Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to recommend my poster designed for the World Cleanup Day campaign.
As is shown in the poster,an exhausted Earth is covered in sweat, with factories giving off heavy
smoke and piles of rubbish scattered around it.At the top reads the slogan"There is no Planet B",which
aims to show the urgency of environmental conservation.I believe my poster is worth considering. To
begin with, the sorrowful image of Earth will touch everyone's hearts and remind us of the harm we have
caused to the Earth.Besides, simple as it is,the slogan is easy to understand and, more importantly,
powerful enough to motivate readers to take immediate action to protect our one and only home.
I sincerely hope you will take my poster into account.
Yours,
Li Hua

"Is it written by you independently?"asked Mr Bilesky politely.Tom's cheeks burned with shame as
he hung his head and admitted his plagiarism. He explained that having no interest in classical music,he
had chosen to copy others'works instead of reading the book seriously.Mr Bilesky praised Tom for his
honesty, but also emphasized that a genuine attitude towards learning far outweighs all the other things.
Overwhelmed with guilt,Tom sincerely apologized to Mr Bilesky and then actively requested for a
second chance.Seeing Tom's determination,Mr Bilesky decided to give him a one-week extension for
completing the report on his own.
For the next week,Tom put his heart and soul into writing his own report. He read the recommended
book thoroughly and even watched recordings of Bernstein's concerts online.Much to his amazement,he
found himself gradually drawn by the composer's passion and dedication to music.Eventually,Tom
handed his report on time. After reading the rewritten report,Mr Bilesky remarked that while there was
still room for improvement in language expression,Tom's independent thinking and original insights
clearly shone through.Tom expressed his heartfelt gratitude to his teacher, having truly learned that true
learning and progress arise from one's own down-to-earth efforts, not from taking shortcuts.

customers or do some cooking, not be stuck at the kitchen sink!

M:I don't mind it.Doing computer work helps me relax-I prefer it over other tasks. Are you looking
for a summer job this year?
W:Yeah,I'm still trying to find one.Do you have any advice?

M:No.I started off by getting some experience with a global company.
第4页共8页

guarantee the top quality. What can't be ignored is how farmers deal with the beans afterward. That's
the crucial element.

M:It is.It is growing quickly and right now I need more space.
W:I hope you can find somewhere suitable soon.

If you take a walk in London, you'll see many street entertainers. You might also see something
different-the work of sand artist Lisa Cortez.Lisa uses colored sand to create detailed patterns on the
ground. She likes to observe natural landscapes, such as beaches, deserts, and forests, and she combines
elements from these environments into her work.To produce highly detailed patterns,Lisa often chooses
a quiet place. While most people often say lovely things, there are always those who like to criticize, and
Lisa finds it hard not to get upset. If people like her work, they can show their appreciation by leaving
money in the box nearby. On a good day,the box fills up quickly. With the money from the box and the
art classes she runs in the evenings, she makes enough money to rent her small flat.Lisa has an exciting
month ahead, with an exhibition of her artwork coming up.The items she has created for the exhibition
can't hang on the wall,so she asked the organizers to cover them with plastic sheets.Lisa hopes visitors
will enjoy her unique sand art.

开,说明开展职业教育的必要性与价值。

technicians(熟练汽车技术工人严重短缺),与A选项缺少经验丰富的机修工”表意一致。
25.B词义猜测题,第三段提出不能单纯因为用工短缺强迫年轻人选择技校,但是年轻人和家长

实情况做出理性选择。因此do the math”指依据事实做出抉择。

My car, involved in a minor accident, had been sitting in the repair shop for nearly a month. The
manager couldn't give me a clear date for when it would be ready. It wasn't due to a parts or supply
chain issue but because of a severe shortage of skilled auto technicians. This is part of a larger worker
shortage crisis affecting many labor trades.
Several factors contribute to the current crisis. The shift toward a post-industrial society in the
1970s,followed by the digital age, designed a labor market that prized office jobs and devalued
manual (labor and industrial work.Besides, since the 1960s,parents and educators have
pushed students toward colleges.Trade school education was no longer presented as an option.
Moreover, most skilled workers today are older and fewer young people have been entering skilled
trades. It's expected that 41%of this aging workforce will retire by 2031,leaving a substantial
replacement gap.
Certainly,we cannot push our youth toward trade schools simply by telling them there's a labor
shortage crisis. But we can trust that young people-and their parents-will do the math
First,.wages are higher than expected.Trade jobs in construction and plumbing(管道工程)are
among the highest-paying today, with annual mean wages of $83,880 for carpenters (and
$93,080 for plumbers.Besides, the other side of the story also deserves some attention.Skilled labor
jobs must be performed in person, making them resistant to automation and AI.And the pleasure of
working with one's hands,combined with problem-solving and critical-thinking skills,provides
rewarding work.
My car repair story made me take a closer look at trade school education. The four-year college
path should no longer be seen as the only route to success.Trade school education can also lead to
brilliant careers. We need to recognize the essential value of skilled labor trades.Without them, our
everyday lives and our economy struggle to run smoothly.
24.What delayed the car repair?
A.A lack of experienced mechanics.
B.The vehicle's damage severity.
C.A shortage of auto parts and supplies.
D.The manager's inability to schedule repairs.
25.What does the underlined phrase "do the math"in paragraph 3 probably mean?
A.Calculate exact salary figures.
B.Make decisions based on facts.
C.Study mathematics in trade schools.
D.Worry about future job prospects.
高三英语试卷第3页(共8页)
26.How does the author develop Paragraph 4?
A.By listing multiple advantages of trade jobs
B.By analyzing causes and effects of a phenomenon.
C.By making comparisons between different careers.
D.By presenting pros and cons of taking up trade jobs.
27.What is the author's attitude towards trade school education?
A.Skeptical.
B.Neutral.
C.Appreciative.
D.Pessimistic.

We live in challenging times.Life-giving forests burn and oceans choke on waste.Yet,these
realities don't mean the world is ending.Nature itself offers models of connection and healing
Consider the mushroom, which uses its mycelia (to link itself to the roots of nearby plants,
trees, and other fungi(真菌)一and in the process connects each to the other..
The presence of fungal mycelia allows nearby trees to communicate across distances, warning
other trees, even those of different species,of the presence of attacking insects, thereby signaling the
production of biochemical defenses.Almost magically, trees use mycelia to transfer essential
nutrients, sustaining the life and health of not only those trees but the entire local ecosystem.Fungal
mycelia also naturally break down harmful pollutants, creating cleaner, safer, and healthier land and
water.
If a life-form seemingly as simple as a mushroom can reach out to other species to do any or all
of these things-self-organize,connect,communicate,assist,protect,defend,heal,and restore-
why couldn't humans? After all,we too belong to nature.Perhaps intelligent interdependence is our
natural gift, one we can embrace, enhance, and strengthen in service of our own species, and all
others. In fact, the refusal to honor our interdependence and enact healthy and sustained relations has
caused no end of suffering.
Thus, what should we do to tackle the challenges we face in the new era?
To construct a sufficiently innovative response,we must learn to look at things from a holistic
(perspective. It is time to bridge East and West:to many the wisdom of our ancient spiritual
traditions to contemporary science. As we apply scientific insight to understand modern social ills,we
can better integrate such information with practices. In this way,we may awaken to and further
develop our most natural biological gifts:the powers to self-organize,connect,communicate,assist,
protect,defend,heal,and restore.
28.What is a key role of fungal mycelia?
A.Killing attacking insects.
B.Repairing damaged roots.
C.Producing plant nutrients
D.Delivering warning signals.
29.What does the author intend to do in Paragraph 3?
A.To describe how fungi sustain a balanced ecosystem.
B.To suggest humans can follow nature's support model.
C.To explain the principle of natural ecosystem restoration.
D.To prove humans are born with higher social intelligence.
30.What approach does the author propose to deal with modern challenges?
A.Abandon out-of-date thinking modes.
B.Use science to reshape human biological gifts.
C.Rely on spiritual traditions to find all solutions
D.Combine ancient wisdom with modern science.
31.In which column of a magazine will you most probably find this article?
A.Technology.
B.Agriculture.
C.Opinion.
D.Nature.

A curious aspect of human nature, the Pratfall Effect suggests that our imperfections might be the
key to winning hearts and minds. This psychological principle challenges the idea that perfection is
the ultimate goal in social interactions.Instead,it proposes that a well-timed mistake can make us
more likable and relatable
First identified by social psychologist Elliot Aronson in the 1960s,the Pratfall Effect was
demonstrated in an experiment where participants listened to recordings of individuals answering
difficult quiz questions. In one condition, the highly competent individual was heard accidentally to
make a slip of the tongue.Surprisingly, this "clumsy"version was rated as more likable than the same
individual who made no mistake.
Why does this effect occur? It's driven by our desire for relatability and our tendency to feel
uncomfortable around those who seem too perfect. When we encounter someone who appears perfect,
our brains often go into comparison mode, leading to feelings of inadequacy or distance. But when
they make a minor mistake, they become more human-and more likable.
This shift in perception is closely tied to cognitive dissonance(认知失调).When we hold
conflicting beliefs,it creates discomfort. In the case of the Pratfall Effect, the dissonance arises from
our admiration for someone's competence and our desire to relate to them.A minor mistake helps
resolve this tension, allowing us to maintain our positive view of the person while feeling connected.
In today's digital age, where social media promotes perfection, the effect becomes even more
powerful. The constant pressure to present an idealized version of ourselves online can lead to
"comparison fatigue ()"We're flooded with highlight videos of others'lives, which can make
our own seem lacking in comparison. When influencers or peers share moments of imperfection,it
can be incredibly refreshing and relatable.
Ultimately, the Pratfall Effect serves as a powerful reminder of our shared humanity. It tells us
that it's not our perfection that draws others to us,but our willingness to be real,to be vulnerable, and
to connect on a genuine human level.
32.Which of the following is most likely to cause the Pratfall Effect?
A.A gifted athlete's comfortable win in a tournament.
B.A small kid locks himself outside the house by chance.
C.An excellent singer's sudden voice crack during a concert.
D.An ordinary teenage successfully scores a goal in a football match.
33.What is the psychological mechanism behind the Pratfall Effect?
A.The need to appear perfect.
B.The desire to connect with others
C.The respect for competence.
D.The fear of being judged for mistakes.
34.Why does the Pratfall Effect become more powerful in the digital age?
A.Internet culture values genuineness over perfection.
B.Refreshing highlight videos attract attention more quickly.
C.It is easier for people to find faults with others on the Internet.
D.Social media's advocating perfection brings about comparison fatigue.
35.What is a suitable title for the text?
A.The Pratfall Effect:The Unexpected Magic of Imperfection
B.The Pratfall Effect:The Hidden Burden of Social Interaction
C.Cognitive Dissonance:The Disastrous Power of Digital Discomfort
D.Cognitive Dissonance:The Unavoidable Consequence of Comparison

Microplastics are everywhere in the food system, and plastic kitchenware (is a major
source of pollution at home.By one estimate,we on average swallow about 3.8m microplastics
annually, many through food. The possible health impacts of microplastic exposure are still coming
into focus, but some research has linked them to increased risk of heart attack, for instance.36
Below are some practical principles to guide you.
You can't avoid microplastics completely. Some plastic will almost certainly end up in your food,
no matter what you do.37 Instead, prioritize the easiest steps you can take to avoid the
chemicals, like replacing plastic kitchenware with items made with safer alternatives, such as wood
and stainless steel.
38 The level at which plastic gets into hot substances can be rather astonishing.
Single-use paper coffee cups can release trillions of bits of plastic when hot liquid is added.Similarly,
tea bags can release billions of particles, and microwavable plastic is also a problem.
Reduce plastic, even if you can't totally avoid it.For years,I used a blender with a big
plastic jar to make my morning milkshake, and it recently dawned on me that I was probably getting
more plastic than wanted in my milkshake but I couldn't find any plastic-free blenders. It seems a
universal practice to use plastic to make them.39 I ended up switching to a blender with a
glass jar.
40 Most household appliances still have some plastic components. In some cases, this is
the best version that can be done with the current technology, and that's OK
A.Avoid heating plastic products.
B.Don't attempt to get rid of every last one.
C.Replace all plastic products with glass ones.
D.However,this doesn't mean I could do nothing.
E.With this in mind,it is wise for you to reduce exposure.
F.You might face the same dilemma when choosing other items.
G.It is time for us to push for complete removal of plastic products.

As a high school student,Tom Potenski had managed to make his way to decent grades at school
for the last two years, particularly in physics and history. But now he faced a situation that could
collapse his future.
Two weeks ago,Stash Bilesky, his English teacher, had asked the class to do reports on books he
recommended. To help each student better understand the book they got,Mr Bilesky also listed some
articles for reference.Having taken a quick glance at the author of the assigned book-Leonard
Bernstein,Tom put the book into the drawer and left, thinking he had more important things to do.
Not a big fan of the art world,Tom had no taste at all for the great composer and classical music. As
the deadline approached,he decided to take the easy way around the book report. He copied a
ready-made summary from the Internet, used AI for polishing and handed it in.
In today's English class,Mr Bilesky handed out everyone's report and made comments on some
students'excellent works.Tom waited anxiously for the "A"grade, thinking his report would stand
out. However, confidence transformed into fear when Tom found everyone except him had received
their corrected book reports back from Mr Bilesky.
After class,Mr Bilesky asked Tom to come over."Mr Potenski,we have something serious to
discuss. Please come to my office after school,"Mr Bilesky said. For the next two classes,Tom had
no mind for the lecture, fearing the severe punishment he might face.
The instant school was over,Tom dragged himself towards his teacher's office, with butterflies in
his stomach."Had Mr Bilesky discovered my act of plagiarism ()Would this ruin my chances
of a somewhat promising career?Would I be trading university classes for working in a rice field?..."
After an intense mental struggle,Tom took a deep breath and knocked at the door."Please come in,"
said Mr Bilesky

My car, involved in a minor accident, had been sitting in the repair shop for nearly a month. The manager couldn't give me a clear date for when it would be ready. It wasn't due to a parts or supply chain issue but because of a severe shortage of skilled auto technicians. This is part of a larger worker shortage crisis affecting many labor trades.
Several factors contribute to the current crisis. Theshift toward a post-industrial society in the 1970s, followed by the digital age, designed a labor market that prized office jobs and devalued manual(体力的)labor and industrial work. Besides, since the 1960s, parents and educators have pushed students toward colleges. Trade school education was no longer presented as an option. Moreover, most skilled workers today are older and fewer young people have been entering skilled trades. It's expected that 41% of this aging workforce will retire by 2031, leaving a substantial replacement gap.
Certainly, we cannot push our youth toward trade schools simply by telling them there's a labor shortage crisis. But we can trust that young people- and their parents- will do the math.
First, wages are higher than expected. Trade jobs in constructionand plumbing(管道工程)are among the highest-paying today, wwith annual mean wages of $83,880 for carpenters (木工)and $93,080 for plumbers. Besides, the other side of the story also deserves some attention. Skilled labor jobs must be performed in person, making them resistant to automation and AI. And the pleasure of working with one's hands, combined with problem-solving and critical-thinking skills, provides rewarding work.
My car repair story made me take a closer look at trade school education. The four-year college path shouuld no longer be seen as the only route to success. Trade school education can also lead to brilliant careers. We need to recognize the essential value of skilled labor trades. Without them, our everyday lives and our economy struggle to run smoothly.
24. What delayed the car repair?
A. A lack of experienced mechanics. B.The vehicle's damage severity.
C. A shortage of auto parts and supplies. D.The manager's inability to schedule repairs.
25. What does the underlined phrase "do the math” in paragraph 3 probably mean?
A. Calculate exact salary figures. B. Make decisions based on facts.
C. Study mathematics in trade schools. D. Worry about future job prospects.

We live in challenging times. Life-giving forests burn and oceans choke on waste. Yet, these realities don't mean the world is ending. Nature itself offers models of connection and healing.Consider the mushroom, which uses its mycelia(菌丝) to link itself to the roots of nearby plants, trees, and other fungi(真菌)-and in the process connects each to the other.
The presence of fungal mycelia allows nearby trees to communicate across distances, warning other trees, even those of different species, of the presence of attacking insects, thereby signaling the production of biochemical defenses. Almost magically, trees use mycelia to transfer essential nutrients, sustaining the life and health of not only those trees but the entire local ecosystem. Fungal mycelia also naturally break down harmful pollutants, creating cleaner, safer, and healthier land and water.
If a life-form seemingly as simple as a mushroom can reach out to other species to do any or all of these things-self-organize, connect, communicate, assist, protect, defend, heal, and restore -why couldn't humans? After all, we too belong to nature. Perhaps intelligent interdependence is our natural gift, one we can embrace, enhance, and strengthen in service of our own species, and all others. In fact, the refusal to honor our interdependence and enact healthy and sustained relations has caused no end of suffering.
Thus, what should we do to tackle the challenges we face in the new era?
To construct a sufficiently innovative response, we must learn to look at things from a holistic (整体的)perspective. It is time to bridge East and West: to marry the wisdom of our ancient spiritual traditions to contemporary science. As we apply scientific insight to understand modern social ills, we can better integrate such information with practices. In this way, we may awaken to and further develop our most natural biological gifts: the powers to self-organize, connect, communicate, assist, protect, defend, heal, and restore.
28. What is a key role of fungal mycelia?
A. Killing attacking insects. B. Repairing damaged roots.
C. Producing plant nutrients. D. Delivering warning signals.
29. What does the author intend to do in Paragraph 3?
A. To describe how fungi sustain a balanced ecosystem.
B. To suggest humans can follow nature's support model.
C.To explain the principle of natural ecosystem restoration.
D. To prove humans are born with higher social intelligence.
30. What approach does the author propose to deal with modern challenges?
A. Abandon out-of-date thinking modes.
B. Use science to reshape human biological gifts.
C. Rely on spiritual traditions to find all solutions.
D. Combine ancient wisdom with modern science.
31. In which column of a magazine will you most probably find this article?
A.Technology. B.Agriculture. C. Opinion. D.Nature.

A curious aspect of human nature, the Pratfall Effect suggests that our imperfections might be the key to winning hearts and minds. This psychological principle challenges the idea that perfection is the ultimate goal in social interactions. Instead, it proposes that a well-timed mistake can make us more likable and relatable.
First identified by social psychologist Elliot Aronson in the 1960s, the Pratfall Effect was demonstrated in an experiment where participants listened to recordings of individuals answering difficult quiz questions. In one condition, the highly competent individual was heard accidentally to make a slip of the tongue. Surprisingly, this "clumsy” version was rated as more likable than the same individual who made no mistake.
Why does this effect occur? It's driven by our desire for relatability and our tendency to feel uncomfortable around those who seem too perfect. When we encounter someone who appears perfect, our brains often go into comparison mode, leading to feelings of inadequacy or distance. But when they make a minor mistake, they become more human — and more likable.
This shift in perception is closely tied to cognitive dissonance(认知失调).When we hold conflictingbeliefs, it creates discomfort. In the case of the PratfalI Effect, the dissonance arises from our admiration for someone's competence and our desire to relate to them. A minor mistake helps resolve this tension, allowing us to maintain our positive view of the person while feeling connected.
In today's digital age, where social media promotes perfection, the effect becomes even more powerful. The constant pressure to present an idealized version of ourseIves online can lead to “comparison fatigue(疲劳)”.We're flooded with highlight videos of others' lives, which can make our own seem lacking in comparison. When influencers or peers share moments of imperfection, it can be incredibly refreshing and relatable.
Ultimately, the Pratfall Effect serves as a powerful reminder of our shared humanity. It tells us that it's not our perfection that draws others to us, but our willingness to be real, to be vulnerable, and to connect on a genuine human level.
32. Which of the following is most likely to cause the Pratfall Effect?
A. A gifted athlete's comfortable win in a tournament.
B. A small kid locks himself outside the house by chance.
C. An excellent singer's sudden voice crack during a concert.
D. An ordinary teenage successfullyscores a goal in a football match.
33. What is the psychological mechanism behind the Pratfall Effect?
A. The need to appear perfect. B.The desire to connect with others.
C.The respect for competence. D. The fear of being judged for mistakes.
34.Why does the Pratfall Effect become more powerful in the digital age?
A. Internet culture values genuineness over perfection.
B. Refreshing highlight videos attract attention more quickly.
C. It is easier for people to find faults with others on the Internet.
D. Social media's advocating perfection brings about comparison fatigue.
35. What is a suitable title for the text?
A.The Pratfall Effect: The Unexpected Magic of Imperfection
B.The Pratfall Effect: The Hidden Burden of Social Interaction
C. Cognitive Dissonance: The Disastrous Power of Digital Discomfort
D
D. Cognitive Dissonance: The Unavoidable Consequence of Comparison

Microplastics are everywhere in the food system, and plastic kitchenware(厨具)is a major source of pollution at home. By one estimate, we on average swallow about 3.8m microplastics annually, many through food. The possiblehealth impacts of microplastic exposure are still coming into focus, but some research has linked them to increased risk of heart attack, for instance. 36 Below are some practical principles to guide you.
You can't avoid microplastics completely. Some plastic will almost certainly end up in your food,no matter what you do. 37 Instead, prioritize the easiest steps you can take to avoid the chemicals, like replacing plastic kitchenware with items made with safer alternatives, such as wood and stainless steel.
38 The level at which plastic gets into hot substances can be rather astonishing.Single-use paper coffee cups can release trillions of bits of plastic when hot liquid is added. Similarly, tea bags can release billions of particles, and microwavable plastic is also a problem.
Reduce plastic, even if you can't totally avoid it. For years, I used a blender(搅拌器)with a big plastic jar to make my morning milkshake, and it recently dawned on me that I was probably getting more plastic than wanted in my milkshake but I couldn't find any plastic-free blenders. It seems a universal practice to use plastic to make them. 39 II ended up switching to a blender with a glass jar.
40 Most household appliances still have some plastic components. In some cases, this is the best version that can be done with the current technology, and that's OK.
A. Avoid heating plastic products.
B. Don't attempt to get rid of every last one.
C. Replace all plastic products with glass ones.
D. However,this doesn't mean I could do nothing.
E. With this in mind, it is wise for you to reduce exposure.
F. You might face the same dilemma when choosing other items.
G. It is time for us to push for complete removal of plastic products.

As a high school student, Tom Potenski had managed to make his way to decent grades at school for the last two years, particularly in physics and history. But now he faced a situation that could collapse his future.
Two weeks ago, Stash Bilesky, his English teacher, had asked the class to do reports on books he recommended. To help each student better understand the book they got, Mr Bilesky also listed some articles for reference. Having taken a quick glance at the author of the assigned book-Leonard Bernstein, Tom put the book into the drawer and left, thinking he had more important things to do.Not a big fan of the art world, Tom had no taste at all for thegreat composer and classical music. As the deadline approached, he decided to take the easy way around the book report. He copied a ready-made summary from the Internet, used AI for polishing and handed it in.
In today's English class, Mr Bilesky handed out everyone's report and made comments on some students' excellent works. Tom waited anxiously for the “A” grade, thinking his report would stand out. However, confidence transformed into fear when Tom found everyone except him had received their corrected book reports back from Mr Bilesky.
After class, Mr Bilesky asked Tom to come over. "Mr Potenski, we have something serious to discuss. Please come to my office after school,” Mr Bilesky said. For the next two classes, Tom had no mind for the lecture, fearing the severe punishment he might face.
The instant school was over, Tom dragged himself towards his teacher's office, with butterflies in his stomach. "Had Mr Bilesky discovered my act of plagiarism(抄袭)? Would this ruin my chances of a somewhat promising career? Would I be trading university classes for working in a rice field?...”After an intense mental struggle, Tom took a deep breath and knocked at the door. “Please come in,”said Mr Bilesky.
注意:
1.续写词数为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
“Was your report written by you independently?” asked Mr Bilesky politely.
For the next week, Tom put his heart and soul into writing his own report.
