Do teenagers in small villages do chores at home? How about the teenagers in big cities? Here is a survey. We asked 4,000 teenagers in China about this question. Half of them come from big cities like Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou. The others are from small villages. We made a diagram (图表) of the result of our survey. Let’s have a look at it. We found out that teenagers from small villages do more chores than those from big cities. Maybe it is because they live a harder life. Our advice to parents in big cities is that parents should give their children some chores to do. Doing chores teaches teenagers to take care of themselves.

What would you do if your best friend and you have different ideas? At first, I didn’t know what to do when I found that my best friend Karina disagreed with me on some things.
When we first met in a summer camp, we got along so well.
But then something happened at a picnic. “Did you hear about the shopping center news?” asked one of our friends Leo. “They want to cut down lots of trees to make room for a shopping center.”
“That’s terrible! We have to stop that.” I said.
“I disagree,” said Karina. “The shopping center would offer new jobs to people in need.”
“But animals would lose their homes!” I said. “I want people to have jobs, but it doesn’t mean cutting down trees.”
I wished Karina could agree with me about saving the trees, but she had her reasons for believing what she said. I was so angry that I didn’t talk to her for days.
Later, my mother knew it and said to me, “No two people are the same. You should respect (尊重) each other. And no matter what happens, the difference doesn’t mean losing a good friend.”
After listening to my mom’s words, I said sorry to Karina and we are still good friends now.

Men and women often do things in different ways. Scientists are curious to know the reasons. Through some research (调查) on the human brain, they’ve discovered some interesting facts.
Generally, women’s brains make them notice and remember details (细节) more easily. They are more likely to think back (回想) to the smell in a room, the sound of a song, or the little things they see during the day. For example, a woman might easily remember what her friend wore last week. However, men’s brains are more focused on the task at hand. A man will pay more attention to a single (单一的) job until it’s fully finished. He might work on fixing a car without being influenced by other things.
These different thinking ways also influence (影响) how they view their lives. Women usually see all sides of their lives as connected. If they have a bad day at work, it might influence their mood (情绪) at home. However, men usually see each part of their lives, like work, hobbies, and family, as separate pieces.
In a team, men and women contribute (贡献) differently. Women are more likely to share ideas and build good relationships among team members. Men, on the other hand, prefer to arrange tasks and make everyone work effectively (有效地).
Although men and women have their differences, both ways of thinking are important. They help us solve different problems and answer all kinds of questions in life.
23. What does the underlined word “curious” mean in Paragraph 1?
A. fun. B. happy. C. interested. D. glad.
24. A woman usually remembers ________.
A. details B. men’s brains C. the task D. a job
25. If a man is unhappy at work, when he is at home, he will ________.
A. think it over and over B. be unhappy C. forget it D. cry for a long time.
26. The writer wants to tell us that ________.
A. Men are better than women. B. Men can help women.
C. Women are better than men. D. They can help each other.

Show your love to the old. Our city has some old people’s homes. Without children around them, the old people there might feel lonely. Maybe they need your help. In fact, you can do a lot for them. For example, you can talk with them or play games with them. Listening to them carefully is also a good idea. Some old people can’t see clearly and they would like to have someone read to them. No matter what small things you do, you can make them feel loved.
Set up a reading group with your friends. Share your favorite books with them. Besides, you may read aloud to each other and talk about what you read. Either a book or an article can spark (激发) a lively discussion and your further thinking. The process often challenges more people to take action. The project is also a good way to welcome newcomers. My best friend
Lucy is my best friend. We have a lot in common. Both of us are 13 years old and have long straight black hair. We study as hard as each other and get excellent grades.
However, we also have some differences. I am more outgoing and more popular. Lucy is quieter and shorter than me, but works harder. I like singing and reading, and exercise every day. Lucy exercises three to four times a week.
Differences bring us closer. She is the best friend in my life.
