Tobie Spears has always had a strong desire to travel.Right after her high school
graduation, she explored Europe with a friend, relying on simple plans and kindness from
strangers. This eye-opening journey made her realize how fortunate she was and that small
acts filled with love could create a lasting, positive influence on people in need.
Later,Spears and her husband travelled to Guatemala,a country blessed with green
jungles,crystal-clear lakes and rich cultural heritage.Although the local people were
warm and cheerful, greeting visitors with bright smiles, they lived in difficult conditions.
Many families suffered from constant food shortages, children had limited access to
education, and most villagers lacked skills to support themselves independently.
Determined to bring long-term,meaningful changes,Spears refused to offer only
temporary handouts. She and her husband rented a small house in a village and started
teaching practical skills, focusing on three key areas:nutrition,self-sustainability and

income opportunities. They taught efficient vertical()gardening to maximize crop
yields, basic sewing to make and sell clothes, and simple resource management to save money.
As the programme developed,Spears set up a nonprofit organization named Be
Humanitarian, which quickly attracted more sponsors and volunteers from around the
world. Her own children also grew up participating in the volunteer work, bonding closely
with local kids. The project has helped locals improve their lives greatly-many families
now have enough food, and some even earn extra income by selling hand-sewn products.

In South Korea,a playful green cartoon dinosaur named Dooly is popular across
generations. It has two small clumps of hair on its head.So scientists named a new young
dinosaur species discovered on Aphae Island Doolysaurus naturally.
Jongyun Jung, the research leader, said Dooly is a beloved symbolic cartoon character
in Korea. The fossil sample is a juvenile()dinosaur,making it perfectly proper to
name the new species after the classic character. This discovery is South Korea's first new
dinosaur species in 15 years, and also its first dinosaur fossil containing skull()parts.
At first, researchers only found leg and spinal bones in the rock.Micro-CT scanning
technology uncovered more hidden bones including valuable skull pieces, which made the
team extremely excited.
The species was officially named Doolysaurus huhmini. The second part of the name
honours Min Huh,a Korean paleontologist who has devoted decades to dinosaur research,
founded the research centre and helped protect fossil sites with UNESCO's help. The fossil
was found in 2023 and the findings were published in Fossil Record.
The 2-year-old young dinosaur was as big as a turkey, and adult Doolysaurus might be
twice as large.Covered in soft fine hair,it looked as cute as a little lamb.Living 113 to 94
million years ago in the mid-Cretaceous period,Doolysaurus is a kind of two-legged
dinosaur living in East Asia and North America.Bone growth patterns proved it was
young.Dozens of gastroliths()found inside show it ate plants, insects and small
animals, and its skeleton (was well preserved. This finding provides key clues for
studying the daily activities and diet of ancient dinosaurs.
South Korea is rich in dinosaur tracks, nests and eggs, but complete dinosaur bones
are scarce.Researchers believe more fossils are hidden in rocks. With micro-CT
technology,Jung plans to revisit Aphae Island and expects more new dinosaur or egg
fossils to be found there.

Electric vehicles (EVs)could do more for our environment than simply replace
gasoline.A new assessment of EV charging strategies, published in the Cell Press journal
Joule, suggests EVs could serve as a vast network of mobile batteries-storing excess
energy and feeding it back into the grid (when demand increases greatly. This
approach eases grid pressure, cuts emissions, and generates profits-but only if paired
with timely grid upgrades.
"People debate whether EVs are truly green,as much electricity still comes from
fossil fuels,"says senior author Ziyou Song of the University of Michigan."Meanwhile,
the grid struggles to absorb irregular and unpredictable renewable energy like solar and wind.
Vehicle-to-grid V2G )technology-software enabling charging stations to
communicate with the grid-bridges both challenges, allowing EVs to draw power and
send it back when needed. This two-way flow contrasts with current one-way charging
systems. However, critics question the practicality of large-scale V2G deployment and the
high upfront costs of necessary infrastructure(基础设施).
To assess V2G's real-world potential, researchers examined the San Francisco Bay
Area under different grid conditions. They projected EV ownership and solar energy
adoption, mapped charging times and locations, and evaluated the cost-effectiveness of
proactive versus phased grid upgrades.
"I was surprised by the results,"says Song."The ideal solution is to upgrade the
power system as soon as possible."
If upgraded proactively, each charger needs just $0.12 to $0.18 daily to offset V2G
costs,versus $1.49 to $1.78 for phased updates.Under California's proposed
decarbonization policies,V2G plus proactive upgrades could cut 2030-2045 annual
emissions by up to 59,200 metric tons of CO2 equivalent and yield $47.5 million in total
carbon incentive(奖励)profits..
"First upgrade the power system to support EVs,then scale V2G when needed-
that's the key,"Song emphasizes.Major grid assets like transformers last decades, while
V2G chargers have limited lifespans and can expand with EV adoption.
32.What is the core function of V2G technology?
A.To replace fossil fuels with renewable energy.
B.To reduce the cost of EV chargers significantly.
C.To store excess energy only for EV owners'use.
D.To enable two-way energy flow between EVs and the grid.
高三英语试题第5页(共8页)
33.Why do critics doubt the large-scale use of V2G?
A.It may damage the existing power grid.
B.It fails to cut carbon emissions effectively.
C.It cannot adapt to solar and wind energy systems.
D.It requires expensive initial infrastructure investment.
34.What is the ideal strategy for promoting V2G according to the study?
A.Delaying grid upgrades to save costs.
B.Scaling up V2G chargers before grid updates.
C.Upgrading the power system proactively first.
D.Focusing on carbon rebate revenue instead of emissions.
35.Which of the following is the best title for the text?
A.Are EVs the Future of Green Transportation?
B.V2G Technology:A New Way to Power Homes
C.How Electric Vehicles Could Back Up Our Power System
D.Carbon Policies:A Driver for EV and V2G Development

Conflicts with friends are a normal part of growing up.Whether it's a disagreement
over plans,a misunderstanding,or different opinions,conflicts can happen.36 Here
are some practical tips to help you turn a fight into a chance to strengthen your friendship.
Try to stay calm before reacting.37 But before you speak, take a few deep
breaths to calm down.Angry words can hurt feelings and make the problem worse. For
example,if your friend forgets to call you, don't shout,"You never care about me!"
Instead, wait until you feel calm. This small step helps you avoid saying things you might
regret later.
Communication is key to solving problems.Once you're calm,it's time to talk.
38 For example, say,"I felt left out when you didn't invite me to the party, instead
of "You ignored me on purpose!"This way, your friend won't feel accused and will be
more willing to listen.
39 When your friend is talking, look at them and don't interrupt.Try to
understand their side of the story.Even if you don't agree at first, put yourself in their
shoes.Showing that you care about their feelings makes them feel respected.
Find a solution together and learn to forgive. After sharing your feelings, work
together to find a solution-like setting a regular meetup time or making a plan. For small
conflicts,let them go.40
Conflicts don't have to end friendships. If you handle them with calm,
communication, and understanding, you can turn a difficult moment into a chance to get
closer to your friend.
A.Use "I"statements to share your feelings without attacking your friend.
B.Listen to your friend's perspective carefully.
C.It's best to avoid talking about the problem at all.
D.When a conflict starts,it's easy to blame your friend right away.
E.Clear communication can clear up misunderstandings quickly.
F.Letting go of anger and forgiving strengthens your friendship.
G.But the good news is that you can learn to handle them in a healthy way.

healthy blood cells. If left untreated,it can progress to acute myeloid leukemia,a life-
threatening cancer.Either the dangerously low blood counts caused by MDS or the

Determined to live and cherish every chance to survive,Kaedi threw herself into
fighting the disease with unwavering courage. She went through months of chemotherapy
(sessions, which took a heavy toll on her body-leaving her exhausted, weak, and
struggling with side effects-while doctors worked tirelessly to search for a compatible(

she know, her donor was a kind 26-year-old Polish man named Karol Zwierzynsk, who

help someone in desperate need.
Against all odds, the stem cell transplant went smoothly without any major
complications ()and Kaedi felt great afterward, her body slowly healing and
regaining strength. As she recovered, she soon began planning her dream wedding with
her now-husband,Mikey Cecala, and one of her biggest, most heartfelt wishes was to find
her donor and have him present on the special day. With the help of the donation

Chinese culture is our national treasure and the root of our confidence. It carries our history,

makes our country stronger.
As young Chinese,we should take responsibility. We can learn classical literature, experience
traditional arts like calligraphy and paper-cutting,and take part in cultural activities.More
importantly,we should tell wonderful Chinese stories to the world and spread our culture in creative
ways.
Let's cherish our culture, keep it alive and build a culturally powerful China.

One possible version:
Karol got on the stage and took the microphone. With a warm and sincere smile,he spoke gently
to the crowd, explaining that he had travelled from Poland to meet the woman whose life he helped
save.He told everyone that donating stem cells was one of the easiest yet most meaningful decisions he
had ever made, adding that seeing Kaedi healthy, happy, and marrying the love of her life made every
moment of waiting worthwhile. The entire room fell silent, then erupted in heartfelt applause, tears
shining in many guests'eyes as they realized the incredible story behind their special visitor.
Kaedi hurried to hug Karol.Tears of joy streamed down Kaedi's face as she held him tightly,
whispering that words could barely express her gratitude. She told him he was not just a donor but her
real-life hero, the reason why she got to walk down the aisle and start a new chapter.Karol smiled
softly, reassuring her that he was just glad to help. The two shared a quiet touching moment that made
the wedding more heartwarming, forming a precious bond across continents.
