【答案】One Possible Version
“I can’t believe this is happening” was all I could think. I closed my eyes, covered my ears and shrank as low as I possibly could in my chair. After a few seconds, though. I gathered courage to uncover one ear and peek through a half-open eye. That’s when I saw the expression of pure joy on my mom’s face. She was having so much fun that I couldn’t help smiling. My classmates clapped and cheered, and I heard someone say, “Wow! Arizona’s mother is pretty talented!”
My mom turned out to be very good at performing. She was also good at teaching us the song and the dance steps. too. We learned quickly. By the time of the fair, I was actually proud of her for putting herself out there for us kids. Our performance at the Winter Fair was a huge success. As we drove home, I said to my mom, “I’m really glad you volunteered to help my class with the performance.” My mom reached back and squeezed my hand. “Thanks for saying that. I can see why you might have been embarrassed, but I had such a great time.”

【答案】“Fine! Go play by yourself. I will play soccer,” Jenny shouted. After talking, Jenny ran to the grass to play soccer alone. She played soccer for a while, but she found herself very bored. Without Ella's cooperation, she lacked a lot of motivation. Ella was able to pass, control the ball and shoot perfectly, surprising her every time. She thought about it, maybe what Ella said was right, she should play on the playground equipment. After all, every time Ella would follow her own advice, which was unfair to her. She ran back and said. “Ella, as you said, we should play on the playground equipment.”
Ella’s face lit up when she heard what Jenny said. Ella couldn’t believe Jenny would follow her advice. It was the first time she had felt that her advice mattered. Jenny took Ella’s hand and ran happily to the playground equipment. They played happily, as if the unhappy things had never happened. They were still best friends.

【答案】As I continued walking, I began to reconsider my plan. At one moment, the boots I had been longing for flashed through my head. And then my Mum’s face appeared, drowned in sorrow, trying in vain to explain to us all why we should celebrate Christmas with no presents, no decorations or no turkey. At exactly that moment, it came to my awareness how selfish I was. Feeling the money in my sweaty hand, I made a big decision and stepped into the grocery store. Having finished shopping, I made my way home, excited and proud of my choice.
With great excitement and tears in my eyes, I knocked on the door. I could hardly wait to see my mother’s face! No sooner had I opened the door than some of the Christmas goodies fell inside onto the floor. She just stood there, dumbfounded. Holding back the tears, I said, “Merry Christmas!” Next moment, I was welcomed by the most passionate hugs and kisses from my beloved Mum.

【答案】However, I was assigned to pair up with Alex to design a poster. Reluctantly, we started working together. I was worried that working with Alex would be very difficult because of our previous relationship. But to my surprise, as the work progressed, we found that we shared many common interests. We put a lot of efforts into the drawings and texts, and finally we completed a quite outstanding poster. Alex seemed to forgive me. He appreciated my efforts and began to care about my feelings. The teacher highly praised our work and our classmates were amazed at the picture on the poster.
Alex proudly introduced that the fantastic picture was drawn by me. I smiled shyly but happily as my classmates crowned me and gave me a thumbs-up. Slowly but surely, I started feeling more comfortable in my new school. I made new friends, including Alex, and began to participate in activities in and after classes. By the end of the school year, I had fully adapted to the new environment. Moving to a new town was not only challenging, but it also opened up a world of opportunities and new experiences for me.

Then I took as many basketball training chances as I could find. In my spare time, I took basketball lessons to sharpen my shooting and passing skills. When the next summer came, I threw myself into basketball camps available as my mom had advised. Determined to solve the “out-of-breath” problem, I kept running every morning. Through these, my abilities grew, and I was finally in the shape necessary for tryouts. Over time, my determination didn’t only fuel my discipline, but also boosted my confidence. When taking part in the eighth-grade basketball tryouts, I was moderate, swift and strong. I completed each task with ease. As the results were posted, I found my name even topped the list, which gave me a true sense of self-satisfaction. Sure enough, the old saying “if at first you don’t succeed, try, try again” rang true.

【答案】 When I opened my door, I could hardly believe my eyes. The living room was decorated with bright Christmas lights and a small, beautifully decorated Christmas tree, just as Alice used to do every year. On the dining table, there was a warm breakfast laid out — milk, bread and fruits, all my favorites. Several children from the street were sitting quietly, smiling at me. “Uncle, we missed your Christmas breakfast,” one child said softly. Tears welled up in my eyes, feeling the warmth of family and love, even though Alice was gone.

【答案】Paragraph 1
Later that evening, a soft knock broke the silence on Emily’s door. “Emily, it’s Dad,” came the gentle voice from outside. Emily sat up, wiping away her tears. She opened the door, and her father walked in, carrying a glass of warm milk. He sat down on the edge of the bed and looked at her with kind eyes. “I know you’re feeling bad, honey,” he said softly. “Your mom was just worried about your grades. But I want you to know that I believe you. You’ve been working hard, and sometimes tests just don’t go as we expect. Can you tell me what happened during the exam?” Emily sniffled and started to pour out her feelings. She told her father how confused she was by the difficult problems and how hard she had tried. Her father listened attentively, nodding from time to time. “It’s okay,” he said when she finished. “We’ll figure it out together. Maybe we can find a tutor to help you with physics.”
Paragraph 2
The next morning, the atmosphere at home was tense (紧张的) and quiet. Emily walked into the kitchen slowly, avoiding eye contact with her mother. Her mother was standing by the stove, making breakfast. She looked up when Emily entered, and there was a hint of apology in her eyes. “Emily,” her mother said softly. “I’m sorry for getting angry last night. I should have listened to you. I know the test was hard, and you’ve been trying your best.” Emily was a bit surprised by her mother’s words. She felt a lump in her throat. “Mom, I’m sorry too. I should have managed my time better,” she said. Her mother walked over and gave her a hug. “Let’s work together to improve your grades, okay?” she said. Emily nodded, and a small smile finally appeared on her face. The tension in the air disappeared, replaced by a sense of warmth and understanding.

【答案】Just as Lily was about to sit down and rest, she heard a familiar voice calling her name. It was Mrs. Lee and two classmates! They’d noticed she was missing and turned back to look for her. Lily’s eyes lit up with relief as she ran over. “I found this puppy with a hurt paw,” she explained, holding it gently. Mrs. Lee praised her kindness and helped check the puppy’s paw. One classmate pulled out a water bottle to give the puppy a drink, and the other shared her trail mix. Lily opened her pie box and passed around the apple pies. The sweet smell filled the air, and everyone laughed as they ate. As they walked back together, the puppy curled up in Lily’s arms, and she no longer felt lonely. She realized that even without Mia, sharing kindness and snacks could bring new friends.

【答案】I walked over and offered to help. As we worked, I mentioned our Christmas tree and how much I admired her ornaments. She smiled warmly and invited me into her home. To my surprise, she had a box filled with extra ornaments that she no longer used. She handed it to me with a kind smile, saying, "Here, take these. I hope they'll make your tree just as beautiful as mine." With tears in my eyes, I thanked her profusely. That evening, our tree was finally complete, and it was truly a sight to behold. Our third friend had helped us create a Christmas we would never forget.

My parents do a lot of embarrassing things! Usually, it’s my dad who sings silly songs or tells jokes around my friends. But a few weeks ago, it was my mother who played the embarrassing-parent role.
While my mom and I were shopping, we ran into my teacher, who mentioned the school didn’t have a music teacher to help our class put together a performance for Winter Fair. And, then my mom said, “I know the perfect song and dance. I’ll teach it to the kids!”
Before I could say “Please don’t”, my mom had agreed to come to my class every morning at 9:30 for a week. Oh, and just to be clear, it’s not as if she’s a professional entertainer. My parents run a small grocery store, and the only singing my mom does is in the shower.
“Mom,” I said on our way home, “Are you sure this is such a good idea?” “Of course!” she said. “If we want your school Winter Fair to happen, people need to step up and volunteer.” She laughed, “We will have fun!”
“OK, kids!” my teacher said at 9:28 on Monday. “We’re going to stop silent reading a little early today because a special guest is here to help us with a performance for Winter Fair. Let’s all welcome Arizona’s mother.”
I looked up to discover my mom standing in the front of the room wearing the world’s silliest hat. “I’m super excited to be here with you!” my mom said, “I’m going to teach you a fun little song-and-dance performance I learned a few years ago. Here goes!” Oh please, oh please, I said over and over in my head, let there be a fire drill, or a power failure, or anything to stop my mom from completely embarrassing herself-and me!
But apparently, my mom was not at all concerned about looking silly. She turned on some background music and started singing and dancing away.

Ella and Jenny were best friends. They had known each other since Jenny moved next door three years ago. They hung out almost every day after school, exploring the world around them. They had a lot of fun, but like any friends, they sometimes had disagreements because they were very different people.
Ella was a hardworking girl who did well in her school work, loved reading books, and took ballet classes. On the other hand, Jenny was outgoing. She would rather play soccer, chat with classmates at school, and couldn’t sit still long enough to finish reading a story book. In spite of their differences, they always found a way to have fun together.
Usually, they would play together at the park across the street. They would play on the sports equipment, race around the playground, or play soccer with a group of kids in their neighborhood. On rainy days, they would go in one of their houses to make artworks, play video games, or paint each other’s nails. They could spend hours and hours together.
While most days were filled with laughter and shared adventures, there were times when they couldn’t agree on what to do. One day, Ella wanted to play on the playground equipment, while Jenny preferred soccer on the freshly-cut grass.
Ella suggested they should play on the equipment as they had already played soccer for three days. However, Jenny, with her eyes shining eagerly, argued that they should play soccer because the grass in the field had just been cut and it was nice and short.
“We always do what you want to do, Jenny. Can’t we try something different for once?” said Ella, feeling upset.

It was in the 1930s, and things were tough. Mum had a hard time raising us on her own in our small community of New Westminster, BC. My dad had drowned in Pitt Lake, five years ago.
Looking back, I realize what Mum went through sending us kids to school. Every morning she would put a new piece of cardboard in our shoes, because the bottom parts were worn out. When we got home, Mum would have “French toast” ready for us. Constant moving was typical for my family in those times. Rent was 25 dollars a month, but Mum couldn’t pay it, and we knew we would be evicted right after Christmas on the first of January.
Christmas was approaching, and we were entitled to a twenty-five-dollar Christmas fund from social services. The inspector came to our house, and searched it from top to bottom to be sure we didn’t have any food hidden away. When he didn’t find any, he issued the cheque to Mum.
Mum said that instead of buying food, she would use the 25 dollars to pay back rent, assuring all of us a roof over our heads for a little while longer. She told us then there would be nothing for Christmas.
Unknown to Mum, I had been selling Christmas tree, cleaning snow, and doing part-time jobs to earn enough money to buy a new pair of boots. Boots that weren’t patched, boots with no cardboard in the soles. I knew exactly which boots I wanted. They were ten-inch Top Genuine Pierre Paris and they had a price of 23 dollars.
Well, the big day came on the afternoon of Christmas Eve. I was excited, as I hurried up the road to the shoe store, but on the way I noticed a house with Christmas lights and decorations. It was then I realized at our house, we had no lights, no decorations, nor any money for Christmas meals. I knew that we would have no turkey or ham for Christmas, and I felt sad.

It took a day’s drive, but distance was beside the point. I always enjoyed long journeys in my father’s car with my family. However, things went different that time. We were moving to a new town, not for any tourist destination, but to settle down, for my father had a new job there. My mother, sitting on the passenger seat in the front, was talking with my father. She looked excited for the coming new life. But I was down, feeling nervous about starting a new school life. Entering a new school meant adapting to a completely different environment and meeting new classmates and teachers, which I was not good at.
On my first day at the new school, I felt lost and out of place. The students already knew each other well, and they chatted happily during breaks. I missed my old friends terribly and wished I could go back to my old school. Feeling lonely. I often spent time alone during breaks and after classes, reading books in the library or drawing pictures in the art room. I missed the good days I had with my old friends and longed for that sense of belonging.
As the days went by, I still found it hard to fit in. I was shy and found it difficult to strike up conversations with my classmates. Some of the kids in my class noticed my discomfort and tried to be friendly, but I couldn’t shake off the feeling of being an outsider. I only had words with my desk mate, Alex, when necessary. Things took a turn for the worse when I knocked off Alex’s water bottle by accident, although I picked up the bottle immediately and apologized to him. He got mad at me and seemed not to forgive me. Soon I found we were avoiding each other.

In the quiet town of Willowbrook, where autumn leaves turned the streets gold, lived a young girl named Lily. At fourteen, she was neither the tallest nor the most athletic girl in her class, but her spirit burned brighter than any campfire under the starry sky. Lily had a dream — a dream to climb the ancient oak tree in her grandmother’s garden, a tree so tall that it seemed to touch the heavens. This tree, known as the “Guardian (守护者) of Willowbrook”, had stood for centuries. Its branches were a silent witness to countless stories of victory and defeat.
Lily’s great interest in the tree began when she was just a little girl. She would sit beneath its large base, staring up at the astonishing heights, imagining resting among the leaves, feeling the wind tell secrets in her ear. But every time she tried to climb, fear would hold her heart fast, and she would draw back, promising herself she’d try again tomorrow.
One cold morning in early October, Lily decided that tomorrow had finally arrived. She determined not to let anything annoy her. Her best friend, Max, a boy with a talent for adventure and a heart as brave as a lion, accompanied her. Max had climbed the Guardian countless times, but he was never tired of watching others overcome their fears.
“Ready?” Max asked, as they stood at the base of the tree.
Lily nodded, her knees shaking slightly. She took a deep breath, reached for the first big branch, and pulled herself up. The tree was rough against her hands, and her muscles hurt with every move. But Lily kept going. She thought only about the next branch and then the next, ignoring the pain in her arms and her racing heart. Halfway up, she felt the treetops waving at her.

Taking a deep breath, Lily summoned all her courage and continued climbing. With each determined step, she inched closer to her dream. Thin, ordinary, and undisciplined (缺乏自律的), I was the underdog (弱者) of the boys’ basketball tryouts (选拔赛) in seventh grade. Making the team was very important to me. Although I was extremely nervous, I truly thought I would make the team. But I was too optimistic, and quickly faced a real test.
When on the court (球场), I was breathless like an old man; clearly, I was out of shape and having trouble keeping up. When it hit me that this was only the first day, and that there was a second to follow, I realized I would have to face it to gain a place on the team.
Unfortunately, day two went exactly like day one: I missed shots, passed badly like an out-of-breath fool. Hoping the coach was not watching all my bad moves, I had trouble keeping a positive attitude. Finally, Coach posted the lists of the Boys A and B Teams. Everybody quickly ran to see the chosen few.
After scanning the list once, twice, three times, my name was nowhere. With my head hanging, I knew this experience had not gone as I planned.
On the way home, I complained, “How could that foolish boy is a better choice than me? And…”
“Adam!” my mom stopped me. “Why don’t you realize maybe you need a little more practice? You’d better go to basketball camps next summer. ”
Mom’s words resonated with(共鸣) me. I realized that failing to make the team was nobody’s fault but mine and I had to make changes to be admitted in the eighth-grade basketball tryouts.

【答案】例文

Until last year, the saddest thing of my life was that my wife Alice and I had no children. So we always invited all the children in our street to our house for Christmas breakfast.
Last year, Alice died. I was very sad and decided not to invite the children for Christmas breakfast. But Kathy and Peter, my next door neighbors, asked me to join them for dinner on Christmas Eve.
As soon as I arrived, Kathy asked me, “Do you have any milk at your house?” “Yes.” I replied. “If you need some, I’ll go and get it right away.”
“Oh, that’s OK. Come and sit down. Just give Peter the key and let him get it.” said Kathy. Then I soon joined in the children’s laughing and running. Before I knew it, Peter came back with a bottle of milk in his hand.
The smell of the meal filled the room. We sat together and enjoyed the wonderful moment. Time flew between jokes. After a happy dinner, I said goodbye to them. With colorful and beautiful holiday lights shining outside, I headed home.

The heavy rain was beating hard against the window, matching the sadness in Emily’s heart. She sat on the school bus, looking down at her physics test paper. The big red “65” at the top seemed to shout at her, a clear sign of her poor performance. She had tried to study, but during the exam, all the math problems became too difficult to understand. The whole way home, she kept thinking, “What will Mom say? She always expects me to do well.”
When she walked into the warm, bright house, she could smell dinner cooking. Usually, this made her happy, but today it didn’t. Her mother was in the kitchen and quickly noticed that Emily looked sad. “How was your physics test, honey?” she asked, sounding hopeful. Emily slowly handed her the test paper.
Her mother’s face changed. “Sixty-five?” she said, her voice becoming louder and unhappy. “Emily, your grades are going down! I saw you spending too much time on your phone last week. That’s the problem!” Tears came to Emily’s eyes. “Mom, it wasn’t because of the phone! The test was just really difficult, and…” “No more explanations!” her mother said, sounding angry. “Give me your phone now. You can’t use it until your next test!”
Feeling that her mother didn’t understand her, Emily shouted, “You never listen to me!” Then she ran to her room and closed the door with a loud noise. She lay on her bed, crying. Soon, she heard her parents talking in the living room. Her father’s voice was calm and kind. “Let’s talk about this later,” he said. “She feels bad enough already. We should help her, not just be angry with her.”

Lily had been looking forward to the school’s autumn hike for weeks. She’d packed her favorite snack — homemade apple pies, a gift from her grandma — and planned to share them with her best friend Mia. However, when she arrived at the meeting spot, Mia didn’t show up. “Mia’s sick and won’t come,” their teacher Mrs. Lee told Lily softly. Lily’s heart sank; she clutched the pie box tightly, feeling a little lonely.
The hike started, and Lily walked behind the group, staring at her shoes. Suddenly, she heard a small whimper. She stopped and looked around — under a maple tree, a tiny puppy with matted fur was trembling. Lily knelt down gently. The puppy nuzzled her hand, and she noticed it had a hurt paw. “Poor thing,” she whispered, taking out a clean handkerchief from her bag to wrap around its paw. Just then, the group moved farther away, and Lily realized she’d gotten lost. The sun was starting to set, painting the sky orange. Lily held the puppy in one arm and the pie box in the other, feeling scared but determined not to cry.

It was our first winter in Chicago. Just as the animals were hibernating (冬眠), it seemed that so were our new neighbors. As newcomers, we felt alone.
Then something happened. It all began with a simple request from our eight-year-old daughter. “Mommy, let's put up a Christmas tree at home. ”
At first, we didn't pay too much attention to this request, for we had never put up a Christmas tree. But my daughter's repeated request made us go ahead with this first step: loaded with layers of clothing to fight the unfamiliar cold, we tasked ourselves with finding a tree for our daughter.
When we finally selected our tree, we realized we didn't have a car big enough to get it home. Of course, we had not considered that. It was our first time. We had no choice but to carry it home. We had walked only a few steps when a gentleman in our neighborhood stopped his truck and offered us a ride home. Our first friend.
The Christmas tree was propped up (支起) in our living area but it was too dark. We needed Christmas lights! So, the next evening, we went to a store and asked for lights. The storekeeper, who, after getting over the surprise of our seemingly silly questions, explained to us that we needed multi-colored lights. Thanking the kind soul, we left with our lights and his warmth. Our second friend.
That night, we carefully wound the lights around the tree and excitedly held our breaths for the beauty of the first glow. Still, it looked like something was missing: small ornaments (装 饰) . Where would we get them? One lady across the street had a breathtaking tree carefully placed in a window for all to see. Every night, I stood behind the curtain, spending unnatural amounts of time studying the bells and whistles in her tree.
