Liu Yue, 13, is from Hunan. His mum hardly criticizes (批评) him and he always feels good about himself. When a teacher criticized him strictly, he was so down and would cry after school. Even more, he didn’t want to go to school the next day.
Students should do something to make themselves mentally (心理上) strong. A doctor said, “When you are in trouble, don’t ask for help too quickly. You should try to work out problems first by yourself. I also advise you to take part in outdoor activities and social activities so that they can make you mentally strong.”
Growing up is not always happy. Pains also go along with it. The most important thing is to face the pains bravely and learn from them.

Can a robot help slow climate change? For college students Marta Bernardino and Sebastião Mendonça, the answer is yes. The two students created Trovador, a robot that can plant trees in hard-to-reach areas.
Bernardino and Mendonça have a special connection to forests. They grew up playing in the woods near their homes in Portugal, a nation in Europe. But since 1980, wildfires have destroyed large areas of Portugal’s forests. Seeing this, the two wanted to do something. Experts say the main reason for wildfires is climate change. It has caused hotter and drier weather, and as a result, more wildfires happen. So it’s important to bring back forests because trees can help reduce the effects of climate change. However, it is a task that needs long-term work and proper technology to achieve.
That’s exactly what the two did. When Bernardino and Mendonça were in high school, they built the first version (版本) of Trovador. Over time, they kept creating new versions, and each one was better than the last. Trovador now looks like a spider (蜘蛛), and it has six “legs”.
Using the six “legs”, the lightweight robot can easily move up and down Portugal’s steep slopes (陡坡). For humans, these places are difficult to climb. The first version of Trovador could plant trees 28% faster than a human, while the newest one can plant up to 200 young trees each hour. “Trovador can carry young trees on its back and plant them across difficult ground without help,” the two shared.
Bernardino and Mendonça plan to keep improving Trovador. They hope to make the robot cheaper and easier to use, so that people anywhere can use Trovador to plant trees.
7. What encouraged the two students to create Trovador?
A. Their interest in machines.
B. Their wish is to save the forests.
C. Their curiosity about insects.
8. What can we learn about Trovador from paragraph 3?
A. It looks like an insect without legs.
B. It has improved several times over the years.
C. Its first version took many years to finish.
9. What does paragraph 4 mainly talk about?
A. How the robot plants trees.
B. How the robot climbs slopes.
C. The strong abilities of the robot.
10. What can we infer (推断) from the two students’ plan?
A. They will stop developing Trovador.
B. They will only keep Trovador in Portugal.
C. They hope Trovador can come into common use.
【答案】7. B 8. B 9. C 10. C
【解析】
【导语】本文讲述了葡萄牙大学生因森林火灾而创造机器人Trovador,用于在难以到达的地区植树,并不断改进。
【7题详解】
根据第二段“But since 1980, wildfires have destroyed large areas of Portugal’s forests. Seeing this, the two wanted to do something.”及森林火灾对气候的影响,可知他们创造机器人是为了拯救森林。
【8题详解】
根据第三段“they built the first version… Over time, they kept creating new versions, and each one was better than the last.”可知,机器人多年来已多次改进。
【9题详解】
根据第四段“Using the six “legs”, the lightweight robot can easily move up and down Portugal’s steep slopes (陡坡).”和“The first version of Trovador could plant trees 28% faster than a human, while the newest one can plant up to 200 young trees each hour.”可知,本段描述了机器人的移动能力和植树效率,突出其强大功能。
【10题详解】

Strawberries are soft and get hurt easily by light pressure. It can make them out of shape. Nowadays, there are many young people just like strawberries. They easily break down when they face difficulties. They don’t know what to do when they are in trouble. They have a common name—“strawberry kids”.
Why are many students so easy to break down? Parents and schools are the main reasons. Parents do almost everything for them in their daily life, while schools care more about their grades instead of developing their personality.
3. Why do many students become strawberry kids?
A. Teachers criticize them strictly.
B. Kids pay more attention to their grades.
C. Parents and schools don’t help them grow up in the right way
4. Which word can best describe Liu Yue?

B. By solving problems with others.
C. By taking part in outdoor and social activities.

Every day, she cleans the room and carefully arranges the books. She lends books to kids and reads stories to the little ones. Last year, a shy girl named Xiao Hong came. She loved picture books but never talked to others. Grandma Wang sat beside her and read to her every day. Little by little, Xiao Hong began to communicate and even made friends with the kids who read in the reading corner.
Now, the corner has over 800 books. Kind people donate books, and college students volunteer on weekends. Grandma Wang is busier but happier.
