Whenever he had to speak in front of others, his heart would race and his palms would sweat. In Grade 9, his English teacher, Mrs. Foster, announced a storytelling contest with the theme “Courage in Our Lives.” Leo’s stomach tightened, and he felt like running away. After class, his best friend Maya noticed his worry. She gently encouraged him, “Why not tell the story of your grandpa? He never gave up, even when illness took away his sight, and later he became a respected painter.” Leo’s eyes lit up. His grandpa had always been his hero. That night, Leo sat by the window, recalling grandpa’s firm voice: “Fear is a paper tiger—it looks scary but cannot truly hurt you if you face it.” For a whole week, Leo practiced in front of a mirror every evening. At first, his voice trembled (颤抖) and he often forgot words. But he kept going. On the day of the contest, Leo walked onto the stage. With a deep breath he began: “My grandpa taught me that courage is not the absence of fear, but moving forward despite it.” Slowly, his voice grew steady (沉稳) and powerful. When he finished, the audience burst into warm applause. Leo did not win first place that day, but he earned something more valuable—lasting confidence. Since then, he has volunteered to host school events and joined the debate club. The experience changed his life, proving that growth happens when we dare to step out of our comfort zones. 26. How does the writer organize the story and what lesson does it mainly teach? A. By comparing different contests; winning is everything. B. In time order from problem to solution; stepping out of comfort zone leads to growth. C. With flashbacks (倒叙) only; storytelling is easy for everyone. 【答案】26. B 27. C 28. B 29. C 30. Some experts argue that the internet will produce forgetfulness in the minds of those learning to use it, because they won’t practise their memory. Is the internet really doing harm to our memories—or will our doubtful experts be proven wrong? After all, the brain’s attention system (系统) and preferences for novel experiences were already there long before the digital age, and our ability to remember is nearly inexhaustible (无穷尽的). According to Michael Merzenich, a brain researcher, every brain is a work in progress; it keeps changing throughout our lives, depending on how we use it. But our brains don’t work well when we’re not focused. When we repeatedly check text messages and social media during work, we are weakening our ability to form both short- and long-term memories, experts say. The flooding of information influences our ability to remember, too. Though our brains are designed to look for new data, too much of it may be causing this natural drive to go wild. The compulsion to continuously take in information means we often check social media when we should be doing “memory housekeeping” by giving our brains some rest. Another problem: the effortless way of receiving information online. Trying to actively recall (回忆) data is a good workout for the brain, but today we are using online search tools instead. However, the internet may be changing only what we remember, not our ability to do so, suggests Columbia University psychologist (心理学家) Betsy Sparrow. In fact, the internet is becoming an outside hard drive for our memories. Some worry that this is having a negative effect on society, but Sparrow suggests this will change our way of learning from a focus on remembering facts to one on understanding ideas. As is shown in a 2008 study, using the internet exercised the brain more than reading among older adults with strong computer skills. And two Harvard psychologists argue that not needing to remember facts might free our minds to focus on more meaningful tasks. “There may be costs caused by our increased dependence on the internet, but generally the benefits are going to outweigh those costs,” says Benjamin Storm, a psychologist. “It seems pretty clear that memory is changing, but is it changing for the better? At this point, we don’t know.” 36. What is the main idea of Paragraph 2? A. Our brains stop changing once we become adults. B. The internet may not be as harmful to memory as experts fear. C. Human memory is running out because of digital technology. 37. What does the word “compulsion” in Paragraph 3 most probably mean? A. Longing. B. Ability. C. Chance. 38. How does Benjamin Storm feel about the effects of the internet on memory? A. Positive but still uncertain. B. Negative but still hopeful. C. Encouraged and confident. 39. What can we learn from the passage? A. Novel experiences improve the brain’s attention system. B. Checking social media can give the brain proper breaks. C. The internet may produce a change of focus in learning. 40. What is the writer’s main purpose in writing this passage? A. To argue for a belief. B. To present different views. C. To examine causes and effects. 【答案】36. B 37. A 38. A 39. C 40. In ancient China, the school entrance ceremony (入学典礼) was one of the most important ceremonies. Children began school between the ages of 4~7 in ancient China. Since there was no certain time to begin a new term at that time, the most important thing for parents was to choose a lucky day for their children to enter school. Next, parents would prepare some school things for their children, including desks, chairs and the four treasures of the study. In ancient times, teachers were usually very knowledgeable local persons. Parents would prepare many gifts, and then write a letter of invitation to ask a knowledgeable man to be their children’s teacher. On the day their children entered school, parents would take them to take part in The First Writing Ceremony. Before that, children would kowtow (叩头) to the statue of Confucius (孔子像) 9 times and then to their teacher 3 times to show their deep respect. During the ceremony, the teacher would put a red point on the students’ forehead (前额) as it meant opening the wisdom eye. Children would ring a certain bell to start a new term. After that, they could finally sit down in their seats and begin to study. The First Writing Ceremony was a very important ceremony for every student. Every day, students would arrive at school earlier than their teacher, and kowtow to the statue of Confucius, and then go back to the seats. Usually the teacher would give every student a new name, which was used for future Imperial Examination (科举考试) . Today, some schools are starting to hold an entrance ceremony like they did in ancient times. Students put on traditional costumes and bow to the statue of Confucius and their teachers. B Leo had always suffered from a deep fear of public speaking. C 16 winners from 12 countries were awarded at the 18th Special Book Awards of China held in Beijing in June 2025. Aleksei Rodionov, professor of Chinese studies at Saint Petersburg University, is a winner of the award in translating. This award is the highest national award. It is presented each year to foreign authors, translators, and publishers for their great contributions in promoting Chinese publications and cultural exchanges between China and other countries. “As a sinologist (汉学家) and translator of Chinese literature, this award will encourage me to do more and do better in promoting cultural exchanges between Russia and China,” said the professor. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。选项中有一项为多余选项。 Evidence-Based Ways to Build Resilience Resilience (韧性) is the ability to get over challenges in life. This means that from this moment, they take a step in the lifelong journey of learning. 66. At what age did children begin school in ancient China? ________________________ 67.
