When I was in Year 7, Mum put up a piece of paper on the kitchen wall. It was a weekly plan. It showed wake-up times, study hours, and even a “no phone after 9:30 p.m.” rule. I looked at it and said, “This won’t work.” Mum just smiled and said, “We’ll see.”
The first few days were messy. I didn’t check the list. I stayed up late watching videos and rushed through my homework. On Friday of that week, I got my school report for maths — 63 out of 100. That evening, Mum pointed at the paper and asked calmly, “Still think it won’t work?” I stayed quiet.
The next Monday, Mum handed me a pencil. “You write the plan,” she said. So I did, though not very seriously at first. I set shorter study times and left more breaks. But this time, something felt different — it was my list.
On Wednesday night, my phone rang with a video call. I wanted to reach for it, but then I noticed the paper. I didn’t want to mark “maths practice” without doing it. So I didn’t answer the phone. Instead, I sat down and studied for twenty minutes.
The next day, when the teacher returned our maths homework, mine turned out to be the only one without mistakes! She even held it up in class. “Good improvement,” she said. That small moment stayed with me.
Over the next few weeks, the paper on the wall changed again and again. I began to follow it more often. And when the next maths test came, I got 85.
Later that day, I thought about what really changed. The list itself wasn’t special. The difference was that I stopped-treating it as something Mum forced me to do and started using it as something I chose. The real change happened inside me.

A. Failure is the mother of success. B. A good study plan should include breaks.
C. The power to change lies in our own hands. D. Small successes can bring about big changes.

Paper is one of the most important inventions in human history. Before paper, people wrote on heavy materials like animal bones and bamboo, which were hard to use and carry. The invention of paper meant that more people could be educated because books and knowledge could be shared more easily. It provided a very important way to communicate.
Paper was first made in China around 100 B. C. People used silk waste to make paper. The process had several steps: first, the material was put in water, then cooked and beaten into a soft mix. A thin bamboo tool was placed into this mix, coming out with a fine covering on it. After the unwanted water was pressed out, it was left to dry on a hot wall, and then a piece of paper could be taken off. The paper made with these materials was not very good. It was also expensive.
Then around 105 A. D., a man in China named Cai Lun, known as the inventor of the paper we use today, came up with a better and cheaper way to make paper. His way also made it possible to make a lot of paper at once.
The knowledge of papermaking spread from China to its neighbors. Korea and Japan, and later reached Europe mainly through the Silk Road. However, paper was not commonly used in the West until about 1400. Later, countries with many forests like Canada, Sweden, Norway, Finland and the United States became key paper producers. Today, Finland makes the best paper and has the biggest paper industry in the world.
When we think of paper, we think of books, newspapers, and letters. It is clear that the invention of paper brought a huge change to human life, making it possible for printing to be invented later. Paper truly plays an important role in our lives.

A.①-③-②-④ B.②-④-①-③

So far, China has sent a large number of satellites (卫星) and spaceships into space. Space scientists have been greatly inspired (赋予灵感) by the old stories and ancient. famous people when giving them names.
Since thousands of years ago, Chinese people have dreamed of going to the moon. Chang’e Flies to the Moon is one of the most popular stories. As you can see, China’s first man-made satellite to circle around the moon was named Chang’e I. More interestingly, the moon rover (巡视器) was named after the Jade Rabbit, who is the partner of Chang’e in the story. These old stories carry people’s best wishes and dreams. With the development of science and technology, our scientists have made them come true.
Kua Fu Runs After the Sun is another story to show how much ancient Chinese people wanted to know about the unknown world. Now, Kua Fu is going with the scientists to “visit” the sun, because we have a space project called Kua Fu Mission.
Besides the ancient stories, space scientists also get ideas from ancient famous people. For example, Mozi, an ancient scientist, discovered that light travels in a straight line over 2,000 years ago. His discovery made space study take a big step at that time. So, China’s first quantum (量子) science satellite was named Mozi, making China the first country in the world to achieve quantum communication between satellites and the ground.
From such simple things as giving names to the satellites, we can see how great our traditional culture is and what influence it has on our modern science and technology.

The tradition of wearing new clothes to celebrate the Chinese New Year has made hanfu experience big growth during the festival. 73
The horse-face skirt, also known as mamianqun, first appeared in the Song Dynasty and soon became popular because it was both practical and pretty. It remained a great choice during the Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties.
74 The answer is no. In fact, the horse-face skirt got its name because it looked similar to the Mamian fortress (堡垒) -a part of the city wall. The pleats (褶) on the sides of the skirt looked like the stairs on the Mamian fortress. 75
The horse-face skirt is colourful, mostly red and blue. Red is the most popular colour in traditional Chinese culture because it is a symbol of good luck and joy. Women usually wear red skirts during celebrations such as weddings and festivals. 76 As a popular colour at that time, blue was often paired with black and yellow.
Today’s horse-face skirts are different from those of ancient times. They have been modernized in a number of ways, but they still help connect the past with the present. 77
A. They don’t like to wear clothes in other colours.
