MEMORIES① OF CHRISTMAS
I still remember the last Christmas [1]Granny spent with us. It began in the middle of November on a cold, windy day. I remember the wind because Granny’s grey hair was a mess② when she arrived. That was also the day Granny moved in③. Somehow④, at the time, I didn’t know she was sick. Maybe I was too young, maybe she hid it too well, or maybe I was just too excited [2]that Christmas was on the way.
After Granny moved in, she spent most of her time on the brown sofa by the fire. Sometimes she was quiet, but she seemed happy. When I wrote a letter to Father Christmas [3]telling him about the presents I wanted, Granny made an effort to help⑤ me. Her hand was slightly⑥ shaky⑦, but she wrote “Father Christmas, the North Pole⑧” on the envelope⑨.
In December, our excitement grew each day—lights appeared in the streets, Christmas cards arrived, and there was snow everywhere. Granny and I made sugar biscuits, stuffed⑩ the turkey and then I sat on my granny’s la and we sang Christmas songs. My favourite song was Frost the Snowman and I loved the bit [4]that went “Thumpety-thump-thump, thumpety-thump-thump, look at Frosty go!” Granny had the patienc to sing it over and ove again.
On Christmas Ev, Granny took a sea by the fire [5]as we put u the Christmas tree. I hung most of the decorations on the branche.
“That’s the most beautiful tree [6]I’ve ever seen,” Granny said.
Then she started singing, “Oh, Christmas tree, oh, Christmas tree, you fill my heart with music

(1)主句使用了强调句型,被强调的是句子主语not just gifts and Father Christmas。
强调句型的基本句式是:“It is/was+被强调部分+that/who+句子的余下部分.”。
(1)基本结构:It is/was+被强调部分+that…
(2)一般疑问句结构:Is/Was it+被强调部分+that…?
(3)特殊疑问句结构:疑问词+is/was it+that…?
It is/was not until+被强调部分+that…
It is/was…that/who…
