David Fisher is good at jumping rope (绳). He has written some children’s books about a hero who jumps rope. Last December, the stories he wrote became a reality.
One winter day, David and his son Felix were outside. Suddenly, Felix heard someone crying for help and quickly told his father. They followed the sound and discovered that their neighbour and his dog had fallen into the icy lake.
David ran to get his jump rope and carefully walked onto the ice to help. Although the ice was cracking (裂开) under his feet, he kept moving forward and finally threw one end of the rope to his neighbour. The young man caught the rope. With the help of Felix, David slowly pulled the neighbour and the dog to a safe place. Then they took the neighbour and his dog home to warm them up.
David has already held three world records for his amazing jumping rope skills. Now he has something even more special because of what he did — the Lifesaving Citizen Award (救生公民奖) from his city!
David hopes that others can do the same thing. “I hope that when a cry for help is heard, everyone can do anything they can to help out,” he said.

Have you ever wondered what makes a good Chinese essay (文章)? Zhang Xiaoran, a ninth-grade student from Hangzhou, provided us with a perfect answer. In March this year, Zhang’s touching essay, Returning Home on the Old Tracks, got a lot of attention online after her Chinese teacher Mr. Wang shared a video of her reading it aloud in class.
The essay beautifully described Zhang’s childhood memories of traveling with her grandparents on a slow train from Hangzhou to her hometown in Inner Mongolia. She compared this experience with the faster but less enjoyable plane trip she took after the green train stopped running. When the train service resumed early this year, Zhang took it again and wrote about the experience with excitement.
What made Zhang’s essay stand out? Well, she didn’t try to use big words or make up a story. Instead, she started from her personal experience and wrote about something simple — a train ride. It described an ordinary (普通的) day, full of warmth and happiness. Through her words, she shared deep feelings about her family, hometown, and the important memories that came with the journey.
Mr. Wang encouraged his students to bring this honesty to their writing — to be brave and express their thoughts instead of copying others or making up stories. Good writing isn’t just about techniques (技巧). It’s about being honest and writing about what truly matters. By writing from the heart, Zhang has shown us the power (力量) of language.
36. What do we know about Zhang Xiaoran?
A. She shared her train ride online. B. She enjoyed the slow train journey.
C. She used to take the green train with her teacher. D. She took the green train to visit her friends.
37. What does the underlined word “resumed” in the second paragraph mean?
A. Started again. B. Became slower. C. Got much better. D. Changed completely.
38. Why was Zhang’s essay excellent?
A. She created an interesting story.
B. She used difficult words and sentences.
C. She described facts without sharing an opinion.
D. She connected her own experience with true feelings.
39. What does Mr. Wang think is important to writing?
A. Copying from famous writers. B. Adding big words to real scenes.
C. Expressing one’s thoughts and feelings. D. Using different kinds of writing techniques.
40. What is the best title for the passage?
A. Useful Chinese writing skills B. A successful writer in Hangzhou
C. The secret to good Chinese writing D. A popular Chinese teacher in Hangzhou
【答案】36. B 37. A 38. D 39. C 40. C

第二节 阅读表达(共5题;每题2分,满分10分)
阅读下面短文,简略回答问题。
Getting around in a new town or city can be challenging, especially if you don’t speak the language. So learning some common words and phrases for public transport (公共交通) can make your travels much easier.
At train or bus stations, you’ll see two main areas: Departures and Arrivals. The departures board shows where trains and buses leave from, while the arrivals board tells people where they arrive. So, if you want to go somewhere, check the departures board to find out which platform (站台) your train or bus is leaving from. Or, you can simply ask, “Excuse me, where is the platform...?”
To buy a ticket, you can ask the station workers, “Could I have a ticket to...?” Many stations have ticket machines, or you can also buy tickets online.
In English-speaking countries, the underground train has different names. In some cities you’ll find it’s called the tube, in others it can be the subway, the underground, or the metro. However, they all mean the same thing.
There is a difference between buses and coaches in English. Buses mean the local bus services, while coaches mean travelling longer distances. If you want to travel from city to city, you should take coaches rather than buses.
When you need help, start with “Excuse me” to ask politely. A more formal (正式的) way to say the same thing is “Pardon me,” but it doesn’t get used as much as “Excuse me.” These simple phrases will help make using public transport less stressful and more enjoyable.
