[2025江苏省泗阳县实验高级中学质量调研]
Many previous studies have indicated that frequent walking was associated with a lower risk of devel-
oping type 2 diabetes (糖尿病) in the general population, in a way that those with more time spent walking
per day were at a lower risk. But their findings haven't offered much guidance on the best habitual
walking speed needed to lower the risk of diabetes.
A new study's authors reviewed 10 previous studies conducted between 1999 and 2022, which assessed
(评估) the links between walking speed and the development of type 2 diabetes among adults from the U-
nited States, the United Kingdom and Japan. After a follow-up period of eight years on average, the re-
第1讲 描述运动的基本概念
searchers found compared with those who took easy or casual walking (less than 2 miles per hour), those
who walked at an average or normal pace (2 to 3 miles per hour) had a 15% lower risk of developing
type 2 diabetes. Walking at a “fairly quick” pace (3 to 4 miles per hour)meant a 24% lower risk than those
who easily or casually walked. And quick walking (more than 4 miles per hour) had the biggest benefit:a 3
9% reduction in risk.
The overall message is that walking is an important way to improve your health. It may be true that
walking faster is even better. But given the fact that most Americans do not get sufficient walking in the first
place, it is most important to encourage people to walk more as they're able to.
If you want to challenge yourself, however, using a fitness tracker—via a watch or a smartphone app—
can help you measure and maintain your walking pace, experts said. If you can't get a fitness tracker, an easy
alternative for tracking exercise intensity is the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's “talk

test”, which relies on understanding how physical activity affects heart rates and breathing. If, while
walking, you're able to talk in a labored voice but not to sing, your pace is probably quick.
1.How did the researchers get the new findings?
A.By studying former research. B.By interviewing volunteers.
C.By carrying out an experiment. D.By conducting an online survey.
2.Which type of walking is the best for reducing the risk of diabetes?
A.Easy walking. B.Quick walking.
C.Average walking. D.Casual walking.

A.Buying a fitness tracker. B.Avoiding eating too much.
C.Following the “talk test” rule. D.Walking as much as possible.

[2025河南南阳月考]
A new report connects eating eggs to an increased risk of heart disease. The results follow several earli-
er studies that found eating eggs was generally healthy. The study collects data from six other earlier studies.
It shows a 6 percent increased risk of heart disease when the number of eggs a person ate each day in-
creased by half an egg.
Norrina Allen, an associate professor at Northwestern University said that, in the United States, eggs
are generally one of the top sources of cholesterol (胆固醇) in a person's daily food. People with higher lev-
els of cholesterol in their food are at increased risk of the development of heart disease later in life. Howev-
er, Allen added that she would not say that eggs are completely unhealthy. “I'm not saying that people
第1讲 描述运动的基本概念
should take them completely out of their food,” she said. “I'm just suggesting that people eat them in a
proper amount.”
Some specialists believe the new study does not prove that eggs are causing heart disease.
“Cholesterol's role in the development of heart disease has been discussed for more than 30 years,” said
Dennis Bruemmer, an associate professor of medicine at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.
“This study does have clear shortcomings, including self-reports at a single time point,” he added.
Bruemmer said, “Eating eggs in moderation (适度) is probably acceptable from a nutritional standpoint.”
“Moderation,” he added, “is less than one egg a day, including eggs in foods such as bread.”
Holly Andersen, a doctor at the NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, agrees that the
study has “real shortcomings”. One problem Andersen has with the study is that a lot of the egg-eating
people in the study also appeared to be eating much meat and processed meat. “If you're taking a lot of
第1讲 描述运动的基本概念
processed meat, it doesn't matter how many eggs you're eating,” Andersen said.
Also, Andersen said, “The study can only show there is a relation between eating eggs and heart
disease. But it cannot prove eggs completely dominate the disease. It may just be that people eating a lot
of eggs are also taking a lot of bacon.”
5.What does Norrina Allen agree with?
A.Eggs are completely unhealthy.
B.Eggs contain the most cholesterol.
C.Eggs should be eaten in a right amount.
D.Eggs have no connection with heart disease.
6.What is Bruemmer's attitude towards the study?
A.Neutral. B.Negative. C.Indifferent. D.Hopeful.
第1讲 描述运动的基本概念
7.What can we learn from Holly Andersen's words?
A.Eggs and meat cannot be eaten together. B.Processed meat may cause heart disease.
C.Processed meat should be avoided. D.The study is supported by physical evidence.
8.What's the best title for the text?
A.Do Eggs Cause Heart Disease? B.Are Eggs the Top Source of Cholesterol?
C.What's the Proper Amount of Eggs Eaten? D.Is Cholesterol to Blame for Heart Disease?
