Passage1
In December 2025, Saihanba forest farm successfully passed a Forest Management Certification It acts as a “green pass”, helping Saihanba’s forest products enter global markets.
Located in Hebei Province, Saihanba has experienced an amazing change. By the late 1950s, centuries of overgrazing (过度放牧) and logging (伐木) had made it into a desert. With sandstorms threatening the capital and other northern cities, China decided to bring it back to life. Today, it is the world’s largest man‑made forest.
This success comes from the hard work of three generations (代) of foresters. In 1962, the first group of 369 foresters arrived there to plant trees, most of whom were in their 20s. “Working in the forest, you have to work hard no matter what the conditions are,” a worker said. Today, a new generation is taking on new challenges. They are using scientific methods to improve the forest. For example, they are planting mixed tree species to make the forest stronger against fire, pests (害虫) and climate change.
Over the years, these foresters have turned the desert into a green sea. The forest coverage (覆盖率) has increased from 11 percent to 82 percent. They also take pride in the “Saihanba Spirit”, which means remembering why they started, working hard and trying new things, and developing in a green way. In 2017, Saihanba won the UN’s highest environmental honour. Saihanba proves that strong will and science can turn poor land into green places. It sets a powerful example for green development, offering hope to China and other countries around the world.

Teenagers today are full of creativity and energy. Many of them are using their talents to make a difference in their communities. Here are two inspiring stories.
Lin Tao’s Story
Lin Tao, a 15-year-old student from Zhejiang, loves programming. Last year, he noticed that his grandparents had difficulty remembering to take their medicine on time. To help them, Lin spent three months creating a smart medicine box. The box has a timer and plays a gentle melody when it's time to take the medicine. It also sends a message to the family’s phone if the medicine isn’t taken within 30 minutes. Lin's grandparents now use the box every day, and they say it has made their lives much easier. Lin's invention won the first prize in a local youth innovation competition.
Wang Mei’s Story
Wang Mei, 14, from Sichuan, is passionate about environmental protection. She started a “Green School Project” in her school. With the help of her teachers, she organised a team of 20 students to collect plastic bottles and paper for recycling. Passage1
Green City: A Model for Living Green
Green City is a small city in England. It has become a model for living green around the world. Here are some of its successful measures.
First, the city encourages people to use public transport. There are many buses and trams that run every five minutes. People can take them for free if they have a local ID card. This reduces the number of cars on the road and cuts down carbon emissions.
Second, the city has a strict waste recycling system. Every family must separate their waste into four groups: paper, plastic, glass and food. Workers come to collect the waste every week. The food waste is turned into fertilizer for local farms.
Third, most buildings in Green City use solar energy. The roofs of schools, hospitals and offices are covered with solar panels. This provides more than 50% of the city’s electricity.
Finally, the city has planted more than 10,000 trees in the past five years. These trees not only make the city look beautiful but also improve the air quality.

Science and the Environment
Our planet is facing many environmental challenges, including climate change, pollution, and the loss of natural resources. Science plays a crucial role in understanding these problems and finding solutions.
One of the most important areas where science helps is in understanding climate change. Scientists study the atmosphere, oceans, and land to figure out how the Earth's climate is changing. They use models to predict future changes and help governments make decisions about reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Science also helps us find cleaner sources of energy. Solar panels, wind turbines, and electric vehicles are all products of scientific research. They produce less pollution than fossil fuels and help protect the environment. In addition, scientists are working on new technologies to capture and store carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.
Another area where science makes a difference is in waste management. Scientists have developed better ways to recycle materials and reduce waste. They are also studying how to clean up pollution in oceans and rivers.
With the help of science, we can build a cleaner, healthier planet for future generations. However, it also requires effort from everyone—governments, businesses, and individuals—to put this knowledge into practice.

Passage3
Nature gives us air, water, food and beauty. 1 If every middle school student does a few small things, we can help the earth breathe again.
2 Turn off lights, TVs, computers when you leave the room. Use LED bulbs, take the bus or ride a bike instead of driving a car. One bus means fewer cars and less smoke.
Save water. Close the tap while you brush your teeth. A running tap can waste twenty liters of water a day-enough to fill one hundred cups. 3 . Rainwater is free, and your flowers love the natural softness.
Reduce waste. 4 Say no to plastic straws (吸管) and bags. Sort garbage: paper, plastic, metal and food.
5 Never pick wild flowers or dig up grass. Plant one tree each year, and it will give home to insects and clean the air for us.
Tell others. Share photos, make posters or give a talk in class. When more people care, our earth will smile again.
A.Save energy.
B.We should love our school.
C.Protect plants and animals.

Passage4
Water in the middle of a desert sounds good. But the Dead Sea does not hold water that people or animals can drink. The Dead Sea is the saltiest place on Earth. 41 It is called a sea because it does not have freshwater.
2 The Dead Sea lies in a closed area with no way out. More than three million years ago, salt water from the Mediterranean Sea flowed into it. Today, rivers still bring water into the Dead Sea, but the water cannot flow out. Some of the water evaporates (蒸发) in the hot sun, and salt is left behind.
Lakes are usually filled with plants and animals. 3 Nothing can survive in its salty water. There is no seaweed. If fish from the river swim into the Dead Sea by mistake, they die quickly. The water is so salty — it is at least seven times saltier than seawater—that it can kill almost everything.
4 One of the main must-do activities on all tourists’ lists is floating in the Dead Sea. It is actually harder to stand in the Dead Sea than it is to float. Some tourists even like to read books as they float on top of the water.
However, the Dead Sea does not always exist. 5 Because of climate change and human activities, its water level has dropped by about 8 feet in the past 40 years. If this situation continues, the Dead Sea may completely disappear in the future.
The Dead Sea may not have much life, but it is an experience that should be part of yours.
A.It is really a lake.
B.Where is the Dead Sea?
C.In fact, it is slowly disappearing.
D.So, why is the water in the Dead Sea so salty?
E.But the Dead Sea is everything its name suggests.
F.Tourists love the Dead Sea for its amazing experience.
G.Floating on the Dead Sea is a fun experience for people of all sizes.
【答案】 1.A 2.D 3.E 4.F 5.C

42.后文描述了死海的地理成因,包括三百万年前地中海盐水流入以及河流注水无法流出、水分蒸发后盐分留下的过程,D选项“So, why is the water in the Dead Sea so salty?”
3.前文指出湖泊通常充满植物和动物,后文说明死海咸水中没有任何生物能存活,E选项“But the Dead Sea is everything its name suggests.”
4.后文指出游客清单上的主要活动之一是在死海中漂浮,并说明在死海中站立比漂浮更难,F选项“Tourists love the Dead Sea for its amazing experience.”

People in Green City are proud of their city. They say living green is not difficult—it’s just about making small changes every day.

Passage2
1.What is one of the main environmental challenges mentioned in the passage?
A.Overpopulation. B.Climate change.
C.Deforestation. D.Ocean acidification.
2.How does science help with climate change?

D.However, today it is in danger.
E.Collect rainwater to water flowers.
F.Bring your own bottle and lunch box.
G.My grandmother likes planting flowers.
