Passage 1
When I first came to China, I did not understand why people loved hotpot. I thought eating out should save me from cooking. At my first hotpot dinner, I did not know when the meat was ready. Other diners sometimes took the food I had put into the pot.
My view changed after I met the woman who later became my wife. She managed the shared pot patiently and showed me how to enjoy the meal. I learned that a ladle (长柄勺) could keep the food in order and help everyone serve themselves safely.
Now I follow several simple rules. I invite no more than four people, because a very crowded table can become confusing. I keep my bowl close to the pot, use a ladle when needed and stop eating before I feel too full. Most importantly, I know my limit.
Hotpot is no longer a cooking problem to me. It is a chance to share food and stories with friends. Now I enjoy both the food and the conversation around the shared pot.
41. Why did the writer dislike hotpot at first?
A. The soup was always too cold. B. He still had to cook the food.
C. The restaurant was too far away. D. His friends did not eat noodles.
42. Who helped change the writer's view of hotpot?
A. The woman who became his wife. B. A waiter in Hangzhou.
C. A tourist from another city. D. The cook at his first restaurant.
43. Which of the following is TRUE?
A. The writer always eats hotpot alone. B. He puts lettuce into the pot first.
C. He keeps his bowl near the pot. D. He never uses a spoon or ladle.
44. What does “limit” mean in Paragraph 3?
A. The restaurant bill. B. A new cooking rule.

C. Why I Opened a Restaurant D. How to Choose a Tour Group

原文“I keep my bowl close to the pot, use a ladle when needed and stop eating before I feel too full.”
原文“Most importantly, I know my limit.”译为“最重要的是,我知道自己的限度”,后文说“stop eating before I feel too full”(在过饱前停止进食),可知limit指“一个人应该吃到的限度”,故选D。
原文“Now I enjoy both the food and the conversation around the shared pot.”
