In Yunnan province, 42 wild Asian elephants have come to the countryside. They move between forests and farms, and sometimes come close to villages.
The elephants belong to three groups. They have been feeding in the fields near Zhushan village in Mengxian. Their coming is a sign that nature is getting better, but it also brings the challenge of living with them.
Since April, the elephants have become a common sight in Mengxian. Their number reached 42 on Sunday, up from nine on August 14.
Fu Chun, a man of 50, has watched the elephants for more than ten years. Each day, he follows them and tells people to keep away from the places where they stay. The information is shared in WeChat groups, telling people to stay away.
The local government also helps. Farmers can get money when elephants eat their plants.
