根据第二段中的“What started as someone challenging me to do something for the community, turned into a day and an event that made me feel like I had never felt before.(起初是有人挑战我为社区做点什么,后来变成了让我感觉前所未有的一天和一次活动。)”
根据第三段中的“The average Black-led nonprofit never makes it to a million in revenue (收入). We did it in 18 months.(平均而言,由黑人领导的非营利组织从未达到百万美元的收入。
根据第四段中的“And then over the years, we’ve tried to continue to figure out how to diversify the revenue so that we can be sustainable.(然后在这些年里,我们一直在努力想办法使收入多样化,以便能够持续发展。)”
根据最后一段“This work has really defined a lot of people’s lives, and above all it’s about joy, happiness, and being OK, knowing that you gave everything you had.(这项工作确实定义了很多人的生活,最重要的是它关乎喜悦、快乐,以及知道你已经竭尽全力后的坦然。)”

根据第二段中的““It showed one of my very favourite books arranged on a table with a glass of wine, set against a square in Florence. The caption (说明文字) asked: ‘Do you enjoy reading books in the places in which they are set ?’” she recalls.
根据第四段中的“Exploring the streets, landscapes and atmosphere of the setting (背景) provides a deep understanding of the story. A scene that was once just words on a page suddenly comes alive when you’ve walked the same alleys, tasted the same food or felt the same light as the characters.
根据第五段中的“This isn’t just niche travel. A 2025 survey reveals that many UK travellers pick destinations for reading, among which Millennials (千禧一代) rise to 60%.
通读全文,尤其是第四段中的“Exploring the streets, landscapes and atmosphere of the setting (背景) provides a deep understanding of the story. A scene that was once just words on a page suddenly comes alive when you’ve walked the same alleys, tasted the same food or felt the same light as the characters. 以及尾段中的“Reading holidays are literal steps through those doors, into new worlds of friendship, curiosity and shared discovery.

根据第三段“Despite confidently using date labels, many consumers misinterpreted the labels and continued to misunderstand even after reading educational messaging that explained the labels’ meaning.(尽管消费者在使用日期标签时表现得相当自信,但他们仍对这些标签产生了误解,即便在阅读了解释标签含义的教育性信息后,他们仍无法完全理解)”可知,研究人员在许多消费者身上发现他们没有意识到自己误解了食品日期标签的含义。
根据第四段“Less than half (46 percent) of study respondents knew that the “BEST If Used By” label specifically indicates that food quality may decline after the date on the label. Less than one-quarter (24 percent) of study respondents knew that the “USE By” label means that food is not safe to eat after the date on the label.(只有不到一半(46%)的受访者知晓“最佳食用期限”标签明确表明食品质量会在该日期过后开始下降。
根据最后一段““Responses to the survey suggest that date labels are so familiar that some consumers believe they are straightforward, or common sense despite misunderstanding the labels,” said Ms. Turvey. “Misplaced confidence and the familiarity of date labels may make consumers less attentive to educational messaging that explains the food industry’s labeling system.”(特维女士表示:“对这项调查的反馈表明,日期标签已经深入人心,以至于一些消费者认为它们简单明了、符合常理,尽管他们对这些标签存在误解。
根据第二段“Does it mean “gone bad — throw it out,” or “might not taste as good as it could anymore?” Food date labels (e.g., “USE By August 16”) can play an important role in helping consumers make informed decisions about food, and ultimately prevent unsafe consumption and waste of food. Researchers surveyed 2,607 adults in the United States to assess consumer understanding of the 2-date labeling system and explore the relative effectiveness of educational messages in increasing understanding.(这到底是指“变质了——扔掉它”呢,还是“可能不再像之前那样美味了”呢?

由上文“More than 30% of Gen Alpha children long to become social media creators, with around 32% of 12‑15 year olds naming “YouTuber” as their dream job.(超过30%的α世代孩子渴望成为社交媒体创作者,约32%的12‑15岁青少年将“油管博主”列为理想职业。)”以及下文“This is where parental involvement becomes not just helpful, but vital, turning the risks into valuable teachable moments.(这时家长的参与就不仅仅是有益,更是至关重要的,可以把风险变成宝贵的教育契机。)” B项“However, this pursuit comes with potential digital risks.(然而,这一(职业)追求伴随着潜在的网络风险。)”
17.由上文“When children express the desire to be online influencers, parents should avoid shutting down their enthusiasm.(当孩子表达想要成为网络博主的愿望时,家长不应浇灭他们的热情。)”以及下文“For example, they can ask why their children want to create online content and what they plan to post.(例如,家长可以问问孩子为什么想要创作网络内容以及打算发布什么。)” F项“Instead, they need genuine conversations to learn about their children’s ideas.(相反,他们需要通过真诚的交谈去了解孩子的想法。)”
18.由上文“They can set up accounts together to adjust privacy settings, turn off location tagging, and set strong passwords. Meanwhile, children must be taught not to share private details such as home addresses, school names and daily schedules.(家长可以和孩子一起注册账号、调整隐私设置、关闭位置标记并设置高安全性密码。 A项“These measures can effectively minimize online risks.(这些措施能够最大限度降低网络风险。)”
19.由上文“As would-be young influencers start gaining visibility, they may be targeted by scams that aim to steal personal data.(当有望成为博主的孩子开始获得关注度时,他们可能成为盗取个人信息骗局的目标。)”以及下文“They also need to recognize ill‑intentioned strangers and dangerous behavior, such as frequent personal messages, requests for secrecy, or pressure to share private photos.(他们还需要识别居心不良的陌生人以及危险行为,例如频繁私信、要求保密或者胁迫发送私密照片。)” E项“Kids should learn to identify suspicious links, fake offers, and other traps.(孩子应当学会识别可疑链接、虚假福利以及其他陷阱。)”
20.由上文“Actually, children’s wish to create online content is a way to express their identity and creativity.(事实上,孩子想要创作网络内容是展现自我与创造力的一种方式。)”以及下文“With proper parental guidance, young creators can build their voice without compromising their safety.(在家长恰当的引导下,年轻创作者既可以发出自己的声音,又不会危及自身安全。)” G项“Parents can support it through open dialogue, practical habits, and risk awareness.(家长可以通过坦诚沟通、养成实用习惯以及树立风险意识来支持孩子。)”

fill...with...
分析句子结构,many of _______ live inactive lifestyles and are continually pressured by office stress是定语从句,先行词为younger people,指人,在从句中作介词of的宾语,空处只能用whom, many of whom表示“他们当中许多人”,引导非限制性定语从句。
whether...or...

I suggest we feature the Mid-Autumn Festival, which is known for its beautiful moon-gazing traditions. My initial idea is to film scenes of making mooncakes, displaying lanterns, and sharing the story through narration and visuals. I’d love to hear your thoughts and ideas.
Would you be available to discuss this further sometime this week? Please let me know what time works best for you.

47.One possible version:
I realized it was me who was at fault. I had been so focused on keeping the party under control that I failed to consider how important Toby was to my brother during this difficult time. My pride had kept me from reaching out, and now months had passed without a proper conversation. One evening, I picked up the phone and left him a voice message, apologizing for my behavior and asking if we could meet. To my relief, he called back the next day, and we agreed to get together soon.
With the biscuits my wife had made, I arrived at my brother’s door. He opened it with a surprised smile, and for a moment, neither of us spoke. Then we hugged — something we hadn’t done since before his wife passed away. We sat on the porch with Toby resting beside us, and I handed him the box of biscuits. “Thank you,” he said quietly. We talked for hours, laughing, remembering old times, and slowly rebuilding what had been lost. As I watched Toby gently rest his head on my brother’s leg, I knew we were finally on the path to healing.

On Juneteenth (六月节) five years ago, a friend came up to me and said, “Hey, what are you doing for Juneteenth?” And I had no idea. You know, I tried to kind of play along, but he said, “No, what are you doing?” And I just said, “I’m going to feed 100 families.”
I didn’t think about it. I don’t know where it came from. And from there it was two fundraising campaigns later and buying 800 pounds of food and bagging chicken leg quarters at four in the morning. What started as someone challenging me to do something for the community, turned into a day and an event that made me feel like I had never felt before.
From there, it was on. It just lit a fire in me. We’re up to 48 employees, about 15 vehicles. We’re opening up a 20,000-square-foot location later this year. We’ve grown in an environment where growth has been difficult. The average Black-led nonprofit never makes it to a million in revenue (收入). We did it in 18 months. As a company, we’ve never been in the red. It’s a social enterprise that is still a business.
Early on, it was really about individual donors and grants (拨款). And then over the years, we’ve tried to continue to figure out how to diversify the revenue so that we can be sustainable. We’ve never missed a payroll. We’ve never lost an employee. We’ve never had a volunteer. I just think that if someone does a job, they should get paid for it. It’s a commitment back to people.
This work has really defined a lot of people’s lives, and above all it’s about joy, happiness, and being OK, knowing that you gave everything you had.

At a restaurant in Florence, a group gathers to discuss Sarah Winman’s Still Life. On the walls hang the photos of the destructive 1966 Arno flood that planted the seed of her story. Participants, once strangers, form a literary circle. This is a new type of holiday centering on reading rather than typical leisure (休闲).
Lyn Margerison, one of the participants, was first drawn to an online advertisement of the Books in Places project and has since travelled from Dorset to Florence, Budapest and beyond. It showed one of my very favourite books arranged on a table with a glass of wine, set against a square in Florence. The caption (说明文字) asked: ‘Do you enjoy reading books in the places in which they are set?’” she recalls.
Books in Places was founded by Paul Wright in 2023. Now he organizes short breaks in the UK and longer journeys to many countries, where people read in the very places stories are set.
“Location is at the heart of everything,” says Wright. “Exploring the streets, landscapes and atmosphere of the setting (背景) provides a deep understanding of the story. A scene that was once just words on a page suddenly comes alive when you’ve walked the same alleys, tasted the same food or felt the same light as the characters.”
This isn’t just niche travel. A 2025 survey reveals that many UK travellers pick destinations for reading, among which Millennials (千禧一代) rise to 60%. Meanwhile, it’s estimated that literary tourism may hit $3.3 bn by 2034. Readers no longer just read by the pool but want reading to open new views of the world: sailing the Nile with Death on the Nile, walking St. Malo while talking about All the Light We Cannot See, and following fossil-hunting paths in Lyme Regis from Remarkable Creatures.
As the author Jeanette Winterson once said, “Books are like doors; when one opens, a new world waits.” Reading holidays are literal steps through those doors, into new worlds of friendship, curiosity and shared discovery.
8.Why did Margerison travel to multiple places ?
A.To visit her friends living abroad.
B.To collect materials for her writing.
C.To experience the settings of her favorite books.
D.To attend professional book discussions.
9.According to Wright, what do participants gain from Books in Places?
A.A real connection to literary worlds. B.A chance to meet famous writers.
C.A stronger bond with local people. D.A better sense of European cultures.
10.What does the underlined word “niche” probably mean in paragraph 5?
A.Common in daily life. B.Centered on famous sites.
C.Available in many countries. D.Limited to specific groups.
11.Which of the following could be a suitable title for the text ?
A.Book Clubs: A New Way of Socializing.
B.Literary Travel: Stepping into the Story.
C.Classic Novels: A Door to Modern Cities.
D.Historic Sites: The Power of Ancient Light.

Misunderstanding food date labeling is common and educational communications are needed to improve consumer understanding, according to a new study.
Does it mean “gone bad — throw it out,” or “might not taste as good as it could anymore?” Food date labels (e.g., “USE By August 16”) can play an important role in helping consumers make informed decisions about food, and ultimately prevent unsafe consumption and waste of food. Researchers surveyed 2,607 adults in the United States to assess consumer understanding of the 2-date labeling system and explore the relative effectiveness of educational messages in increasing understanding.
“Our study showed that a vast majority of consumers say that they use food date labels to make decisions about food and say they know what the labels mean,” said Catherine Turvey, the lead researcher. “Despite confidently using date labels, many consumers misinterpreted the labels and continued to misunderstand even after reading educational messaging that explained the labels’ meaning.”
Less than half (46 percent) of study respondents knew that the “BEST If Used By” label specifically indicates that food quality may decline after the date on the label. Less than one-quarter (24 percent) of study respondents knew that the “USE By” label means that food is not safe to eat after the date on the label.
Researchers explored if framing the messages with values, like saving money or avoiding waste, would impact the effectiveness of messages at increasing consumer understanding. None of the seven value frames tested was significantly more effective at increasing understanding than another, but all messages significantly increased consumers’ general understanding of the labels.
After viewing educational messages, 37 percent of consumers still did not understand the specific meaning of the “BEST If Used By” label and 48 percent did not understand the specific meaning of the “USE By” label.
“Responses to the survey suggest that date labels are so familiar that some consumers believe they are straightforward, or common sense despite misunderstanding the labels,” said Ms. Turvey. “Misplaced confidence and the familiarity of date labels may make consumers less attentive to educational messaging that explains the food industry’s labeling system.”
12.What problem did the researchers find with many consumers?
A.They showed no interest in food date labels.
B.They admitted they knew little about food date labels.
C.They pretended to know much about food date labels.
D.They didn’t realize they misinterpreted food date labels.
13.What does the “BEST If Used By” label indicate?
A.The food is unsafe to eat after the date. B.The food may not be as good after the date.
C.The food must be thrown out after the date. D.The food mustn’t be sold after the date.
14.According to Ms. Turvey, how can we increase consumers’ understanding of date labels?
A.By making the labels less familiar to consumers.
B.By changing the food industry’s labeling system.
C.By creating educational messages about the labels.
D.By drawing consumers’ more attention to the labels.
15.What does the new study involve?
A.Consumer behavior. B.Science education.
C.Shopping strategies. D.Consumption levels.
More than 30% of Gen Alpha children long to become social media creators, with around 32% of 12-15-year-olds naming “YouTuber” as their dream job. 16 This is where parental involvement becomes not just helpful, but vital, turning the risks into valuable teachable moments.
To that end, parents should communicate with kids in a curious and open manner rather than being critical. When children express the desire to be online influencers, parents should avoid shutting down their enthusiasm. 17 For example, they can ask why their children want to create online content and what they plan to post. By showing respect for their kids’ interests, parents build trust and naturally introduce safety topics like privacy settings and online boundaries.
Beyond that, parents should help children develop safe digital habits. They can set up accounts together to adjust privacy settings, turn off location tagging, and set strong passwords. Meanwhile, children must be taught not to share private details such as home addresses, school names and daily schedules. 18
Warning children against hidden online dangers is equally necessary. As would-be young influencers start gaining visibility, they may be targeted by scams that aim to steal personal data. 19 They also need to recognize ill-intentioned strangers and dangerous behavior, such as frequent personal messages, requests for secrecy, or pressure to share private photos.
Actually, children’s wish to create online content is a way to express their identity and creativity. 20 With proper parental guidance, young creators can build their voice without compromising their safety.
A.These measures can effectively minimize online risks.
B.However, this pursuit comes with potential digital risks.
C.Teenagers tend to spend much time watching online videos.
D.Parents should fully understand teenagers’ craze for online creation.
E.Kids should learn to identify suspicious links, fake offers, and other traps.
F.Instead, they need genuine conversations to learn about their children’s ideas.
G.Parents can support it through open dialogue, practical habits, and risk awareness.

My wife and I wanted to share our new home with family and friends by hosting a small gathering in the early summer. She had prepared lots of snacks, while my job was to have the backyard in order.
There was plenty of space for the kids to run and play. There was just one thing I hadn’t counted on: My brother chose to bring his dog Toby, a 50-pound ball of fire. Though friendly, he could easily knock over my niece’s small boys and my six-month-old granddaughter. So, when my brother showed up, I asked him to watch Toby and keep him outside.
My plan was working out just fine. Toby was using up his energy by running back and forth in the backyard and giving the kids plenty of room. Unexpectedly, after supper, the weather changed. It started to rain and everyone went indoors.
It was an awkward moment. I didn’t want Toby to be running around in the house, and my brother wasn’t happy with driving home with a wet dog. Eventually, my brother decided to leave rather than force the issue.
A few days passed, and I hadn’t heard anything from my brother. I texted him and expressed wishes for him to come out again. His reply came as a surprise — a shock, actually: “Not a chance.” Clearly, he was unhappy over the way we had parted. After all, I had left him little choice. Well, he’ll get over it, I reasoned.
Two months passed. My wife suggested I get in touch with my brother, but I resisted, thinking he should call first. However, my conscience (良心) kept bothering me. I tried to put myself in my brother’s shoes. He was facing health issues and his wife of thirty-five years had passed away a few months earlier. Toby was his constant companion, the one who kept him going.
