In fact, we have all been told not to leave the water running while brushing our teeth or washing our faces. Another good habit is taking shorter showers every minute counts. When IT comes to doing the dishes, using the dishwasher is much more efficient than washing the dishes by hand, but only if you fill IT up. If you use the dishwasher for only a few plates or glasses, you will end up wasting more water. Does your car need a wash? Get down to lumps in college this weekend where they are having a charity car wash. The event will take place at the college parking lot, where the students will be washing cars for a good cause. That's on saturday, the fourth from eight in the morning till eight in the evening. And the Prices are pretty good too. Just ten dollars for the outside of your car and eight dollars for the inside. If you want the full service outside and inside IT will cost you only fifteen dollars. That's not too bad. But the main thing is that all of the money raised will go to the homeless people in the area. So if your car is dirty, you know where to take IT this weekend. Good morning, everyone. Here are some wonderful festivals around the world that happen in spring. If you want to know more about them, please click here or visit http://www.buddhanet.net/festival.htm
Songkran — Thailand
Dates: 13th — 15th, April
In Thailand, people celebrate a festival called Songkran, when people head out to the streets with water guns to spray (喷洒) everyone who walks past. It’s a very important traditional celebration in the country.
Naghol — Vanuatu
Dates: Every Saturday from April to May
Every year, villagers come together to celebrate the harvest of yams (甘薯), an important part in the people’s diet in Vanuatu. The festival is most famous for its “land diving (潜水) ceremony”. During the ceremony men and boys dive to the ground from high wooden towers with only two thin vines (藤) tied to their feet.
Cherry Blossom Viewing — Japan
Dates: The cherry blossom season is different from year to year depending on the weather.
The festival is well-known. The Japanese celebrate the days when the flowers finally blossom. Only a few days later, the petals (花瓣) fall to the ground, like pink snowflakes. That means the traditional festival only lasts for several days. In Japan, almost everyone has picnics in the parks to view the flowers.
Sinhalese New Year — Sri Lanka
Dates: 13th or 14th, April
Just like in many other countries in South East Asia, this is the time when people celebrate the traditional New Year, an ancient celebration which marks the end of the harvest season and is one of two times of the year when the sun is straight above Sri Lanka. There are a lot of delicious foods during the celebration.

A lunch break is an important and often necessary part of our work or school days. And now we’re spoilt (惯坏的) with a lot of places to buy our lunch from, all offering attractive dishes and sandwiches to eat on the go.
But our appetite for buying food for our lunchtime is not just costing us money, there might be a cost in terms of damaging our planet too. Just grabbing a sandwich, potato chips and maybe a cake and coffee can produce at least four items of waste. Paper boxes, cups, wrappers and plastic knives and forks are all part of our disposable (一次性的) feast in addition to the food waste we create. Some experts say throwing away food, which produces methane (甲烷) as it becomes gradually destroyed, is a bigger cause of climate change than plastic waste.
But regardless of what causes the most damage, the solution, according to an environmental campaign group called Hubbub, is to eat packed lunches. Tessa Tricks from the group says, “People are saying that they are buying food to take out because life has got busier.” And she says people think they are being more efficient; but she argues that it’s usually healthier and cheaper to make your own lunch. It means you can eat the things you really want and make the quantity that you actually need.
Of course, preparing your lunch is another thing to fit into your morning hurry of getting ready for work, so if you haven’t got time and you are going to buy lunch, an alternative that Hubbub suggests is to take your own containers to a shop and ask them to put your food in it. The idea of using reusable coffee cups for hot drinks and refillable water bottles has already proved successful, so this could be another step in the right direction.
24.What is paragraph 2 mainly about?
A.Buying lunch costs a lot of money.
B.Eating fast food is harmful to health.
C.Buying lunch leads to environmental damage.
D.Making lunch saves our money and the planet.
25.What does Hubbub suggest doing in paragraph 3?
A.Eating whatever you want. B.Making lunch by yourself.
C.Stopping eating packed lunches. D.Trying to be more efficient in work.
26.What does the underlined word “this” in the last paragraph refer to?
A.Buying lunch. B.Using reusable coffee cups.
C.Taking your own containers. D.Using refillable water bottles.
27.What does the author call on us to do?
A.Make full use of lunchtime.
B.Eat properly to keep healthy.
C.Do what you can to reduce pollution.
D.Rethink our lunch habits to help our planet.

In today’s fast-changing world of technology, some worry that traditional cultures might disappear. But technology and traditions don’t have to be against each other. Instead, they can work together to protect and share our cultural treasures.
A great example is Beijing’s Palace Museum. Digital tools have brought its history to life: online tours let people worldwide “visit” the Forbidden City at home. Through their phones or computers, they can enlarge ancient artworks or watch 3-D videos of old royal events. This not only makes history fun for young people but also keeps digital records for future research. Technology here acts like a bridge, helping us connect with the past.
Traditional crafts are also getting a boost (提升) from technology. Skills like making china or weaving silk, which were almost forgotten, are now becoming popular again through live streams (网络直播) and online shops. For instance, artisans (手艺人) in Zhejiang use live videos to show how they paint blue patterns on white pottery. Their workshops attract millions of viewers, turning traditional crafts into modern trends while keeping their original beauty.
However, we must remember: technology is just a tool. The real heart of traditions lies in their cultural and emotional significance. Take the Chinese New Year as an example. While people now buy gifts online or send digital red envelopes, the festival’s true meaning — family reunions, making dumplings together, and honoring ancestors — stays unchanged. Technology adds new ways to celebration, but it can’t replace the warmth of being with loved ones.
By mixing technology with traditions wisely, we can keep our cultural heritage alive. Let innovation help traditions grow, but not erase (消灭) them. This way, the treasures of the past will continue to inspire people today and in the future.
28.Why does the Palace Museum use digital technology?
A.To allow people to experience cultural heritage online.
B.To protect physical artifacts.
C.To attract more visitors for profit.
D.To replace traditional museums completely.
29.How do Zhejiang artisans promote their china crafts?
A.By relying on ancient methods.
B.By mass-producing machine-made goods.
C.By modernizing traditional craft techniques.
D.By live-streaming the traditional crafts to a wider audience.
30.Why is the Chinese New Year mentioned in the text?
A.To prove digital technology harms traditions.
B.To show technology improves festival experiences.
C.To explain the unchanging importance of traditional festivals.
D.To compare traditional customs with modern technology.
31.What message does the author want to convey through the text?
A.Cultural heritage is more important than technology.
B.Technology can support the protection of traditions.
C.Traditional cultures face challenges in the modern world.
D.Digital tools have a bad impact on traditions.

In her late 50s, Pat Gentile was identified with breast cancer. During cancer treatment, she lost all her hair, so she began to wear a wig.
“But that wig — and I only had one wig — was uncomfortable, and it was annoying,” Gentile said. “So when I sort of had a crew cut look (平头发型), I decided that it was time to give the wig up.”
The first time she was driving to work without the wig, Gentile felt exposed. As the head of a local college and a frequent spokesperson, she worried about how people would respond. “I didn’t want to get the ‘pity eyes’ that people give you when you’re sick,” Gentile said. “I wanted to just keep moving.”
She stopped at a convenience store to pick up some coffee and lunch. As she shopped through the passage, a woman approached her. Fifteen years later, Gentile still remembers what the woman said. “Not everybody could wear a hairstyle like that. You look fantastic.”
Gentile was amazed. She managed to say, “Thank you,” before the woman walked away. Then she went back to her car, letting the words settle. “I sat there for a while, sort of treasuring this wonderful, kind thing that this person had said to me,” Gentile said. “And it really made a turning point for me that made me feel seen, made me feel normal and gave me the courage to get to work and just get started.”
Gentile donated the wig and never looked back. She completed the cancer treatment and has had no evidence of cancer since 2011. Thinking back to that encounter, she credits the woman’s kindness as a turning point. She says it inspires her to see other people the way that stranger saw her and to acknowledge what they might be going through.
“I think about this woman a lot. I’m kinder because of her. So I’m very grateful.”
32.Why did Gentile decide to stop wearing the wig?
A.It was out of fashion. B.It affected her public image.
C.It failed to cover her hair loss. D.It brought her physical discomfort.
33.What can we learn about Gentile from paragraph 3?
A.She hated to drive without the wig. B.She was anxious about her health state.
C.She was unwilling to be treated differently. D.She feared losing her professional position.
34.What happened to Gentile after she met the woman?
A.She pretended to be stronger. B.She recognized her own value.
C.She accepted herself confidently. D.She got sensitive to others’ comments.
35.What message does the author convey in the text?
A.Suffering can shape strong personality. B.A kind word can change a person greatly.
C.Courage is the key to overcoming disease. D.Appreciation contributes to true friendship.

Teenagers are not only creative, but they welcome ideas and suggestions as they are open-minded. In today’s world everybody goes after “wants” and “achievements”. However, it is essential for parents to ensure their children grow up with the emotions of gratitude (感谢) and kindness. 36 . Here are a few ways in which volunteering benefits teenagers.
It helps them make a difference. Volunteering is an excellent way to show teens first-hand what they’re able to do. Volunteering lets teens meet like-minded people. 39 . Moreover, they’ll learn how to behave and communicate with people from different backgrounds.
40 . While picking from different volunteering chances, teens can choose an area that interests them. For instance, if they are interested in teaching, they can choose to volunteer as a tutor. If they’re passionate about animals, they can help at an animal shelter. If they’re undecided, they can try to discover untapped interests.

One hot Saturday afternoon, I was about to enter the music store on White Avenue when I saw a small dog standing in front of the entrance. As I moved toward the door, it suddenly collapsed to the ground and lay still, whimpering softly.
“That dog is suffering from the heat,” said a man standing behind me. I gently picked it up. It lay like a baby in my arms, looking at me with large, trusting eyes. I opened the door and walked inside. “Do you have some water I could give this dog?” I asked. The shop owner shook his head. “Just leave it alone. It doesn’t belong here. Someone will come back for it.”
I knew I had never seen the dog before, but the way it looked at me brought back a distant memory. It needed me. I carried it to my car. As I drove, I could feel it watching me. In the comfortable silence, I took it home and gave it a name — Lucy.
When we arrived home, I bathed her and dried her long, curly white fur. Then I placed an old quilt inside a box in the kitchen. Lucy seemed to understand it was for her. Later that afternoon, my children came home. “Wow, what a cute ball of fur!” they exclaimed. Lucy rolled over onto her back, and my children played with her happily. “We’re so glad she found us,” they said.
However, three days later, an advertisement appeared in the local newspaper: “Lost. One small white dog. Answers to the name of Augy. Reward offered.”
The address was for a traditional clothing shop. When I arrived at the shop that evening, I had an uneasy feeling. A young man greeted the dog warmly and thanked me sincerely for taking such good care of her. I could tell this man loved his dog. He had paid for an ad and offered a reward. I was sure I had done the right thing by bringing her back, but I felt heartbroken knowing I would never see her again.

1.A
M: Have you seen the film The Million Pound Bank Note?
W: Yes, the story is very interesting. The man has got everything he wanted with a large bank note that no one can change.
M: There’s nothing strange about it. People in that society admire money.
2.C
M: How do you like the local restaurants around here?
W: Honestly, I can’t find anywhere good online, and just walking into places near my hotel hasn’t worked either. That’s why I really need advice from a local, like you!
M: I thought you’d never ask.
3.B
M: I’ve started to clean up my diet. I still get hungry between meals, but I do feel like I have a bit more energy now.
W: Great! Stick with it — it’s hard at first, but once you’re through it, you’ll feel so much lighter.
4.B
W: I’ve locked all the doors to the offices and checked that the windows are closed. Have you turned off all the lights?
M: Yes, that’s all been done.
W: OK, Jack. I’ll see you in front of the museum tomorrow morning.
5.B
W: Do you have change for a twenty-dollar note? I need two tens.
M: Sorry, I can’t help you. All I have are these three fives. I spent ten dollars on my train ticket.

M: Good morning, I am David. Is Mrs. Hayley in? I am a client of hers.
W: Well, Mrs. Hayley is actually traveling abroad until next weekend. Is this an emergency? I can attempt to contact her.
M: No, that is unnecessary. I was just swinging by to give her these documents. She had asked me to sign them. Is it okay to leave them with you?
W: That is no problem! I’ll give them to Mrs. Hayley as soon as she gets back. Here is a post-it note. Can you please make a note of what this is regarding, so Mrs. Hayley can have a clear idea when she returns?
M: Sure! I will do that.

W: Sorry, I’m afraid there are no performances today. The hall is for singers to practice.
M: Oh, sorry. It’s my first time in Florence, and I’m excited to see an opera. I’m a huge fan.
W: If you came on a different day, that would be possible. This city is the birthplace of opera, so no trip to Italy is complete without visiting a hall like this.
M: You’re right. I guess if I can’t watch a performance, at least I can learn something. Could you tell me something about opera?
W: Sure. Actually, “opera” in Italian means “work” or “effort”. It shows how much practice singers need. The stories told through opera shows are amazing, but the history and cultural customs behind the stories are what inspire me most. Hope you can learn more about that.
M: Thank you.
W: Well, since the singers aren’t here yet, I can show you around the special seating areas in the hall.
M: Perfect!

W: Professor Wallace, I can’t see a Shakespeare play before the term ends. Could I...
M: There are four plays available.
W: Most are at 8 p.m., but I must work on my biology senior project then.
M: No extension, but there must be a way.
W: Could I watch a film version instead?
M: No. Films focus on visuals, miss language, and cut much of Shakespeare’s work. When a character speaks their thoughts aloud in plays, they talk directly to the audience, but in films they rarely look at the camera.
W: It’s hard. I’m taking six classes, doing the project, and volunteering at the art museum Sundays.
M: No worry. The art museum is staging a Shakespeare play on a Sunday next month.
W: That’ll work great!

W: I hear you studied in Finland.
M: Yeah. I did a degree in Engineering at Tampere Technical University, and then I worked in a small software company in Helsinki.
W: Why did you decide to stay in Finland?
M: I was very interested in the job. I wanted to put my training into practice. In turn, I learned a lot from this experience.
W: What time do you start in the mornings?
M: I usually leave home at 7:30 and cycle for about half an hour to work.
W: Are the hours flexible?
M: In theory, yes, but I normally finish at 4 p.m. I sometimes finish earlier if I take a very short lunch break.
W: Do you go out for lunch?
M: Occasionally, but I like eating in the company canteen.

W: Good morning, everyone! Today I’d like to share some practical ways to save water in our daily lives. In fact, we have all been told not to leave the water running while brushing our teeth or washing our faces. Another good habit is taking shorter showers — every minute counts. When it comes to doing the dishes, using the dishwasher is much more efficient than washing the dishes by hand, but only if you fill it up. If you use the dishwasher for only a few plates or glasses, you will end up wasting more water. Does your car need a wash? Get down to Lumsden College this weekend, where they are having a charity car wash. The event will take place at the college parking lot, where the students will be washing cars for a good cause — that’s on Saturday, the 4th, from eight in the morning till eight in the evening. And the prices are pretty good, too — just ten dollars for the outside of your car and eight dollars for the inside. If you want the full service, outside and inside, it will cost you only fifteen dollars. That’s not too bad. But the main thing is that all the money raised will go to the homeless people in the area. So if your car is dirty, you know where to take it this weekend.

根据第二段“But our appetite for buying food for our lunchtime is not just costing us money, there might be a cost in terms of damaging our planet too. (但是我们外购午餐的喜好不仅仅花费我们的金钱,还可能带来损害地球的代价。)”可知,第二段主要讲述外购午餐会造成环境破坏。
25.细节理解题。根据第三段“But regardless of what causes the most damage, the solution, according to an environmental campaign group called Hubbub, is to eat packed lunches. (但无论哪一类污染的破坏力最强,一个名为Hubbub的环保组织提出,解决办法就是自带便当。)”可知,Hubbub建议自己制作午餐。
26.词句猜测题。根据最后一段“Of course, preparing your lunch is another thing to fit into your morning hurry of getting ready for work, so if you haven’t got time and you are going to buy lunch, an alternative that Hubbub suggests is to take your own containers to a shop and ask them to put your food in it. The idea of using reusable coffee cups for hot drinks and refillable water bottles has already proved successful, so this could be another step in the right direction. (当然,在早上匆忙准备上班的间隙再准备午餐,又是一件麻烦事。所以如果你没时间、打算外购午餐,Hubbub推荐的替代方案是自带容器到商店,让店员把食物装进你的容器里。使用可重复利用咖啡杯盛装热饮、可循环补水水杯的做法已被证实可行,因此这会是朝着正确方向迈出的又一步。)”可知,代词this指代前文提到的“take your own containers”这一做法。
根据第三段“But regardless of what causes the most damage, the solution, according to an environmental campaign group called Hubbub, is to eat packed lunches. 【导语】文章主要论述了科技与传统并非对立,而是可以相互协作:科技通过在线体验、直播等方式帮助保护和传播文化遗产,同时强调传统节日的核心意义不变,科技只是工具,不应取代传统的情感价值。
【详解】28.细节理解题。根据第二段中“Digital tools have brought its history to life: online tours let people worldwide “visit” the Forbidden City at home. (数字工具让历史变得生动:在线游览让世界各地的人可以在家“参观”故宫。)”可知,故宫使用数字技术是为了让人们在线体验文化遗产。
29.细节理解题。根据第三段中“For instance, artisans (手艺人) in Zhejiang use live videos to show how they paint blue patterns on white pottery. Their workshops attract millions of viewers, turning traditional crafts into modern trends while keeping their original beauty. (例如,浙江的工匠们通过直播视频展示他们在白色陶器上绘制蓝色图案的过程。他们的作坊吸引了数百万观众,使传统工艺成为现代潮流,同时保留了原有的美感。)”可知,浙江工匠通过直播传统工艺给更广泛的观众来推广他们的瓷器手工艺品。
30.推理判断题。根据第四段中“Take the Chinese New Year as an example. While people now buy gifts online or send digital red envelopes, the festival’s true meaning — family reunions, making dumplings together, and honoring ancestors — stays unchanged. Technology adds new ways to celebration, but it can’t replace the warmth of being with loved ones. (以春节为例,尽管如今人们通过网络购买礼物或发送数字红包,但这个节日的真正意义——团圆、一起包饺子、祭祖——始终未变。科技为庆祝增添了新的方式,却无法取代与亲人团聚时那份温暖。)”可知,作者提到春节是为了说明尽管技术带来了新方式,但节日的核心意义并未改变,即解释传统节日不变的重要性。
31.推理判断题。通读全文,尤其是第一段“In today’s fast-changing world of technology, some worry that traditional cultures might disappear. But technology and traditions don’t have to be against each other. Instead, they can work together to protect and share our cultural treasures. (在当今科技飞速发展的世界中,有些人担心传统文化可能会消失。但科技与传统并不一定相互对立,相反,它们可以携手合作,共同保护和传承我们的文化瑰宝。)”和最后一段中“By mixing technology with traditions wisely, we can keep our cultural heritage alive. 33.推理判断题。根据第三段中“As the head of a local college and a frequent spokesperson, she worried about how people would respond. “I didn’t want to get the ‘pity eyes’ that people give you when you’re sick,” Gentile said. (作为当地一所学院的院长,同时也是经常出镜的发言人,她担心人们会作何反应。“我不想得到人们在你生病时投来的那种‘同情的眼神’,”Gentile说。)”可知,Gentile不希望因为生病而被别人投以同情的目光,即她不愿意被区别对待。
34.推理判断题。根据第五段中“And it really made a turning point for me that made me feel seen, made me feel normal and gave me the courage to get to work and just get started. (这真的成为了我的一个转折点,让我感到被看见,让我觉得自己很正常,给了我去上班、重新开始的勇气。)”以及第六段中“Gentile donated the wig and never looked back. (Gentile把假发捐了出去,再也没有回头。)”可知,遇到那位女士后,Gentile感到被认可、正常,并给了她勇气,自信地接受了自己的样子。
35.主旨大意题。全文讲述了Gentile因癌症脱发后自卑不安,一位陌生女士的一句善意赞美成为了她人生的转折点,让她重拾自信,并且这份善意也激励她去善待他人。文章最后一段中“I’m kinder because of her. So I’m very grateful. (因为她,我变得更善良了。所以我非常感激。)”点明了善意的传递与影响。B选项“一句善意的话可以极大地改变一个人”准确概括了文章主旨。

66.Sample essay:
Should Traditional Festivals Adapt to Modern Lifestyles?
Traditional festivals face undeniable challenges in the modern world. The fast pace of urban life leaves little time for elaborate celebrations, and the cultural significance of many festivals is gradually fading among younger generations. For example, many young people view the Dragon Boat Festival simply as a day off rather than an occasion to honor the poet Qu Yuan and appreciate traditional customs.
In my opinion, traditional festivals should adapt to modern lifestyles, but this adaptation must preserve their core cultural meaning. The Mid-Autumn Festival offers a good example: while families today may not gather in courtyards to admire the moon as they once did, they can still share mooncakes and connect via video calls with relatives far away. The form changes, but the essence — family reunion and togetherness — remains intact.
I suggest that schools and communities play a more active role in teaching young people the stories and values behind traditional festivals. When we understand why we celebrate, we can find creative ways to keep these traditions alive in forms that resonate with contemporary life, ensuring that they continue to enrich our cultural identity for generations to come.

67.例文
Paragraph 1:
I refused the reward, and left the shop alone. My heart felt heavy as I walked to my car. I had only known Lucy for three days, but she had already become part of my family. The children would be disappointed when they learned she was gone. Just as I was about to drive away, the young man ran out of the shop and called after me. “Wait, please!” he shouted, catching his breath. I rolled down my window, wondering what he wanted. He looked at me with a mixture of gratitude and hesitation, as if he was struggling to say something important.
Paragraph 2:
The young man’s words were totally unexpected. “Actually, I think Augy would be happier with you,” he said quietly. “I work long hours, and she’s alone most of the day. I could see in her eyes that she truly loved being with you and your family.” I was speechless. He continued, “As long as you promise to take good care of her, she’s yours.” Tears filled my eyes as I thanked him from the bottom of my heart. That day, I learned that sometimes love means letting go, and true kindness comes from putting another’s happiness before your own.
