D. The Reason of Changes in Beijing
Read the text and summarize the main idea and important details.
Great changes have taken place in China since the 1980s. Let’s take Beijing as an example. I have lived in Beijing for a long time, so I can feel how greatly life has changed in this city.
In the past, big families were crowded into small houses. They rode bicycles or took buses to and from work. The streets were narrow, and there weren’t many cars. After work, people usually stayed at home because they didn’t have many leisure activities to relax. People read newspapers to find out what was going on in the world.
Now, Beijing has changed greatly. There are large blocks of modern apartments. The city is bigger with wider streets, and there are many underground lines and lots of cars. Improvements in technology have made smartphones very popular. People can chat with each other or enjoy themselves on their smartphones.
The changes have made Beijing a modern international city. However, some people find the old days more fun. At that time, people were closer, and life was simpler and slower. In any case, we should keep up with the changing world.
