Make your own rainbow
Learn how to make a rainbow with this fun science experiment (实验) for kids. Use just a few simple everyday things, and you can find out how rainbows work while enjoying a creative hands-on activity that’s perfect for kids. The experiment will help bring the exciting world of science to life.
What you’ll need
·A glass of water (about three quarters full)
·White paper
·A sunny day
Instructions
·Take the glass of water and paper to a part of the room with sunlight (better near a window)
·Hold the glass of water above the paper and watch as sunlight passes through the glass of water. The sunlight is refracted (折射) and forms a rainbow of colours on your piece of paper.
·Try holding the glass of water at different heights and angles to see what may happen.
What’s happening?
·While you usually see a rainbow in the sky, it can also appear in other situations. You may have seen a rainbow in a water fountain (喷泉) or in the middle of a waterfall and you even make your own in this experiment.
·Rainbows form in the sky when sunlight is refracted as it passes through raindrops: it acts in the same way when it passes through a glass of water. The sunlight is refracted, separating itself into the colours including red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet.
26. What’s the experiment about?

In English learning, many students are always worried about memorizing words. As the basis (基础) of English learning, words are surely very important. If you want to learn English well, you have to memorize the words. How can you make it easier?
First, find the best time for your memory. The best time for memory is different from person to person. Choosing the time properly will make a difference to your study. Never remember words when you are in bad feelings.
Second, you should start with easy words, not the difficult ones. If not, you may lose confidence (自信心) and want to give up.
Third, remember new words according to their pronunciation. Read the words aloud, and you will find some spelling rules. This will help you a lot. For example, “-tion” is often placed at the end of a word, and the word is usually a noun (名词).
Fourth, memorizing words by reading, writing or listening is the best way. You can read more English books and newspapers, try making English sentences, and listen to English songs or watch English movies.
In short, I’m sure that you will find your own learning way. No matter how good the way is, hard work is necessary.
根据材料内容选择最佳答案,并将其标号填入题前括号内。

People think differently, but how does this happen? To find out the answer, Dr. Guilford, a famous phycologist, carried out a study on creativity (创造力) in the 1970s, known at The Nine-Dot Puzzle (九点谜题).
In the research, Guilford asked participators (参与者) to connect all nine dots with at most four straight lines, without lifting pencils from the paper. As a result, only 20% managed to solve the puzzle. The following survey showed that all failed participators had looked for ways in the virtual (虚拟的) box, which is formed with virtual lines. But the winners could break out of the virtual box and continued their lines in the open space around the dots. The results of Guilford’s research led him to an idea: creativity needs you to go outside the box.
The idea was widely spread soon. Overnight, it seemed that there were creativity experts everywhere, teaching people how to think outside the box. The idea was so popular that no one thought of checking the facts until two different research teams, did another study.
To check if Guilford’s idea is correct, the participators were divided (分) into two groups. The first group was given the same instructions as those in Guilford’s study. The second group was told they could draw outside the virtual box. Most people think that at least 60% of the second group could solve the puzzle easily. Guess what? Less than 25% solved the puzzle. It was nearly the same as the result of Guilford’s study. The result made everyone surprised, but it was the truth.
Let’s look more closely at the surprising result. Solving this problem needs people to think outside the box. However, direct and clear instructions—“think outside the box” did not help participators solve the puzzle more easily. In some ways, the idea that thinking outside the box makes people more creative can be improper.
32. Which of the following can solve The Nine-Dot Puzzle?
A. B. C. D.
33. Most people thought that in Guilford’s study, more participators would solve the puzzle if ________.
A. they could find out the imagined box more quickly
B. they were given some more time to complete the puzzle
C. they were told to draw the lines outside the imagined box
D. they could discuss the ways together with other participators
34. The passage probably tells us that ________.
A. the popular ideas among most people are true
B. the “facts” accepted by many people may not be facts
C. being good at going outside the box means creativity
D. practising solving puzzles does help to think differently

It was a week before I saw Captain Nemo again. Every morning, I noticed fresh air coming into the rooms and I knew that the Nautilus came to the top. I would go out and see the sunrise.
Then I received a note from Captain Nemo. He invited me and my friends to go hunting with him in the forests of Crespo Island. Ned was excited because he thought there he could find a chance to run away. When I saw Captain Nemo the next day, I asked him why he was so interested in Crespo Island. “I thought you preferred the sea.”
“I do,” replied the Captain. “But these forests are under the sea.” During breakfast, he explained that he had made diving suits with special air tanks before he invited us. These tanks would allow us to stay under the water for ten hours. He had also made lights that worked in electric batteries (电池). When Ned realized that we were not going onto land for our hunting trip, he decided not to come at all.
Conseil and I put on our diving suits, and so did Captain Nemo and one of his men. We stepped into a room and closed the door. The room was filled with water, and another door opened. We went through it, and we were on the sea floor. It was an amazing experience that I would never forget.
We were about ten metres under the water. The light from the sun reached us. Everything looked very colourful. We walked over the fine sand and enjoyed the colours of the shells, fish and seaweed. Conseil and I followed Captain Nemo and his man as they crossed a large grassy area. We were going deeper and deeper.
As we were a hundred metres under the water, we could still see quite well. Captain Nemo stopped and pointed to some dark shapes. This was the forest. The “trees” there were giant seaweed, and all their branches (枝杈) were vertical (垂直的). We could not stop looking at them. Fish swam around the branches like birds in a forest. Small bushes grew under the large seaweed trees.
Three hours later, we lay down to rest. I was not hungry, but very sleepy. We all slept, and when we woke up, we explored further.

【33题详解】
细节理解题。根据“The second group was told they could draw outside the virtual box. Most people think that at least 60% of the second group could solve the puzzle easily.”可知,人们预期如果参与者被告知可以在想象的边界之外画线,会有更多人解决这个谜题。故选C。
【34题详解】
主旨大意题。文章讨论了广泛认为的“超越框架思维”提升创造力的观点,并指出这一观点在解决九点谜题时并没有带来更好的问题解决能力。最后得出结论,广为接受的观点并不总是正确的。故选B。
D
