人的动作:put on a smile 挤出笑容;break into a grin 咧嘴一笑;murmur 低声说;take the bowl with both hands 双手接碗;whisper 耳语;crack a joke 开玩笑;serve a hundred bowls 盛了上百碗;hold out a bowl 递出碗;lower one's head 低下头。
heart hammering 心怦怦直跳;a rehearsed smile frozen on one's face 排练好的笑僵在脸上;fear melted away 恐惧慢慢融化;something inside me loosened 心里什么东西松了一下;taken aback 愣住;comforting 令人安心的;intimidating 令人胆怯的;dignified 有尊严的。
a soup kitchen 施粥所/社区食堂;a long line of people 长长的队伍;the weak overhead light 头顶昏暗的灯光;the smell of onions and warm bread 洋葱和热面包的气味;steam rising from the bowls 碗里冒着热气;a serving counter 供餐台;torn and dirty clothes 破烂肮脏的衣服。
The line moving slowly forward, each person held out a worn, trembling bowl.
Never had I expected a simple afternoon of serving soup to change the way I saw the world.
句型:It is/was + 被强调部分 + that + 句子其余部分
句子:It was that whispered "thank you" from an old woman that first cracked the wall of fear around my heart.
用法:It was...that...
④ with 复合
I stood behind the counter, with a rehearsed smile frozen on my face and my heart hammering.
⑤ as if
句型:as if + to do / doing / 从句
句子:She held the bowl with both hands, as if it were something precious rather than merely a bowl of soup.
用法:as if to do 写“像要做什么”,猜测感和画面感都有了。
Bathed in the weak overhead light, the dining hall smelled of onions and warm bread.
I need to do something in my community in order to complete the community service hours required to graduate from high school. Some of my friends had signed up to spend time at a soup kitchen, so I did, too. It seemed like a good thing to do.
The service work was not so easy as I had expected. I thought that we would just be passing out dinners to those in need, but I found out we would be doing everything from preparing the food to passing out dinners—mix the salad dressing and assign vegetable and meat.
We had been preparing the food for a couple of hours, when so many homeless people of all ages and nationalities were gathering outside. As the line of people came toward me, I got a little scared. I'd come face to face with the homeless. How should I act? How would they treat me? Would they hate me for having more than they did? While some of the people looked very friendly, some of them looked so dangerous. I didn't have too much time to worry about it. I was assigned to serve the salad with the lady next to me. She smiled at me and said if I needed help, she'd be right there, which I found quite comforting.
I had never seen so many people wanting food. They were of all ages and nationalities. Most of them wore clothes that were torn and dirty. Some looked like they had totally given up on life, while others seemed to be making the best of the situation, smiling and joking. Some were better off than others, but they all needed a good meal to eat and a warm place to live in. It saddened me to think of how many people there were who didn't have a place to call home and the only food they got came from a soup kitchen.
Paragraph 1: As they came in my direction, I put on my brightest and happiest smile.
Paragraph 2: I was so happy that I had earned my service hours in this way.
伏笔①:some looked so dangerous(我怕他们)。 第一段第二句就写“看着最凶的那个人先冲我咧嘴笑了”(the man who looked most dangerous broke into a gap-toothed grin)。
伏笔②:I only needed service hours / thought we'd just pass out dinners(我只是来凑时长的)。 (I had signed up merely to check a box, never expecting it would change me)。
伏笔③:the lady next to me smiled(旁边女士的笑)。
本范文里:dangerous→most dangerous→gap-toothed grin(危险→最凶→咧嘴笑);bowl→bowls→a hundred bowls(碗→很多碗);fear→fear melted away→loosened(害怕→融化→松了);the homeless→people(无家可归者→人)。
the man / he、an old woman / she、they / them——代词一拉起来,段落就成了一条线。
第三,用连接词把句子串起来:表转折 yet / but、表时间 then / slowly、表对照 not...but、表递进 next。
I was moved)
Paragraph 1
As they came in my direction, I put on my brightest and happiest smile. To my disbelief, the man who looked most dangerous broke into a gap-toothed grin and murmured, "God bless you." An old woman took the bowl with both hands, her rough knuckles brushing mine. "Thank you, dear," she whispered, and something inside me loosened. A tired mother came next, then a man who cracked a joke that made us all laugh. Slowly, my fear melted away; they were not what I had imagined. I no longer felt like a volunteer counting hours—I felt I belonged.
Paragraph 2
I was so happy that I had earned my service hours in this way. I had signed up merely to check a box, never expecting it would change me. That afternoon I served a hundred bowls, yet it was not I who did the giving. It was they, with torn coats and tired eyes, who taught me that every life still deserves to be seen. Those rough, grateful hands were books no textbook had given me. No longer did I see them as "the homeless"; I saw people, hungry yet dignified. Walking home, I knew I would be back—not for the hours, but for them.
范文用到的语料清单:动作类 put on a smile / break into a grin / murmur / take the bowl with both hands / whisper / crack a joke / serve a hundred bowls;情绪类 fear melted away / something inside me loosened;句型类 独立主格 / 强调句 / 否定倒装 / 分词状语 / 分号对照。
① I smiled → put on my brightest and happiest smile:不说“笑了”,说“硬挤出最灿烂的笑”,为后面的反差点铺垫。
② the dangerous man smiled → the man who looked most dangerous broke into a gap-toothed grin and murmured "God bless you":不说“危险的人笑了”,给脸给声音给台词,反差才立得住。
③ she took the bowl → An old woman took the bowl with both hands, her rough knuckles brushing mine:独立主格+身体接触,得分细节——“粗糙”这个词后面还要回扣。
④ I was moved → "Thank you, dear," she whispered, and something inside me loosened:用耳语+身体感受写情绪,比 I was moved 高级。
⑤ I was not afraid → Slowly, my fear melted away; they were not what I had imagined:转变是慢慢的,用分号转折,不说一秒钟变好。
⑥ I was a volunteer → I no longer felt like a volunteer counting hours—I felt I belonged:破折号对照,从“凑时长”到“属于这里”。
⑦ I learned a lot → It was they, with torn coats and tired eyes, who taught me that every life still deserves to be seen:强调句,落到具体的人(破烂的外套、疲惫的眼睛),不喊口号。
⑧ they were homeless → No longer did I see them as "the homeless"; I saw people, hungry yet dignified:否定倒装+分号对照,偏见在句子层面被翻转,“饥饿却有尊严”给人以分量。
An old woman took the bowl with both hands, her rough knuckles brushing mine.
He took my hand, his fingers trembling slightly.
(It was...who...):It was they, with torn coats and tired eyes, who taught me that every life still deserves to be seen.
拆解:It was...who... 强调主语 they,中间 with torn coats and tired eyes 是插入语,给“他们”配上画面,that 从句是 taught 的宾语。 It was the old man, with his weathered face and gentle voice, who changed my mind.
③ 否定倒装(No longer + 助动词 + 主语):No longer did I see them as "the homeless"; I saw people, hungry yet dignified.
拆解:No longer 放句首引起部分倒装(did I see),分号后用正常语序形成对照,hungry yet dignified 是形容词短语作后置定语修饰 people。 Never did I imagine that a simple act of kindness could mean so much.
Paragraph 1
As they came in my direction, I put on my brightest smile. To my disbelief, ______ gave me a warm ______ and murmured, "______." ______ took the bowl with both hands, her rough knuckles brushing mine.
I had signed up merely to ______, never expecting it would ______. That afternoon I served ______, yet it was not I who ______. It was they, with ______ and ______, who taught me that ______. Those ______ hands were books no textbook had given me. No longer did I see them as "______"; I saw people, ______ yet ______. Walking home, I knew I would be back—not for ______, but for ______.
第一步 接(30秒):段首句原样抄下,立刻补一个“硬挤出的笑/紧张的身体反应”(with复合:with a rehearsed smile frozen on my face)。
① 改写或拆分段首句——段首句必须原样保留,接在后面写;
② 空喊口号——“我们要帮助穷人”“人与人要互相关爱”,一律三类卷;
③ 人称混乱——原文用 they 指无家可归者,你写成 he/she 乱指,阅卷老师瞬间出戏;
④ 转变太快——上一句还害怕,下一句就“我很感动”,转变必须有具体的人和事做载体;
