Step 2 Presentation:Giving reasons with because and for 1.Explain the uses of because and for presented in A. (1)Because gives a direct or important reason,can answer why⁃questions,and a because⁃clause can appear before or after the main clause. (2)For usually gives an extra reason.It is more formal,cannot stand alone and a for⁃clause does not come at the beginning of a sentence. 2.Compare the tone and position of because and for with examples from the textbook. Step 3 Practice 1.Work on A1 (1)Ask students to rewrite the sentence pairs about Tan Dun using because or for. (2)Check the answers and ask students to explain why the chosen conjunction is suitable. 2.Work on A2 Organize students to talk with a partner about a favourite musician,using because and for to give reasons. Step 4 Presentation:Giving reasons with since and as 1.Present the examples in B.Explain that since and as can also introduce reason clauses. 2.Explain that since and as usually introduce a reason that is already known or less strongly emphasized,and both can appear at the beginning or in the middle of a sentence. 3.Compare because,for,since and as in terms of strength,sentence position and typical use. Step 5 Practice 1.Work on B1:Ask students to rewrite the sentence pairs about the school music festival using since or as. 2.Work on B2:Ask students to improve Sandy’s passage about a Beijing opera show by combining sentences with because,for,since and as.Then check together. 3.Work on B3:Ask students to write at least four sentences about a music event at school,using because,for,since and as. 4.Invite several students to read their sentences and let the class check whether the reason conjunctions fit the intended meaning and position.
