Personality and Personalized AI(人格与个性化AI)
More than a century ago, the Swiss psychiatrist Carl Jung made introversion and extraversion central to his theory of psychological types. Jung's original distinction raises a question in the age of generative artificial intelligence (AI). If people differ in how they naturally orientate themselves towards their inner and outer worlds, should they also use AI differently? 1. ________ He distinguished them by the direction of our interest: towards the subjective, inner world or towards objects and events outside ourselves.
For someone who tends towards introversion, generative AI may provide a useful bridge between private reflection and outward expression. An introvert might have clear ideas in mind but fail to make others understand. 2. ________ Someone can give the AI fragments, contradictions or half-developed thoughts and ask it to question them. The AI can raise questions before the idea is shared with other people, creating a low-pressure space to explore thoughts.
3. ________ AI can supply more conversation, ideas and feedback. Extraverts often collect opinions from others first and then sort out their own ideas. For this personality type, the challenge is separating useful information from noise. Ironically, AI may bring extra noise instead of clearing things up. A better strategy is to order AI to stop producing new ideas and reserve time for independent thinking.
Recent studies show people tend to prefer AI whose style resembles their own personality. 4. ________ Worse still, another study in Science found sycophantic AI, which always agrees with users, may strengthen people's bias and reduce their willingness to solve conflicts. Although users enjoy such conversations, these interactions are not really helpful.
Jung did not regard introversion or extraversion as superior to the other. 5. ________ Instead of only catering to our natural tendencies, personalized AI should help us balance our thinking. The real question is not what AI fits us best, but who we will become through repeated interaction with AI.
选项:
A. For those tending to be extraverted, AI works in nearly the opposite way.
B. In his book Psychological Types, Jung described introversion and extraversion as two orientations.
C. Many introverts find it upsetting when others cannot catch their points.
D. With AI, they do not need to present fully-formed ideas at the very beginning.
E. This reminds us that personality matching in AI is far from simple.
F. AI has already changed how both introverts and extraverts communicate with others.
G. His main warning was against one-sided psychological development.

VR Games as Exercise(VR游戏当作锻炼)
Exercising can be tedious. Video games are fun. What if you could combine them? Playing games while wearing a virtual-reality (VR) headset with motion controllers can be physically demanding. Some VR titles require players to squat, dodge bullets or slice targets to music. 1. ________
The answer is yes, though with caveats. Researchers use MET (metabolic equivalent of task) to measure exercise intensity. Rest equals one MET. Anything over six METs counts as vigorous exercise. Studies show some VR boxing games reach over nine METs, qualifying as high-intensity activity. 2. ________ In an experiment, virtual sports produced almost the same weight-loss effect as real sports over eight weeks among teenagers.
3. ________ The intensity varies greatly among different VR games. For example, Beat Saber is only light exercise. Worse still, ordinary VR games cannot provide real resistance. 4. ________
Researchers from UCLA solved this problem by combining resistance training machines with VR. Players did strength moves such as deadlifts to fight virtual enemies. Two groups trained for four weeks. Those using VR made bigger gains in strength and endurance, and they felt less tired than they actually were.
People usually underestimate their physical effort when exercising in VR and enjoy it more than traditional workouts. 5. ________ Many related studies are small and lack strict control groups. Still, VR exercise is certainly better than no exercise at all.
选项:
A. So they cannot serve the purpose of strength training.
B. But can these VR games really count as proper exercise?
C. However, VR exercise has obvious limits.
D. Another research found VR sports work well for weight loss.
E. Many people prefer traditional exercise to virtual workouts.
F. Yet we are still unsure whether this fun will keep people exercising long-term.
G. New VR games have been designed especially for professional athletes.

Stronger El Niño Linked to Global Warming(厄尔尼诺增强与全球变暖)
Climate change is making El Niño stronger and more dangerous than ever before, scientists warn. New research shows El Niño events have become nearly 40% stronger over the past four decades compared with the preindustrial era. 1. ________ Forecasters are almost certain that the 2026–2027 El Niño will break all previous records.
According to Julia Cole, lead author of the study, the strength of El Niño rises alongside global temperature. 2. ________ It is a natural climate cycle in the Pacific Ocean, switching between warm El Niño phase and cool La Niña phase every 2–7 years. El Niño raises sea surface temperatures in the central and eastern Pacific, disturbing global rainfall and temperature patterns. It can cause disasters worldwide, including droughts, floods and wildfires.
Climate scientists have long suspected that global warming is responsible for stronger El Niños. 3. ________ To solve the problem, researchers studied ancient and modern coral samples from Galápagos Islands, the key region for El Niño activity. By analyzing coral chemistry, they found El Niño has grown more powerful since humans widely used fossil fuels in the 19th century. Climate simulations ruled out natural factors such as volcanic eruptions.
4. ________ As El Niño and global warming reinforce each other, major ecosystems like the Amazon rainforest may suffer permanent changes. Extreme weather events caused by El Niño will become more serious, threatening food security across the globe.
Cole stresses that El Niño is built on top of ongoing global warming. 5. ________ No single country can fully defend itself from its disasters, so cutting fossil fuel use is urgently required.
选项:
A. However, limited data and natural climate changes once prevented firm conclusions.
B. The world is now experiencing a powerful super El Niño.
C. El Niño has brought record high temperatures mainly by itself.
D. El Niño-Southern Oscillation, or ENSO, refers to this Pacific climate cycle.
E. The interaction between El Niño and warming raises serious concerns.
F. So measures must be taken to reduce further global warming.
G. Many countries have already succeeded in stopping fossil fuel use.

Sleep Loss and Anxiety(睡眠不足与焦虑)
We often feel more anxious and stressed when tired. Scientists have partly uncovered why. Lack of sleep prevents our brain from adapting to potentially threatening environments, leaving us in a hyperalert state. 1. ________ It is an evolutionary survival strategy, though less helpful for modern humans. About one third of adults in Western countries suffer from sleep problems weekly, and anxiety disorders and sleep issues affect each other mutually.
Earlier studies found sleep deprivation activates anxiety-related brain areas such as the amygdala. Participants kept awake for 35 hours showed over 60% higher activity in emotional brain centres when viewing negative images. 2. ________ Real threats usually last much longer, so researchers wanted to test emotional adaptation under more realistic conditions.
Emma Sullivan's team carried out an experiment with 54 healthy young adults. Half stayed awake overnight while the other group slept for eight hours. The next morning, all participants entered an immersive virtual environment. 3. ________ Researchers tracked their heart rates and skin conductance, which show whether people are under stress.
All participants felt stressed on their first visit to the threatening virtual basement. 4. ________ Sleep-deprived participants, however, kept the same stress level repeatedly. Long-term hypervigilance caused by poor sleep may turn into pathological anxiety.
Besides, heart rate variability makes a difference. Those with higher heart rate variability felt less anxious despite strong physical stress. 5. ________ Treating sleep problems can ease anxiety. If full sleep cannot be guaranteed, scheduled naps may partly reduce the bad effects of sleep loss.
选项:
A. But those well-rested gradually got used to the repeated threat with lower stress.
B. Our brain treats sleep loss as a signal to turn on emergency survival systems.
C. However, those studies only exposed people to negative pictures for seconds.
D. They moved between a bright office and a dark, scary basement to collect lanterns.
E. Many people fail to realize the connection between sleep quality and mental health.
F. Exercise can improve heart rate variability and serve as a possible intervention method.
G. Lack of sleep has already become the leading cause of serious mental diseases.
参考答案与解析
第一篇 Personality and Personalized AI
答案:1.B 2.D 3.A 4.E 5.G (干扰项:C、F)
VR Games as Exercise
答案:1.B 2.D 3.C 4.A 5.F (干扰项:E、G)
1. B 段尾设问。前文列举多款消耗体力的VR游戏,后文直接给出The answer is yes,B提出疑问,承上启下,是经典设问衔接。
