B 18. A 19. C 20. C
Good afternoon. Childhood obesity has been receiving increasing attention in recent years. It’s no big secret that children like sweets, snacks and fast food.
Fast food restaurants make fatty meals even more popular by including toys. However, there are healthy foods that children can enjoy just as much as other choices.
Buttered apple sticks are a delicious choice for midday snacks. Following the suggestions in the food pyramid is an easy way to make sure that a child has all of the nutrition he or she needs.
My second suggestion is exercise: Going for a bike ride, taking a walk around the neighborhood or running around the playground are all fun ways for children to get out and get moving.
Fitness for kids is very different from fitness for adults. While adults often have a strong will to force themselves to exercise, kids usually would much rather sit in front of the television and watch their favorite cartoons. It is important to make things fun to get a child’s attention and develop their interest. Finally, it is extremely important for overweight children to stick to a healthy lifestyle. Eating healthy foods and making fitness for kids a fun experience can help get children on the right track to a healthier lifestyle.

Yiran Duan, a Bai ethnic minority member from Dali, Yunnan, founded Yi Crafts to share traditional Chinese handicrafts globally. After graduating from a UK university in 2019, she launched her studio to promote cultural exchange. During the later COVID-19 pandemic, however, she was forced to move her studio online, unexpectedly expanding her reach worldwide. “A crisis is also an opportunity,” she remarked.
While an opportunity, teaching online is not the same as speaking face to face. So in 2022, Yiran set up her official studio in London, emphasizing face-to-face interaction. She said, “Exchanges are not merely verbal communication. A glance, a smile, or a touch can change one’s mind.” Her workshops highlight crafts like Zharan, a tie-dye technique often mistaken for Japan’s Shibori. “Many think it’s Japanese, but its roots are in China,” she explains, noting its 1,000-year history.
Yiran views cultural exchange as mutual (相互的) learning. During a 2024 trip to Dali, British visitors joined Bai elders in singing. Surprisingly, a local song’s melody (旋律) matched a British folk tune. “They felt the culture without words,” Yiran realized. She stresses common human joys — beauty, food, art — over differences.
Misunderstandings still exist. Once asked if she was native American due to her braided hair (编发),Yiran replied, “I’m Chinese, part of an ethnic minority.” She aims to challenge stereotypes (刻板印象) of China as a single culture. “The West knows dragons or china, but China has diverse beauty,” she said.
Growing up on Dali’s “foreign street,” Yiran learned English informally. “My unique childhood made me realize my voice matters,” she shared. Her advice? “Never think no one listens. Every story deserves to be heard.”
Through handicrafts, Yiran builds bridges — not just between places, but between hearts. “The bridge matters, but the people willing to cross it matter more,” she smiled.
24. Why did Yiran Duan move her studio online?
A. To attract more British customers.
B. To avoid face-to-face communication.
C. To respond to the impact of the pandemic.
D. To learn from international handicraft masters.
25. What can we infer from the British visitors’ trip?
A. British folk tunes are from China.
B. Different cultures share common human joys.
C. Bai culture is better than British culture.
D. Cultural misunderstandings are easy to solve.
26. What is more important in cultural exchange according to Yiran?
A. The popularity of traditional handicrafts.
B. Face-lo-face communication skills.
C. The willingness of people to connect.
D. The support from universities and communities.
27. What is the main purpose of the passage?
A. To share Yiran Duan’s experience in cultural exchange.
B. To introduce a traditional Chinese tie-dye technique.
C. To describe the challenges of running a handicraft studio.
D. To compare Chinese and British folk cultures.
C 25. B 26. C 27. A

Many parents complain that their kids can’t sit through films anymore because to them the movies feel painfully slow. Others have observed their kids struggling to focus on homework. And reading a book? Forget about it.
“Witnessing increasing trends in diverse media consumption and rates of attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in young people, it’s easy to conclude that there is a decrease in their attention span,” said Carl Marci, a psychiatrist at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.
Links between ADHD diagnoses and screen time remain to be explored, since many factors could account for a steady rise in cases. Yet more parents say their kids are more distracted. Research suggests that watching short, fast-paced videos makes it harder for kids to sustain activities that don’t offer instant and constant satisfaction.
Focusing on the TikTok-related effects on the brain, one study found that the personalized, app-recommended videos activate the reward centers of the brain, compared with the general-interest videos shown to new users. Brain scans of Chinese college students showed that areas involved in addiction were highly activated in those who watched personalized videos. It also found some people have trouble controlling when to stop watching. “We infer that individuals with lower self-control ability have more difficulty shifting attention away from favorite video stimulation,” the researchers at China’s Zhejiang University wrote.
As is known to the public, TikTok’s algorithm (算法) figures out what users like based on the amount of time they watch each video, and then serves up more of the same. TikTok said it is now developing ways to diversify the videos. Recently, the company has made some changes aimed at limiting too much app usage. For example, TikTok won’t allow users aged 13-15 to receive notifications after 9 p.m. TikTok also periodically reminds users to take a break to go outside or grab a snack.
28. What does Carl Marci find?
A. Media consumption is rising steadily. B. Short videos lead to more ADHD diagnoses.
C. Screen time doesn’t offer overall satisfaction. D. Digital exposure makes children less focused.
29. How do TikTok videos influence people?
A. They activate brain’s self-control part. B. They let people feel rewarded and addicted.
C. They increase people’s involvement. D. They recommend more suitable videos.
30. What is the last paragraph about concerning TikTok?
A. Its aims. B. Its shifts. C. Its principles. D. Its targets.
31. Which of the following is a suitable title for the text?
A. Children Are Hooked on Social Videos B. Put down Mobile Phones; Take up Books
C. TikTok Is Stealing Our Social Time D. More Communication, Less Distraction
D 29. B 30. B 31. A

Brain scans of Chinese college students showed that areas involved in addiction were highly activated in those who watched personalized videos. It also found some people have trouble controlling when to stop watching.( 一项专门研究TikTok对大脑影响的实验发现:和推送给新用户的泛兴趣视频相比,平台算法量身推荐的短视频会激活人体大脑的奖赏中枢。

Perler beads, also known as pindou in China, have become a huge hit among young Chinese people. This traditional hand‑craft is especially popular with Gen‑Z consumers. Recent Spring‑Festival data shows that reservations for perler‑bead workshops rose by 90.18 % year‑on‑year. Its growth speed was much higher than that of pet boarding, the second fastest‑growing holiday service.
Perler beads are small plastic cylinders. People place them on special boards to form different patterns and melt them with heat to get final works. The craft first appeared in Sweden in the 1970s. At the beginning, it was designed as a kind of mental‑therapy tool. Its creator thought the hand work could help the old keep their mental ability and reduce their lonely feelings in cold long winters.
Nowadays, bead lovers can buy DIY material sets online or go to local bead‑making studios. These studios offer all necessary tools and rich bead colours for visitors to create works on site. A survey on local businesses in Nanjing found that most studios charge 20‑50 yuan for one person, and visitors can usually stay as long as they want.
No matter people use it to relax or show their creativity, making perler beads brings a special joy: you can create real, touchable little works piece by piece with your own hands.
But why is this craft so popular now? Psychologists have found some answers. When people are fully busy arranging beads, they may enter a state called “flow”. The idea was created by psychologist Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi. It means people are completely lost in what they are doing. This “flow” state happens when the difficulty of work fits the maker’s ability well. In this situation, people will feel neither bored nor worried. It helps produce dopamine in our brain and makes us more focused and satisfied.
Besides, putting beads again and again in a fixed order can make people feel peaceful, much like a way of mind‑calming exercise. Today’s young people face endless information from phones and computers. The physical, touch‑based hand‑making experience helps them clear their mind.
Another reason comes from embodied‑cognition theory. It suggests that our thinking is not only controlled by our brain. Body movements and different sense experiences also shape our thoughts. Making bead works uses our senses of touch, sight and hearing. So it creates stronger mental experience than staying in the purely online world.
32. What is the main purpose of Paragraph 1?
A. To introduce a popular hand-craft and its hot market performance.
B. To compare different holiday services’ influences on young consumers.
C. To explain the reasons for young people’s love for hand-made activities.
D. To list numbers to prove the fast development of the whole craft industry.
33. What can we know about perler beads from Paragraph 2 and Paragraph 3?
A. Most consumers prefer to buy DIY kits of beads on the Internet.
B. It was invented in Sweden to serve as a mental-therapy tool for the old.
C. The plastic material of perler beads is environmentally-friendly.
D. Studios in Nanjing usually charge 35 yuan per hour for bead-making.
34. What does the word “flow” in Paragraph 5 refer to?
A. A repeated activity that makes people feel calm and relaxed.
B. A thinking pattern influenced by different human senses.
C. A treatment to reduce people’s loneliness and anxiety.
D. A mental state where task difficulty matches one’s own skill level.
35. What makes perler beads welcome among Gen-Z according to the text?
A. It provides an effective way to improve people’s brain function.
B. It allows people to get real-world sense of achievement in digital times.
C. It gives people chances to receive low-cost professional art training.
D. It helps young people build social connections in bead-making studios.

D 37. E 38. F 39. A 40. C
根据前文“Art is often considered a luxury, something only for experts or museums.(艺术常被视作奢侈品,只属于专业人士或博物馆藏品)”以及空后“In fact, it is around us every day, shaping our moods and connecting our hearts.(事实上,艺术每日都在我们身边,影响情绪、联结心灵)”可知前后存在转折关系,前文是片面看法,后文纠正该观点;选项D“But this opinion is far from the truth.(但这种看法与事实相差甚远)”转折过渡,贴合逻辑。
根据前文“Art can be seen in many forms, not just oil paintings or sculptures.(艺术形式多种多样,不只有油画与雕塑)”和空后“A well designed poster, a beautiful building, a catchy song, and even a carefully arranged flower vase all belong to art.(设计精巧的海报、别致建筑、动听歌曲、精心摆放的花瓶都属于艺术)”可知空格承接上文,说明艺术涵盖生活中各类创意事物;选项E“It includes almost everything creative in life.(它几乎囊括生活中所有富有创意的事物)” 完美衔接上下文。
根据后文“When we look at a painting, listen to soft music, or watch a dance, our stress is gradually reduced. Art calms our mind and helps us relax after a long busy day.(观赏画作、聆听轻音乐、欣赏舞蹈都能缓解压力,抚慰身心,舒缓忙碌一天后的疲惫)”可知,整段围绕艺术减压展开,空格为本段主旨句;选项F“Art provides a wonderful way to reduce stress.(艺术是缓解压力的绝佳途径)”总领全段内容。
根据前文“Many people believe they have no artistic talent at all. This thought is not completely correct.(很多人自认毫无艺术天赋,这种想法并不完全正确)”以及空后“Doodling on paper, taking photos of sunsets, or cooking a nice-looking meal all count as creative expressions.(随手涂鸦、拍摄落日、制作精致餐食都属于创意表达)”可知,空前点明对艺术的错误看法,空后说明艺术存在于日常之中,故空格要说明普通人也能创作艺术,无需专业身份;选项A“You don’t need to be a professional to create art.(创作艺术不必成为专业人士)” 逻辑通顺。
根据前文“Digital painting, online galleries and short video creations make art easier to share.(数字绘画、线上展馆、短视频创作让艺术传播更便捷)”和空后“True art always comes from human experience and true feelings.(真正的艺术永远源于人的亲身经历与真情实感)”可知前文讲科技带来艺术新形式,后文强调艺术本质不变,存在转折对比;选项C“However, the soul of art remains the same.(然而,艺术的灵魂从未改变)” 衔接前后语义。

根据范围“in the world”以及定冠词“the”可知,此处表示最高级含义,long的最高级形式为longest。
主语The Trans‑Siberian Railway和build之间为被动关系,时间状语“at the beginning of the 20th century”表示过去,要用一般过去时的被动语态,主语为第三人称单数,所以谓语动词为was built。

被动语态中引出动作的执行者要用介词by,be used by sb.

When I was nine, I needed to earn money, so I asked Mr Miceli, the Herald-American man in my neighborhood, about an after-school paper route (报纸投递工作).He said if I had a bicycle, he’d give me a route.
My dad bought me a used bike, but right after that, he was hospitalized with pneumonia (肺炎) and couldn't teach me how to ride. Mr Miceli hadn't asked to see me ride, so I showed him the bike and got the job.
I borrowed Mom’s shopping cart (购物车) to deliver papers. Delivering papers from a bike was difficult. You get one chance to throw each paper, and if it misses a porch, too bad. But I left Mom’s cart on the sidewalk and carried each paper to its proper destination. If that was a secondary floor porch, and I missed the first throw, I threw again. In rain or snow, I put Dad’s old raincoat over the cart to keep the papers dry.
It took me longer to make my deliveries by cart than if I were on a bike, but I didn’t mind. I got to meet everyone in the neighborhood who was invariably kind to me.
When Dad returned from the hospital, he was too weak to work. Now we needed every coin we could raise to pay bills, so we sold my bike. Mr Miceli must have known I wasn’t using my bike, but he said nothing about it to me.
In eight months I built my route from 36 subscribers to 59, mostly because customers sent me to their neighbors. I earned one cent per paper, with most customers giving me extra as tips. That was good because Dad still couldn't work and I had to give most of my wages to Mom.
On the Thursday evening before Christmas, something unusual happened. I went to collect my payments, but most of my subscribers weren’t at home. I was very worried; I had to pay for my papers every Friday. When I finally reached the Gordons' house, I heard music and voices. I was relieved and rang the bell. Instantly the door was open, Mr Gordon dragged me inside.
Paragraph 1:
Jammed into his living room were almost all of my 59 subscribers!
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Paragraph 2:
Back at home, I showed Mom and Dad the new bike and the envelopes filled with money.
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Jammed into his living room were almost all of my 59 subscribers! In the middle of the room was a brand-new bicycle. A bag filled with colorful envelopes hung from the handlebar. “This is for you,” Mr Gordon said. My subscribers told me I was the best paperboy they’d ever had because there had never been a day when a paper was missing or late, nor a day when it got wet. Seeing me in the rain and snow with that little shopping cart, they thought I deserved a bicycle. Tears welled up in my eyes as I realized the depth of their kindness and appreciation for my hard work.
Back at home, I showed Mom and Dad the new bike and the envelopes filled with money. Dad’s eyes sparkled with pride and Mom hugged me tightly. That Christmas, our house was filled with love, hope, and the promise of a brighter future, all thanks to the kindness of my wonderful neighbors. Shortly after, Dad taught me how to ride a bicycle, and as I gained confidence, Mr Miceli entrusted me with an expanded paper route. The bike did speed up my delivery, but I kept up my old habit of getting off in the rain to shelter each paper and retrying if I missed a throw to a high porch. My subscribers’ kind behavior and special gift will always remind me to take pride in even the humblest work.
