Farah was on her parents’ farm in Malaysia. She heard a funny noise and went to look. She found a baby orangutan (猩猩). It was lonely and scared. Farah went to tell her parents.
“There’s an orangutan sanctuary (庇护地) ten miles from here,” said Dad. “We should call them.”
“Good idea,” said Mom. “I’ll call them now.”
“He looks hungry,” said Dad. “I’ll get him a banana.”
“He needs a name,” said Farah. “I’ll call him Coco.”
A team from the sanctuary arrived quickly.
“Why does Coco have to go to the sanctuary?” asked Farah.
“Orangutans are in danger in their habitat (栖息地) because there are logging sites (伐木点), big farms and illegal (非法的) hunters,” said the sanctuary assistant. “Coco is very young. At the sanctuary, he can grow up safely.”
“What happens at the sanctuary?” asked Farah.
“Well, Coco looks healthy, but tomorrow the vets (兽医) are going to do a check-up and they’re going to give him vaccinations (疫苗). The day after tomorrow, we’re going to send him to the orangutan school at the sanctuary!”
“Orangutan school!” said Farah. “What’s that?”
The sanctuary assistant smiled. “Orangutans usually stay with their mothers for six years. They learn how to live in the jungle. At the sanctuary, they learn from each other. Next week, the team is going to give Coco a buddy — an older orangutan who can teach him. He needs to learn how to find food and where to sleep.”
“Orangutan school sounds fun!” said Farah.

Passage 1
Online fiction is a very popular entertainment in China. Lots of people love reading stories on their phones in daily life. However, the fast development of AI has caused a big problem: AI plagiarism(抄袭). It seriously hurts original writers and ruins the creative environment of online literature.
In the past, traditional plagiarism was time-consuming (费时的). People had to copy and rewrite others’ works by hand, which took a lot of time and energy. But now, AI tools make illegal copying much easier and faster. Many original writers spend months creating special storylines, lively characters and unique plots. Yet plagiarists can simply put original novels into AI programs. The AI will quickly change the words and sentence styles to make new articles. Although the rewritten content looks different, it still steals the core (核心的) plots and creative ideas. This makes it extremely hard for real writers to prove they are copied.
To protect their legal (合法的) rights, more than 1,200 online writers have started a public campaign. They ask people to respect original works and real authors. They also hope reading platforms can watch over online content and encourage readers to report fake AI novels.
Many useful measures have been put into use. Major reading platforms have deleted illegal accounts that produce lots of low-quality AI novels. They also use new checking tools. These tools do not only compare simple words, but also analyze story logic and character relationships to find plagiarized works correctly. Besides, the government has made new rules. All AI-written texts must be clearly marked, so readers can easily tell AI works from human creations.
Still, the protection of original online fiction needs to be improved. Writers hope for stricter punishments for plagiarism, such as asking plagiarists to pay money for their losses, instead of only deleting fake works. With the joint efforts of the government, platforms and readers, the online creative industry will be better protected, and original writers can keep creating great stories.

Passage 2
The popular Chinese medical drama The Heart has come back with its second season. Mark Chao plays the lead role of Doctor Zhou Xiaofeng again. He is an excellent heart surgeon (外科医生) who faces new challenges in both his work and personal life. The new season truly shows the real life and inner thoughts of medical workers.
Three years after the first season, the actor felt a little nervous before shooting. Luckily, with the help of the experienced team, he quickly got into his role. In the new story, Zhou Xiaofeng makes great progress in his career and becomes the youngest cardiology ( 心脏病学) director of the hospital. However, this promotion (提升) brings him huge pressure and loneliness. As a strict and responsible director, he has to manage his former friends, who are now his subordinates. He puts all his energy into treating patients, but always ignores his own feelings and personal relationships.
The new season starts with a tough moral (严苛的道德观) problem. During an operation for twin babies, Zhou’s mother, who is also a doctor, uses unapproved (未经批准的) medical devices and causes a medical accident. As the new director, Zhou has no choice but to suspend (暂停) his mother from work for six months. This difficult decision makes audiences think deeply about responsibility and fairness.
The crew(技术团队) tried their best to make the drama real and reliable. They asked hundreds of medical experts for advice and learned real surgical processes. They also realized how tired doctors are. Long working hours and tight work schedules leave doctors almost no personal time.
The Heart Season 2 is more than a simple medical drama. It shows doctors as ordinary people with emotions, not cold working machines. The show also shares helpful health knowledge and talks about meaningful themes like life, death and human relationships. That is why this warm and thoughtful drama is popular at home and abroad.

Passage 3
The Xisha Islands in the South China Sea are the most important home for green sea turtles in China. About 90 percent of China’s sea turtles live here. Thanks to long-term protection, more sea turtles return to local beaches to lay eggs every year, and their population is slowly and steadily growing.
Most daily protection work is carried out on Beidao Island. Many local patrollers (巡逻人员) used to be fishermen. Now they guard the beaches all year round. They clean up sea trash, mark turtle nests and save injured turtles. Many turtles are hurt after eating plastic waste or getting caught in fishing nets. Workers send sick turtles to rescue (救助) centers and set them free after they get well. Besides adult turtles, baby turtles also need careful protection. Storms and high tides often destroy nests and trap young hatchlings (幼崽). Rescuers protect weak baby turtles and help them adapt to the ocean before releasing them.
To help the turtle population grow faster, workers also set artificially (人为地) raised turtles free into the sea. At the same time, strict national laws support this protection work. China’s Wildlife Protection Law and special turtle protection plans allow patrol teams to protect turtles and their homes in a timely way.
These efforts have brought great results. Since 2017, scientists have found over 1,700 turtle nests on the Xisha Islands. The turtle population has increased greatly compared with the early 2000s. Researchers also say Xisha’s sea turtles form a special local group, which makes their protection very valuable.
However, threats (威胁) such as ocean pollution and typhoons still remain. Also, sea turtles travel across borders, so their protection is a global task. The successful experience of the Xisha Islands shows that community work, scientific methods and strict laws can effectively protect endangered animals and keep the ocean ecosystem healthy.

Passage 4
In the past, people thought restoring ancient relics (修复古代文物) meant making them look totally new and perfect. But now, a special restoration (复原) way called “leaving a blank space” is popular in China. This way respects the beauty of time and incompleteness(不完全). It shows real history in a more genuine way.
This method gives up blind and full reconstruction(重建). It keeps the original broken marks of historical sites. Workers use simple and modern materials to repair relics while showing their original looks. People can easily tell the modern repaired parts from the ancient ones. Therefore, visitors can see the real remains of the past and understand modern restoration ideas at the same time.
Many cultural relics around China use this creative skill. At the Han Jing Hall ruins of the Old Summer Palace, workers put up transparent (透明的) glass boards. They show the hall’s original shape, helping visitors picture the ancient building instead of just seeing ruins. At Xixia Imperial Tombs in Ningxia, thin metal mesh (金属网) is used to fix broken stone statues. The simple modern lines fit the desert view well and guide people to imagine the complete ancient works.
This method is also used on small old relics. A broken ancient vase in Zhejiang Provincial Museum is repaired with clear resin (树脂). Workers do not hide its cracks or missing parts. The transparent material keeps the relic’s damaged marks and records its real history.
The core of this restoration is “minimal intervention (最小干预)”. Workers use removable and clear modern materials to protect original relics and leave space for people’s imagination. However, this method has shortcomings. It cannot show all historical and craft details, so it needs to work with other explanation ways.
In a word, the “leaving a blank space” restoration tells us history is not always perfect. Keeping the marks of time is the best way to respect history and pass down ancient culture.
1. What did people use to think about restoring ancient relics?

2. What is the special beauty of the “leaving a blank space” restoration method?

Passage 5
Healthy eating is very important in our daily life. To help people form better eating habits, a popular science activity about nutrition (营养) was held in Beijing’s Longtan Central Park in May 2026. As the main activity of National Nutrition Week, it followed the theme “Nutrition at the Family Table” and taught families simple and scientific ways to eat healthily.
The activity used fun and interactive (互动的) ways to spread useful nutrition knowledge. A local fruit company prepared interesting games for people of all ages. Kids played easy ball-throwing games to learn about nutrients such as Vitamin C and fiber (维生素C与膳食纤维). Adults could use an AI mini-program to scan their daily food and get professional advice to balance their meals. A smart robot also helped visitors check their eating habits. It found many common problems, including too much fat intake and not enough fruit.
This event shows the great change in people’s dining ideas. In the past, people only cared about filling their stomachs. Today, more people focus on food nutrition and its benefits to their health. Many citizens begin to stay away from fried food and choose more fruits and whole grains.
Such public education activities are really necessary. The government has encouraged healthy lifestyles through the Healthy China Action. However, surveys show that more than half of people still have unbalanced diets. Now, more social groups and companies take part in public welfare activities. They share nutrition knowledge and offer healthy food choices to help people develop good living habits.
In fact, healthy eating does not need strict or boring rules. With interesting activities and modern technology, learning to eat balanced diets becomes easy and fun. These changes can bring long-term health benefits to everyone.
