There was once a captain who loved money so much that he cheated his sailors at the end of every voyage and took their wages.
On the last day of one voyage, the ship was in a small port. It was winter time, and the sea was very cold, so the captain said to his sailors, “If one of you stays in the water during the whole night, I will give him my ship. But if he comes out before the sun appears, I shall get his wages.”
The sailors had heard about the captain’s cheating, so they didn't trust him. But then one of them, who thought that he was cleverer than the captain, said that he would do it. He got into the water and stayed in it although it was very cold. When it was nearly morning, some fishermen lit a fire on the shore about half a mile away.
“You are cheating," the captain said to the sailor, “the fire's warming you.”
“But it’s half a mile away,”said the sailor.
“A fire is fire,”answered the captain,“I have won.”
The sailor came out of the water, and said, “Perhaps you think that you are clever because you have won my wages, but you can’t cook a chicken.”
“I can,”answered the captain.
“If you cook this chicken,” said the sailor, “I shall work for you without wages for seven years,bu if you can’t, you will give me your ship.”
The captain agreed, took the chicken and said,“Where’s the fire?”
“There it is,” answered the sailors,“on the shore.”

Tech company has made a powerful robot that can write stories. Type in “A cat wants to go to space" and ask the robot to write a bedtime story. Just one second later, you'll get the story of Max, who made his way past many difficulties to sing among the stars.
This robot writer is real. It is called ChatGPT. Developed by US company OpenAI, ChatGPT has taken the Internet by storm, winning 100 million users since it came out. People can ask the robot to write stories and emails, create instructions for cooking a certain food, translate languages, and answer all kinds of questions. In its own words, it is “a language model trained in a large amount of Internet text to help users get human-like text".
Compared with Siri or other chatbots, ChatGPT uses a much bigger information center for training. It also uses stronger software and hardware to learn things by itself. For example, if it provides a wrong answer to your question, you can tell it the right one and it will correct itself. "It's a totally different chatbot," computer scientist Liu Xiaoguang from Nankai University told Tianjin Daily. “The knowledge level ChatGPT shows is the same as a university student. That's why it shocked the world."
But one big problem with ChatGPT is that it makes mistakes or even gives false information. When Rezza, a 28-year-old scholar from Indonesia, used the robot to write an essay(论文),“It gave out many examples which other writers actually hadn't mentioned at all," he told The Guardian. Since the robot is trained using words from the Internet, it can also pick up biases(偏见)about certain groups. These are all things that need to be dealt with.
26. What does “Max” probably refer to in Paragraph 1?
A.A robot. B. A dog. C.A cat. D.A man.
27.Which of the following can replace the underlined part in Paragraph 2?
A.Caused serious changes of the weather.
B. Done harm to the Internet.
C. Brought strong wind and heavy rain.
D.Succeeded greatly online.
28. Why did ChatGPT shock the world?
A. Because its knowledge level is as high as a university student.
B. Because it works differently from other chatbots.
C. Because its information center is easier to control than Siri's.
D. Because it can find mistakes by itself
29. What can we learn from the last paragraph?
A. Anybody can make mistakes.
B. ChatGPT needs improvement.
C. Anybody may give false information.
D. ChatGPT can't get on well with humans.
30.What might be the best title of the text?
A.ChatGPT Is Coming!
B. Can ChatGPT Take the Place of Humans?
C. ChatGPT Is Catching the World's Eyes!
D. Can ChatGPT Avoid Biases Properly?
D
You can't keep children from a natural disaster, so how should you prepare them for it as parents? First of all, you should explain to them that acts of nature aren't necessarily disasters but can become one. These may include floods, hurricanes, tornadoes, winter snowstorms, wildfires, and earthquakes. The way to prepare children for these disasters is to educate them about what each type is and then make it fun by making them “Disaster Masters" or whatever title you can think of.
Making them “Disaster Masters" won't be easy. They must know what's in a disaster emergency kit(工具箱)and why it is included. You can get your friends involved, too. If your friends have children, they may want to be involved in your emergency preparations. Make it a group project. This is an opportunity for everyone to become familiar with the equipment.
You have to be aware of your conduct and the way you react to stress. The children will be easily influenced by your attitude and demeanor, the calmness, steady manner, and good humor of your spouse(配偶)and you will go a long way toward easing or reducing stress.
Explain to them what they're likely to encounter or see and describe how people may react. Disasters can come and go very quickly and generally don't last long. If you must stay away from home, try to get into a routine quickly and encourage them to make new friends. And it's important to let them know it's OK to cry during a disaster.
It’s sometimes helpful to let the children draw pictures of what they’ve experienced. Encourage them to write what they learned and what could have been done better. Save the story. Make it part of a documented family history!
31. It is a must that a “Disaster Master" knows
A. how to use a disaster emergency kit
B.why there are natural disasters
C. when a natural disaster will come
D.how to teach others about emergency preparations
32. The underlined word “demeanor” in Paragraph 3 can be replaced by“ , ”
A.personality B.lifestyle C.behavior D.emotion
33. When children meet with a natural disaster, they
A. can cry if they are frightened
B.should believe that the disaster will never last long
C. must write down what they see and how they feel
D. should help other children despite the danger
34.The author writes the passage mainly for
A.young children B.parents C.teachers D.college students
35. This passage is written mainly to tell people about
A. the importance of mutual help in disaster preparations
