It was awarded the status be- cause it meets two 1 (criterion) required by the list. It is one of the most “complete” natural areas in 2 world and has incredible biodiversity. Shennongjia 3 (range) from about 400 metres to over 3,000 metres above sea level, which gives a great variation in climate, 4 (allow) varieties of species to live. Some of them, 5 (regard) as living fossils, have survived millions of years. Until now, over 3,000 plant species 6 (find) in Shennongjia, which represents over ten per cent of China's total floral richness. More than 600 vertebrate species and around 4,300 insect species are living there. Scientists can observe the 7 (ecology) and biological processes in real time. Scientists make great efforts 8 (look) after the various species. However, the local people are the 第1讲 描述运动的基本概念 most impressive for taking things from nature without damage and they live 9 harmony with nature. Some national parks are marine parks. One good example of this is the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park in Australia. 1 (stretch) over 2,300 kilometers, the Great Bar- rier Reef is considered one of the natural wonders of the world. It is the largest structure in the world made by living creatures except for humans. A wide variety of tropical wildlife also 2 (make) the reef its habitat. Since the Great Barrier Reef is just below the surface of the water, it is an excellent place 3 (see) nature, and millions of people travel there every year. The park was created in 1975 to protect the reef 4 overdevelopment and overfishing. Unfortunately, the 5 (big) danger to the Great Barrier Reef is something park 6 (manage) can- not stop—global warming. Rising ocean temperatures are causing some corals to die 7 the colourful coral reefs to turn grey. Hundreds of years ago, people could not imagine that there would ever be a time 8 forests would be cut down, oceans would become 9 (pollute), and wildlife would face extinction. Facing the problems of environment pollution and overdevelopment, some national parks have been set aside to protect both natural features and wildlife. 10 conservation of natural areas has attracted much media attention, and now more and more people are supporting the idea of eco-friendly development. 1.____________    2.__________    3.________    4._________    5.____________ 6._______________    7.________    8.______    9._____________    10.________ The      polluted      when      and      management      biggest      from      to see      makes      Stretching protect....from... 故填from。 5. 空前的some corals to die和空后的the colourful coral reefs to turn grey是并列关系,故填and。 8. 阅读理解   [2026广东广州六中期中] Endangered polar bears are breeding with grizzly bears(灰熊), creating “pizzly” bears, which is being driven by climate change, scientists say. As the world warms and Arctic sea ice thins, starving polar bears are being forced ever further south, where they meet grizzlies, whose ranges are expanding northwards. And with that growing contact between the two come increasing hybrids(杂交种). With characteristics that could give the hybrids an advantage in warming northern habitats, some scien- tists guess that they could be here to stay. “Usually, hybrids aren't better suited to their environments than their parents, but these hybrids are able to search for a broader range of food sources,” Larisa DeSantis, an associate professor of biological sciences at Vanderbilt University, told Live Science. The rise of “pizzly” bears appears with polar bears' decline: their numbers are estimated to decrease by more than 30% in the next 30 years. This sudden fall is linked partly to “pizzly” bears taking up polar bears' ranges, where they outcompete them, but also to polar bears' highly specialized diets. “Polar bears mainly consumed soft foods even during the Medieval Warm Period, a previous period of rapid warming,” DeSantis said, referring to fat meals such as seals. “Although all of these starving polar bears are trying to find alternative food sources, like seabird eggs, it could be _______________ for their sur- vival.” Actually, the calories they gain from these sources do not balance out those they burn from search- ing for them. This could result in a habitat ready for the hybrids to move in and take over, leading to a loss in biodiversity if polar bears are replaced. “We're having massive impacts with climate change on species,” DeSantis said. “The polar bear is telling us how bad things are. In some sense, ‘pizzly’ bears could be a sad but necessary compromise given current warming trends.” a tipping point 1.Why do polar bears move further south? A.To create hybrids. B.To expand territory. C.To relieve hunger. D.To contact grizzlies. 2.What makes “pizzly” bears adapt to natural surroundings better than their parents? A.Broader habitats. B.More food options. C.Climate preference. D.Their improved breeding ability. 3.What does the underlined phrase “a tipping point” in paragraph 5 refer to? A.A rare chance. B.A critical stage. C.A positive factor. D.A constant change. 4.What's the main idea of the text? A.Polar bears are changing diets for climate change. B.Polar bears have already adjusted to climate change. C.“Pizzly” bears are on the rise because of global warming. D.“Pizzly” bears have replaced polar bears for global warming. 根据画线短语的上文“Although all of these starving polar bears are trying to find al- ternative food sources, like seabird eggs”可知,饥饿的北极熊寻找其他食物来源,这可能是它们的生存转 折点,因此推测a tipping point的意思是“转折点”,与B项“A critical stage.” 原文第五段明确提到“leading to a loss in biodiversity if polar bears are replaced”,其中“if”表明“北极熊被取代”是假设条件,而非已经发生的事实;而 D项用 “have re- placed(已经取代)”表示完成,将假设的情况等同于现实,完全违背原文逻辑,故排除。 七选五   [2026吉林长春十一高中第一学程考试] More than 40 percent of Antarctica's ice shelves have decreased in the past 25 years, potentially accel- erating the sea level rise by allowing more land ice to flow into the ocean. 1 They play a critical role in slowing the flow of ice on land into the ocean by essentially acting as a wall and surround nearly the entire coastline of Antarctica. When ice shelves thin or retreat, ice on land can flow into the ocean more quickly and accelerate the sea level rise. Healthy ice shelves naturally retreat and grow over time. An ice shelf is continuously flowing and ad- vancing but will also lose mass through melting or calving, which is when its front breaks off into the ocean. 2 But the large portion of steadily shrinking ice shelves shows that this natural cycle is off. In West Antarctica, the Getz Ice Shelf experienced some of the biggest ice losses, shedding 1.9 trillion tons of ice over the study period. Most ice shelves in East Antarctica however, increased in volume or stayed the same. 3 The region is protected by a band of cold water at the coast, which helps keep nearby warm water at bay. Even so, the study still showed pockets of shrinking ice shelves, and researchers are still inves- tigating the reasons. 4 The current ice shelf data set is not long enough for researchers to definitively make climate change connection yet, but it would be a remarkable coincidence if the natural variability in ice shelves were just that much larger. 5 But we don't need to hit it before seeing an effect on the planet. A.Then it can gain ice from the land and grow again. B.Ice shelves are massive floating sections of ice extending from glaciers on land. C.The east is not as exposed to the warm water like the other side of the continent. D.The thinning of the ice shelves has shown up in the surrounding environment, too. E.Ice shelves, not just the big ones, are steadily losing mass over time with no sign of recovery. F.One theory is that the warmer water on the western side could be slowly coming in the region. G.Additionally, climate models predict ice shelves will steadily shrink in a warming world as observed, eventually hitting a tipping point for ice sheet collapse. 1.______ 2.______ 3.______ 4.______ 5.______ G      F      C      A      B 下文“They play a critical role in slowing the flow of ice on land into the ocean...accelerate the sea level rise.” 上文“Healthy ice shelves naturally retreat and grow over time.” A项中“gain ice from the land and grow again”和前文“naturally retreat and grow over time”相呼应,故选A。 3.上文“Most ice shelves in East Antarctica however, increased in volume or stayed the same.”以及下文 “The region is protected by a band of cold water at the coast, which helps keep nearby warm water at bay.” 上文“Even so, the study still showed pockets of shrinking ice shelves, and researchers are still investigat- ing the reasons.” 5.上文“The current ice shelf data set is not long enough...were just that much larger.” It was a cool autumn morning when my friends and I decided to have an adventure that would push the boundaries of our comfort zones. We had heard of an abandoned(废弃的) town within the beautiful moun- tains of Colorado, in which there was a huge cave. The attraction of the unknown was too strong to resist, so we packed our equipment with a mix of excitement and fear. Our journey began with a scenic drive along the winding mountain roads. The landscape was breathtak- ing, with the golden color of fall painting the trees and the cool air filling our lungs. However, as we went deeper into the wilderness, the roads became less-traveled, and we had to rely on the GPS signal to guide us 第1讲 描述运动的基本概念 to our destination. After hours of driving, we reached the end of the road and continued on a dirt trail that seemed to dis- appear into the forest. The trees closed in around us, casting shadows as the sun dipped lower in the sky. It was then that we encountered the first of many difficulties: a fallen tree blocking our path. With no other op- tion, we had to begin the hard task of clearing the way, which took us half an hour. As night fell, we finally arrived at the town. The buildings were old;their windows were broken;the air was thick with an unsettling silence. We set up camp on the edge of the town, with the flames of our camp- fire being the only source of light in the vast darkness. The next morning, we explored the town through the empty streets. Finally, we discovered the huge cave. Its entrance was very large, surrounded by substantial weeds. The terrible stories we had heard came rushing back within those depths. Our hearts raced with the fright we had felt. Despite the fear, we began to 第1讲 描述运动的基本概念 investigate the huge cave. With flashlights(手电筒) in hand, we went into the cave. We thought we were lost. The air grew colder, and the walls seemed to close in around us. We walked through tunnels that branched off in multiple directions, each one more terrifying than the last. It was then that we heard a faint whisper that seemed to come from everywhere. Panic set in, and we hurried back the way we had come. However, in a hurry, we took a wrong turn. The exit disap- peared, replaced by endless dark passages. Our flashlights' batteries dying, the darkness hit us. We thought we were lost. However, just then a faint light appeared in the distance. We followed it, our hope growing with each step. The light led us to an old wooden ladder, which we climbed with desperate urgency. We had found our way out, but the experience had left us shaken. We returned to our camp finally. The memories of the abandoned town and the depths of the cave would stay with us forever. We faced our fears and became stronger.
