Nowadays, teenagers’ growth and pocket‑money management draw lots of social attention. Many teenagers are full of creativity. Some take part in puppet performances, some join volunteer groups and others show their talent in different art forms. However, quite a few teenagers do not have good habits in dealing with pocket money.
Some teenagers from wealthy families spend money without thinking. They buy expensive laptops or other fancy things just because their classmates have them. They seldom make a budget and hardly realise the real value of money.
Educators give some useful advice for teenagers. First, make a clear budget for your pocket money every month. Second, form good saving habits. In April 2019, the world saw the first-ever picture of a black hole, a historic moment in space science. The image showed a bright ring of light around a dark center. This black hole lies at the center of the M87 galaxy, about 55 million light-years away from Earth. This great success was made by the Event Horizon Telescope (EHT). It is a global network of radio telescopes that turns the whole Earth into a large virtual telescope.
By connecting and coordinating (协同) telescopes from Hawaii to the South Pole, scientists finally observed this faraway object. It looks as tiny as a tennis ball on the moon from Earth. The supermassive black hole has a mass (质量) 6.5 billion times that of the Sun. The real picture perfectly matched the predictions from Einstein’s general theory of relativity. It clearly proved that a black hole’s shadow is round. The observation also helped researchers study the black hole’s event horizon, a special boundary where nothing, not even light, can escape its strong gravity.
This amazing achievement was a result of global cooperation. China joined the international project with its Submillimeter Telescope and other related equipment. To capture the rare image, the EHT team gathered data from eight observatories across four continents. They used precise atomic clocks to keep all telescope signals synchronized. The data volume was extremely large, so researchers could not send it online and had to use hard drives for delivery. After years of careful and difficult data processing, the clear bright ring shape of the black hole finally appeared.
The milestone discovery offers powerful proof for general relativity and confirms that black holes are not just imaginary theoretical objects. The bright ring around the black hole is formed by super-hot gas spinning fast into the black hole, with its light bent by the black hole’s huge gravity. The EHT’s success has created a new method for black hole research. Future scientific tasks will focus on recording videos to show how materials fall into these mysterious cosmic (宇宙的) objects. This historic image satisfies human curiosity about the universe and brings more new questions about the nature of space and time.
31.What can we know about the black hole in the picture?
A.It is 55 million light-years away from the Sun. B.Its shadow is square in shape.
C.Its mass is far heavier than that of the Sun. D.It lies in the center of the solar system.
32.What does the author mainly want to tell us in paragraph 3?
A.The advanced equipment used in the project.
B.The efforts and joint work behind the photo.
C.The long history of international cooperation.
D.The reasons why data transmission failed.
33.What can we infer from the passage?
A.Global cooperation played an important role.
B.EHT data can be sent through the Internet easily.
C.The picture fully disagreed with Einstein’s theory.
D.Scientists have made videos of materials falling into black holes.
34.What is the author’s attitude towards the black hole discovery?
A.Doubtful. B.Negative. C.Uncaring. D.Admiring.
35.What is the main idea of the whole passage?

B.Different ways to collect cosmic data by telescopes.
C.The basic rules of Einstein’s general theory of relativity.
D.The process, achievement and significance of the first black hole picture.
Choosing a School Role Model
A student council published the following rule: “Choose the person whose actions have enabled others to grow. Awards may be evidence, but they are not a requirement.”
Candidate 1—Chen Bo: organized a one-day charity sale that collected 8,000 yuan; invited local media; no follow-up record.
Candidate 2—Han Lu: has tutored two younger students every Tuesday for eighteen months; created progress notes with their permission; helped both become volunteer tutors.
Candidate 3—Qiu Meng: won three national science prizes; gives excellent speeches; team members report that she rarely shares unfinished ideas.
Candidate 4—Wei An: noticed that color-only signs confused some visitors; worked with six users to redesign signs with shapes and words; published the test results, including two failed versions.
The council asked voters to use three questions: Is there clear evidence of repeated or meaningful action? Did the person work with, rather than simply for, others? Did the action create an effect that can continue? Voters could choose more than one candidate but had to cite evidence.

look up“查阅;向上看”、pick up“捡起;学会”、turn up“调大;出现”均不符合“面对挑战不退缩” 的语境。
Where there is a will, there is a way.

36.Which candidate shows the clearest continuing chain of growth?
A.Chen Bo, because the sale was reported by the media.
B.Qiu Meng, because prizes are the only evidence.
C.Han Lu, because the students she helped later helped others.
D.Wei An, because signs never need further testing.
37.Which detail may weaken Chen Bo’s case under the council’s questions?
A.There is no record of what happened after the one-day action.
B.The amount collected was too exact.
C.Charity sales are not meaningful.
D.Local media attended.
38.Why might Qiu Meng’s prizes be insufficient by themselves?
A.The rule rejects all awards.
B.Science prizes cannot be verified.
C.Speeches are always harmful.
D.The criteria also value cooperation and enabling others.
39.What quality is best shown by Wei An’s work?
A.A desire to avoid all feedback.
B.User-centered responsibility and honesty about failure.
C.Private competition.
D.Dependence on color-only signs.
40.Why must voters cite evidence?
A.To ensure only one candidate can win.
B.To enlarge the candidate list.
C.To make choices based on actions rather than popularity alone.
D.To replace the council’s questions.
【答案】36.C 37.A 38.D 39.B 40.C
第一段提到“Choose the person whose actions have enabled others to grow.”,这直接说明了评选标准是选择那些行动能让他人成长的人。第三段提到“Han Lu: has tutored two younger students... helped both become volunteer tutors.”,这直接说明了韩璐辅导的学生后来也成为了志愿者导师,体现了持续的成长链条。
37.第二段提到“Chen Bo: organized a one-day charity sale... no follow-up record.”
38.根据规则“Choose the person whose actions have enabled others to grow”以及投票问题“Did the person work with, rather than simply for, others?” 根据第四段“team members report that she rarely shares unfinished ideas.”
39.第五段提到“Wei An... published the test results, including two failed versions.”,这直接说明了魏安的工作展现了以用户为中心的责任感以及对失败的诚实态度。
40.最后一段提到“Did the action create an effect that can continue? Voters could choose more than one candidate but had to cite evidence.”,学生会要求投票者引用证据是为了确保投票是基于候选人的具体行动和是否符合评选标准,而不是仅仅基于名气或人气。
