D. Wrongdoing or not?
Think
Read the opinion essay. What is the writer’s view on using photocopied textbooks in class?
The writer believes that photocopying a few pages is acceptable, but copying complete textbooks is illegal and should never be done.
Should we use photocopied textbooks in class?
It is illegal to copy a textbook. However, if it is just a few pages then it should be accepted.
Just like other books, the texts we use in class have writers and publishers. These writers and publishers have put a lot of time and effort into create the books. Their works should be recognised. However, if a teacher is only using a few pages of a book, I think it is acceptable to photocopy it. It would be a waste of money and resources for every student to buy a book to a few pages. What’s more, teachers need to set a good example. while a few pages are acceptable, complete books should never be copyed.

Should We Copy Others’ Homework?
First, copying homework is a form of cheating. It prevents us from finding our weak points. If we always copy, we will not make progress and will surely fail our exams. Second, it is unfair to those who spend time working hard independently. It also breaks the trust between teachers and us.
Sample
Should We Copy Others’ Homework?
Of course, homework can sometimes be difficult. However, instead of copying, we should ask teachers or classmates for help. In conclusion, we must be honest and finish our homework by ourselves.

Singapore
In order to keep public places clean, it’s against the law for businesses or individuals to sell chewing gum in Singapore, unless it is for medical purposes. Tourists are allowed to carry a reasonable amount of chewing gum for personal use. However, those caught littering chewing gum could still be fined.

Thailand
Whether at the beach or in the city, littering is considered very serious in Thailand. It is to lower the visitors’ influence on the environment. If caught littering in Thailand’s national parks, you can face large amounts of fines and in some cases even jail time. From 2020, Khao Yai National Park starts to send rubbish back to those who left them behind.

Do you think these laws would be acceptable?
Why or why not?
Singapore (Chewing gum)
Yes, it is acceptable. It helps keep public places clean. While banning sales is strict, the law is reasonable because it still allows tourists to bring a reasonable amount for personal use, while fining those who litter it.

Thailand (Littering)
Yes, it is acceptable. It effectively protects the environment by lowering visitors’ negative influence, and the severe penalties (fines or jail time) strongly deter people from littering. Sending rubbish back to offenders is a creative and fair punishment.

Keeping order with rules around us
Step 1: Plan
As a group, discuss and decide on a wrongdoing that could be a topic of your short play.
Below are two questions you can refer to when discussing.
• What things may get people in trouble?
• Can our short play make the audience think about their own behaviour?
Step 2: Create
Make an outline of your short play. The outline should include the setting, the main characters (including a narrator) and details of the events/plots.
Step 3: Write
Write a playscript. Usually there are dialogues and actions in the script.
Narrator:
After school, students are shopping in the nearby chain food store.
Linda (in a loud voice):
John, you haven't paid for that packet of chips.
...
John (embarrassed):
Oh, I’m sorry ...
