In my family we were two children, one employed adult, and Christmas was coming. My parents were managing, but only just, and they had started preparing us for a simpler Christmas. So they told me, their 5-year-old daughter, well in advance that Santa Claus had received so many letters that winter that he had run out of presents. Santa is generous, they explained, but Santa is not bottomless. Everybody knew, of course, that Santa did not actually manufacture (大量生产) the gifts. He bought them, like anyone else. For a 5-year-old, this was a disaster. But children often have an unnerving ability to solve problems before the adults around them notice. I went to my room, found old toys, and wrapped them carefully. One for my mother, one for my father, one for each of my grandparents, and some for myself and my brother. By the morning, I had become, in my own mind, the hero of Christmas. There would be presents under the tree. There would be the best part of Christmas, the opening. I had solved the first money problem of my life and brought joy to my family. The ending was happier than I expected. Santa, it turned out, had found gifts for the young family after all. The old toys were quietly returned to my bedroom. And yet, that Christmas has stayed with me my whole life. It is a memory about adapting to something a child has a hard time understanding. It is also a memory about something common, the kind of relative shortage and insecurity that exists in many families. That memory, and the dozens that followed, quietly built a way of thinking I never noticed I had. I came to believe that whether we had plenty of money or just about enough, we would manage, and our problems would be temporary. 4. Why did the author’s parents mention Santa Claus in advance? A. To encourage her to share presents. B. To explain their financial difficulties. C. To teach her how Santa Claus worked. D. To lower her expectations for Christmas. 5. What happened that Christmas? A. The author was praised for her thoughtful idea. B. The author prepared gifts for her family in secret. C. Santa put the author’s toys back where they were. D. The author’s plan to solve the money problem failed. 6. Which of the following best describes the author as a kid? A. Curious and patient. B. Honest and sensitive. C. Creative and generous. D. Reliable and determined. 7. What can we infer about the author from the last paragraph? A. She prefers to depend on herself. B. She sees hardships as manageable. C. She finds it hard to adapt to changes. D. She underestimates the value of money. C It used to be easy to tell when a face was generated with AI. Whether it was an unnatural expression, impossibly smooth skin, or a noticeable third ear, early AI-generated fake human faces were simple to spot and easy to dismiss. That’s just not true anymore. Now, AI image generators can produce portraits so convincing that even careful observers struggle to distinguish fact from fiction. That’s why apps such as Zoom and Tinder allow their users to submit biometric identification to help prove a real person exists behind a profile picture. But a new study suggests you can train your brain to get better at spotting fakes. Past attempts to teach people to spot AI faces have focused on visual errors like strange ears. But those clues can disappear with a software update or by a different prompt (提示词). “The AI is getting too good,” said Amy Dawel, the lead author of the study. “And fraudsters (骗子) may avoid using pictures with obvious mistakes anyway. The result is an endless technological arms race humans are likely to lose.” Instead, the researchers taught the participants how to recognize broader patterns in how AI systems generate images. “Our training directs people’s attention to global qualities differing between AI and human faces,” Dawel said. Current AI image generators are trained on datasets composed of millions of images. When prompted to generate a face, they don’t copy, but compose one based on the mathematical patterns shared across the faces. Individually, none of these characteristics are strange. But together, the whole is plainer than the sum of its parts which can often be sensed. Compared with real faces, AI-generated faces tend to be more symmetrical (对称的), more balanced, and more attractive — while also being less expressive, less distinctive and significantly less memorable. The participants were trained to look for these six markers instead of obvious errors. “Even with short training sessions, the chance of spotting AI faces almost doubled,” says Tanya George, a trainer from Australian National University. “People need training to navigate increasingly complex online environments.” 8. Why do some apps require biometric identification? A. To replace AI image generators. B. To confirm online users’ identity. C. To limit the use of AI portrait tools. D. To improve the quality of online photos. 9. What does Amy Dawel think of the earlier ways to spot AI faces? A. They rely much on varied prompts. B. They help fraudsters avoid detection. C. They have fallen behind AI progress. D. They beat humans in tech competitions. 10. What were the participants told to focus on? A. Overall facial features. B. Massive image datasets. C. Tiny facial characteristics. D. Shared mathematical patterns. 11. What does Tanya George think of the training in the research? A. Effective. B. Complicated. C. Temporary. D. Thorough. D The dawn chorus of birdsong has inspired poets and nature lovers for thousands of years, but the reason why birds start the day this way is an enduring mystery. Now, a series of experiments on zebra finches (斑胸草雀) suggests that while darkness holds back singing, birds build up a strong motivation to sing in the night that causes them to burst into song at dawn. Satoshi Kojima at the Korea Brain Research Institute and his colleagues studied lab-raised zebra finches in carefully-controlled lighting conditions. When the team delayed sudden exposure to bright light until three hours after actual dawn, the finches, which were awake, remained silent in the dark; once the light was turned on, they sang more intensely than usual. However, when the lights came on three hours earlier than true dawn, the chorus was less intense. “The birds are already awake in the dark before the lights come on,” Kojima says. He notes that darkness subdues their natural urge to sing, which in turn boosts their singing motivation, leading to a rebound of intense singing when lights come on. The researchers then administered the drug luzindole, which blocks the effects of melatonin (褪黑激素), a hormone that helps regulate wakefulness cycles in many animals. Birds that were given this drug five hours before the normal lights-on time woke up more quickly and began singing earlier than those in the control group. Besides, analysis of the birds’ songs revealed rapid structural shifts in the first hour after dawn compared to the second. “Due to the absence of singing during the night, the vocal motor system and song structure may slightly suffer, and the dawn chorus serves to quickly restore or improve them,” says Kojima. While this study examined only one species, similar drivers may apply to other bird species, he says. But Diego Gil at the National Museum of Natural Sciences in Madrid, Spain, urges caution. There are “extensive differences between species: how, when and what birds sing in the dawn chorus”, he says. “This explains why 11 different assumptions have been proposed to understand the phenomenon.” 12. What does Kojima’s experiment in Paragraph 2 mainly show? A. Finches’ chorus strength relates to time staying in the dark. B. Lab-raised zebra finches are more sensitive to light changes. C. Earlier light exposure results in a more intense dawn chorus. D. Earlier light exposure makes the birds’ dawn chorus last longer. 13. What does the underlined word “subdues” in Paragraph 3 probably mean? A. Transforms. B. Restricts. C. Motivates. D. Ignores. 14. What can we learn from the experiment with luzindole? A. Luzindole improves birds’ vocal motor system. B. Melatonin showed no effect on the control group. C. Melatonin may prevent birds’ waking and singing. D. Luzindole directly lifts birds’ dawn-singing motivation. 15. What do Diego Gil’s words imply? A. More experiments are needed to confirm the assumption. B. The findings on zebra finches may not fit all bird species. C. All proposed assumptions about dawn chorus are unreliable. D. Species differences have no impact on dawn chorus patterns. In our culture, popcorn and movies just go together. The association is so strong, in fact, that people joke about wanting to get some popcorn to snack on whenever there’s an entertaining show to watch. ____16____ You might be surprised to learn something about popcorn and early cinemas. The steam-powered popcorn maker was invented in the late 1800s. Soon popcorn grew popular at fairs, circuses and outdoor sports events. ____17____ According to the Smithsonian, theater owners had many worries. They feared loose popcorn bits would ruin carpets and soft seat coverings. Besides, loud chewing sounds would disturb viewers. ____18____ Any eating noise would easily pull people’s attention away from the screen. Two factors led to popcorn’s takeover as movie-goers’ snack of choice. One was the introduction of films with sound in 1927. It increased the mass appeal of movies and also lessened concerns about distracting background noises. The second was the start of the Great Depression (大萧条). ____19____ Popcorn was a good choice because it was cheap and could be stored for a long time. Theaters that sold popcorn not only weathered the storm of the Depression, but saw their profits increase, while theaters refusing to do that struggled. World War II strengthened the association between movies and popcorn that the Depression started. ____20____ However, popcorn remained easy to get and just as tasty as ever. By the end of the 1940s, the idea of watching a movie was closely linked with eating popcorn in people’s imagination. Today, even if you’re having a movie night at home instead of going to a theater, you might find that the experience just doesn’t feel right without popcorn. A. Back then, all movies were silent. B. Can popcorn truly enhance a movie night? C. People would pass popcorn around and share it. D. However, it was nowhere to be found in movie theaters. E. Shortages of sugar made many sweet snacks unavailable. F. Many theaters tried to make some profits by selling snacks. G. But how did the link between popcorn and movies come to be? In the 1980s I worked in Sudan. She carried herself with seriousness, never joining in casual small talk or lighthearted jokes with her students. Though her class was famously lively and mischievous (顽皮的) — always buzzing in other teachers’ lessons — the students treated her with absolute respect. No one dared to fool around or crack a silly joke in her presence, for they knew she tolerated no indiscipline. Rarely was a smile seen on her face. Careful in every task, she ran her classes and daily work with precise perfection. Every lesson plan was flawlessly (无瑕地) organized, every assignment graded with careful attention, and every classroom rule strictly carried out. It seemed she was determined to keep every single detail of her professional life on track, leaving no room for the slightest mistake or chaos. One ordinary morning, however, an unexpected incident broke her usual routine. As the school bell rang to signal the start of class, Ms. Wilson stepped into the classroom with her usual steady and serious expression. To her immediate confusion, silence did not fall as usual. Instead, low whispers and giggles spread through the rows of desks. Before long, Hammond, the naughtiest boy in the class, couldn’t help but let out a laugh, drawing even more curious glances among the students. Frowning, Ms. Wilson shot him her sharp warning look — the one that always instantly quieted all mischief and made everyone sit up straight. Hammond quickly shut tight his mouth, but his shoulders still shook with fun, and the awkward murmurs in the room did not fade away. What surprised her most was that even Shelly, the most sensible and well-behaved girl in the class, could no longer keep calm. Sitting straight in her seat, Shelly’s eyes were wide with amusement, and she seemed eager to say something yet a bit hesitant. When their eyes met, Shelly, with courage, gestured toward Ms. Wilson’s feet with a subtle hand movement. Paragraph 1: Ms. Wilson glanced down at her own shoes and froze on the spot. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: Sensing Ms. Wilson’s embarrassment, Hammond bravely stood up. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 威远中学校2027届高三上期第一次月考 英语试题 注意事项: 1. 1. D 5. B 6. C 7. 根据第一段中“My parents were managing, but only just, and they had started preparing us for a simpler Christmas.(我的父母勉强维持生计,他们已经开始让我们对一个简单的圣诞节做好心理准备。)”以及第二段中“So they told me, their 5‑year‑old daughter, well in advance that Santa Claus had received so many letters that winter that he had run out of presents.(于是他们提前告诉我这个五岁的女儿,那个冬天圣诞老人收到太多信件,礼物已经用完了。)” 根据第三段中“But children often have an unnerving ability to solve problems before the adults around them notice. I went to my room, found old toys, and wrapped them carefully. One for my mother, one for my father, one for each of my grandparents, and some for myself and my brother.(但孩子们常常拥有令人不安的能力,在周围成年人察觉之前就解决了问题。我走进房间,找出旧玩具,仔细包好。一份给妈妈,一份给爸爸,爷爷奶奶各一份,还有一些给我自己和弟弟。)”可知,作者秘密地为家人准备礼物。 【6题详解】 推理判断题。根据第三段中“But children often have an unnerving ability to solve problems before the adults around them notice. I went to my room, found old toys, and wrapped them carefully.(但孩子们常常有一种惊人的能力,能在身边大人察觉之前解决问题。我走进房间,找出旧玩具,仔细包好。)”可知,小小年纪的作者想出用旧玩具充当礼物的办法,主动给家人准备礼物,体现出有创造力、大方的品质。 【7题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段中“I came to believe that whether we had plenty of money or just about enough, we would manage, and our problems would be temporary.(我渐渐相信,无论我们钱多还是仅够糊口,我们总能应付过去,困难都是暂时的。)” C It used to be easy to tell when a face was generated with AI. C. Temporary. D. Thorough. B 9. C 10. A 11. 根据第二段中“That’s why apps such as Zoom and Tinder allow their users to submit biometric identification to help prove a real person exists behind a profile picture. (这就是为什么Zoom和Tinder等应用允许用户提交生物识别信息,以帮助证明个人资料照片背后存在一个真实的人。)”可知,一些应用要求生物识别是为了确认用户的身份。 【9题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段中“Past attempts to teach people to spot AI faces have focused on visual errors like strange ears. But those clues can disappear with a software update or by a different prompt (提示词). “The AI is getting too good,” said Amy Dawel, the lead author of the study. “And fraudsters (骗子) may avoid using pictures with obvious mistakes anyway. The result is an endless technological arms race humans are likely to lose.” 根据第四段中“Instead, the researchers taught the participants how to recognize broader patterns in how AI systems generate images. “Our training directs people’s attention to global qualities differing between AI and human faces,” Dawel said. (相反,研究人员教参与者如何识别AI系统生成图像时更广泛的模式。Dawel说:“我们的训练引导人们关注AI与人脸之间不同的整体特征。”)”及最后一段中“The participants were trained to look for these six markers instead of obvious errors. (参与者接受训练,要去识别这六项特征,而非那些明显的破绽。)”可知,参与者被要求关注整体面部特征。 【11题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段中““Even with short training sessions, the chance of spotting AI faces almost doubled,” says Tanya George, a trainer from Australian National University. “People need training to navigate increasingly complex online environments.” (“即使经过短时间的训练,识别AI人脸的概率也几乎翻了一倍,”澳大利亚国立大学的培训师Tanya George表示。“人们需要接受训练,以便在日益复杂的网络环境中应对自如。”)”可知,短期训练就能让识别概率翻倍,Tanya George认为这项训练是有效的。 D The dawn chorus of birdsong has inspired poets and nature lovers for thousands of years, but the reason why birds start the day this way is an enduring mystery. A 13. B 14. C 15. 根据第二段“When the team delayed sudden exposure to bright light until three hours after actual dawn, the finches, which were awake, remained silent in the dark; once the light was turned on, they sang more intensely than usual. However, when the lights came on three hours earlier than true dawn, the chorus was less intense. (当研究小组将突然暴露在强光下的时间推迟到实际黎明后三小时,那些已经醒来的雀鸟在黑暗中保持沉默;一旦灯光打开,它们唱歌的强度比平时更大。然而,当灯光比真正的黎明早三小时亮起时,合唱的强度就减弱了)”可知,斑胸草雀在黑暗中停留的时间越长,天亮后的合唱强度越大,即合唱强度与在黑暗中停留的时间相关。故选A项。 根据第三段“He notes that darkness subdues their natural urge to sing, which in turn boosts their singing motivation, leading to a rebound of intense singing when lights come on. (他指出,黑暗subdues它们唱歌的自然冲动,这反过来又增强了它们唱歌的动力,导致灯光亮起时强烈唱歌的反弹)”可知,黑暗抑制了雀鸟唱歌的自然冲动,subdues意为“抑制”,与Restricts意思相近。故选B项。 【14题详解】 推理判断题。根据第四段“The researchers then administered the drug luzindole, which blocks the effects of melatonin (褪黑激素), a hormone that helps regulate wakefulness cycles in many animals. Birds that were given this drug five hours before the normal lights-on time woke up more quickly and began singing earlier than those in the control group. 根据最后一段“While this study examined only one species, similar drivers may apply to other bird species, he says. But Diego Gil at the National Museum of Natural Sciences in Madrid, Spain, urges caution. There are “extensive differences between species: how, when and what birds sing in the dawn chorus”, he says. “This explains why 11 different assumptions have been proposed to understand the phenomenon.”(虽然这项研究只考察了一个物种,但类似的驱动因素可能也适用于其他鸟类,他说。 In our culture, popcorn and movies just go together. 16. G 17. When it comes to traveling, I firmly believe it is necessary to make thorough travel plans before setting off. To begin with, detailed preparations ensure our safety. We can look up local weather, transport and dangerous areas ahead of time to stay away from risks. Besides, learning about local traditions helps us behave politely and avoid cultural misunderstandings. Moreover, planning budgets and attractions saves plenty of time and money. Without detailed plans, we may waste hours finding hotels or getting tickets. All in all, proper pre-trip research brings us a safer, smoother and more rewarding journey. 例文② Should We Make Detailed Travel Plans Before Trips? When it comes to traveling, I think there is no need to make thorough travel plans before travelling. For one thing, over-detailed schedules take away the joy of surprise. If every hour is arranged, we will miss unexpected beautiful scenery or warm encounters with locals. For another, tight plans bring huge pressure. Travelling is meant to relax ourselves, not rush from one spot to another according to a rigid timetable. Too many detailed plans limit our freedom. We can wander freely, adjust our route anytime and feel the real charm of travelling. In short, light preparation leaves room for wonderful random experiences. 词汇积累 出发:set off → depart 确保:ensure → guarantee 地区:area → district 有益的:rewarding → beneficial 2. Besides, learning about local traditions helps us behave politely and avoid cultural misunderstandings. Not only can learning about local traditions help us behave politely, but it also enables us to avoid cultural misunderstandings. 1】When it comes to traveling, I firmly believe it is necessary to make thorough travel plans before setting off.(运用了省略that的宾语从句和动名词短语setting off作宾语) 【高分句型2】We can look up local weather, transport and dangerous areas ahead of time to stay away from risks.(运用了不定式作目的状语) 第二节(满分25分) 47. Ms. Wilson was widely known as the strictest teacher in the entire grade. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】例文 Paragraph 1: Ms. Wilson glanced down at her own shoes and froze on the spot. A quiet exclamation slipped out of her mouth. It suddenly occurred to her that she had made a silly mistake. Exhausted from a sleepless night, she got up late and hurried to school in a rush that morning. Unconsciously, she had put on two totally different sneakers with different styles. She had worn them all morning without noticing the ridiculous error. Heat flooded her face at once, making her cheeks burn red. As a strict perfectionist who always pursued flawless work and manners, she felt extremely embarrassed in front of her students. Paragraph 2: Sensing Ms. Wilson’s embarrassment, Hammond bravely stood up. Smiling sincerely, he comforted her that mismatched shoes were a new and special fashion trend. The other students nodded in agreement to cheer her up. Moved by the kids’ kindness and amused by her own blunder, Ms. Wilson finally relaxed her stern look. She smiled a genuine and warm smile for the first time. The tense atmosphere faded away, and the whole classroom was filled with joy. From then on, the strict teacher built a warmer and closer bond with her students. 词汇激活 行为类 ①匆忙赶往:hurry to/rush to ②逐渐消失:fade away/die away/vanish gradually 情绪类 ①尴尬的:embarrassed/awkward ②被感动的:moved/touched 【点睛】【高分句型1】It suddenly occurred to her that she had made a silly mistake.
