The Dead Sea is a very special lake in the Middle East. It is famous for being one of the saltiest lakes on earth. Unlike other lakes, the Dead Sea has so much salt that almost nothing can live in it — neither fish nor plants. That’s why it’s called the Dead Sea.
Plenty of tourists from all over the world choose to go to the Dead Sea on vacation. One of the reasons is that they can float (漂浮) in the lake even if they can’t swim. The Dead Sea has a higher density (密度) than the human body, so it can push the body up easily. Tourists can just lie back in the lake and read a book without effort. What’s more, the waters of the Dead Sea can make people’s skin smooth and soft because they are rich in minerals (矿物质).
The Dead Sea is also very low. Its banks are the lowest point on earth. There are rocks and hills around the lake. When the sun shines brightly, the Dead Sea looks like a blue mirror (镜子).
However, the Dead Sea is disappearing (消失). Less water is running into the lake and climate change makes the situation worse. Scientists are working hard to save the magical place. They hope people can enjoy themselves there in the future too.
( ) 24. What do we know about the Dead Sea?
A. It is the deepest lake on earth.
B. People are able to run in it easily.
C. There are lots of fish and plants in it.
D. Its waters are good for people’s skin.
( ) 25. What is the second paragraph mainly about?
A. What the Dead Sea looks like.
B. How the Dead Sea got the name.
C. Why people go on holiday to the Dead Sea.
D. Why the Dead Sea is a good place to read.
( ) 26. Why are scientists trying to save the Dead Sea?
A. To do more scientific studies.
B. To get more salty water.
C. To provide a home for sea animals.
D. To save a great tourist site for future people.

In the Andes Mountains of Peru, a country in South America, sits an ancient city called Machu Picchu. The Incas (印加人) built it more than 500 years ago. The outside world forgot about it until Hiram Bingham, an American archaeologist (考古学家), came across it in 1911. Bingham named it “Machu Picchu” after the mountain beside it and brought this lost city to the world’s attention.
Experts believe Machu Picchu used to be a retreat for Inca leaders when they were away from the capital city and went on holiday. However, others think it had something to do with religion (宗教). Since the Incas had no written language, its true purpose (目的) is still unknown.
The Incas built Machu Picchu on a mountaintop about 2,400 metres high. Experts think they did this to protect themselves. They could watch everything down below from the mountain, but people below couldn’t see what was up on the mountain. As a result, it was easier for them to fight against enemies (敌人).
There are many things about Machu Picchu that we don’t know. But one thing is certain: the Incas were very smart. They built their buildings with huge stones that fitted together perfectly. This clever building style helped protect the city from natural disasters, such as earthquakes. And they did all of this work by hand, without using any modern tools or machines.
Today, Machu Picchu is known as one of the New Seven Wonders of the World, and it has become a popular tourist attraction. Around a million visitors come each year to see this magical place in the clouds.

Ways of travel are always changing, and one exciting new trend (趋势) in recent years is the one-click trip. What is the one-click trip? Well, it allows travellers to book a whole trip — from plane tickets and transport to hotels and restaurants to activities — with just one click on social media (社交媒体) or special apps.
Expedia, a big travel company, made a survey. The results show that 49% of travellers want to book a whole trip they have seen on social media. To meet this need, many one-click trips have come out.
One-click trips come in different types. Some one-click trips are as simple as booking a hotel. Others are carefully planned according to (根据) your tastes and needs. Let’s take Pack Up + Go as an example. It is famous for its mystery (神秘) trips. While its main focus is offering simple one-click trips, you can also customise your trips as you see fit. Greenland, anyone? What about Malawi? Qatar? Singapore? You name it, and they will get your one-click trip planned.
No matter what types of one-click trips they are, they all have some things in common: they save time and pass the duty of planning to someone else. Travellers don’t have to plan everything in person. Instead, someone else like a travel company does the work. Travellers just need to enjoy their trips.
One-click trips make it easy for you to travel around. If you’re new to travel, stop worrying about planning and start travelling with one-click trips.
( ) 31. The one-click trip is a whole trip that ______.
A. you can finish in a short time
B. allows you to visit one place only
C. you can book with one click online
D. you can go on without leaving home

A. Many people are interested in one-click trips.
B. Travel companies are still the most popular choice.
C. Social media is a great place to learn about popular trips.
D. Most travellers like to share their trip plans on social media.
( ) 33. What does the underlined word “customise” in paragraph 3 mean?
A. 取消 B. 记录 C. 继续 D. 定制
( ) 34. What is the common good point of one-click trips?
A. They save time and effort.
B. They are always the cheapest.
C. They have excellent tour guides.
D. They are full of exciting mysteries.
( ) 35. What is the main idea of the passage?
A. To share how to plan a trip online.
B. To introduce an exciting travel trend.
C. To tell us the importance of online travel.
D. To show different types of travel companies.
