Hello. My name is Dave Bums, and I'm here to tell
you about the welcoming party we are having for new
students. The information on your invitations has mis-
takes. We didn't have enough time to print new invitations,
so I'll have to ask you to make changes. To start with, this
isn't a welcoming lunch:it's a dancing party.However,the
next line is true. The party will be held at Blackwell
House. The next line tells you when the party will be:
Friday June 15th at 8 p.m.,but I have good news:the par-
ty will end at 11 p.m.Some of you may prefer to travel by
car,but I have to warn you about some changes to the
roads. You will find there are repairs to Smith Street.
Blackwell Street is very long. You should avoid the corner
of Blackwell Street and Jones Avenue, because traffic jams
often take place there. The best thing to do is take the first
road on your left which is Brown Street. It will lead you in-
to the college grounds,so that's easy.I hope everyone has a
great time.

Many people in the USA are dependent on their cars to
go to work or school. In fact, most American workers
spend at least one hour driving to work each day.In order
to drive in the USA,you have to go to your local Department
of Motor Vehicles and take a written test to get your learner's
permit. If you pass this test, you are allowed to practice
driving.Once you pass a road test, you will be given a
driver's license. One of the best ways to prepare for the
road test is to take classes at a driving school. If you can-
not do so,you can practice driving by yourself. If you are
caught driving with only a learner's permit, you may get in-
to trouble with the law.Once you get your driver's license
in one state, you can drive in all of the states in America.
Wherever you drive, you will see signs posted along the
road indicating the speed limit. The local police use special
equipment to measure your speed. If they find you are driv-
ing over the speed limit, the police can stop you and give
you a ticket.
