As Tangram Mall (133-33 39th Ave, Btn. Prince St. and College Point Blvd.) — the two story retail component of an enormous new office and residential compound in Downtown Flushing — continues to be built out, its first-floor food hall has already become the main draw. There are a handful of restaurants built throughout the rest of the mall.
Juqi: HOMEMADE ROAST DUCK
It’s enough that you can get Peking duck in a mall. It’s even more impressive that this is one of the crispiest, juiciest versions I’ve had. Order the whole duck, mostly as an excuse to try the caviar-topped (淋满鱼子酱的) duck-skin canapés you’ll get while the chef carves the rest of the bird tableside.
Soft Swerve: HOJICHA ICE CREAM
Its caramel color would suggest coffee, but the maltiness of the roasted tea is a perfect foil for creamy sweetness — and it’s even better to put a chocolate in it.
Na Tart: EGG TARTS
The ideal way to end your visit is a stop at Na Tart for a six-pack of Portuguese egg tarts taken to go. Employees are pulling trays from the oven nonstop, which is good because these pastries are best consumed warm.
CrunCheese: SQUID-INK MOZZA AND HOT DOG
At this first New York branch of a popular Korean chain, get a half-beef, half-mozzarella corn dog dunked in squid-ink stained batter and rolled in cubes of potato confetti. It’s possible to add a final dusting of sugar or cheese, but with everything else going on, I say stick to ketchup.
21.In the restaurant Juqi, why do custemers usually order a whole duck?
A.It will be cheaper to order a whole duck.
B.It will enable you to enjoy duck-skin canapés.
C.It will be the most crispiest and juiciest to enjoy.
D.It will make the chef carve the the rest of the bird for you.
22.Which food mentioned above is better enjoyed while it is hot?
A.EGG TART. B.HOJICHA ICE CREAM.
C.HOMEMADE ROAST DUCK. D.SQUID-INK MOZZA AND HOT DOG.
23.What do the four restaurants have in common?
A.They mainly offer some Asian food.
B.You can enjoy meat food in the four restaurants.
C.They offer some special delicious food or drink.
D.The food in the restaurants tastes better while it is warm.

Dawn breaks over the Pu’er Plateau in southwest China’s Yunnan Province. Martin Visser, 45, is chatting in fluent Mandarin with Hani ethnic farmers in a coffee plantation. “This altitude and soil give the beans a unique taste,” he says. For the former Dutch mechanical engineer, this mountainous region has become both his workplace and home.
Visser’s bond with China took root twenty years ago. A student in Amsterdam then, he fell under the charm of Chinese culture and taught himself to speak Mandarin. “Chinese philosophy, which reflects the harmony of man and nature, has always fascinated me,” he recalls. In 2005, he traveled to Yunnan. The province’s green landscapes, diverse ethnic cultures, and emerging coffee industry captured his heart. “I tasted a cup of local coffee in a village hut — it was rough but full of latency,” he says. With the right techniques, he was sure it could compete with the world’s finest.
What drove Visser to settle and start a business? “China’s open environment and respect for cultural diversity were key,” he explains. He founded Hani Coffee in 2018, blending European roasting techniques with Chinese agricultural wisdom. Government support made his dream workable. “China doesn’t just welcome foreign investors; it nurtures them,” he adds.
Today, Hani Coffee’s products are sold in major Chinese cities and exported to Europe. Visser’s team includes both local farmers and international professionals. He has also established a fair-trade model, ensuring farmers receive 20% higher incomes. “We’re not just selling coffee — we’re building bridges,” he adds. His factory now doubles as a cultural center, where visitors learn about coffee farming and ethnic traditions.
Reflecting on his journey, Visser emphasizes that cultural curiosity was his greatest advantage. “Many foreigners see China as a market, but I see it as a partner,” he says. “The country’s rapid development never sacrifices its cultural roots, and that makes it so attractive for entrepreneurs (创业者). Here, tradition and innovation coexist perfectly.”
24.What does the underlined word “latency” in paragraph 2 mean?
A.Sweetness. B.Attention. C.Potential. D.Poetry.
25.What mainly made Visser open Hani Coffee in Yunnan?
A.The diverse ethnic culture.
B.The ideal investment climate.
C.The high-quality coffee beans.
D.The advanced agriculture skill.
26.Which of the following can best describe Visser’s coffee business?
A.Beneficial and bridge-building. B.Narrow but rewarding.
C.Competitive and profit-driven. D.Traditional but prosperous.
27.What message does the author mainly want to convey in the text?
A.Policies fuel entrepreneurial success.
B.Cultural bonds bring a win-win result.
C.Economic progress protects traditions.
D.Diverse cultures shape a business model.

Search online and you will find countless DIYbio trends that promise healthier aging, from using hyperbaric oxygen therapy to sleeping under red lights. But research from Tufts University points to a much simpler lifestyle change that appears to work: eating slightly fewer calories.
The findings come from CALERIE, short for Comprehensive Assessment of Long-term Effects of Reducing Intake of Energy. In the study, 143 participants tried to reduce their calorie intake by 25% for two years, while 75 others continued eating normally as the control group.
Researchers found notable improvements among the participants who reduced calories. Many shifted their diets away from fats and toward more protein and carbohydrates. Although the group achieved only about a 12% calorie reduction instead of the targeted 25%, they still experienced significant declines in blood pressure, LDL cholesterol, and insulin levels compared with the control group. A paper released earlier this year found that lowering calorie intake did not reduce the overall nutritional quality of participants’ diets.
“The most exciting part is that we saw these benefits with only a moderate level of restriction that’s feasible for most people. It doesn’t have to take extreme measures. For some people, just skipping a large daily sugary coffee drink can do the trick,” says Sai Krupa Das, one of the researchers.
Researchers are still unable to understand exactly why calorie restriction boosts health. One theory is that eating less helps the body generate energy more efficiently while producing fewer reactive oxygen species, unstable molecules (分子) that can damage cells and contribute to diseases ranging from cancer to Parkinson’s disease. One test confirmed that the participants in the calorie restriction group had lower levels of these molecules than the control group.
The CALERIE project is still ongoing. Researchers still do not know whether calorie restriction works best as a permanent lifestyle or as a shorter-term intervention. “I think the follow-up was necessary given such promising results in the primary study, and it is crucial to see how things play out over time,” Das says.
28.What is the effective way to slow aging according to the research from Tufts University?
A.Receiving oxygen treatment.
B.Using red lights while sleeping.
C.Trying various DIYbio methods.
D.Cutting down food calories a little.
29.What do we know about the calorie-cutting participants?
A.They took in much less protein.
B.They quitted before the deadline.
C.Their health indicators turned better generally.
D.Their diets were richer than the control group’s.
30.What does the underlined word “feasible” in paragraph 4 mean?
A.Strange. B.Practical.
C.Suspicious. D.Predictable.
31.Why do researchers carry out further research?
A.To explore long-term effects of calorie restriction.
B.To figure out new approaches to restricting calories.
C.To explain why calorie restriction improves health.
D.To detect how reactive oxygen species harm health.

Can AI chatbots offer reliable diet advice for teenagers? A recent study suggests the answer is negative. Researchers conducted an investigation into AI-generated weight-loss meal plans for adolescents. They input diet-loss requests from fictional 15-year-old users into five widely used free AI chatbots. Afterwards, they compared these AI-produced meal plans with those professionally designed by qualified dietitians
The findings, published in Frontiers in Nutrition, revealed significant risks. Though AI-designed diet plans appear reasonable on the surface, they follow a dangerous nutritional pattern. These plans are extremely low in calories and carbohydrates, yet they advise excessive intake of protein and fat. Statistically, AI meal plans contain roughly 700 fewer calories daily than professional ones, equal to the calorie intake of a full missed meal.
Such unbalanced diet guidance is extremely risky for teenagers. As Betül Bilen, a leading nutrition scientist, puts it, adolescence is a critical stage for physical growth, bone formation and brain development. Severe calorie restriction may disturb these vital developmental processes and increase the possibility of disordered eating.
Furthermore, health professionals state that AI lacks the holistic approach of human experts. Professional dietitians take multiple key factors into account, including teenagers’ medical history, financial budget, family environment and emotional state. However, chatbots fail to automatically analyze these complex variables (变量). Worse still, if AI strengthens teenagers’ unhealthy beliefs about weight loss, it will create greater barriers to clinical (临床的) treatment.
Although digitally skilled teenagers tend to double-check online information instead of following it blindly, the study raises widespread concern. As more adolescents seek life guidance from AI, the line between beneficial technological help and potential health hazards becomes blurred. Further research is required to explore how AI tools affect teenagers’ long-term eating behaviors in real life.
32.How does the author start the passage?
A.By describing a personal experience.
B.By posing a question and answering it.
C.By explaining a common phenomenon.
D.By comparing two different viewpoints.
33.What can we infer from the findings in the study of Frontiers in Nutrition?
A.Low calorie intake benefits teens’ weight loss.
B.AI meal plans may do harm to teenagers’ health.
C.Professional diets are less scientific than AI ones.
D.Teenagers prefer AI chatbots to professional dietitians.
34.What does the underlined word “holistic” in paragraph 4 probably mean?
A.Comprehensive. B.Creative. C.Accessible. D.Efficient.
35.What is the author’s main purpose of writing the text?
A.To introduce the AI chatbots for diet advice.
B.To compare AI with professional diet guidance.
C.To advocate further AI technology improvement.
D.To warn teenagers of hidden risks of AI diet advice.

As you know, your bones are living tissue. 36 When the growth of new bone tissue does not keep up with the loss of old bone tissue, you may develop a medical condition called osteoporosis
Normal bones have many tiny holes. With osteoporosis, the bones become so thin in places that even a simple cough can result in a bone fracture (骨折). About 200 million people worldwide have osteoporosis. Health experts say that number will increase greatly as more people get older. 37 Usually, people get osteoporosis for a lack of calcium or vitamin D.
Even people who exercise often can have low bone density. This can lead to osteoporosis. Take cyclist Dean Hargett as an example. Every week, Hargett bikes more than 160 kilometers. This exercise benefits his heart, but it does little for his bones. He was surprised when the doctors told him that he had low bone density. 38
To help your bones stay healthy, the National Osteoporosis Foundation in the US suggests doing weight-bearing and muscle-strengthening exercises. 39 They are dancing, hiking, jogging, running, jumping rope, stair climbing and tennis. For muscle-strengthening exercises, it suggests lifting weights.
40 Get enough calcium and vitamin D.New research shows that vitamin K may also be good for your bones. Good sources of vitamin K include dark leafy greens. In daily life, cut down on your salt use and avoid too much soda as well. These two substances can affect how your body uses calcium.
A.After all, everyone’s bones weaken with age.
B.And they’re always breaking down and regrowing.
C.Osteoporosis can be prevented according to experts.
D.Remember that what you put into your body matters too.
E.There are examples of high-impact weight-bearing exercises.
F.So, even if you’re very active, that doesn’t mean you have strong bones.
G.All in all, unhealthy lifestyles have a negative impact on your bone health.

Kate had always loved watching her mother make scrambled eggs (炒蛋) with tomatoes. The pan, the red and yellow colors, the sweet and acid smell-it all seemed easy. When school announced a cooking competition for students. Kate didn’t hesitate. She signed up, determined to make her mother’s signature dish. “I’ve watched Mom do it a hundred times.” she told herself, “How hard can it be?”
Saturday morning arrived, and the sun had just risen. Kate’s parents were still fast asleep. Perfect time to practice, she thought. She walked to the kitchen, tied on an apron (围裙), and took a deep breath. First, she washed two tomatoes and cut them into pieces. But the knife slipped, and some were too big, some were pressed into juice. “Still okay,” she said.
Next, she cracked two eggs into a bowl. Unfortunately, a small piece of eggshell fell into the bowl. She fished it out with a spoon, but tiny bits remained. She decided to ignore them. She beat the eggs with a fork, making some mixture leave the desktop.
Then came the stove. She poured oil into the pan and turned the heat to high-just like Mom did. While waiting for the oil to warm, she started cutting an onion, but the strong smell made her eyes water. When she finally looked up, the oil was smoking. In a panic, she put the tomatoes in. A loud noise exploded, and hot oil got onto her wrist. “Ouch!” she shouted, jumping back. A small red mark appeared on her skin.
The tomatoes were already turning dark and sticking to the pan. She quickly poured in the egg mixture. The eggs hit the hot pan and boiled wildly. She mixed like mad, but everything turned into a brown, mushy mess. The bitter smell must have traveled upstairs. Kate looked around in disappointment.

【答案】17.A 18.B 19.A 20.B
W: Hello everyone! Welcome to Global Flavors. Today, we’re talking about coffee. It likely began in Africa and was grown in Yemen by the 6th century. Traders brought it to Europe, but people were unsure of it at first, and it gradually won acceptance, Coffee quickly spread across the continent after that. By the 1600s, coffeehouses opened in London, Paris, and Vienna. After the 1773 Boston Tea Party, Americans switched to coffee. Coffee only grows in hot areas near the equator. The red cherries are processed in two ways. In the dry method, they’re dried whole in the sun. In the wet method, workers first remove the soft part around the beans, then leave them in water before washing and drying them. This results in better quality coffee. Roasting usually happens in importing countries to bring out flavor. Most coffee comes from two types of coffee plant. Arabica grows high up and tastes rich. Robusta grows lower, has more of the stimulating substance, and is used in cheaper coffee and instant coffee. The best instant coffee is freeze-dried and cheaper ones are spray-dried.
A
As Tangram Mall (133-33 39th Ave, Btn. Prince St. and College Point Blvd.) — the two story retail component of an enormous new office and residential compound in Downtown Flushing — continues to be built out, its first-floor food hall has already become the main draw.
【答案】21.B 22.A 23.C
根据Juqi: HOMEMADE ROAST DUCK部分中“Order the whole duck, mostly as an excuse to try the caviar-topped (淋满鱼子酱的) duck-skin canapés you’ll get while the chef carves the rest of the bird tableside. (点整只鸭子,主要是作为一个借口,当厨师在餐桌边切剩下的鸭子时,你会品尝到淋满鱼子酱的鸭皮小吃。)”可知,顾客通常点整只鸭子是因为这样可以品尝鸭皮小吃。故选B项。
22.细节理解题。根据Na Tart: EGG TARTS部分中“Employees are pulling trays from the oven nonstop, which is good because these pastries are best consumed warm. (员工们不停顿地从烤箱里取出托盘,这很好,因为这些甜点最好是趁热吃。)”可知,蛋挞最好是趁热的时候品尝。故选A项。
根据Juqi: HOMEMADE ROAST DUCK部分中“It’s enough that you can get Peking duck in a mall. It’s even more impressive that this is one of the crispiest, juiciest versions I’ve had. (在商场里吃到北京烤鸭就够了。更令人印象深刻的是,这是我吃过的最酥脆多汁的一种。)”、Soft Swerve: HOJICHA ICE CREAM部分“Its caramel color would suggest coffee, but the maltiness of the roasted tea is a perfect foil for creamy sweetness — and it’s even better to put a chocolate in it. (它的焦糖色让人联想到咖啡,但烘焙茶的麦芽味完美地衬托了奶油般的甜味——如果再加一块巧克力就更好了。)”、Na Tart: EGG TARTS部分中“Employees are pulling trays from the oven nonstop, which is good because these pastries are best consumed warm. (员工们不停顿地从烤箱里取出托盘,这很好,因为这些甜点最好是趁热吃。)”和CrunCheese: SQUID-INK MOZZA AND HOT DOG部分中“At this first New York branch of a popular Korean chain, get a half-beef, half-mozzarella corn dog dunked in squid-ink stained batter and rolled in cubes of potato confetti.

【答案】24.C 25.B 26.A 27.B
根据画线词的上文“I tasted a cup of local coffee in a village hut — it was rough (我在一个村舍里品尝了一杯当地咖啡——它很粗糙)”和下文“With the right techniques, he was sure it could compete with the world’s finest. (凭借正确的技术,他确信它可以与世界顶级咖啡竞争。)”可知,当地咖啡虽然粗糙,但Visser认为正确的技术可以将其品质提升到顶级,说明这种咖啡具有很大的潜力,画线词的意思应该是“潜力”,与Potential“潜力,可能性”意思一致。
25.细节理解题。根据第三段中“What drove Visser to settle and start a business? “China’s open environment and respect for cultural diversity were key,” he explains… Government support made his dream workable. (是什么促使Visser定居并创业?“中国的开放环境和对文化多样性的尊重是关键,”他解释道……政府的支持使他的梦想成为可能。)”可知,主要促使Visser在云南开设Hani Coffee的原因是理想的投资环境。
26.推理判断题。根据第四段中“He has also established a fair-trade model, ensuring farmers receive 20% higher incomes. “We’re not just selling coffee — we’re building bridges,” he adds. His factory now doubles as a cultural center, where visitors learn about coffee farming and ethnic traditions. (他还建立了一个公平贸易模式,确保农民收入提高20%。“我们不仅在销售咖啡,更是在搭建桥梁,”他补充道。如今,他的工厂也变成了一个文化中心,游客可以在这里了解咖啡种植和民族传统。)”可知,Visser的咖啡业务既惠及农民,又促进文化交流,是有益且搭建桥梁的。
27.推理判断题。通读全文,尤其是最后一段“Reflecting on his journey, Visser emphasizes that cultural curiosity was his greatest advantage. ‘Many foreigners see China as a market, but I see it as a partner,’ he says. ‘The country’s rapid development never sacrifices its cultural roots, and that makes it so attractive for entrepreneurs (创业者). Here, tradition and innovation coexist perfectly.’”(回顾自己的经历,维瑟强调文化好奇心是他最大的优势。‘很多外国人把中国看作一个市场,但我视它为合作伙伴,’他说。‘这个国家的快速发展从未牺牲其文化根基,这使它对企业主来说极具吸引力。在这里,传统与创新完美共存。’”可知,Visser因对中国文化的热爱而扎根,创办Hani Coffee公司,既成就了事业,也促进了当地发展和文化交流。因此,作者主要想传达的信息是“文化纽带带来双赢结果”。

【答案】28.D 29.C 30.B 31.A
根据第一段中“But research from Tufts University points to a much simpler lifestyle change that appears to work: eating slightly fewer calories. (但塔夫茨大学的研究指出一种更简单的生活方式改变似乎有效:稍微少吃点卡路里。)”可知,根据塔夫茨大学的研究,延缓衰老的有效方法是稍微减少食物卡路里的摄入。
29.细节理解题。根据第三段中“Although the group achieved only about a 12% calorie reduction instead of the targeted 25%, they still experienced significant declines in blood pressure, LDL cholesterol, and insulin levels compared with the control group. (尽管该组仅实现了约12%的热量减少,未达到目标的25%,但与对照组相比,他们的血压、低密度脂蛋白胆固醇和胰岛素水平仍显著下降。)”可知,减少卡路里的参与者的健康指标总体上变好了。
30.词句猜测题。根据画线词的下文“It doesn’t have to take extreme measures. For some people, just skipping a large daily sugary coffee drink can do the trick (不必采取极端措施。对某些人来说,只需每天少喝一大杯含糖咖啡就足以达到效果。)”可知,实现这些好处无需极端措施,仅改变微小的日常饮食习惯就可以,说明这对大多数人来说是可行的,画线词的意思是“可行的,办得到的”,与Practical“切实有效的,切实可行的”意思接近。
31.细节理解题。根据最后一段中“Researchers still do not know whether calorie restriction works best as a permanent lifestyle or as a shorter-term intervention. “I think the follow-up was necessary given such promising results in the primary study, and it is crucial to see how things play out over time,” Das says. (研究人员仍然不清楚热量限制是作为长期生活方式还是短期干预措施效果最佳。“考虑到初步研究结果非常有希望,我认为后续随访是必要的,而且观察其长期发展情况至关重要,”Das说。)”可知,研究人员进行进一步研究是为了探索卡路里限制的长期效果。

【答案】32.B 33.B 34.A 35.D
根据第一段中“Can AI chatbots offer reliable diet advice for teenagers? A recent study suggests the answer is negative. (AI聊天机器人能为青少年提供可靠的饮食建议吗?一项近期研究表明答案是否定的。)”可知,文章开篇抛出问题,随后给出否定回答。
33.推理判断题。根据第二段中“Though AI-designed diet plans appear reasonable on the surface, they follow a dangerous nutritional pattern. These plans are extremely low in calories and carbohydrates, yet they advise excessive intake of protein and fat. Statistically, AI meal plans contain roughly 700 fewer calories daily than professional ones, equal to the calorie intake of a full missed meal. (尽管AI设计的饮食计划在表面上看起来合理,但其遵循着一种危险的营养模式。这些计划热量和碳水化合物极低,却建议摄入过多的蛋白质和脂肪。据统计,人工智能饮食计划比专业饮食计划每天少摄入大约700卡路里,相当于错过一顿饭的卡路里摄入量。)”可知,研究发现AI饮食计划热量过低、营养失衡,表明这可能对青少年的健康造成伤害。
34.词句猜测题。根据画线词的下文“Professional dietitians take multiple key factors into account, including teenagers’ medical history, financial budget, family environment and emotional state. (专业营养师会综合考虑多个关键因素,包括青少年的病史、经济预算、家庭环境以及情绪状态。)”可知,人类专家会考虑多方面因素,采用整体的方法制定营养计划,而AI欠缺这种方法,画线词意思应该是“整体的,全面的”,与Comprehensive“全面的,综合的”意思相近。
35.推理判断题。通读全文,尤其是第一段中“Can AI chatbots offer reliable diet advice for teenagers? A recent study suggests the answer is negative. 第二节(共5小题:每小题2. 5分, 满分12. 5分)

Admittedly, takeout food offers undeniable convenience for busy high school students, saving valuable time for study. However, I firmly believe its drawbacks are more concerning. Firstly, many delivery options are high in fat and salt, posing serious health risks like obesity. Furthermore, the reliance on takeout contributes to excessive plastic waste, harming the environment. It can also foster laziness and unhealthy eating habits. Therefore, while a convenient option, students should limit their dependence on takeout for their long-term well-being.

注意:
(1)续写词数应为150个左右;

The competition day arrived, and her parents also came to watch.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Just then, her mom’s voice came from the doorway. “Oh, my dear, what happened here?” Mom hurried over and gently took Kate’s wrist. “It’s nothing,” Kate whispered, but her eyes were wet. Mom smiled and turned the heat to medium. “High heat is the enemy of eggs,” she said. “Watch me.” She cracked two eggs cleanly and poured them into the warm oil. The eggs spread golden and smooth. “Now you try,” Mom said. Kate took a deep breath and copied her mother. This time, the eggs didn’t burn — they were a little dry, but much better. “Good,” Mom smiled. “You’re learning. Keep practicing.” The competition day arrived, and her parents also came to watch. Kate’s heart pounded as she set her station. Just as she poured the oil, the stove’s heat fluctuated — a burner problem. Had she not practiced with her mom, she would have panicked. Instead, she lowered the pan and waited. The oil shimmered at the right moment. She added tomatoes, then eggs, stirring gently. The red and yellow swirled perfectly. Her mother’s words echoed: “Cooking is like life — adjust as you go.” When the judge tasted her dish, Kate didn’t look at the score. She saw her parents’ proud smiles. That, she knew, was the real prize.
