Hi, I’m Jack. I really want to share an unforgettable experience with you.
Last month, our school organized a labor (劳动) practice activity in a nearby community. I joined in this meaningful activity with great excitement.
On the day of the activity, we arrived at the community early in the morning. Our task was to help clean up the public areas, plant some flowers and paint walls in several buildings. At first, I felt a bit nervous because I had never done such manual (体力的) work before. However, with the help of the teachers and community workers, I quickly learned how to use the tools properly and started to work.
The most difficult part for me was painting the walls. It required a lot of attention and patience. After a few hours, my arms were sore, and I felt too tired. But looking at the freshly painted wall, I couldn’t help feeling proud of myself.
Through this labor practice experience, I not only learned practical skills but also understood the importance of hard work. I would like to take part in more activities like this in the future.

To have a good conversation is a pleasure for most people. But not every conversation is good. Some conversations are one-sided. One person asks all the questions, and the other just gives one-word answers. A good conversation needs two or more people to keep it going.
Start a conversation
Ask something about the other person. “Tell me about yourself.” is a good start. Most people love a chance to talk about themselves. As the other person begins to talk, look for common ground. If you ask someone about his weekend, he could talk about what he did. Then you can share what you did.
Continue a conversation
When the other person is talking, listen carefully. It is not polite to cut in to add your experience. When they finish, ask some more questions. Don’t look around when they talk. That will make others uncomfortable. Besides, if you’re answering a question, don’t go on and on. Give an answer and stop. Also, avoid yes/no questions. They can stop a conversation. Instead, ask open-ended questions using what or why.
End a conversation
A conversation should end well, too. You could say, “I need to run now.”, showing that you have to leave. You may also give a reason. For example, “I really need to go. My class will start in 20 minutes.” Ending a conversation with a clear explanation makes both you and the other person feel good.
Now, go out and enjoy a good conversation!
32. How does the writer begin the text?
A. By telling a story. B. By showing facts.
C. By giving a saying. D. By listing numbers.
33. Which is helpful when having a conversation?
A. Give one-word answers.
B. Talk more about yourself.
C. Cut in to add your own experience.
D. Ask something about the other person.
34. Why should we avoid yes/no questions?
A. They are not polite. B. They are too open-ended.
C. They can lead to dead ends. D. They make others uncomfortable.
35. What is the writer trying to do in the text?
A. To describe different types of questions.
B. To teach how to have good conversations.
C. To discuss why people need communication.
D. To share personal experiences in conversations.
D
Perseverance (毅力) is very important in all areas of life. It means not giving up, even when facing challenges (挑战) along the way. The power of perseverance lies in its ability to turn dreams into reality and shape our future.
When we set goals (目标), challenges are unavoidable. Perseverance allows us to deal with these hurdles rather than giving up. It helps us to learn from failures and use these lessons to improve our plans. This cycle of trying and improving can help us make great achievements.
Moreover, perseverance helps us grow personally. By sticking to our goals through good and bad times, we develop strength and decision. These not only help us reach our present goals but also prepare us to face challenges bravely in the future.
The value of perseverance is also seen in group efforts (努力). Teams that show perseverance are more likely to go through hard times together and become stronger. Members will encourage each other to keep going. And of course they will realize goals that once seemed out of reach.
Perseverance is about more than just reaching our goals. It’s about shaping ourselves. It shows us that success depends not only on talent or luck but also on the continuous effort and hard work. Through perseverance, we discover our hidden strength and create a way for a more meaningful, successful and satisfying life.
36. What can perseverance do?
A. Avoid challenges. B. Give people luck.
C. Help complete tasks quickly. D. Realize dreams and shape our future.
37. Which word is close to the underlined word “hurdles”?
A. Games. B. Changes. C. Difficulties. D. Rules.
38. What’s the main idea of Paragraph 3?
A. Prepare to face challenges.
B. Present goals are easy to reach.
C. Perseverance leads to personal growth.
D. Strength and decision are important.
39. How does perseverance influence teams?
A. They give up easily.
B. They always get into hard times.
C. They stop encouraging each other.
D. They might achieve goals out of reach.
40. What is the proper title for the text?
A. The Advantages of Effort B. The Possibilities of Success
C. The Power of Perseverance D. The Importance of Goals
第二节 阅读表达(共5题;每题2分,满分10分)
阅读下面短文,简略回答问题。
What’s the fastest and most effective (有效的) way to learn? What’s the secret to remembering what you learn?
The “learning pyramid (金字塔)” suggests that students only remember 5% from lectures (讲座). They remember 10% of what they read from textbooks, but get nearly 90% of what they learn through teaching others.
The most common form of teaching others is peer tutoring (同伴辅导). It is a really fun and helpful way to learn. It means that we teach each other and help each other. We like peer tutoring because it makes learning more exciting and it makes us feel like we are part of a team.
To do peer tutoring, we can take turns being the teacher. The teacher explains a subject, and the student tries to understand it. If the student doesn’t get it right away, the teacher helps them understand it. It’s important to ask questions and give positive feedback (积极反馈) to each other. Then, they can both learn and have fun at the same time.
Peer tutoring is really good for our brains because it helps us remember things better. When we teach others, we have to think about it really hard to make sure we explain it right. And when others teach us, we need to listen carefully and try to understand what they’re saying. This helps us learn better.
So if you’re looking for a way to make learning more fun and effective, try peer tutoring! You’ll be surprised at how much you can learn from each other.
