Beaverton is home to a large group of hair-covered, wood-chewing creatures. The mayor decides their forest should be removed for a highway. Mabel, a teenage activist, is angry about this. After she discovers a project allowing her to transfer her awareness into a robotic animal, she befriends the creatures and encourages them to fight with teeth and nails.
This is the fun setting of the film Hoppers. Animation films (动画电影) are typically aimed at small children, but they are hugely popular with audiences of all ages. In 2024, Inside Out 2 became the highest-earning animated film of all time, taking $1.7 billion globally. In early 2025, it was overtaken by Ne Zha 2, which went on to earn over $2 billion. Zootopia 2, released later that year, made $1.9 billion. How did animation become such a draw?
One reason is that storytellers have aimed for wide appeal. Many animated films touch on universal themes — the struggles of growing up or the experience of losing a loved one. The best movies usually follow the “22 Rules for Storytelling” created by a Pixar artist. She advised focusing on characters and emotion. Viewers admire a character for trying more than for their successes.
Another factor is animation’s global reach. Such films generally avoid unsuitable content (内容). They also translate well across cultures, with fantastic settings or simple ideas that are not culturally specific. Characters’ faces are also stylised and expressive.
Also, distributors (经销商) have chosen the time wisely. The biggest animated films are released during school holidays. In 2022, 44% of animated films from top American studios went straight to streaming; in 2025 just 8% did. “A trip to the cinema is an easy win for parents who want to get their children out of the house,” says an industry analyst.
Moreover, clever scriptwriters include jokes for adults to enjoy — with or without kids together. Film series tap into nostalgia (怀旧) too. Audiences become less interested when studios go too far from these rules. It turns out to be a great idea to work with animals and children.
4. How does the author lead into the topic?
A. By listing box office data. B. By comparing hit movies.

6. What matters most in Pixar’s “22 Rules”?
A. Hot topics for all age groups. B. Rich storyline and social meaning.
C. Perfect and successful endings. D. Figures’ emotions and personalities.
7. What does the author highlight about animated films in the last two paragraphs?
A. Their global influence and great popularity.
B. Their content features and release strategies.
C. Their wise balance between traditions and box office.
D. Their cultural adaptability and comments received.

If you feel lonely, you’re actually in good company. In a survey conducted last year in the U.S., 20 percent of adults reported feeling lonely, and this feeling is not limited to the U.S. But scientists believe there may be even higher global rates of people who feel lonely than reported — particularly young adults.
According to the World Health Organization, the world is experiencing a global health crisis — loneliness. Today, many live isolated (隔离的) lives. People used to belong to a variety of social clubs where they met face-to-face, whereas now, life seems to have shifted online, where people shop, hold work meetings, date, play games, etc. In fact, American adults spend significantly less time socializing face-to-face than they did 20 years ago. Adults in other countries are no better.
The issue of loneliness in South Korea has attracted national attention as young people are spending more time at home by themselves. In Singapore, the trend (趋势) is for people to believe that they need to manage their emotions by themselves. Psychologists agree this can be healthy; however, clinical psychologist Haikal Jamil warns that too much self-reliance (自立) is dangerous if people don’t connect with others because they view it as being weak.
Mental health experts say that even though there is digital connection, loneliness among young adults is high because their communication is usually shallow. Jamil says, “Online connections tend to focus on brief, surface-level exchanges such as likes, comments and short messages, rather than supportive conversations.”
How can we fight this crisis? A U.S. study found that when people like what they do every day, whether work or a hobby, their chances of experiencing loneliness reduce. Additionally, exercising or taking courses where they may meet people helps people feel active and productive, giving them the mental energy needed to interact with others, thus improving their mental health. More importantly, many people need to be aware that being alone does not necessarily mean loneliness, and learning how to be with ourselves and enjoy it could be very beneficial. The battle against loneliness isn’t easy, but the methods above can be a start.
8. What is the situation regarding loneliness?
A. It mainly hits elderly citizens.
B. It exists mainly in Western nations.
C. The actual rates are lower than reported.
D. It has become a worldwide health problem.
9. What leads to today’s loneliness according to the text?

Artificial intelligence is no longer a concept of the future; it is rapidly changing our present. While much attention is given to its benefits, a growing number of voices are raising concerns about its enormous demand for energy and the resulting environmental cost.
Training and running powerful AI models requires huge computing power. This computing power depends on massive data centers — buildings filled with thousands of computers running non-stop. These data centers consume electricity on a scale comparable to small cities. A recent study suggested that training a single advanced AI model can consume more electricity than 100 homes use in an entire year. As AI spreads to more products, this energy demand is only expected to rise sharply.
This leads to a critical question: where does all this electricity come from? If the energy powering AI comes from burning fossil fuels like coal and gas, it contributes significantly to releasing (释放) carbon, which worsens climate change. While some tech companies are committed to using renewable energy, such as solar or wind power, the global energy system is not yet green enough. The rapid expansion of AI could therefore put a huge strain on our energy resources and slow down the shift to cleaner energy.
Furthermore, AI systems also have a hidden physical cost. The powerful computer chips needed for AI generate a lot of heat and need advanced cooling systems, which themselves use large amounts of water. In regions already facing water shortages, a large data center can impact local water supplies. Additionally, the hardware behind AI has a limited lifespan. The constant need for newer, faster chips creates a cycle of electronic waste, much of which ends up in landfills and pollutes the soil and water.
Professor Elara Vance, an environmental scientist, comments, “We are rightfully excited about AI’s potential to solve complex problems, including climate change. However, we must be careful. The tool we are using to fight a crisis might at the same time be making that crisis worse. We need to develop more energy-efficient AI and ensure it is powered sustainably (可持续地).”
12. Why does the author mention “100 homes use in an entire year” in paragraph 2?
A. To encourage people to save home energy.
B. To compare different energy sources for AI.
C. To present the rapid growth of AI products.
D. To stress the huge energy consumption of AI.
13. What does the underlined word “strain” in paragraph 3 probably mean?
A. Control. B. Pressure. C. Profit. D. Support.
14. Which hidden cost does AI hardware bring?
A. Loss of traditional manual jobs.
B. Decrease of chip production value.
C. Pollution from electronic waste.
D. Release of harmful gas into the air.
15. What can we know about future AI according to the text?
A. It will follow an eco-friendly development path.
B. It can largely solve serious climate problems.
C. It will face application limits due to high costs.
D. It can handle most complex social issues alone.
D 13. B 14. C 15. A

根据第三段中的“While some tech companies are committed to using renewable energy, such as solar or wind power, the global energy system is not yet green enough. The rapid expansion of AI could therefore put a huge strain on our energy resources and slow down the shift to cleaner energy.(虽然部分科技公司坚持使用太阳能、风能等可再生能源,但全球能源体系尚未完全绿色化。人工智能的快速发展会对能源资源造成巨大负担,延缓清洁能源转型进程。)”可知,人工智能的快速发展会加剧能源消耗、加重能源负担,因此,画线单词“strain”表示“压力、负担”,与Pressure意义相近。
【14题详解】
细节理解题。根据第四段中的“Additionally, the hardware behind AI has a limited lifespan. The constant need for newer, faster chips creates a cycle of electronic waste, much of which ends up in landfills and pollutes the soil and water.(此外,人工智能硬件使用寿命有限,不断更新芯片会产生大量电子垃圾,大多垃圾最终被填埋,污染水土环境。)”
通读全文,尤其是尾段中的“We need to develop more energy-efficient AI and ensure it is powered sustainably.(我们需要研发更节能的人工智能,保障其可持续运转。)”

上文“Riding a bike might not be a practical option for everyone. However, if you live in a city, you can do it for sure. Not only is biking good for your health, but it also helps reduce pollution and traffic jams.(骑自行车可能并非对所有人来说都是切实可行的选择。然而,如果你住在城市里,你肯定可以做到。骑自行车不仅对你的健康有益,而且有助于减少污染和交通堵塞)”说明骑自行车好处。空处和前文为顺接关系,进一步补充与城市骑行相关的便利信息。所以D项“现在低价租借自行车或骑共享单车很方便。” 符合语境。D选项中的“rent bikes or ride shared bikes”与上文中的“bike lanes”和“explore places”相呼应,且“convenient”与后文的“without worrying about parking”逻辑一致。
下文“Raising animals for food is one of the leading causes of global warming. Eating less meat will not only reduce your carbon footprint (碳足迹), but also your risk of cancer. You’ll be likely to notice a positive change in your health soon.(饲养动物作为食物是全球变暖的主要原因之一。少吃肉不仅可以减少你的碳足迹,还可以降低你患癌症的风险。你很可能很快就会注意到你的健康状况有了积极的变化)”说明饲养食用动物是全球变暖的主要诱因之一。空处总起本段,引出肉类生产对环境的巨大影响。所以F项“迄今为止,肉类生产是对环境影响最大的因素之一。” 适合作本段的主旨句。F选项中的“Meat production”与下文中“Raising animals for food”相呼应。
上文“Did you know that you’re wasting energy if you have lights that are turned on all day, but are not being used?(你知道吗,如果你的灯整天开着,但没有被使用,你就是在浪费能源?)” C选项中的“This problem”与上文中的“wasting energy”相呼应,且“at home and in offices”自然引出后文的具体建议。
上文“Besides, there are other ways you can be more eco-friendly. You can use reusable grocery bags to reduce the amount of plastic bags. You can also choose eco-friendly products in life.(此外,还有其他方法可以让你更环保。你可以使用可重复使用的购物袋来减少塑料袋的数量。你也可以在生活中选择环保产品)”说明生活中可以选择环保产品。空处和前文为举例顺接关系,对环保产品进行举例说明。所以G项“例如,环保清洁产品通常也对你的健康更好。” 符合语境。G选项中的“Eco-friendly cleaning products”与上文中的“eco-friendly products”相呼应,for example表示举例,且“better for your health”与文章倡导的健康生活方式一致。
上文“The world is changing, but that doesn’t mean that we have to let it change for the worse. Each of us can play a part in protecting our environment.(世界正在发生变化,但这并不意味着我们必须让它变得更糟。我们每个人都可以在保护环境方面发挥作用)”说明我们每个人都可以为保护环境出力;下文“And it will also help to save the planet for future generations.(这也将有助于为子孙后代拯救地球)”讲述保护环境对后代地球的意义。空处为并列顺接关系,介绍环保带给我们自身的好处。所以B项“它将帮助我们过上更快乐、更健康的生活。” 符合语境。B选项中的It指代前文保护环境的行动,与后文的“it will also help to save the planet”结构对称,且“happier and healthier life”呼应前文骑自行车、少吃肉等带来的健康益处。

Dear Tom,
How is everything going? Last Friday, we had a special art class in which we took a cloud tour of a world-famous art gallery through virtual reality technology.
What impressed me most was Van Gogh’s Starry Night. With the VR device, I could see every vivid brushstroke clearly, as if I were standing right in front of the real painting.

Sports are more than competitions. To me, they mean growth under the care of others. I learned this the hard way.
I used to be very shy and fear physical education. Things would go on like that if not for a sports meet in my high school. My name was on the list of those competing in the women’s 1,500-meter race by mistake. When people found the mistake, it was too late to change.
Other athletic girls in the class had their own items to take, so nobody was able to run the race in my place.1,500 meters! Running against the best runners from other classes! And in front of students of the entire school! It would be the worst nightmare (噩梦) I’d ever have!
“Don’t lose heart. You still have time to catch up because there are still two months before the sports meet,” they all told this to me.
My deskmate, a natural athlete, patted me on the shoulder, “Cool! You will run for our class! And we will do training together.” I kept telling myself that this was not just for me, but for my class, too. But still,1,500 meters to me was like Mount Qomolangma to a beginning climber. I had no idea even how to start my preparation.
Fortunately, my deskmate gave me a hand. Every afternoon after class, several of us ran together. When I feared being laughed at, I saw others running beside me. They gave me strengths. While we were running, some others would stand by the tracks, cheering for us. Despite my efforts and others’ encouragement, I knew two months certainly couldn’t make me a good runner. However, standing behind the start line, I no longer felt lonely or afraid.
注意:
(1)续写词数应为120个左右;
Finally, the sports meet arrived.

Despite the cheering of my classmates, I was almost the last to cross the finish line.
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Finally, the sports meet arrived. After what seemed like a decade, the 1,500-meter race began. With the starting whistle blowing, I ran at full speed. Though I didn’t fall behind in the first lap, I was running out of strength and finding it difficult to breathe in the second lap. When I couldn’t feel my legs and wanted to quit in the third lap, I heard my classmates cheering for me, which improved my courage and confidence again. I gritted my teeth and ran on.
Despite the cheering of my classmates, I was almost the last to cross the finish line. Immediately, some classmates crowded around me, took my arms to support me, and urged me to walk on my feet instead of sitting down. Warmth surged through my heart as I was greeted with no blame but heartfelt praise. Although I failed to win the race, I gained great confidence in my possibility and respect from my classmates. From then on, I began to see sports in a different light. I no longer feared physical education.

A. Increased online activities. B. Bad self-emotion management.
C. Too many social clubs and meetings. D. False belief to build new relationships.
10. Which of the following activities may the author agree with to deal with loneliness?
A. Focusing on honest online chats.
B. Engaging in enjoyable daily activities.
C. Taking more classes to learn self-control.
D. Spending more time alone to build strength.
11. What is the text mainly about?
A. Expressing and controlling emotions. B. Developing and showing social skills.
C. Accepting and handling loneliness. D. Analyzing and improving mental condition.
D
第二节(满分25分)
47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
注意:
(1)续写词数应为120个左右;
Finally, the sports meet arrived.
