(25-26高一上·福建莆田第二中学·期中)Speeding up and flying over a car while switching hands with a between-the-legs movement to throw the ball home, Chen Dengxing, aged 39 and standing 1.76 meters tall, made history by becoming the first athlete from China to win the dunk (扣篮) contest of the world’s biggest streetball competition in 2025.
Chen showed athletic talent from childhood and trained in high jump and long jump in his school years. After graduating from college, he began working as a bank clerk. But his passion for dunk never died away. So in his spare time, he’d go to a nearby court for dunk practice.
The turning point of his life came in 2011 at an amateur dunk contest, where Cha Tianyi, founder of China’s dunk team told him, “With your bounce and explosiveness, you don’t belong behind a bank counter.” Cha’s encouragement and guidance set him on the path to becoming a professional dunker.
To improve his dunking skills, Chen collected highlight videos of top dunkers from around the world and studied them carefully. Erom the pace of the approach steps to the power of the takeoff, he analyzed every detail with precision — leaving no movement unexplored. He spent about four hours in training every day — two hours of strength training and two hours of dunk practice. Even when he was out attending other events, he carried a basketball and practiced.
Now Chen has founded a dunk park which has quickly attracted many visitors who are eager to learn from him or simply witness his high-flying skills firsthand. “I will pass on my training methods and competition experience, so that the younger athletes can progress faster. My goal is to make more promising dunkers and help them step onto the international stage,” Chen said.
1.What is the first paragraph mainly about?
A. Chen’s great achievement.
B. The rules of the dunk contest.
C. Chen’s physical appearance.
D. The history of the dunk contest.
2.What does Chen’s career shift show?
A. Risk-taking guarantees success.
B. Opportunities favor prepared mind.
C. Actions speak louder than words.

3.Which of the following best describes Chen in his professional training?
A. Generous and sincere.
B. Focused and devoted.
C. Determined and brave.
D. Patient and ambitious.
4.Why did Chen set up a dunk park?

D. To meet followers.
【答案】1. A 2. B 3. B 4. C

Passage 1
(25-26高一上·江西莲花中学·期中)I was never very neat, while my roommate Kate was extremely organized. Each of her objects had its place, but mine always hid somewhere. She even labeled (贴标签) everything. I always looked for everything. Over time, Kate got neater and I got messier. She would push my dirty clothing over, and I would lay my books on her tidy desk. We both got tired of each other.
War broke out one evening. Kate came into the room. Soon, I heard her screaming, “Take your shoes away! Why under my bed!” Deafened, I saw my shoes flying at me. I jumped to my feet and started yelling. She yelled back louder.
The room was filled with anger. We could not have stayed together for a single minute but for a phone call. Kate answered it. From her end of the conversation, I could tell right away her grandma was seriously ill. When she hung up, she quickly crawled (爬) under her covers, sobbing. Obviously, that was something she should not go through alone. All of a sudden, a warm feeling of sympathy rose up in my heart.
Slowly, I collected the pencils, took back the books, made my bed, cleaned the socks and swept the floor, even on her side. I got so into my work that I even didn’t notice Kate had sat up. She was watching, her tears dried and her expression one of disbelief. Then, she reached out her hands to grasp mine. I looked up into her eyes. She smiled at me, “Thanks. ”

Passage 2
(25-26高一上·湖北襄阳第四中学·期中)Bike Batman is a 30-year-old married engineer who lives in Seattle, Washington. He’s a cyclist who also buys and sells bikes as a hobby.
About three years ago, he was looking for a bike for his wife. He found one on Craigslist, a website where people list things they want to sell. As he often did, he also looked at Bike Index, a popular website that allows users to register their bikes and post reports when they’re taken. The bike, which he was considering purchasing, clearly matched one reported stolen on Bike Index. Then he called the person who claimed (声称) to be the bike’s owner and arranged to meet him — supposedly to complete the sale. When the two men met, Batman told the thief, “You’ve got two options. You can wait until a police officer gets here, or you can just get out of here.” You can imagine what the thief did.
After that first success, Bike Batman developed a safer routine. When he sees questionable bike ads on Craigslist, he cross-references the image with bikes reported on Bike Index. Once he has checked and confirmed (确认) it with the owner, he arranges a meet-up with the thief and will call the Seattle police department so that officers can participate in the action. In more than half of the 22 cases in which he has got back and returned bikes, the thieves have been arrested (逮捕). In one case, Bike Batman even helped a family recover a wide range of prized possessions that suspects (嫌疑犯) had stolen during a home burglary (入室盗窃).
His nickname came from a discussion with a police officer who suggested he be called “Robin Hood”. Since he wasn’t exactly stealing from the rich and giving to the poor, “Batman” seemed a better fit. The idea of a superhero punishing criminals (罪犯) feels pretty silly to him, but the main reason he continues his work is to keep up Seattle’s fame as a friendly city.
1.What will Bike Batman first do when discovering a questionable bike?
A. He’ll contact the real bike owner.
B. He’ll arrange to meet the thief.
C. He’ll call the police department.
D. He’ll look up the bike’s information.
2.What does the underlined word “cross-reference” in paragraph 3 probably mean?
A. Compare. B. Post. C. Provide. D. Beautify.
3.Bike Batman helps find the lost bikes to __________.
A. become famous
B. help poor people
C. punish bike thieves
D. build a harmonious city
4.What can we learn from the passage?
A. The police failed to perform their duties.
B. He found it silly to see the thieves arrested.
C. Bike Batman began his good actions by accident.
D. The thieves were usually unwilling to return the bikes.
【答案】1. D 2. A 3. D 4. C

Passage 3
(25-26高一上·河北唐山开滦第一中学·期中)My good friend, George, was influenced by his parents, who are some of the best examples of giving, whether they get paid or not.
When I was a little child, I joined George and his mom in going to Erin’s house, bringing food and daily supplies with us. Obviously, Erin’s family faced economic trouble and could hardly afford food. George and I took several bags of things to the door, rang the bell and ran off. Erin still doesn’t know to this day who did that. Since then, I’ve always given whatever I could afford to help the people in need.
You never knew what my act would lead the people in need to do. A few years ago, I came across a homeless man begging for money to get bread at a bus stop. I could have ignored him, but I felt sorry for him and pulled out my wallet. I only had $ 20 in my hand. I was just a college student. However, I handed him the money, and he promised me that he’d find a job to make a living. When I got on the bus, he smiled at me and said,“I’ll remember you forever!”I also smiled. It totally made my day, and I would also never forget his face. Later, I lent my phone to one boy to call his family and managed to help his worried mother find a job online.
Though an act of kindness toward anyone can seem like no big deal to me and cost me nearly nothing, I believe in the effects it can have on other people. Hopefully, they still have faith in humanity. It’s the kind of interaction that is more valuable than money. Since doing good is within our power, let’s help out more.
1.What made the author start helping others?
A. The request from Erin.
B. The request from George’s parents.
C. His childhood experience of doing good with George.
D. His past experience of giving money to the homeless.
2.How does the author develop paragraph 3?
A. By giving reasons.
B. By giving examples.
C. By making suggestions.
D. By making comparisons.
3.What is the author’s purpose in writing the last paragraph?
A. To call on people to do good.
B. To explain doing good costs nothing.
C. To advise people to remember others’ help.
D. To show interaction is as valuable as money.
4.What is the best title for the text?
A. Give to Get Paid
B. Try to Make My Day
C. A Big Deal with the Honest
D. The Power of Kindness
【答案】1. C 2. B 3. A 4. D

Passage 4
(25-26高一上·河北沧州泊头市八县·期中)Thanks to a high school robotics team, a tiny dog named Kanga-Roo who lost her front two legs at birth is walking on her own.
The tiny dog, called “Roo” for short, first made news when she was dropped off at the Heart of Louisiana Humane Society in late 2023. Without her front legs, she had to adapt (适应) to jumping on her back legs for moving around. So the Steel Eagles Robotics Team at Holy Savior Menard Central High School in Louisiana put their minds to work and began building a special type of wheelchair that gives Roo two wheels in place of her front legs. For the students, seeing their design work in real life was an exciting experience.
The team fitted Roo with her first wheelchair in October 2023 using a 3D printer. The dog ran into trouble while learning how to walk in the new setup, but she has adapted well. She has already outgrown her first wheelchair and is working on her second. The team will keep building new sizes until Roo is fully grown.
The students and the Humane Society members have been working to teach Roo how to use her wheelchair. While she hasn’t mastered it yet, she is getting close. “She was scared at first but she’s getting more comfortable in it and it has become a lot easier for her to move freely,” the organization’s president, Kristy Royall, said. “It’s wonderful to see technology used in such a caring way,” she added.
Kanga-Roo’s wheelchair is one of many projects the Steel Eagles Robotics Team has built for people or animals in need. According to coach Tonya Shepard, it is their goal to contribute to (做贡献) the community and do things that are actually helpful to the community.
1.What did the robotics team do for the dog Roo?
A. They built a comfortable shelter for her.
B. They taught her how to jump with back legs.
C. They designed a movable wheelchair for her.
D. They provided medical treatment for her legs.
2.What does the underlined word “outgrown” in paragraph 3 mean?
A. Become larger than.
B. Got tired of.
C. Made use of.
D. Looked forward to.
3.What does the author think of the team’s effort?
A. It is challenging.
B. It is meaningful.
C. It is under-recognized.
D. It is experimental.
4.Why does the robotics team undertake projects like Roo’s wheelchair?
A. To win robotics competitions.
B. To gain experience in animal care.
C. To improve their 3D printing skills.
D. To give back to their community.
【答案】1. C 2. A 3. B 4. D

Passage 5
(25-26高一上·河北沧州泊头市八县·期中)Sammie Vance was just named one of PEOPLE’s Girls Changing the World, and she is only 12 years old. The seventh grader from Indiana is collecting bottle caps to make them into buddy benches (伙伴长椅) for her school and neighborhood parks. But these benches are more than just for sitting; they’re to help kids find friends.
Sammie learned about buddy benches at a camp she attended one summer. At the camp there were benches set up for when a child felt lonely; they would sit down, which means that they are in need of a friend.
She said, “I’m like, ‘This would be really cool to have at my school.’” Then she sprang into action by meeting with her headmaster to present her idea.
Sammie used a cartoon picture that she created to show how a simple bench could help classmates understand when one of their own needed a friend. The adults were surely impressed by her idea but were also impressed with how she planned on making the benches.
Sammie and her mom Heidi found a company called Green Tree Plastics that could turn recycled (回收利用的) plastic caps into benches. These recycled benches cost much less than normal park benches and are good for the environment according to Sammie’s website.
Then, she got to work and held a community-wide event, asking members to donate (捐赠) their old bottle caps. The event alone collected 1,600 pounds (725 kilograms) of caps and with that, she created three benches for her school.
Sammie continued her efforts and enlarged her project to create more benches. Now officially called Sammie’s Buddy Bench Project, the project has a Facebook page for others to follow her journey and make bottle cap donations.
Today, Sammie has set up 200 recycled benches in schools, neighborhoods and even local community centers. She has no plans of stopping. “For me, it’s seeing people who need a friend — whether they’re 8 or 80 — because I’ve been lonely myself. I don’t want others to feel that way,” she told PEOPLE.
1.What caused Sammie to start the project?
A. Her wish to win a national prize.
B. Her personal experience at a camp.

(25-26高一上·湖北利川第一中学·期中)After a long teaching day, I saw someone searching for a lost key between the seats on a crowded bus. Strangely, my first thought was to ask ChatGPT. This surprised me and made me wonder: What did I think of AI? Could it really help?
Since ChatGPT appeared, teachers have different views. At first, I found it very useful. It offered me lesson ideas and saved me time. Students used it to understand difficult topics and get writing tips.
But I noticed problems. One student couldn’t remember facts ChatGPT gave him. Another used it to make his writing look smarter, but lost his own style. Using AI for work meant students missed chances to improve their own ideas by revising. I told them: Use AI to help improve your writing, not to do it for you.
I also started using pen and paper more for lesson planning. It was slower, but my ideas felt more real and truly mine. This reminded me that the process of thinking is often more important than just the final result. And as a result, I’d managed to think more clearly.
In a world increasingly led by speed, I learned the best ideas often need time and focus. I’m not against AI, but I need to adjust (调节) its role in my life. My goal is to keep what’s important in teaching: curiosity, critical thinking, and solving problems without always taking shortcuts. I hope my students will, too.
1.What did the author do when seeing someone looking for a key on the bus?
A. He reported it to the police.
B. He joined in the search for it.
C. He turned a blind eye to it.

A. To tell they are smart.
B. To tell how AI helps them.
C. To show the problems AI brings.
D. To prove his teaching job successful.

A. It wasted too much of his time.
B. It was good for his thinking.
C. It allowed him to get answers quickly.
D. It led to losing good teaching methods.
4.What is the author’s attitude towards using AI?
A. Careful. B. Hopeless. C. Unclear. D. Negative.

Passage 1
(25-26高一上·福建漳州第一中学-11月·期中)This year, I did something I’d never done — shopping at midnight on Black Friday after Thanksgiving. After all, you can get great deals online from the comfort of your bed over a hot cup of coffee. So why would I stand in traffic, cold weather, and crowds for a few bargains (特价商品)?
For my teenagers, spending time with Mum is usually down on their list next to homework and picking up the dog waste. So, when they asked me to take them shopping at the mall at midnight on Black Friday, my first reaction (反应) was surely no! But my son, who usually runs the other way if I mention shopping, wanted me to take him shopping. I felt needed, though I knew it was my wallet and a ride, not quality (高质量的) time with Mum that they wanted.
Then the hour-long car ride. We followed songs on the radio and talked about the deals we hoped to get. I had chances to give them lessons on what not to do when driving, but I had to keep the peace. And we all connected as we sat with crazed smiles at midnight.
The kids were excited once we finally reached the busy parking lot. There was something about standing in a line that snaked around the building in the freezing cold that brought people together. Once inside, we had to work as a team, hoping to come together with just the right size and colour. As I dug through mountains of clothing for a special shirt for my husband and gave up, my daughter came towards me, shirt in hand and victory on her face. “I got the last one!”
So we ended up at 3 a.m. with some bargains. Nothing we couldn’t have found online or in stores at a reasonable hour. But for me, I got quality time with my kids. Driving home tired, looking in the mirror at my children’s sweet faces, I decided, “If they ask me to again next year, I’m in.”
1.What did the kids need to do according to the author?
A. Buy things online with comfort.
B. Take a cup of coffee comfortably.

A. She had worked as a team member.

Passage 2
(25-26高一上·福建莆田第一中学·期中)The pupils in Paula Merrigan’s kindergarten (幼儿园) class often call her Mom, or sometimes even Grandma, partly because Merrigan ensures all the children are greeted with a big smile when they enter the classroom in the morning. She works with every single one of them one-on-one at some point during the day, and she’s generous with praise, hugs, and affection.
“When small children tell you they love you, say it back to them,” said the teacher. “It’s important for every child to feel their teacher cares about them and that school is always a secure place to stay. When they know you truly care about them, they want to do their best for you, because they’re seeking your approval.”
Merrigan also lets the children tell her their stories to learn what they’re passionate about. “When you learn about certain things they like and tie them to your topic, they love it,” she said. “Maybe the children told you that they really like dinosaurs so when you’re teaching the letter ‘D’, you create a dinosaur art project to go with it.”
Given that separation anxiety hits many youngsters hard when they enter the kindergarten classroom, how children feel at the beginning of their schooling can set the tone for the rest of their academic life, experts say. “This is important for little ones because this is often the first time that they’re experiencing formal education,” said Hedy Chang, executive director of Attendance Works, a nonprofit working to boost student attendance. “What happens during this time can help lay the foundation for social and academic success.”
Researchers found students of all ages who miss an excessive amount of school often suffer from mental issues. They may need to feel nurtured, experts say. “To the degree that parents keep kids home from school because the kids say they don’t want to go,” said Deborah Stipek, an expert from Stanford University, “children’s relationship with the teacher should be an important factor.” Merrigan, who herself remembers faking being sick a few times as a child, couldn’t agree more.
1.What is Merrigan’s class like?
A. Warm, supportive, and engaging.
B. Comfortable, quiet and test-score-driven.
C. Loving and teacher-centered.
D. Caring and focused on personal work.
2.Why does Merrigan listen to her students’ personal stories?
A. To learn about children’s behavior patterns.
B. To help with exact grading and assessments (评价).
C. To easily manage possible classroom differences.
D. To make her students more focused on her lessons.
3.What is the best title for the passage?

C. Creative Kindergarten Teaching Methods.
D. Developing Emotional Connections in Kindergartens.

Passage 1
(25-26高一上·浙江丽水发展共同体-11月·期中)For all my seventeen years, New York City has been my home. It’s a place of energy, though often seen as cold and distant. Yet, personal connections can still happen here.
One cold November, my high school soccer team was heading home to Manhattan after a game in the Bronx. Twenty of us piled onto the D train, loud and full of energy, filling the car with our talking and laughter. To pass the time on the long ride, we started singing loudly, our excitement making up for our lack of musical talent.
Our noise was met with mostly unhappy looks from the other passengers. Then, an old homeless man with worn-out clothes and a calm and respectful manner entered the car. He announced he would sing a few songs. While most people ignored him, we watched closely.
He began with “Joy to the World.” His strong and clear voice was so moving that we found ourselves joining in. The atmosphere (气氛) in the car changed; people who had been keeping to themselves now listened, enjoying this special moment. He sang a few more songs, including one of his own, and was met with applause.
For his final song, he chose “God Bless America.” This time, not just our group, but everyone in the car joined in singing. The powerful, united singing drew people from other subway cars to ours. I saw a woman holding a baby, singing with tears streaming down her cheeks.
In that moment, a group of strangers — reserved New Yorkers, high school girls, and a homeless man — came together through songs, allowing our voices and hearts to become one. It is a moment whose power will stay with me forever.

3.How did the atmosphere change after the old man started singing?
A. It remained largely unchanged.
B. It became more silent and serious.

Passage 2
(25-26高一上·江西师范大学附属中学-11月·期中)On my way back home I was stopped at a traffic light by some people who asked for help. A woman—in her attempt to give way to an ambulance—had driven her car over stony obstacles that separated the bike line from the street, and had gotten her car stuck as a result. She couldn't move the car in any direction without damaging it. A couple of people tried to lift the car back but the obstacles were too high. Seeing that they couldn't do much about it, they left and the woman in the car tried to call for some service.
While watching the other people leave, I realized the woman would be on her own and I imagined how uncomfortable that would be if I were in her shoes. After some talking, she understood what my purpose was and invited me to sit inside her car. She called for service and was told that it would take about 45 minutes for someone to get there.
I wasn't in a hurry, so I informed my partner about the situation and that I would be later and then tried to comfort the woman who seemed to feel stressed about causing others trouble. But actually it wasn't too much trouble since they could still pass, and also there wasn't anything she could do about it anyway. We laughed and joked that all we needed was some tea for our picnic.
Finally assistance came and helped her back on the street. She thanked me and asked for my phone number so she could return the favor, but I told her it was okay. She seemed to feel much better when we said our goodbyes. I believe that not having to face a difficult situation alone can make a difference.

A. Her car hit stony obstacles.
B. Her car got stuck in the street.
C. Her car hit a couple of people.

B. The woman was afraid to damage her car.
C. They couldn't move the car because of the high obstacles.
D. They couldn't leave things as they were until the police arrived.
3.What's the author's purpose inside the woman's car?
A. To help fix her car.
B. To help drive her car.
C. To share some tea with her.

Passage 3
(25-26高一上·福建龙岩一校盟·期中)People start new businesses for different reasons. Sometimes they have a great idea. Other times, they decide to make a living by doing something they enjoy. For Eli Reich, his business began when someone stole his bike bag.
Reich was an engineer in Seattle. Because he cared about the environment, he biked to work every day. He carried his work and his laptop in a bike bag. When someone took his bag, he tried to buy a new one. But he couldn’t find one he liked. So he decided to make his own. Riding a bike every day leads to lots of tire punctures. As a result, he had plenty of used inner tubes in his apartment. Inner tubes are the inside part of a bike tire. They are soft, flexible, and feel like leather; they are also waterproof, so things inside won’t get wet even on rainy days, which are all perfect qualities for a bag.
His friends loved his new bag. Soon, his bike bag was in great demand. Reich quit his job and started his own business-Alchemy Goods. At first, he depended on his friends for inner tubes. But business was good, and he quickly ran short of these tubes. He needed a new supply. So he asked local bike stores to send him used inner tubes instead of throwing them away. To date, he has used over 300,000 inner tubes.
Each bag uses as many recycled products as possible. Reich’s goal is to use 100 percent recycled materials. Reich emphasizes that he uses recycled materials, but he creates high-quality products. Recycling turns waste into reusable things. Upcycling transforms waste into a better quality product. Alchemy Goods bags are not cheap. Each bag is handmade. Using recycled materials keeps the cost down, but labor is expensive. Each bag sells for around $130.
Creating a business out of other people’s trash is a growing trend. Reich joins thousands of small business owners who are taking advantage of the trash that Americans throw away every year.
1.Why did Reich start his business?
A. His concern for the environment.
B. The theft of his bike bag.
C. His dislike of his engineering job.
D. His friends’ encouragement.
2.The underlined word “waterproof” probably means ________.
A. easy to wash
B. simple to make
C. quick to dry
D. able to keep water out
3.Where does Reich get most of his materials now?
A. From his friends.
B. From new factories.
C. From local bike stores.
D. From his own collection.
4.What can we learn about Reich’s bags?
A. They are high-quality and handmade.
B. They are cheap and mass-produced.
C. They are mainly sold to his friends.
D. They are made from 100% recycled materials.
【答案】1. B 2. D 3. C 4. A

Passage 5
(25-26高一上·福建顺昌县第一中学·期中)Crowded by defenders, Charlie Villanueva, one hand lifting the ball high, jump toward the basket. For a moment, he seems to hang in the air. Then, he pushes the ball down through the basket — a slam dunk (扣篮)! His career may look like a slam dunk, being a national champion at the University of Connecticut, and setting beginner records with the Toronto Raptors.
However, life wasn’t always easy for him. His success comes not only from his basketball skills but also from how he dealt with a skin disease called alopecia areata (斑秃), which isn’t infectious. It happens when the body’s immune system goes wrong and attacks its own hair-growing cells. Charlie was affected at age 10 and lost all his hair by age 12. This made him a target for bullying (欺凌), leading him to shut away from others and hide under caps and hoods.
With the support of his mother, Charlie found refuge in basketball. He turned his depression and stress into motivation, improving his skills to the point where his gift became more important than his condition. The bullying stopped, and his basketball career took off.
All along the way, Charlie has continuously applied himself to helping others. Ever since his first year as a new player, he has served as a spokesperson for the National Alopecia Areata Foundation, and went on to set up the Charlie Villanueva Foundation, an organization aimed at supporting families with children suffering from alopecia and stopping all forms of bullying. As the son of immigrants from the Dominican Republic, he has even worked towards ending poverty in that country.
Charlie encourages young people to accept their individuality and have confidence in themselves. “We’re all unique in our own ways,” he says, encouraging them to remember that with dedication and self-belief, any dream is within reach.

Passage 6
(25-26高一上·湖北利川第一中学·期中)Jane Goodall is a name deeply connected with wildlife protection. Her groundbreaking work, which began in 1960 in Tanzania’s Gombe Stream National Park, completely changed scientists’ ideas about how smart animals are and what makes humans unique. Without a college degree at first, Goodall used great patience and an open mind to study chimpanzees (黑猩猩). She didn’t see them just as animals, but as individuals with their own personalities, feelings, and social lives.
A key moment came when a chimpanzee she named David Greybeard allowed her to watch him closely. She saw him change a twig (小枝) by removing its leaves and use it to “fish” for termites (白蚁). This was an important discovery because, at that time, scientists believed only humans could make and use tools. This finding challenged the idea that humans were completely different from other animals. As the well-known anthropologist (人类学家) Louis Leakey said, it forced science to rethink the definition of “human.”
Over time, Goodall formed close friendships with the chimpanzees, especially with a mother named Flo and her family. These strong personal connections allowed her to see into their world and deeply understand their family life and social behavior. Her unusual path — earning a PhD from Cambridge University without first getting a bachelor’s degree — showed her strong devotion. Knowing she needed to do more, she started the Jane Goodall Institute (JGI) in 1977. This organization leads global protection efforts and runs youth programs like “Roots & Shoots,” while also supporting women in science.
Jane Goodall’s legacy (传承) goes far beyond her scientific discoveries. She showed the world that animals have complex emotions and intelligence, which helps people respect nature more. Even into her nineties, she continued to encourage people to protect wildlife and the environment around them. Through her life’s work, Goodall taught us that understanding and valuing other species is important for the health of our planet and for our own humanity.
1.Why is Jane Goodall’s work called “groundbreaking”?
A. Changed views on animal intelligence.
B. Proved all animals use tools.
C. Created new research methods.
D. Showed women can be scientists.
2.How did Goodall discover chimpanzees using tools?
A. By reviewing existing theories.
B. By doing experiments.
C. By watching David Greybeard.
D. By contacting local guides.
3.What does Goodall’s bond with Flo show?
A. Long-term studies are effective.
B. Tool usage requires long learning.
C. A PhD degree ensures discovery.
D. Emotional connection deepens research.
4.How does the text develop its main idea about Goodall?
A. By comparing different research methods.
B. By moving from discovery to influence.
C. By listing life events in time order.
D. By focusing on early African research
【答案】1. A 2. C 3. D 4. B

(25-26高一上·浙江杭州西湖区绿城育华·期中)Orion Jean is a kid on a mission. His goal is to spread kindness and inspire others to do the same.
It all started last year when Orion’s elementary school teacher suggested that the then 9-year-old enter the National Kindness Speech Contest. “I decided that I was just going to give it a shot and see how it would go,” Orion tells us. He gave a speech about how kindness could “change a nation,” and won the competition, receiving a $500 cash prize.
He quickly realized he wasn’t going to use all of that money. “I’m a kid,” he says, “I have everything that I could ever want. But there are people who don’t.”
Orion, who says his parents always taught him that “kindness is a virtue that we should all try to possess,” came up with the idea of the Race to Kindness campaign — a series of events to help others. Orion describes the campaign as “just an idea where I would spread kindness and people would be able to join the race by spreading kindness in their own communities.” He decided to start by helping children with health problems in the hospital, saying, “What better way to amuse a kid than a toy?” So, he used his winnings to buy as many toys as possible and launched a toy fair to gather more. He collected over 600 toys, which were donated to the Children’s Health Hospital in Dallas in 2021.
But Orion was just getting started. After the toy fair, he launched an ambitious “Race to 100, 000 meals” to help food-insecure people in his community. Race to Kindness partnered with a local nonprofit organization to help get 100, 000 meals donated and to feed people who might not have had a meal for Thanksgiving. The result? “We were able to not only reach but also surpass our goal of 100, 000 meals,” he says.
In May 2022, the kindness activist decided to launch “Race to 500, 000 Books” to help families who couldn’t afford books or live in “book deserts”. When asked why he thinks of books, “I’m a huge book fan,” Orion shares, “and studies show that children who have books in their homes do better academically.”

Passage 1
(25-26高一上·江西丰城第九中学·期中)Year-12 student Noah Little has already sat his first Chinese-speaking exam and said it was “the easiest exam I’ve ever done”. That view is not surprising given the Wagga High School student loves language — so much so he has built a Chinese translation app.
Noah said his love of language was encouraged by his community. “Wagga is a place full of people from different cultures, and sometimes when I meet new people who have trouble speaking English I like to talk to them in their own language,” he said. “I also have a few Chinese friends so I think it will be cool to talk to them in their language.”
The 17-year-old started teaching himself Chinese around five years ago, before taking distance education classes at the start of Year 11. His language ability was also useful in his part-time job at a local Chinese restaurant, where he translated orders for the cooks and customers.
Noah said he also had a basic knowledge of seven other languages. It was while teaching himself languages that Noah got the idea of the translation tool. “I decided to make my own app because there weren’t many around — all the other apps were full of advertisements (广告) and the translation feature (功能) wasn’t powerful enough,” he said.
His app also includes a word of the day feature, lessons on how to write Chinese characters (汉字) and a news feed of important Chinese news.
He said learning computer programming (编程) to build the app had been like studying another language. With the end of school around the corner, Noah said he would like to pursue (追求) both his interests in computer programming and languages. “I’m planning to work for a year and save so I can go on to university as I really want to make a career (事业) out of one of these two topics.”

Passage 2
(25-26高一上·辽宁锦州省重点中学·期中)Last summer, I went to France for a holiday. I was so excited but also a little nervous because my French was not good.
One hot afternoon, after exploring the city, I felt really tired. I wanted to tell my French friend, Claire, “I am a little tired.” I carefully said the words I’d learned: “Je suis un pue fatigue.”
But Claire burst out laughing. My face felt hot. What had I done wrong? Claire explained, “In French, there are words that sound similar but have very different meanings. ‘peu’ means ‘a little,’ but if you pronounce it differently, it can sound like ‘pue’, which means ‘stinks’ — like something smells bad. So, instead of saying you needed a rest, it sounded like you were saying you smelled bad and were tired”
This awkward (尴尬的) moment was a real eye-opener for me. It made me realize just how daunting pronunciation can be in a foreign language. Even small differences in pronunciation can completely change the meaning of what you’re trying to say. The same is true in English, for example, “ship” (a large boat) and “sheep” (a woolly animal) sound very similar, but they mean totally different things.
Now, I pay extra attention to how words sound and what they mean. And if I mix them up again? I’ll just laugh along. After all, laughing is part of learning — even if it’s a bit stinky sometimes.
1.Why was the author nervous about his holiday in France?
A. He was poor at French.
B. He never went abroad.
C. He had no friends there.
D. He was in short of money.
2.What awkward moment did the author meet?
A. He got a wrong person.
B. He made a pronunciation mistake.
C. He was tricked by the locals.
D. He spelt a word incorrectly.
3.What does the underlined word “daunting” in paragraph 4 most probably mean?
A. Easy. B. Natural. C. Difficult. D. Clear.
4.How did the author’s experience in France affect him?
A. He smelled bad and was tired.
B. He hated learning foreign languages.
C. He no longer considered Claire as a friend.
D. He became open to mistakes in language learning.
【答案】1. A 2. B 3. C 4. D

Passage 3
(25-26高一上·江西景德镇-11月·期中)In Jingdezhen, there’s a street-food stall that has become the talk of the town. The stall is run by Li Junyong, who sells delicious fried chicken cutlets. However, people flock to his stall not just for the tasty food. They come because his stall operates under some really clever and unique rules. Everyone affectionately calls him “Chicken Cutlet Bro”, and he has gained fame for his kind heart and smart business ideas.
The most notable rule is designed for students. Every afternoon at 4:30, Mr. Li stops serving other customers and reserves that time exclusively for students from the nearby school. Why does he do this? He says he has made a promise to the students to always have a warm snack ready for them when their classes end. He believes that the students’ happiness is of great importance, so other patrons have to wait.
Mr. Li also aims to be highly efficient. To save time, he has a signature phrase that all his customers know well. Politely, he always says, “Please open your plastic bag.” This simple request helps him pack the chicken cutlets more quickly, so the hungry students don’t have to wait for too long. It’s a small rule, but it makes a significant difference. And he even has an amusing rule regarding quality. If a chicken cutlet isn’t cooked to perfection, he gives it to the customer for free. He wants every customer to get the best — tasting food from his stall.

Passage 4
(25-26高一上·江西崇仁县第一中学-11月·期中)In the early days of motherhood, I felt lonely. I had left a good job to take care of my six-month-old son. Although I loved being with him, I missed talking to other adults and wanted to hear news from outside. I knew I needed to make friends with other mothers — but I didn’t know how.
I often took my son, Ethan, to the grocery store, which wasn’t a good place to make friends. He enjoyed smiling at people and looking at colorful displays, but I needed more. “We have to find something better to do,” I thought.
Then one day, my husband suggested going to the library. I loved reading but hadn’t had much time since Ethan was born. Maybe a good book could cheer me up.
While at the library, I discovered the children’s area. There was a schedule of activities for children, including a playgroup for babies and toddlers (学步的儿童). I wasn’t sure if I would know anyone, but I decided to give it a try.
The next week, Ethan and I went to the playgroup. I was nervous at first. Luckily, a friendly woman named Misty welcomed us. She introduced me to other moms, and we started talking about our children — their development, favorite foods, and sleep habits. I left feeling happy and hopeful about making new friends.
After that, Ethan and I seldom missed a playgroup. As he grew older, we joined more activities like “Tot Time” and “Story Time.” Later, when his younger sister and brother were born, our schedule became even busier. Together, we learned about gardening, met animals from the local zoo, and played educational games. Most importantly, we all made new friends.
I’m thankful for the moms I met at the library. We have similar backgrounds and children around the same age, so we can support and advise each other. When the children were younger, we met at different parks during summer. Now, we sometimes go out without the kids for dinner or shopping. We still join library activities together.
I’m still amazed how one small brave step changed my life so much. My advice is: don’t be afraid to talk to other moms. You can meet them at the park, church, school, or the library. You might just make lifelong friends.

Passage 5
(25-26高一上·福建漳州第三中学·期中)TAMPA, Fla,—At USF, 21-year-old Alexander Mercier of Odessa, majored in mathematics and microbiology, which leads him to start important research that may make him the school’s first Rhodes Scholar.
“I would say I am stubborn,” explained Mercier, who could hear as early as Saturday if he gets the honor. He says the honor is due to more than just brains. Instead, it was determination that made him an accomplished pianist. He says his biggest natural talent was drawing and he also has a love of art. But it was math that attracted him and he wouldn’t let go. He was studying how math may help control the spread of diseases.
“I would sleep on the couch next to the computer,” he said. “I saw a gap in epidemiological (流行病学的) research in the study of how diseases spread. I didn’t know at the time that it would become one of the most important topics in the world.”
While his work is timely and important, there’s lots of competition. Eleven other finalists from this region of the country are also vying for the honor. They attend schools like MIT, Stanford and the University of Chicago.
Mercier owes it to his school that he can have as good a chance as any of the others and he feels that USF has prepared him well. If he doesn’t win the honor and get to study expense-free at Oxford, he says he’ll have many options. “I will continue to do the work that I enjoy and that I think will benefit people,” he said.
Some are surprised that USF hasn’t had a previous Rhodes Scholar. However, many schools haven’t had one. Only 32 are selected each year from across the nation. USF has only been in existence since 1956. By contrast, the first classes at Oxford were held in 1096.

Passage 6
(25-26高一上·福建莆田第一中学·期中)Two years ago, my 11-year-old son sat me down for a talk. “Mom, it’s time.” he said. “Hear me out: It’s time we got actual TV. And you need an iPhone.”
This funny conversation two years ago marked a shift in our relationship. Perhaps for the first time, I began to really listen to my son’s opinion about our home technology. Since his reasoning was sensible and his suggestions within budget, I took his advice and was pleasantly surprised with the results.
I’d known for a while that my son understands technology better than I do. On airplanes, he grabbed my phone to put it in airplane mode. He wired the speakers in our house. After something was stolen from our front yard, he picked out, set up, and now monitors our security camera. When my computer died, I took him shopping with me.
As a teenager now, he has a busy social life, with skateboarding, basketball, and online gaming with his friends. I see our time together decreasing and our shared interests shrinking. That’s why I jumped at the chance when a friend mentioned writing technology reviews. I’m a writer, but I’d need a partner who has more tech knowledge than me. When I presented the idea to my teen, he immediately accepted
It’s changed our relationship in surprising ways. Where he used to get annoyed quickly at my technical ignorance, he’s learned to be more patient and explain things to me in a way that I can convey to an unknowing audience. The parent-child dynamic is not only changed; it’s even slightly reversed — he’s leading me. I’m asking him for help and advice. My son has risen to the occasion. He’s taking it seriously, and to watch him mature in this way is an honor. As someone who’s not much of a reader, he now searches instruction book. Without any prompting, he’s even emailed and called, yes, made an actual phone call to customer service or tech support when sample products weren’t working as expected.
I never imagined being a tech reviewer, but it’s proved to be a valuable way to learn from, work with and enjoy time with my teen.
1.What did the writer think of her son’s advice?
A. It was unaffordable.
B. It was beyond reach.
C. It sounded reasonable.

2.What is mainly talked about in Paragraph 3?
A. Prove her son’s better mastery of technology.
B. Describe their close parent-child relationship.
C. Give examples of her son’s interest in airplanes.
D. Express her satisfaction of her son’s timely help.
3.Which is closest in meaning to the underlined word “reversed” in Paragraph 5?
A. Unrealistic. B. Opposite. C. Negative. D. Common.
4.What makes the writer feel honored?
A. Her son’s patience with their relationship.
B. Her son’s attitudes to some unknown audiences.
C. Her son’s growth and serious attitude to the work.
D. Her son’s desire to change the parent-child dynamic.

Passage 7
(25-26高一上·江西南昌第二中学·期中)Last spring, my neighbor Donna and I, both in our seventies, spent several hours in the glorious sunshine enjoying the new season. When it was time to sit down and relax, Donna pulled out her red metal chair from her garage, and I sat on an overturned plastic bucket. It was fun to catch up on the news that we had missed during the long winter indoors.
However, over the next few days, it turned out that we needed more than a chair and a bucket which were not quite comfortable. Donna decided we needed a bench. After ruling out unsuitable options from local stores, she found a perfect one online. The next day it arrived. Excitedly, she opened the box and started putting it together. We proudly highfived each other as the pieces joined up and the bench started to look like one. After a few minutes’ assistance from a neighbour, it was assembled. What’s more, it was ideal for two 70-somethings to carry on late afternoon chats.
Soon, the bench attracted other neighbors. One day, someone called out from the sidewalk, “What do you do on that bench?” Quick-thinking Donna shouted back, “It’s our ‘Thinking Bench’! We think about important things happening in our lives.” Then, the name gradually evolved — after one neighbor sat alone deep in thought, he declared it a “Decision-Making Bench”; another time, when Donna was caught napping, she insisted she was “meditating (冥想)”, adding yet another name.
Last fall, with the temperature falling, our outdoor days come to an end. We were faced with one dilemma — what to do about it in the winter? Well, we sat down and thought and meditated and decided to put it in Donna’s garage for the winter.
When I glimpsed it a few times over the next months, the bench sat lonely, holding empty flower pots, and some flat, old boxes. But now after a long winter, spring flowers are ready to bloom in the warm sunshine, and we neighbours are ready to welcome “The Bench” back into our lives.
1.Donna decided to replace the chair and bucket to ________.
A. lighten the carrying load
B. attract more neighbours
C. get better seating for conversations
D. adapt to warmer weather
2.How did the bench get its various names?
A. From items placed on it.
B. From seasonal discussions.
C. From Donna’s creative ideas.
D. From users’ activities on it.
3.Why are pots and boxes mentioned in the last paragraph?
A. To suggest the flowers would soon be planted.
B. To describe the bench’s practical use in winter.
C. To show the bench was not serving its purpose.
D. To explain why the bench needed winter storage.
4.What does “The Bench” represent by the end of the story?
A. A symbol of community bonds.
B. A marker of individual free time.
C. A reminder of the past summer.
D. A memory of a valued online order.
【答案】1. C 2. D 3. C 4. A

Passage 1
(25-26高一上·河北石家庄第二中学·期中)American mountaineer Jim Morrison made history this week when he put on his skis and carefully moved his way down one of Mount Qomolangma’s most dangerous mountain sides. He is the first person to ski the Hornbein Couloir, a high, narrow gully (陡坡) on the mountain’s North Face.
The groundbreaking adventure marked the completion of years of planning and training. Morrison had attempted (尝试) to ski the Hornbein Couloir twice before — once in 2023 and again in 2024 — but was unsuccessful.
This year, Morrison spent more than six weeks on Mount Qomolangma, getting used to the mountain and waiting for a suitable weather window. There were 11 other mountaineers with him. Around 6 a.m. on October 15, Morrison and his teammates began their climb. They reached the top at 12:45 p.m. After taking a few photos, most of the team began carefully climbing back. Meanwhile, Morrison got ready and started skiing.
The trip took him four hours and five minutes. At one point, he reached a point that was completely devoid of snow and ice, so he had to take off his skis and lower himself for about 650 feet. He had a short rest at Camp Three, and then kept going. When Morrison finally reached Camp One, he was in tears. “I’d attempted so much and faced so much danger, but I was alive,” he says.
Mountaineers have skied other routes (线路) on Mount Qomolangma, but never the Hornbein Couloir. Since it’s on the mountain’s north side, the Hornbein Couloir is often shaded from the sun. As a result, it remains covered in snow and ice well into the fall.
French snowboarder Marco Siffredi attempted the Hornbein Couloir in September 2002. But after he dropped into the gully, he was never seen again. Other attempts have been made since then, but no one was successful until Morrison.

3.What is the best title for the passage?

D. To attract the attention of other passengers.
3.How did the atmosphere change after the old man started singing?
A. It remained largely unchanged.
B. It became more silent and serious.
C. It became strange and uncomfortable.
D. It became warmer and more united.
4.What is the main purpose of the passage?
A. To explain the rules of behavior on the D train.
B. To discuss the musical talent of the homeless man.
C. To tell the story of an unexpected human connection.
D. To describe the challenges of living in New York.

D. Her car turned over in the street.

B. The woman was afraid to damage her car.
C. They couldn't move the car because of the high obstacles.
D. They couldn't leave things as they were until the police arrived.
3.What's the author's purpose inside the woman's car?
A. To help fix her car.
B. To help drive her car.

The result? “We were able to not only reach but also surpass our goal of 100, 000 meals,” he says.
In May 2022, the kindness activist decided to launch “Race to 500, 000 Books” to help families who couldn’t afford books or live in “book deserts”.

Passage 2
(25-26高一上·辽宁沈阳第十中学·期中)A story of friendship between a human and a beast is familiar, but one between a man and a penguin is rare. It began when 71-year-old Brazilian fisherman Joao found an oil-covered penguin on a Rio de Janeiro beach, close to death.
The kindhearted fisherman knew that he could not simply walk away from the poor penguin. So Joao cleaned the oil off the penguin’s feathers and nursed it back to health. He started taking care of the poor penguin and fed it with fish to recover the energy it had lost. Soon, he decided to name his newfound friend Dindim. Right after Dindim was able to recover, Joao attempted to release the penguin back into the sea. However, Dindim would not leave his side.
If you are thinking that their one-of-a-kind friendship ended there, then you are in for a big surprise! Passage 1
(25-26高一上·辽宁沈阳市重点高中五校协作体·期中)When Clara took her five-year-old daughter Lila to a school interview this September, she hoped to see her laugh and play with other kids. Instead, Lila just sat alone in a corner, picking at her clothes and never looking up when a teacher talked to her. The teacher suggested that Lila might struggle with socializing. Clara felt worried — she’d never noticed this before — and left the school with a heavy heart.
As a nurse, Clara made a hard decision: she quit her job to fully focus on her daughter. She read many books and watched online videos to learn about kids who have trouble fitting in. “People like my daughter love repeating their behavior to calm themselves. Lila likes arranging her toys in a straight line over and over again. If she’s not troubling anyone, I let her be,” Clara says.
Despite her efforts, some neighbors often judged her parenting (育儿). Clara faced unkind words, but she stayed patient. She kept a small notebook to record what upset or pleased Lila — loud noises scared her, but soft music made her smile. She also encouraged Lila to join activities like painting and planting flowers.
Clara gave up the idea of “fixing” Lila. “I didn’t push her to talk more or play with others. I just wanted her to feel comfortable and grow in her own way,” she says. Today, Lila is more confident — she can say simple greetings, help water the flowers at home, and even share her paintings with the teacher.
Clara and her friend started a small group called “Little Stars Shine Too”. They shared Lila’s stories online to help other parents. Clara also wrote a guidebook to support parents of children with special needs. For her, the key is acceptance. “When you stop trying to fit your child into a box, you open the door to a new world,” she says.
1.What caused Clara to leave the school with a heavy heart?
A. Her regret at Lila’s performance.
B. Her knowing about Lila’s condition.

D. Her failure to meet Lila’s headteacher.
2.What’s a feature of people like Lila according to Clara?
A. They are skilled at playing with toys.

3.How does Clara help her daughter Lila?
A. By taking part in different activities.
B. By creating a supportive environment.
C. By working together with her neighbors.
D. By reflecting on daily mistakes regularly.
4.Who is the text probably written for?
A. Parents. B. Teachers. C. Nurses. D. Students.
Passage 2
(25-26高一上·河北辛集中学·期中)I’m a seventeen-year-old boy preparing for my A Level exams at the end of the year. In the society where my peers (同龄人) and I live, we tend to accept the rat race values. As students, we want to get good grades so that we can get good jobs. I enjoy studying and have consistently received A’s in my classes. There was a year when I finished first in my class in the final exams. It was a great accomplishment.
Another one I am pleased with is that I managed to improve the relationship between Mum and Dad. Dad was a successful businessman who was rarely at home. Mum was a housewife who always felt bored and constantly nagged (唠叨) him to let her go to work. Their constant arguing bothered me, so I advised Dad that Mum would be better off with a part-time job. He agreed, and their relationship has improved since then.
My most proud achievement, however, is my successful work in the local old folks’ home. My grandparents had raised me since I was a child. I wept (哭泣) bitterly when they died. Unlike many of my classmates, I do not take part in my school's community service to earn points. I enjoy my voluntary work and believe I’m contributing to a worthwhile cause. This is where I can help. I talk to the elderly, assist them with their daily life, and listen to their problems, glory days and the hardships they experienced.
Last year, I hosted a successful New Year party for the elderly and they enjoyed a great time. Many expressed a desire to attend another party the following year. When I reflect on my accomplishments, I’m especially proud of my service at the old folks’ home, so I hope to study social work at university and work as a social worker in the future. I wish to be more skilled in attending to the less fortunate as well as find great satisfaction in it, after all.

主题语境03 人与自然-环境
(25-26高一上·福建泉州第七中学·期中)A beach cleanup brings people together to remove trash (垃圾) from a beach. Various organizations organize the cleanups. They often work with local governments to properly deal with any trash that is collected. My husband and I go to as many beach cleanups as we can. It is one of our favorite voluntary activities.
You might not think that picking up trash sounds like fun. But cleaning up a beach, especially that with lots of trash, is very rewarding. A beach cleanup is a good way to help the environment, get exercise and meet new people. To clean so much trash might seem impossible on some beaches. But you can accomplish a lot in just a few hours with other volunteers. By the time you are done, you will be encouraged by the results.
My first time joining a beach cleanup was in Costa Rica. Our group walked 30 minutes to a small beach called “Playa Basura”, meaning “trash beach” in Spanish. A lot of trash washes up on the beach there. The beach often looks like it is covered with colorful rocks. But the rocks are just small pieces of plastic. Most of the trash comes from other areas. It washes down rivers and into the ocean. Then the waves carry the trash to Playa Basura.
Our group worked hard for about two hours and filled over 100 trash bags. The difference was amazing. But every year the rainy season brings more trash to Playa Basura. So, it is fortunate that there is a yearly cleanup at Playa Basura. Trash on other similar beaches won’t end until people stop trash from getting into the oceans. But every beach cleanup helps.
1.How does the author feel about a beach cleanup?
A. Boring and fruitless.
B. Stressful yet meaningful.

A. To introduce a new topic.
B. To offer background information.

A. To encourage people to refuse plastic products.
B. To call on more people to join beach cleanup.
C. To show her concern about the beach pollution.
D. To report on people’s efforts in beach cleaning.
4.Which can be a suitable title for the text?
A. The Ocean Trash Cleanup
