Passage A
On the afternoon of August 12, 2026, China’s domestically developed C919 large passenger aircraft took off from Beijing Capital International Airport and landed safely in Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia, at 4:58 pm. A grand water salute welcomed the plane at the airport. This was the first international commercial flight of the C919 since it entered commercial service.
The flight was operated by Air China under flight number CA723. It is now scheduled to run daily, connecting the two capitals. The C919 is China’s first self-developed trunk jetliner, built according to international airworthiness standards and registered with independent intellectual property rights. Air China currently operates 12 C919 aircraft.
The C919 made its first commercial flight on May 28, 2023, flying from Shanghai to Chengdu. Over the following years, it was put into service on more and more domestic routes, covering ten cities across the country. The number of monthly flights has doubled, and its utilization rate has come close to that of similar Western aircraft. Such steady progress laid a solid foundation for its expansion abroad.
The opening of this international route marks a new stage in the development of China’s civil aviation industry. For Mongolian travelers, the new route offers a faster and more comfortable way to visit China. The two countries have enjoyed close ties in trade and tourism, and the new flight will surely bring them even closer.
Looking ahead, Air China says it will continue to put the C919 on more routes, both at home and abroad. Passage B
The Mogao Grottoes, a UNESCO World Heritage site in Northwest China, are famous for their ancient Buddhist murals and statues. For more than a thousand years, these treasures have survived wind, sand and rain. Today, high technology is helping to protect them from the growing challenges of climate change.
At the caves, conservators have installed “smart doors”. These doors seal out moisture during rain, lock tight against blowing sand, and open to let in fresh air on clear days. In this way, the environment inside each cave can be kept in good condition all year round.
The whole system is driven by real-time data from more than 600 sensors placed in and around the grottoes. The monitoring center displays the temperature, humidity and carbon dioxide level of each cave, as well as the number of visitors and the weather in the area. Among all these, humidity is considered the most important factor for keeping the murals safe.
A red, yellow and green alert system helps workers make decisions. When the risk is high, the ticket office may stop selling tickets, and the cave doors are closed to prevent moisture from damaging the paintings. Thanks to this careful monitoring, the ancient murals can be better protected than ever before.
Digital technology also brings the grottoes closer to the world. Researchers have created detailed digital records of the caves and murals, and visitors can even enjoy a VR exhibition at home. By combining traditional protection with modern science, Dunhuang shows the world how ancient culture can live on in the digital age.

A. They make the caves brighter.
B. They are only opened at night.
C. They seal out moisture and let in fresh air as needed.
D. They are used to keep wild animals out.
48. Why is humidity especially important to the grottoes?
A. Because it is easy to measure.
B. Because it is the key factor for mural preservation.
C. Because it affects the number of visitors.
D. Because it changes the color of the cave walls.
49. When the risk is high, what may happen?
A. The ticket office may stop selling tickets.
B. More visitors are allowed into the caves.
C. The sensors are turned off.
D. The murals are painted again.
50. What can we infer from the passage?
A. The murals can never be damaged.

Passage D
Northern China has long suffered from a shortage of water, while the south has plenty. To solve this problem, China built the South-to-North Water Diversion Project, one of the largest water projects in the world.
The project has three routes — the eastern, middle and western routes — which carry water from the Yangtze River system to the dry north. The middle route draws water from the Danjiangkou Reservoir in Hubei Province and runs through Henan and Hebei to supply Beijing and Tianjin.
The middle route began delivering water on December 12, 2014. Since then, it has supplied large amounts of water to the north every year, easing the serious shortage in cities and helping restore the local environment.
By 2026, the project had transferred more than 87 billion cubic meters of water, benefiting about 195 million people. Nearly 80 percent of the water used in Beijing’s urban areas now comes from the project, and some people have said goodbye to bitter, high-fluoride water.
The project not only provides clean drinking water but also supports agriculture and industry in the north. As the “lifeline” of the country’s water system, it plays a key role in balancing water resources across China.

Passage A
On the afternoon of August 12, 2026, China’s domestically developed C919 large passenger aircraft took off from Beijing Capital International Airport and landed safely in Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia, at 4:58 pm.
Officials believe that with safe operation and better services, the homegrown aircraft will win the trust of more passengers around the world and write a new chapter for Chinese-made planes in the sky.

A. How technology protects the Mogao Grottoes.
B. The history of the Silk Road.
C. How to paint ancient murals.
D. The weather in Gansu province.
47. What do the “smart doors” do according to the passage?
B. Visitors are not allowed in the caves.

56. What problem does the project aim to solve?
57. Where does the middle route draw water from?
58. When did the middle route begin delivering water?
59. How much water had the project transferred by 2026?
60. How many people have benefited from the project?
