Dear Thomas,
Hearing that your family will travel to Macheng during the National Day holiday, I’m more than delighted to recommend two scenic spots for you.
First and foremost, Guifeng Mountain, a famous 5A scenic spot in Macheng, is well worth visiting. It boasts amazing mountain scenery and unique natural landscapes, allowing you to enjoy fresh air and breathtaking views. Besides, Xiaogan Township Cultural Park is a perfect choice. It combines traditional architecture with local culture, where you can deeply experience Macheng’s long history and local customs.
I firmly believe you will have an unforgettable journey here. Wish your family a pleasant and wonderful trip!
Yours sincerely, Li Hua
One possible version
I sang Lullaby's melody, voice shaky at first but growing stronger. Cold sweat trickled down my back at the sight of the broken violin string. Panic gradually faded as I poured my feelings into singing. My mind focused solely on the soft tune, blocking out all worries. Though my violin missed its E-string, I refused to give in to embarrassment. Every note carried my determination. When my singing came to an end, the whole audience erupted into warm applause. Overwhelmed by emotion, I could hardly hold back my tears. Standing on the stage, I bowed slowly, heart filled with complicated feelings.
Mia rushed to the stage, holding an extra violin string for emergency. Just like what she had done last week, she set about changing the broken string in no time. Her fingers moved quickly and skillfully. Meanwhile, she gave me a comforting look and mouthed “You got this” to cheer me up. Her encouraging eyes calmed my restless heart instantly. With the violin repaired, I completed the rest performance smoothly. After I finished, Mom stood up and waved, her sunflowers shining brightly, making all my efforts worthwhile. Not until that moment did I realize that family’s belief and a friend’s timely help are our precious strength to overcome unexpected difficulties.

Text 4
W: How is your broken leg after the operation?
M: Oh, Dr. Smith, it’s recovering well. I couldn’t walk on it two weeks ago, but yesterday I managed to get to the school and go back. The medicine you gave me really works.
W: That’s not bad. It’s only a month since the accident on the field.
Text 5

W: City Pizzas, can I help you?
M: Hello, my name’s Henry Cox. I’m calling you because you delivered our pizza five minutes ago, but you haven’t sent the number I ordered.
W: Oh, that’s surprising. Can you give me your order number please?
M: Yes, it’s 1049.
W: Well, let me check our records. I’ve got down that you wanted 13 pizzas. Just…
M: Did you say 13? I ordered 30 not 13. No wonder we haven’t got enough.
W: I’m very sorry about that. So you’re missing 17 pizzas, aren’t you?
M: That’s right.
W: How about sending you all 30 this time? And they will all be hot.
M: That would be great. How to deal with the 13 ones we have here? Shall we give them back?
W: No, you keep them and we won’t charge you for them. It’s obviously our mistake.
M: Thank you very much.
W: Thank you for your understanding, Mr Cox. We apologize for the mistake again. Bye.
Text 9
M: Can I ask you a favor?
W: What is it, Sam?
M: Well, I was just wondering if you could help me with my history lessons because I’ve been absent for three days.
W: Sure, why were you absent for so long?
M: I was pretty sick after my trip to London, so the doctor suggested that I should not attend classes for a couple of days in order to rest. And my father helped me ask for sick leave. I decided to ask for your help because you always get good grades in history.
W: I’m sorry to hear that you were sick, Sam. Don’t worry, I’ll help you out. Where should we start? What is the last topic you have in your notes?
M: Let me see. I do recall that the last notes I have are about the wars between Athens and Sparta. I missed pretty much everything that came after that period in history.
W: OK, there is a lot of information to cover then.
M: So what time is convenient for you? Then I’ll come to your home, say 6 p.m.?
W: We’d better start an hour later because we usually have dinner at that time.
M: Okay.
Text 10
M: Good afternoon! I would like to tell you about Madame Tussauds Museum before taking you around. First, let me give you some information about the tickets. Well, our most popular ticket is £39. With that, you can also visit three more London’s most popular top attractions. The standard price that you have to pay when visiting four attractions is £55. Madame Tussauds has a long history. It was started by a lady who worked for the French king. She was an art teacher. Here you can see life-sized figures of the most famous people in the world, like David Beckham, the footballer, or the Queen of England. Madame Tussauds is not only in London. The second Madame Tussauds opened in Amsterdam in 1992, and now there are museums in Las Vegas, Hollywood, New York. In 2008, the fourth American Madame Tussauds opened in Washington. After you visit, you can buy some gifts from the museum shop, and if anybody is hungry, there is a cafe and some great eating places in Baker Street. The museum is open seven days a week and you can see the times in the guidebook of the museum, which I will give you in a minute.

根据第一段中“He didn’t even go to school until the age of 14. Instead, his parents educated him at home.(他直到14岁才上学。在此之前,他的父母在家里教育他。)”可知,Ernst Mach的早期教育由他的父母决定。
25. 细节理解题。根据第三段中“Mach’s insistence on clarity and rigorous testing of ideas helped shape Einstein’s thinking. Though Mach was doubtful about some of Einstein’s later conclusions, such as E=mc², his doubt drove Einstein to prove his ideas further. He pushed the young Einstein to achieve excellence.(Mach坚持清晰和严格检验理论的做法帮助塑造了Einstein的思维。虽然Mach对Einstein后来的某些结论(如E=mc²)持怀疑态度,但他的质疑促使Einstein进一步证明他的想法。他推动年轻的Einstein追求卓越。)”可知,Ernst Mach通过挑战和敦促Einstein的方式影响了他,使Einstein不断追求卓越。
26. 推理判断题。根据第四段“While Mach is credited with many theories of his own, including the aircraft velocity(速度)measurement that bears his name, “Mach 1. Mach 2, etc.”, his mentorship of Einstein is perhaps his greatest achievement.(虽然Mach因其许多理论(包括以他名字命名的飞机速度测量方法“Mach 1. Mach 2”等)而受到赞誉,但他对 Einstein的指导或许是他最大的成就。)”可知,Ernst Mach在科学界具有很高的专业水平并深远影响了Einstein。
27. 主旨大意题。A选项“Suffering is the best teacher.” B选项“Great minds think alike.” C选项“Two heads are better than one.” D选项“A great teacher produces a brilliant student.”
根据第二段中的 more than 20 bird species on four continents that give off virtually identical “whining” calls when they spot brood parasites such as cuckoos(来自四大洲的20多种鸟类在发现杜鹃等巢寄生物时,都会发出几乎一致的“呜咽声”)和 it’s rounding up individuals to come together against this common enemy(其作用是召集同伴,共同对抗敌人)以及第三段中的 Brood parasites lay eggs in other birds’ nests, tricking the host parents into raising their chicks for them(巢寄生物会将蛋产在其他鸟类的巢中,欺骗宿主为自己抚养雏鸟)可知,鸟类发出“呜咽声”的主要目的是保护自己的巢穴。
The calls are at a frequency too high for eagles to detect well(这种鸣叫的声频极高,鹰难以察觉)可知,后半句是说:当它们来袭的消息在森林中快速传递时,捕食者仍毫无察觉,C项Unaware(未察觉的)符合语境。
Among other things, it may help birds enhance food intake(除此之外,它还可能有助于鸟类觅食)和 when seabirds with good vision, such as albatrosses, hunt with seabirds with strong senses of smell, such as petrels, they both have far greater success at catching small shellfish(当信天翁等视力敏锐的海鸟与海燕等嗅觉灵敏的海鸟协同捕猎时,双方捕获小型贝类生物的成功率都会大幅提升)可知,A项(它们试图提高觅食效率)准确概括了这一合作理由。
31. 推断。根据最后一段中 Greene 所说的 information is constantly traded between different kinds of animals, which is a fundamental ecological phenomenon(信息在不同种类的动物之间不断交换,这是一种基本的生态现象)和It can be life-saving(这种交流甚至可能会救命)可知,Greene的话强调了跨物种交流的重要性,D项准确地概括了Greene的意思。
根据第二段“While human eyes might overlook tiny changes, AI can study tens of thousands of high-definition photos to find the tiniest breaks”...“If risks are found, we step in immediately with targeted techniques before the damage becomes irreplaceable...”(虽然人类肉眼可能会忽略微小的变化,但是人工智能可以研究数万张高清照片,找到最细微的开裂……
根据第三段“Then, scientists and art historians stepped in to select the most historically accurate plan.(随后,科学家和艺术史学家介入,选出最具历史准确性的方案)”可知,在“飞天丝带”修复过程中,人类的作用是选出最合适的修复方案。
根据第一段“However, these national treasures face the constant threat of natural damage. Today, a new “guardian” has arrived to protect them: Artificial Intelligence (AI). (然而,这些国宝一直面临自然损坏的威胁。如今,一位新的“守护者”来保护它们:人工智能(AI))”及全文内容可知,文章核心围绕人工智能保护敦煌壁画的全新方法展开,介绍了其工作流程与人机合作模式,也就是介绍一种保护古代艺术的新方法。

Ernst Mach was a weak child, born in Moravia(now Czechia)in 1838. He didn’t even go to school until the age of 14. Instead, his parents educated him at home. Like many genius children, his teachers criticized him, calling him “unteachable, absolutely talentless.” Yet young Mach excelled at university in Vienna. He studied mathematics, physics and philosophy. He was also boundlessly curious. He conducted all kinds of experiments, believing that theories must be tried, tested, and proven in facts, but first formulated in the mind. He brought this rigorous(严密的)approach to his studies, believing that true science is based on what actually happens and can be observed.
In addition to his work in the sciences, Mach was also a well-rounded student, with interests in philosophy and even sports. He was an excellent boxer and fencer, which reflected the wide range of his abilities and interests.
As a teacher, Mach was serious and demanding. That was the model of pedagogy (教学)of his time, and Mach followed this standard: tight collar, buttoned-down tie, waistcoat and jacket, and serious eyes behind wire-framed glasses. He expected exactness from his students. Among those he influenced was the young Albert Einstein. Mach’s insistence on clarity and rigorous testing of ideas helped shape Einstein’s thinking. Though Mach was doubtful about some of Einstein’s later conclusions, such as E=mc2, his doubt drove Einstein to prove his ideas further. He pushed the young Einstein to achieve excellence.
While Mach is credited with many theories of his own, including the aircraft velocity(速度)measurement that bears his name, “Mach 1. Mach 2, etc.”, his mentorship of Einstein is perhaps his greatest achievement. The best teachers in our lives also challenge us and see us as not yet complete but full of potential. They shine a light on the path that gets us to a successful reality. And through us, they live on.
24. What can we know about Ernst Mach from paragraph 1?
A. He attended university at the age of 14.
B. He was considered a genius by his teachers.
C. His early education was coached by his parents.
D. His physical disability discouraged his studying.
25. How did Ernst Mach impact Albert Einstein?
A. He challenged Einstein to excel.
B. He forced Einstein to give in.
C. He introduced new theories to Einstein.
D. He inspired Einstein to focus on physics.
26. Which can best describe Ernst Mach?
A. Cautious and ambitious. B. Professional and influential.
C. Diligent and dependent. D. Incredible and accessible.
27. Which of the following can best describe the text?
A. Suffering is the best teacher. B. Great minds think alike.
C. Two heads are better than one. D. A great teacher produces a brilliant student.
C
When danger approaches, many creatures seem to follow the ancient saying that the enemy of my enemy is my friend. Researchers have recently been finding complex ways that animals communicate with other species in such situations.
For example, a recent study in Nature Ecology & Evolution documented more than 20 bird species on four continents that give off virtually identical “whining” calls when they spot brood parasites (巢寄生物) such as cuckoos. That call is essentially “the word for ‘cuckoo,’ ” says study co-lead author James Kennerley, a wildlife biologist at Cornell University. “And it’s rounding up individuals to come together against this common enemy.”
Brood parasites lay eggs in other birds’ nests, tricking the host parents into raising their chicks for them. At a field site in Australia, Kennerley has witnessed individuals from a dozen or more species attack a cuckoo in response to a chorus of whining calls. These attacks can be so violent that Kennerley and his coworkers need to cage the cuckoo used in their experiments to protect it.
Many birds also share a common vocabulary for predators (捕食者). Research by wildlife ecologist Erick Greene, a professor at the University of Montana, and others shows that various songbirds produce recognizable “seet” calls to alert others to an eagle in flight. The calls are at a frequency too high for eagles to detect well, so the predators remain oblivious as information about their arrival shoots through the forest. If the eagle stops on a branch, songbirds switch to “mobbing” calls, a distinct vocalization that, as Greene puts it, “draws in the other birds to drive that eagle off.”
Cooperative defense is not the only reason for cross-species communication. Among other things, it may help birds enhance food intake. A recent study found that when seabirds with good vision, such as albatrosses, hunt with seabirds with strong senses of smell, such as petrels, they both have far greater success at catching small shellfish.
Clearly, “information is constantly traded between different kinds of animals, which is a fundamental ecological phenomenon,” Greene says. “It can be life-saving.”
28. What is the main purpose of birds’ “whining” calls?
A. To attract female mates. B. To defend their own nests.
C. To indicate food sources. D. To signal their newborns.
29. What does the underlined word “oblivious” in paragraph 4 probably mean?
A. Unbearable. B. Unconcerned.
C. Unaware. D. Uncertain.
30. Why do seabirds like albatrosses and petrels cooperate?
A. They try to improve feeding efficiency.
B. They defend against common predators.
C. They need to establish a shared territory.
D. They learn hunting skills from each other.
31. What do Greene’s words in the last paragraph stress?
A. The diversity of ecological phenomena.
B. The rareness of multispecies cooperation.
C. The complexity of cross-species interactions.
D. The significance of interspecies communication.

Deep within the Mogao Caves in Dunhuang, wonderful ancient murals (壁画) have whispered stories of faith for centuries. However, these national treasures face the constant threat of natural damage. Today, a new “guardian” has arrived to protect them: Artificial Intelligence (AI). Wang Wanfu, a senior researcher at the Dunhuang Academy, is leading this great change. To him, AI is a bridge connecting ancient art with modern science.
The protection begins with a close watch on the environment. Wang’s team uses AI to monitor temperature and humidity (湿度). While human eyes might overlook tiny changes, AI can study tens of thousands of high-definition photos to find the tiniest breaks. “The key is determining whether the worsening is active,” Wang explains. “If risks are found, we step in immediately with targeted techniques before the damage becomes irreplaceable, ensuring the best possible outcome for these precious relics (遗迹).”
The power of AI was evident during the repair of a “flying ribbon” from a Dunhuang painting. By studying various artistic styles across different dynasties, AI’s massive computing ability processed thousands of patterns and generated several repair options for the team. This task would have taken humans months or even years to complete. Then, scientists and art historians stepped in to select the most historically accurate plan. This human-machine partnership ensures that technology respects history. “Technology brings relics to life, but we must ensure they are passed down in their original forms,” says Wang.
Looking ahead, Wang highlights that conservation is becoming a cross-subject field, drawing on areas from microbiology to computer science. He is calling for more young talents to join the mission. “Whatever your background, if you’re passionate about heritage, there’s a place for you here,” he says. With AI’s assistance, Wang is confident that the glory of Dunhuang will continue to inspire the world, proving that the past can indeed have a bright future.
32. What is Wang Wanfu’s view of AI?
A. It replaces human staff. B. It restores cave structures.
C. It combines art and science. D. It has massive computing ability.
33. How does AI help in monitoring the murals?
A. By discovering potential risks. B. By controlling temperature.
C. By decreasing natural damage. D. By partly adjusting humidity levels.
34. What was the role of humans in the “flying ribbon” repair?
A. Providing repair options. B. Developing artistic styles.
C. Processing massive patterns. D. Choosing the best repair plan.
35. What is the main purpose of the text?
A. To compare human and AI abilities in art repair.
B. To explain the historical value of Dunhuang murals.
C. To introduce a new method of preserving ancient art.
D. To showcase the advantage of AI over human experts.

As an enthusiastic reader, I’ve always believed that the key to understanding the world lies in the pages of a book. 36 They introduce us to characters who feel as real as the people around us. This connection between readers and the text is what makes literature so powerful, and it’s why I value my personal library. It’s a collection that reflects my journey through the world of words.
My library is not vast, but each book is carefully chosen. I have a mix of types in my collection, ranging from classic literature to contemporary fiction(当代小说). 37 Each type offers a different perspective, a new way of looking at life. While some books challenge my thinking, others provide comfort during difficult times. It is important to have a balance. A well-organized library is like a well-balanced diet for the mind.
Among my favourites are the works of Jane Austen and George Orwell. Austen’s sharp observations on society and relationships are timeless. Her characters are imperfect yet charming. Orwell, on the other hand, offers a stark (冷峻的) view of the world. 38 Both authors, though different in style, have taught me invaluable lessons about humanity.
39 Biographies (传记) and life stories offer insights into the lives of extraordinary individuals. They remind us that greatness comes in many forms. Reading about the struggles and successes of others can be incredibly inspiring. It’s a reminder that we all have the potential to make a difference. These stories encourage me to reflect on my own life and what I wish to leave behind.
My library is a reflection of who I am. It’s a sign of my love of learning and my desire to understand the world. Each book is a stepping stone on my journey of discovery. They are companions in loneliness and guides in times of uncertainty. 40
A. I also enjoy non-fiction.
B. I believe in the power of variety.
C. My library goes beyond a collection of books.
D. His stories are a warning and a call to action.
E. Through them, I continue to explore, to grow, and to dream.
F. The stories we read shape our world view and broaden our minds.
G. Historical fiction, in particular, holds a special place in my heart.

The Broken Violin String
The stage lights burned my eyes as I gripped the violin, my fingers trembling like autumn leaves. It was the school’s annual talent show, and I’d practiced the violin piece Lullaby for three months — until my fingertips had calluses(茧子)and the melody(旋律)played in my dreams. My mom sat in the front row, holding the bouquet of sunflowers she’d promised to give me if I didn’t freeze up.
I took a deep breath and began. The first notes flowed soft, like raindrops on a window, and I started to relax. For a moment, I forgot about the audience, forgot about the pressure to be perfect. But halfway through the chorus, a sharp snap cut through the music. My E string (琴弦) had broken.
Time stopped. The audience went quiet — so quiet I could hear my own heartbeat thudding in my ears. I stared at the broken string, my mind blank. All those hours of practice, all the times I’d told myself I could do this…it felt like it was all falling apart. I wanted to run off stage, to hide behind the curtains where no one could see me. My mom leaned forward in her seat, her smile gone, her eyes wide with worry.
I sat there, frozen, for what felt like forever. The violin felt heavy in my hands, like a weight I couldn’t hold anymore. Then, from the back of the auditorium(礼堂), someone clapped — a slow, gentle clap. Then another. Soon, the whole room was clapping, soft at first, then louder, like a wave rolling toward me. I looked up, and saw Mia, the girl who’d helped me fix my violin last week, grinning and nodding. “You got this!” she mouthed.
My hands stopped shaking. I set the violin down, stood up, and walked to the edge of the stage. The clapping died down, and everyone waited, their eyes on me. I took a deep breath, opened my mouth.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
I sang Lullaby’s melody, voice shaky at first but growing stronger.
Mia rushed to the stage, holding an extra violin string for emergency.
