travel on a Russian ship, Kapitan Khlebnikov, and the holiday lasts for just under a month.
★Go on Safari
This holiday is a trip to see wild animals with a difference. You travel by helicopter (直升飞机) over parts of Kenya, listening to music as you fly, and then you sleep under the African stars in a comfortable bed. There’s another trip in a hot-air balloon, which gives you a second chance to see wild animals. The best moment is the Elephant Watch in Samburu, where your experienced guide can tell you all about these amazing animals.
★Live like Robinson Crusoe

Visit Uros families that have lived on these islands for centuries, and watch them build their homes, boats, and daily tools.

如第4小题,文章反复出现的单词是a backpack,intelligent backpack ,这与选项A中的in a Backpack相照应。
故选A。

A. try to find a language club in your area
B. talk to yourself and name things as you pass them
C. not to be afraid to make mistakes
D. listen to music in your new language
2.According to the passage, we know __________.

B. “talking to yourself” is the best way to learn a language
C. if someone doesn’t speak your new language, you should not practice with them
D. not all language clubs are helpful
3.You will master the usage of your new language if you __________ according to your material.
