【1题详解】
句意:虽然他已经四十多岁了却没有学位,但他梦想着在哈佛大学发表演讲。
此处考查固定表达“in one’s+整十数复数”表示“在某人几十多岁时”,可知此处需用复数形式forties。排除forty years old“四十岁”;forty-year-old“四十岁的”和fortieth“第四十”。

(A)
“Father, don’t you want me to be clever and great one day?” said Willie to his father. “I want you, my boy, to do your duty in whatever work or task given to you. Also do not be too sure of anything,” he replied. “When I see people like that, it makes me think of the famous Napoleon.
When Napoleon was ruling over France, he had beaten most of Europe and he wanted to rule over England, too. He was so sure of beating England that he chose the day and time he would come over and enter London as the winner.
He got a number of his soldiers together, and had ships ready to carry them from France to England. He looked over the blue waves towards England and thought, ‘I’ll land in England soon, march to London, and take it.’”
“He was too sure,” laughed Willie.
“He was so sure,” said his father, “that he actually had a medal made to celebrate his success! On the medal was written in French, ‘STRUCK AT LONDON’, which means that the medal was made in London.”
“But he never even got to England!” said Willie.
“He made so sure of success,” said the father, “that he had a medal made in celebration of beating a city that he never even set foot in.”
“Well, that was counting his chickens before they were hatched (孵化)!” laughed the boy. “How shameful Napoleon must have felt later whenever he thought of that medal! Have you got any more stories for me, father?”
“Yes, I have a story about another very successful man, but he was different from the one who STRUCK the medal; it’s about the Duke of Wellington…”
21. What can this passage be described as?

C. Clever but not too believable. D. Famous but too confident.
24. Which of the following has the closest meaning to the underlined sentence?
A. No one is wise at all times.

D. Never fry (油炸) a fish until it is caught.
25. How did the father teach his son a lesson?

(B)
①Humans want to explore deep space. The Moon is the first step. Many countries plan to build bases there for long stays. But there is a big problem: how to feed the astronauts? Bringing food from Earth costs too much and is very heavy. So scientists are looking for ways to grow plants on the Moon. This problem is called the “lunch problem.”
②A study by Chinese researchers may offer a solution. They found that certain bacteria (细菌) from Earth’s soil can help plants grow in lunar soil. The team used a special material that is very similar to real Moon soil. They tested five different kinds of bacteria on this fake lunar soil. Within 10 to 21 days, three of the bacteria species doubled the amount of phosphorus (磷) in the soil. Phosphorus is an important nutrient that plants need for healthy growth.
③Next, the scientists grew model plants in the treated soil. They compared these plants with others grown in soil without bacteria. After just six days, the plants with bacteria had longer stems and roots. After 24 days, they developed larger and heavier leaf clusters. Even more interesting, their chlorophyll (叶绿素) levels were about twice as high. With more chlorophyll, the plants could make more food for themselves and grow stronger.
④The lead researcher, Sun Zhencai, told Xinhua that these results are very promising for future long-term stays on the Moon. Earth bacteria may help astronauts use local resources better, for example by building greenhouses. In their next steps, the team hopes to test real Moon soil samples and try to grow food crops like rice, corn, and potatoes.
⑤Space missions are becoming longer and longer. It is not practical to take all the food from Earth. That’s why space planting is becoming necessary. China’s astronauts have already made great progress. During the Shenzhou Ⅺ mission, they successfully grew green vegetables like lettuce. On later missions, they grew wheat and rice. The crew on Shenzhou XVII grew lettuce, scallions, and cherry tomatoes. These “space gardens” do more than just provide fresh food. They also produce extra oxygen and water, which makes life in space much easier and more comfortable.
26. How did the bacteria help the plants?
A. They provided water. B. They increased phosphorus in the soil.
C. They produced oxygen. D. They killed harmful insects.
27. What is the difference between the plants with bacteria and those without?
A. They grew better in many ways. B. They only grew longer roots.
C. They showed no difference. D. They grew in different stages.
28. Why does the author say “space planting is becoming necessary” in paragraph 5?
A. Because astronauts prefer fresh vegetables rather than food from Earth.
B. Because carrying all food from Earth is not a good long-term plan.
C. Because plants grow faster and better in space than on Earth.
D. Because astronauts cannot find any food in space.
29. Why does the author mention China’s Shenzhou missions in the passage?
A. To prove that space planting has already made progress.
B. To compare Chinese astronauts with other countries’.
C. To show China’s leading role of the space exploration.
D. To show that lettuce is the best crop to grow.
30. Which picture best shows the structure of this article?
A. B. C. D.
【答案】26. B 27. A 28. B 29. A 30. A
【解析】
【导语】本文是一篇说明文,介绍月球种植难题,中国研究发现细菌可改良月壤助力植物生长,还介绍中国太空种植已有成果。
【26题详解】
第②段指出:“three of the bacteria species doubled the amount of phosphorus (磷) in the soil.”,直接说明细菌增加了土壤中的磷含量,帮助植物生长。
【27题详解】
第③段指出:“After just six days, the plants with bacteria had longer stems and roots. After 24 days, they developed larger and heavier leaf clusters. Even more interesting, their chlorophyll (叶绿素) levels were about twice as high.”,说明添加细菌的植物拥有更长的茎根、更大更重的叶簇、更高的叶绿素含量,由此说明有细菌的植物在多个方面长势更好。
【28题详解】
第⑤段指出:“Space missions are becoming longer and longer. It is not practical to take all the food from Earth.”,说明太空任务时长不断增加,从地球运送全部食物并不现实,因此太空种植成为必要,而从地球运送全部食物并非好的长期方案。
【29题详解】
第⑤段指出:“China’s astronauts have already made great progress. During the Shenzhou Ⅺ mission, they successfully grew green vegetables like lettuce.”,说明中国神舟系列任务陆续成功种植多种作物,证明太空种植已经取得进展。
【30题详解】
第①段提出月球面临“食物供给”难题;②③④段介绍中国科研团队的细菌实验研究与成果;第⑤段拓展说明太空种植的必要性以及中国已有太空种植实践,因此文章结构是①/②③④/⑤。

Hiking on Jade Dragon Snow Mountain
Have you ever tried hiking? I had my first hiking experience on Jade Dragon Snow Mountain with my friend during my trip to Yunnan.
It was my first time travelling far away without my parents. I felt really excited and discussed our travel plan with my friend almost every week before the trip. However, things did not go as we planned. When we got to Lijiang, it was cloudy and we could hardly see the mountain. My friend and I decided to book a hiking tour to Jade Dragon Snow Mountain.
The next morning, we went to the starting point and waited for our guide and driver. On the way, we saw a beautiful lake. The temperature changed very quickly. We only wore shirts in the car, but cold winds blew strongly when we walked by the lake. Many wild animals lived around the lake, which reminded me of this poem: “When the winds blow, and grass bends low, sheep and cattle will emerge before your eyes.”
At about 3,800 meters above sea level, I felt uncomfortable because of the height and could not enjoy the views well. The guide told me to focus on my steps instead of thinking about the long way ahead. The hike was tiring but unforgettable. After hiking, we had a great view of the whole valley from the top.
We spent ten days in Yunnan. Besides climbing the snow mountain, we visited many ancient towns and Xishuangbanna. It’s hard to say which part is the best. Things like this make it so fun to travel.

A. B. C. D.
