People who live in warm cities often prefer to keep their windows open during the summer so that fresh air can come in. However, open windows also allow noise to enter the room, which can make it difficult to rest, study, or sleep. To deal with this everyday problem, researchers at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore have developed a device.
The research team, led by Bhan Lam, attached 24 small speakers to a window grille (铁栅栏) in an 8-by-3 arrangement. A sensor was placed outside the window to detect incoming sounds. After receiving the sound signal, the system made the speakers produce sound waves that could weaken part of the unwanted noise before it spread further into the room.
In indoor experiments, the team played recorded road, train, and aircraft noise from a loudspeaker placed 2 meters away from the window. In these controlled conditions, the system was able to reduce the noise level by up to 10 decibels (分贝) in some cases. This did not mean the noise disappeared completely, but it became clearly less noticeable. For people living near busy roads, even this level of reduction could make a room feel more comfortable.
The device worked best on low-frequency transport noise, especially in the 300 to 1,000 hertz range. These sounds included much of the background noise produced by cars, buses, and trains. Speech and other sharp sounds were more likely to slip through, with those sounds often carrying higher-frequency details that this design struggled to cancel. “This idea is similar to noise-cancelling headphones, which usually work best against steady background sounds such as the hum of an engine,” said Lam.
The speakers used in the experiments were quite small, so they could not handle very deep low-frequency noise well. Larger speakers might improve performance, but they could also block more sunlight and reduce the view from the window. In the future, the researchers hope to test the device in real homes and improve its design for everyday use.
24.What can the device be used to do?
A.Test the function of indoor speakers. B.Prevent sounds from entering rooms.
C.Reduce noise through open windows. D.Monitor the situation of urban noise.
25.What aspect of the device is discussed in paragraph 2?
A.Its working principle. B.Its market value. C.Its test data. D.Its appearance design.
26.Why was the device less effective at blocking speech?
A.The sensor could not detect speech. B.Speech contained high-frequency details.
C.Speech had much background noise. D.The window grille blocked the signal.
27.What can be inferred about the device from the last paragraph?
A.It has performed well. B.It has been tested in real homes.
C.It is ready for practical use. D.It needs improvement.

Enric Sala is a former university professor, and left the academic field to become a full-time marine explorer and researcher. In 2008, he founded Pristine Seas, a project that combines exploration, research, public policy and media to inspire the creation of ocean protection areas. It aims to protect at least 30% of the ocean by 2030 for the benefit of nature and humanity. Less than 8% is currently protected.
To date, the project has helped to create 29 of the largest ocean reserves on the planet, covering an area of over 6.9 million square kilometers, which is twice the size of India. The achievements are the result of Enric’s 36 trips across the globe, from the Southern Line Islands to Greenland and Alaska.
The ongoing ocean protection efforts reflect Enric’s lifelong passion. He says he admires a famous French filmmaker and undersea explorer. Growing up in Catalonia in the 1970s, he would sit in front of the TV watching his hero every Sunday. He was fascinated by the amazing places, the brave underwater explorers and the wonderful creatures. That was all he wanted to do in his life.
Enric writes that in the last century alone, humans have removed over 90% of the ocean’s large fish, yet less than 8% of the ocean is under protection. It is possible to make the ocean continuously beneficial to people and the planet. All humans must do is to rewild the sea. In his book, The Nature of Nature: Why We Need the Wild, published in 2020, Enric writes that preserving the planet’s wild places, on land and in the ocean, is essential for our continued existence and financial well-being. The process of rewilding, or recovering and protecting natural processes, allows nature to do the hard work for us.
Mentioning the successes of wildlife recovery in Yellowstone National Park, Mozambique National Parks, and the Southern Line Islands, Enric adds that our natural world can be a lasting and strong engine of regeneration, and that we just need to give it some space.
28.What can we learn about the Pristine Seas project’s achievements?
A.It protected over 90% of large fish. B.It completed 36 trips to Africa safely.
C.It doubled the size of wild habitats. D.It helped create 29 ocean reserves.
29.What inspired Enric Sala’s career choice as a child?
A.A book by a French filmmaker. B.A film about undersea creatures.
C.A TV hero exploring the ocean. D.A trip to the Southern Line Islands.
30.Why is rewilding the ocean important according to Enric?
A.It matters to human survival and economy.
B.It draws more people to protect marine life.
C.It supports further ocean exploration work.
D.It enlarges the area of current ocean reserves.
31.What does Enric mainly stress in the last paragraph?
A.Wildlife recovery can’t be completely achieved.
B.We should learn from past protection projects.
C.Nature can renew itself if given enough space.
D.Many national parks have achieved great success.

In a world that values speed, “Slow Reading” is becoming increasingly popular. Equipped with all kinds of digital devices, most of us get used to skimming online texts: we hunt for key words rapidly yet ignore the hidden meanings behind lines. Psychologists remind us that such reading habit damages our cognitive (认知的) patience, which refers to our capacity to analyze complicated thoughts for a long time.
According to Dr. Wolf, our brains are not born to read. Unlike speech, reading is a skill the brain must learn. Digital reading encourages a “Fast-shaped” pattern, where we look for the main points and skip the rest.
A recent study compared two groups of students. One group read a long story on an e-reader, while the second group read the same story in a printed book. The result was telling: those who read the physical book had a much better understanding of the plot’s timeline and emotional depth. It appears that the physical act of turning pages serves as a support for the memory.
However, the modern environment is designed to disrupt this focus. Constant notifications (通知) and the ease of clicking a new link prevent the brain from entering a state of “deep reading”. This prevents the reader from making personal connections with the text, leaving them with only a surface-level understanding of the information.
To rediscover the joy of reading, experts suggest a “digital diet”. This involves setting aside thirty minutes a day to read a physical book without any electronic distractions. By slowing down, we allow our brains to rebuild the neural pathways necessary for critical thinking and empathy. In the end, reading slowly is not about wasting time, but about reclaiming our minds.
32.What trouble does skimming online cause to readers?
A.The reliance on digital devices. B.The decline of reading efficiency.
C.The absence of cognitive capacity. D.The decrease of deep thinking ability.
33.What can we learn from the study?
A.Physical reading improves memory of stories. B.Digital devices can show a story’s emotions.
C.Long stories are unsuitable for e-readers. D.E-book readers have a clearer sense of time order.
34.What do experts suggest to improve our reading ability?
A.Spending more time on physical reading. B.Reading on e-readers more frequently.
C.Scanning pages for more key words. D.Setting up more digital links for information.
35.What is the best title for the text?
A.Screen Reading: Barriers to Deep Comprehension B.Skimming: A Popular Way of Digital Reading
C.Slow Reading: Regain Control of Our Minds D.Digital Diet: A Method to Restore Reading Ability
第二节(共5小题;每小题2. 5分,满分12. 5分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
When I moved a few years back, I spent weeks sorting, packing, trashing and giving away. Moves are great for making you realize how much stuff you’ve accumulated (积聚) — and how little of it you actually use! 36 Things are relatively cheap and buying things is pretty much a national hobby. Here are a few rules of thumb to downsize stuff.
If in doubt, throw it out. There are so many things we keep because we think there’s a slight chance of needing them again. 37 And if you do happen to need it, it’s probably not that big a deal to get another one. So get rid of it!
38 If you buy something new, or if your child gets new toys, you can make it a general rule that something should be given away — or thrown away in the case of things that are shabby or broken — in exchange.
Think of toys and clothes as consumables (like food, toilet paper or tickets to a movie). If you pay $10 for a toy and your children really enjoy it for a month and then it’s just taking up space, just think of that $10 like you’d think of the $10 you spent on a movie. 39 But just like you don’t have to keep the movie tickets, you don’t have to keep the toy.
Have a “giveaway box” on hand all the time and use that trash can freely. I routinely keep a charity donation box that fills up as I find things that have out-lived their usefulness. And my favorite aid to downsizing is my trash can. 40 It’s empowering!
A.It’s so easy to accumulate in our society.
B.When something comes in, something must go out.
C.I use whichever method fits the item in question.
D.We don’t even like or need them anymore.
E.It can be passed along to someone who might really enjoy it.
F.It was money well spent because it had provided nice enjoyment.
G.But there’s a far greater chance we won’t need those things again.

Archaeologists have identified residues (残留物) of a 2,300-year-old grain-based alcoholic drink from the Warring States Period (475BC-221BC) in northwest China’s Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, offering new insights 56 ancient Chinese brewing (酿酒) technology.
The discovery 57 (make) at the Shanjiabao cemetery of the Qin State in Guyuan, 58 researchers found liquid preserved inside a bronze garlic-head-shaped pot. Through a combination of archaeological research and advanced scientific analysis, researchers confirmed that the 3,740ml of liquid extracted from the vessel (器皿) was a grain-based alcoholic beverage (饮料) 59 (date) back to the Warring States Period.
The bronze pot adopted a dual sealing structure lined with textile fabrics 60 coated with organic mud. The complicated sealing isolated external contaminants, allowing the ancient liquor 61 (survive) with minimal volatilization (挥发) for over 2000 years.
A joint team consisting of researchers from two institutions carried out 62 (detail) tests.
The analysis identified 24 categories of compounds, including organic acids and amino acids. 63 (far) examination showed Qin people had mastered fermentation (发酵) skills, making 64 possible to complete saccharification (糖化) and fermentation at the same time.
The findings indicate that Qin people possessed advanced brewing skills at that time. This discovery provides valuable physical 65 ( evident) to support studies on ancient Chinese fermentation technology.

第二节(满分25分)
67. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Six-year-old Leo was born with a problem in his right leg. He needed a stick to walk. When he said he wanted to learn swimming, his whole family was surprised. “In the water, there’s no ground to stop me. I can ‘run’ like everyone else,” Leo said, holding his hands closely with strong hope in his eyes.
When Leo walked into the swimming pool for the first time, the cold water reached his stomach. Suddenly, his right leg lost control, and he started to sink (下沉). Coach Lisa quickly caught him and said softly, “Don’t be afraid. The water will hold you up.” But the training was much harder than Leo had thought. Kicking, which others learned easily, made Leo struggle a lot. His right leg just couldn’t move in the proper way. He could only swim two meters before choking (窒息) on water.
After about one month, Leo watched other kids swimming freely. He sat by the pool and wiped his tears: “I can never do this. I want to give up.” His mom sat by his side and said, “Look, Leo. At first, you couldn’t even stand in the water. But now you can swim five meters — that’s progress!” Coach Lisa also came over with a float (浮板): “Let’s try a new way. We’ ll practice using your left arm to swim first, and use a float for your right leg.”
The days of trying again were still full of challenges. One night, Leo’s right leg hurt so badly that he couldn’t fall asleep at all. The next morning, Leo refused to go to the pool, but his mother still drove him there. When Coach Lisa came to check on him, she brought along some good news. “The city’s disabled swimming competition is coming soon,” Coach Lisa said. “You’re getting faster and stronger, Leo. And I’ve signed you up for this competition.”
注意:1. 续写词数应为150个左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Hearing those words, Leo felt greatly encouraged.

Dear Kacey,
I’m glad to hear that our grade is going to set up a “Go for It!” Wall. Here are my suggestions.
First, I suggest updating the wall every two weeks with a new theme. This can keep the wall fresh and attract more students to participate regularly. Second, we could set up a small suggestion box, where students can secretly recommend what they want to see next. This encourages shy students to share their ideas without feeling pressured.
I believe these ideas will make the wall more engaging. I’d be happy to help with the setup if needed.
Yours,
Li Hua

Hearing those words, Leo felt greatly encouraged. He forgot the pain in his right leg at once and looked at Coach Lisa with bright eyes. Every day after that, he trained harder than before. He practiced arm strokes hundreds of times until his shoulders ached, and kept trying kicking even when his leg felt weak. His mom cheered for him by the pool, and Coach Lisa always corrected his postures patiently. Leo never complained again — he knew the competition was his chance to prove he could do it. He even started to imagine himself swimming bravely in the pool, with everyone cheering for him.
The competition day soon came, and Leo appeared at the starting point confidently. He knew he was well prepared. When the gun rang, he jumped into the water and swam as hard as he could. His right leg still didn’t move as smoothly as others, but he tried his best to push forward. The cheers from his family and Coach Lisa kept him going. Finally, he touched the finish line! Though he took third place, Leo raised his head proudly with tears of joy. Holding the medal, he realized he had not only shown everyone he could swim, but also found true freedom in the water — freedom from limits, freedom to chase his dreams.

【原文】M: You can take a bus and come to my place at 9:00 o’clock. That will give us time to catch the train.
W: OK. But a bus will take ages at that time. A taxi might be quicker. I can order one and come to you.
2.A
【原文】W: Can I follow you through the forest?
M: Yes, but change out of that T-shirt. The temperature there can be very low, so you need something better than that.
W: OK. I’ll finish my lunch and then I’ll be ready.
3.A
【原文】M: Eek, you are blinding me. Turn that light away.
W: Sorry, I forgot how powerful it is.
M: It’s OK. It was just a shock, stepping out of darkness into that.

【原文】W: How much further do we have to walk? I thought we would be at the top by now.
M: What’s the matter? Haven’t all those gym sessions strengthened your legs? Come on, we’ll be back home in no time.

【原文】M: I’ve been watching that program on TV about moving to the countryside.
W: Well, I like living in the city. Being on my own somewhere in the countryside wouldn’t suit me.
M: True. I know people think it’s good for your health, but not if you’re unhappy living there.

【原文】M: Susan, can you come to our house-warming party this weekend?
W: A house-warming party?
M: Yes, we are going to buy a new home in Woodlawn.
W: Congratulations!
M: Well, it’s no easy job. Houses in this area are extremely expensive.
W: I understand. That’s why Christopher and I want to find a place in a small town.
M: Good idea — if you can find employment nearby.
W: I agree. That’s why Christopher is already looking for a job in Maine, or Wisconsin.

【原文】W: Did you know it is more common for young people to take taxis and public transportation than to own a car?
M: I saw that this morning in the newspaper as well.
W: I guess it’s because income levels have really dropped since the last decade. Can you imagine taking a bus everywhere?
M: Traffic has gotten so bad in the city. Since last year, it’s been nearly impossible to park anywhere. That must have led to the fact that nobody is buying cars. Also, people can order taxis on their phones now — it’s so convenient.
W: But when you are driving, you feel so free. There are so many places a bus can’t take you to.
M: Well, I haven’t had a car for six months till now and have never looked back. Getting around has not gotten any harder, either by bus or taxi.

W: Do you have your passport with you?
M: Yes, here you are. I don’t need a visa to go to Japan, do I?
W: Fortunately for you, you don’t. Would you like a window seat?
M: Are there any seats available by the emergency exits?
W: Let me see. Yes, there’s one left in the back of the plane.
M: OK. I’ll take it then.
W: All right. How many pieces of luggage are you checking in?
M: I like to travel light so I just have this one.

M: Sure, come on in. What can I do for you?
W: Well, sir, as you know, I have been an employee of this famous firm for over ten years.
M: Yes.
W: I won’t beat around the bush, sir. I would like a raise. I currently have three companies after me and so I decided to talk to you first.
M: A raise? I would love to give you a raise, but this is just not the right time.
W: I understand your position and I know that the current economic downturn has had a negative impact on sale, but you must also take into consideration my hard work, performance and loyalty to this company for over a decade.
M: Taking into account these factors and, considering I don’t want to start losing qualified persons, I’m willing to offer you a ten percent raise and an extra five days of vacation time. How does that sound?
W: Great! It’s a deal! Thank you, sir!

W: Hello, everyone! Welcome to Creative Day School. This summer, we provide two full-time summer camp programs. Both will last the entire time the children are out of school. Our first summer camp is for our four-year-olds, called Mini Camp. This Mini Camp will still have their normal everyday schedule with a lot of fun activities. At least once a week, our mini campers will go on a field trip. These field trips could consist of a day at the beach or exploring the natural museum. Our Older Summer Camp is provided for ages 5 through 12. There are scheduled summer fun activities and games. The children will participate in art, outdoor play, games and much more. Swimming at a nearby pool is often a weekly field trip for ages 6 and up. Other field trips could include bowling, a day at the movies or a picnic in the park. Permission of parents and activity fees are required to participate in all field trips. Now let’s watch a five-minute film about last year’s programs.

【导语】主要介绍新加坡科研人员研发的一款装置,讲述它的工作原理、降噪效果、局限以及未来的改进方向。
【详解】24.细节理解题。根据第一段中的“However, open windows also allow noise to enter the room, which can make it difficult to rest, study, or sleep. To deal with this everyday problem, researchers at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore have developed a device.(然而,敞开的窗户也会让噪音进入室内,会让人难以休息、学习或者睡觉。为了解决这一日常问题,新加坡南洋理工大学的研究人员研发出一款装置。)”可知,该装置用来减少开窗时传入室内的噪音。
25.主旨大意题。根据第二段中的“A sensor was placed outside the window to detect incoming sounds. After receiving the sound signal, the system made the speakers produce sound waves that could weaken part of the unwanted noise before it spread further into the room.(一个传感器被放置在窗外,用来检测传入的声音。在接收到声音信号之后,该系统让扬声器产生声波,这些声波能够在不需要的噪音进一步扩散到房间内部之前削弱其中一部分。)”可知,第二段介绍这款装置是如何运行的,也就是它的工作原理。
26.细节理解题。根据第四段中的“Speech and other sharp sounds were more likely to slip through, with those sounds often carrying higher‑frequency details that this design struggled to cancel.(人声以及其他尖锐的声音更容易穿透进来,这类声音往往带有高频细节,该设计难以将其消除。)”可知,人声难以被阻隔,是因为人声包含高频细节。
27.推理判断题。根据最后一段中的“The speakers used in the experiments were quite small, so they could not handle very deep low-frequency noise well. Larger speakers might improve performance, but they could also block more sunlight and reduce the view from the window. In the future, the researchers hope to test the device in real homes and improve its design for everyday use. (实验中使用的扬声器尺寸很小,所以无法很好地处理极低频噪音。更大的扬声器或许能改善性能,但也会遮挡更多阳光,遮挡窗外视野。在未来,研究人员希望在真实家庭环境中测试该设备,并针对日常使用优化其设计。)”可知,这款装置还存在不足之处,仍然需要改良。

Dear Kacey,
I’m glad to hear that our grade is going to set up a “Go for It!” Wall.
