Terri Bolton is a dab hand when it comes to DIY (do-it-yourself).Skilled at putting up
shelves and piecing together furniture, she never pays someone else to do a job she can do
herself.
She credits these skills to her late grandfather and builder Derek Lloyd. From the age of six,
Terri, now 26,accompanied Derek to work during her school holidays.A day's work was
rewarded with f5 in pocket money.She says:"I'm sure I wasn't much of a help to start with.But
when Derek built our family house about eight years ago,I was heavily involved, painting the
rooms and putting down the flooring throughout the house. It took weeks and it was
back-breaking work, but I know he was proud of my skills."
Terri, who now rents a house with friends in Wandsworth,South West London, says DIY
also saves her from losing any deposit when a tenancy comes to an end.She adds:"I've
moved house many times and I always like to personalize my room and put up pictures. So,it's
been useful to know how to cover up holes and repaint a room to avoid any charges when I've
moved out.”
With millions of people likely to take on DIY projects over the coming weeks, new research
shows that more than half of people are planning to make the most of the long, warm summer
days to get jobs done. The average spend per project will be around f823.Two thirds of people
aim to improve their comfort while at home.A fifth wish to increase the value of their houses.

Brands have spent years perfecting video marketing strategies.Nearly 78%of consumers
trust videos with real people, according to research from video creation platform Animoto. That
preference holds as AI video tools flood the market and brands race to create more content faster.
The finding comes from Animoto's State of Video 2026 report, based on a survey of 460
American consumers and marketers. As AI generates full videos from text prompts ()the
truth remains:People still want to see other people.
The preference for human faces isn't just about aesthetics ()More than 82%of
consumers report watching videos that they believe were AI-generated,and among that group,
36%say it lowers their trust in the brand behind it.This creates a problem with the numbers for
marketers.Even if AI tools can help produce videos faster, the resulting content may raise doubt
that destroys the entire purpose of making the video in the first place.
Separate research cited in the report found that 88%of consumers consider brand trust as
important as price and quality when making purchases.Three-quarters of US adults think it's
extremely or very important to know whether images, videos,or text were created by AI or
people. This trust loss appears regardless of whether audiences correctly identify AI content. The
survey showed that consumers believe they can spot AI-generated videos based on"an entire set
of signals"and contextual mismatches,according to respondent Olga Mirkovic.Whether they're
right doesn't matter.Perception alone affects how they view the brand.
Surveyed marketing professionals aren't trying to remove humans from their videos.
Despite pressure to produce more content faster, marketers still want control over which footage
to use,how to present their brand voice, and when to put themselves on camera.Roya Safarian,a
survey respondent, explained the balance:"AI can enhance storytelling as long as the brand still
keeps a human touch. The key is balance:Technology should support the message, not replace
the genuine voice behind it."
28.What is the most effective trust-building video marketing strategy?
A.Making videos featuring real people.
B.Using AI to generate videos quickly
C.Updating video production fashion.
D.Producing true video content faster.
29.In what circumstances does the trust loss occur?
A.When video aesthetics are poor.
B.When video production speeds up.
C.When AI content is perceived.
D.When brand trust is compared to price.
30.What do marketing professionals suggest AI be used for in video-making?
A.Generating videos automatically.
B.Aiding in content creation as a tool.
C.Controlling brand voice directly.
D.Replacing human presenters entirely.
31.What is the best title for the text?
A.Contrasting AI and Human-made Videos
B.Building Consumer Trust with AI Videos
C.Facing Trust Crisis in AI-generated Videos
D.Balancing Technology and Humanity in Videos

Does your soul die a little every time you throw away unused food?Mine does.Maybe that
feeling comes from growing up in South Africa, where the phrase "there are children starving in
Africa"was more of an uncomfortable reminder of fact than a prayer at dinner time.
Food waste is a growing concern in the restaurant, supermarket, and supply chain industries.
From technological solutions to educational campaigns, food producers and sellers are looking
for ways to use more of what we're already growing. But last month, one popular New York City
restaurant tried a different way:It changed its menu to exclusively (offer food that would
otherwise be thrown away.
For two weeks in March,Greenwich Village's Blue Hill restaurant was renamed wastED,
004
and served items like fried skate cartilage,a juice pulp burger, and a dumpster diver's vegetable
salad. Each dish was tailor-made to raise awareness regarding food waste.
A study by the Food Waste Alliance determined that the average restaurant generates 33
pounds of food waste for every $1,000 in revenue ()and of that waste only 15.7%is
donated or recycled.Up to 84.3%is simply thrown out.Restaurants like Silo in the UK have
experimented with zero-waste systems, but wastED took the concept to its logical conclusion.
It should be noted that none of the items on wastED's menu was technically made from
garbage.Instead, all the ingredients used were examples of meat cuts and produce that most
restaurants would never consider serving.Things like kale ribs, fish collars, rejected sweet
potatoes, and cucumber butts were all re-appropriated and, with the help of a number of good
chefs,turned into excellent cuisine.
Though wastED received enthusiastic reviews,it was designed from the start as a short-
lived experiment;Blue Hill has since returned to its regular menu.Nevertheless,it serves as a
reminder that there are many ways to address problems of sustainability, and that you can make
an amazing meal out of almost anything.
32.What can be inferred about the author's early life?
A.He witnessed food shortage.
B.He enjoyed the local cuisine.
C.He donated food to Africans.
D.He helped to cook at home.
33.Why did Blue Hill carry out the experiment?
A.To customize dishes for guests
B.To make the public aware of food waste.
C.To test a food processing method
D.To improve the UK's zero-waste systems.
34.What is paragraph 5 mainly about?
A.Why the ingredients were used.
B.Which dishes were best liked.
C.What the dishes were made of.
D.Where the ingredients were bought.
35.What can we learn about wastED?
A.It has ended as planned.
B.It is creating new jobs.
C.It has regained popularity.
D.It is criticized by top chefs.

But from what I had read of her requirements for a personal assistant,I knew I wanted the

sounds so cute,"I added."I love dogs."Then,I started to worry that typing that was too much at

The bubbles appeared on screen, showing that the lady was typing something in response,
when there was a knock at my front door.My mother was in,and as I was in the middle of an

根据第一段“Nearly 78% of consumers trust videos with real people (近78%的消费者相信真人拍摄的视频)”以及“As AI generates full videos from text prompts (提示), the truth remains: People still want to see other people. 【31题详解】
主旨大意题。文章开头“Brands have spent years perfecting video marketing strategies. Nearly 78% of consumers trust videos with real people, according to research from video creation platform Animoto. That preference holds as AI video tools flood the market and brands race to create more content faster.(品牌花了数年时间完善视频营销策略。

上文“Dark glasses aren’t necessarily the most protective. In fact, if the glasses are simply dark but not UV-protected, that’s worse for your eyes. (深色眼镜不一定最防晒。事实上,如果眼镜仅仅是颜色深而不防紫外线,那对眼睛更有害)”指出普通深色眼镜的危害。G选项“Do buy sunglasses that can block out 99% to 100% UV light. (一定要购买能阻挡99%至100%紫外线的太阳镜)”承接上文,针对上文指出的问题给出了正确的选购建议,即购买真正具备紫外线防护功能的太阳镜。故选G项。
【38题详解】
上文“While there’s no scientific evidence that the light from electronic screens damages eyes, staring at a screen can leave eyes extremely tired. One of the reasons is that people tend to blink (眨眼) less during screen use. (虽然没有科学证据表明电子屏幕的光线会损害眼睛,但盯着屏幕看会让眼睛极度疲劳。原因之一是人们在使用屏幕时眨眼次数减少)”解释了屏幕导致眼疲劳的一个具体原因——眨眼减少。C选项“This leads to eye dryness. (这会导致眼睛干涩)”承接上文,用“This”指代上文的“blink less (眨眼减少)”,指出这一行为的直接后果(眼睛干涩)。下文“The National Institutes of Health recommends taking a break every 20 minutes to look at something about 20 feet away for 20 seconds. (美国国立卫生研究院建议每20分钟休息一下,看约20英尺外的物体20秒)”则针对眼睛干涩和疲劳给出了具体的缓解建议,上下文形成“原因—后果—建议”的逻辑链条。故选C项。
【39题详解】
下文“First, smoking is terrible. It isn’t just bad for your lungs; it can harm eyes too. “Smoking causes dry eyes, harms optic (视觉) nerve and makes eye disease worse,” says Dr. Akpek. Also, try not to rub your eyes. (首先,吸烟很可怕。它不仅对肺有害,还会伤害眼睛。“吸烟会导致眼睛干涩,损害视神经,并使眼病恶化,”阿克佩克博士说。此外,尽量不要揉眼睛)”整段都在列举对眼睛有害的不良习惯(吸烟、揉眼)。B选项“Get rid of bad habits. (改掉坏习惯)”作为本段小标题,精准概括了下文的核心内容,即指出并建议改掉这些伤害眼睛的行为。故选B项。
【40题详解】
上文“Also, try not to rub your eyes. “The more you rub, the more uncomfortable your eyes will get. (此外,尽量不要揉眼睛。“你越揉,眼睛就会越不舒服)”指出揉眼的危害。D选项“It can lead to infections. (它可能导致感染)”承接上文,进一步补充揉眼可能带来的更严重后果(感染),从而强化了“不要揉眼”这一建议的必要性。下文“Instead, take medication or use drops for allergies or dry eyes. (相反,可以服药或使用滴眼液来缓解过敏或眼睛干涩)”则给出了正确的替代做法,与上文形成“错误行为—严重后果—正确做法”的完整论述。故选D项。

范文(82词,选择The joy of travelling)
Dear Jenny,
I’m writing to share my opinion about the themes for our English short‑video contest.
Personally, I prefer the theme “The joy of travelling”. For one thing, travelling exposes us to amazing scenery and different local cultures, which offers rich material for short‑video creation. For another, most students have travel experiences, so it will be easy for them to shoot videos and express their true feelings. Besides, works of this theme are more likely to interest viewers.
I hope my advice will be helpful.
Yours,
Li Hua
Music lights my life)
Dear Jenny,
I’m glad to give my suggestions on the contest themes.
I would choose “Music lights my life”. Music plays an important role in teenagers’ daily life. It can comfort us when we are stressed and cheer us up when we feel upset. Almost every student has their favourite music, so we can show our real feelings through videos. What’s more, videos with music will be more attractive to watch.
Hope my idea counts.
Yours,
Li Hua

3. 词数控制80词左右,句式使用定语从句、连接词(for one thing/for another、besides)。

It was late when I got back, and I thought I had blown the online interview. My mind was filled with the image of the hurt cat Marley. Seated in front of the screen, I hesitated for a moment, not knowing how to explain my absence. Just then, a message popped up from Ms Black. To my great surprise, she said she had understood my sudden leave, showing sympathy for the poor cat. Relief flooded over me instantly. I calmed down and finished the rest of the interview smoothly.
Despite the late hour, I typed a quick message to reply to Ms Black’s concern. I expressed my sincere gratitude for her understanding and told her Marley was receiving treatment at the veterinary hospital. Much to my joy, she replied that kindness ranked high among her requirements for the personal‑assistant position. Several days later, I was informed that I got the job. It dawned on me that true humanity matters more than perfect performance.
blow the interview 搞砸面试;to my great surprise 令我十分惊讶;relief flooded over me 我如释重负;rank high 位居前列;It dawned on me that 我逐渐明白
