Where can we probably read this passage? A. In a storybook B. In a travel guide C. In a school notice D. In a science report B From an early age, we were taught that if we wanted to be successful, we had to study hard and get good results at school. In fact, good students may just end up doing jobs they don’t like, and some even lead an unhappy life. Why is it like that? In some parents’ eyes, school grades matter most for their kids. In reality, there are many things to consider besides the school subjects, for example, how to be a happy person, what to do to keep healthy, and how to get along well with others. That is to say, school is not just enough if you want to have a great life. Doing well in school is different from doing well in life. Studies show that people who failed at school may not end up failing in life. You may have already known that some famous people, like Thomas Edison and Steve Jobs, didn’t do very well at school or even failed to finish school. In fact, there are a lot more than just the big shots who are successful in life without finishing school. They seize (抓住) every chance to learn and finally make it to the top. Life is really a long lesson, so long that you can’t define (界定) a person’s success by just one section (部分) of it. If you have already finished school, keep learning because what you have learned at school will never be enough to live a satisfying life. If you are still studying, whether you are good or bad at school, don't take your school results too seriously as long as you have put your heart into it. Keep learning to make the most of your talents (天赋). That’s how you can live a happy and successful life. 5. What’s the writer’s main purpose of writing Paragraph (段落) One? A. To introduce a topic. B. To give examples. C. To provide a solution. D. To make a comparison. 6. In some parents’ eyes, what’s the most important for their kids based on Paragraph Two? A. Being happy. B. Staying healthy. C. Getting good grades. D. Making friends. 7. What does the underlined expression “seize (抓住) every chance” in the third paragraph mean? A. take every chance B. have the chance C. take every challenge D. take every choice 8. According to the passage which sentence may agree with the writer’s idea? A. It takes money to be successful. B. School grades aren’t everything. C. Successful people never finish school. D. We should love and respect our parents. C Preparing for an exam can be stressful, but it doesn’t have to be. There’s no need to stress out or cram (突击准备). By doing a couple of simple things, you will be confident and ready for anything that comes up on the test. ★Start studying early. If the class material is especially difficult for you, start studying early. Give yourself enough time to truly understand the material, practice it and then review it. Get a full night’s sleep before the exam. Your brain needs time to digest everything you’ve put into it, so start early and you don’t have to stay up all night. ★Read through your notes that may be on the exam. It will refresh (唤起) your memory of the material and help you remember what you learnt. It will also help you to know all the information in your notes, including where it is located in your notes, so that you know where to find them, and what might be missing from your notes. ★Get some good notes. If you’re not a good note taker, or there are “holes” in your notes, then ask a friend if you can copy his or her notes. Good notes can make all the difference when you’re studying. They make difficult points easier to understand and remember. ★Ask your teacher about the test material. One of the easiest ways to begin your studying is to find out what is on the test directly from your teacher. Many teachers will provide some guidance on what will and will not be covered on the test. Knowing which material the test will cover can help you focus on the main material that you need to study. 9. What is advised before the exam according to the passage? A. Staying up all night. B. Studying by yourself. C. Reviewing the notes carefully. D. Asking teachers for the answers. 10. How can you solve the “holes” in your notes? A. By going over the notes again. B. By asking friends for good notes. C. By being a good note taker next time. D. By watching videos of teachers on the Internet. 11. We can tell that asking your teacher about the test material ________. A. can make it easier to prepare for the exam B. is not allowed at school C. helps you get some good notes D. makes you worry about the exam 12. What is the structure of the passage? A. B. C. D. D Mars is the fourth closest planet to the Sun. On 23 July 2020, China’s first Mars lander, Tianwen-1, was sent into space from Wenchang, Hainan Island. The spacecraft (航天器) takes its name from an ancient poem by Qu Yuan (340-278 BCE). “Tianwen” means “Questions to Heaven (天)” and expresses China’s determination (决心) to explore the universe. Mars has interested people for thousands of years. Around 3,000 years ago, in ancient China, people already knew about the planet and began to study how it moved in the sky. However, it was difficult to find out more about it before the 20th century. Thanks to the work of scientists, we have learnt a lot about Mars. Spacecraft like Tianwen-1 will help us find out more about our red neighbour. After travelling more than 470 million kilometres, Tianwen-1 reached the red planet on 10 February 2021. The craft circled around the planet for three months before landing on the surface (表面) on 15 May. There, it released (放开) a 240-kilogram rover (天体登陆车) named Zhurong. During the next 100 days, Zhurong drove 1,000 metres on the planet’s surface and continued its travel. It took photos of Mars and studied different kinds of rocks, and then it sent the information back to the Earth. The success of Tianwen-1 is only the beginning of China’s Mars exploration programme. Maybe one day Chinese astronauts will visit Mars. 13. How does the spacecraft Tianwen-1 get its name? A. From questions to heaven. B. From the name of a scientist. C. From a poem by Qu Yuan. D. When Tianwen-l landed on Mars. B. How Zhurong took photos of Mars. C. Where Zhurong sent the information. D. What Tianwen-1 did in the year 2021. 16. What’s the best title for the text? A. Tianwen’s task B. Travelling in space C. Exploring Mars D. Chinese astronauts’ dream E Our road to peace On Sept 3, a big military parade took place in Beijing. Xiong has been blowing sugar figurines (吹糖人) for over twenty years. Blowing sugar figurines is a traditional Chinese folk art with a history of over 600 years and has been listed as a national intangible cultural heritage (国家级非物质文化遗产). Every morning, Xiong prepares the sugar and drives to different markets in Nanchang to start his magic show. He heats the sugar, pulls off a little to make a ball and blows it into different shapes—a rabbit, a monkey, and even a Bing Dwen Dwen, the mascot of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics. People, especially little kids, are interested in his skills. To draw young people closer to the art, he also stops by colleges. Many college students have been drawn to the art, waiting in line for hands-on experience. Among them, Simon, a foreign student, couldn’t help having a try. Though it looked easy, he found it difficult to make it. Thanks to Xiong’s help. Simon finally saw a horse slowly taking shape. Simon was deeply moved after learning about the art. “I just can’t believe the traditional folk art be kept so well here. I love it. Chinese culture should be spread around the world.” he said. This art has been passed down (传承) for four generations (代) in Xiong’s family.
